The headlines say I’m engaged to one of football’s biggest stars. There’s one problem—we’re not actually dating.
Finn Miller is my best friend’s brother, a professional athlete, and the most dangerously boyfriend-y man I’ve ever met.
He knows where to order my favorite drink. He carries my bags when I shop. He knows exactly how to make me laugh (and other things), while making me forget why I’ve sworn off relationships.
Our chemistry? Off the charts. Our commitment? That’s another story.
We’re friends with benefits and that’s it.
Then one innocent joke sparks a media frenzy, and suddenly pretending to be Finn’s fiancée comes with a million-dollar opportunity that I can’t afford to turn down.
A few public appearances and one ridiculously expensive ring to pretend to be engaged to a man who knows me better than anyone? Easy right?
Wrong.
Finn is determined to make this feel real. And the more time I spend playing his future wife, the harder it gets to remember why I never wanted this role.
I had a game plan to protect my heart, chase my dreams, and never fall for Finn Miller.
Adriana Locke is a USA Today and Amazon Charts Bestselling author with a knack for writing swoony, unforgettable contemporary romances. At nineteen, she traded her small-town roots for big-city life, only to realize her heart beats for quiet mornings and cozy chaos. These days, she’s living her happily-ever-after in Ohio with Mr. Locke—her high school sweetheart—four lively sons, and two hilariously hyper Jack Russell terriers.
When she’s not penning love stories that will leave you laughing and sighing, Adriana is battling the epic quest of missing silverware, “gardening” (a.k.a. chatting with her plants), or leaving her grocery list on the counter as she heads to the store. Grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and let her books whisk you away to a world of heartwarming romance and irresistible heroes.
Adriana makes it SO easy to get swept up in her stories. I love how all of her series both standalone but also share a world together. As with all of her books, I read this in one sitting. I got so caught up in Poppy and Finn, that I stayed up wayyyy too late finishing.
Poppy is such a great FMC. You can’t help but root for her and her character growth throughout this story was fantastic. She has had some major relationship trauma and has commitment phobia. She is such a baddie in her career and I love seeing women who build themselves back up. Finn is seriously so unapologetically down bad for Poppy. I am OBSESSED with him. He’s patient, loving, uplifting, and such a great partner. Sunny was the most adorable little addition to the story and had everyone so wrapped around her fingers.
I loved the charity idea of turning Someday into Now and how Poppy’s late father inspired it. As someone who lost their father suddenly two years ago and turned their passion into a side business, I felt really connected to this part of the storyline. I loved this book and can’t wait for her next book!
𝙏𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙑𝙞𝙗𝙚𝙨: Steamy Sports Romance Friends With Benefits for Two Years Best Friends Brother Fake(ish) Fiancée Down Bad Green Flag MMC Black Cat x Golden Retriever Relationship Trauma Forced Proximity First Act Breakup
This storyteller is one who excels when it comes to endearing family dynamics, sprinkling in the right amount of humor, and giving us characters we can relate to. I don’t have to know anything about her new releases to know I automatically want to read them.
Finn and Poppy are an interesting setup. Friends with benefits, except one of them sees a future that could be while the other is opposed to a romantic relationship for herself. Poor Finn.
And I adored Finn! He’s Golden Retriever and green flags all the way, and the perfect type of guy for Poppy. So much patience and understanding from this guy, and he was amazing at loving every facet of Poppy, not wanting to change a thing about her and embracing her exactly as she was.
It's Poppy I wasn’t completely sold on. It would have helped me relate to her more if some of her backstory was revealed earlier on. Once we knew, it all made sense, but by the point I had a level of fatigue from her continued resistance. Still, it all made sense in the end and I understood her better. Full of fun banter, humor, heat, and heart, this one is a terrific addition to a binge-worthy series you won’t want to miss.
Finn Miller is officially on my favorite book boyfriend list! This man, y'all!! A total green flag.
Poppy & Finn have been monogamous friends with benefits for a long time. She has a hard with commitment so when she feels like the lines are getting blurred, she tries to take a step back.
When Finn finds himself in a media situation, Poppy agrees to be his fake fiance. Finn is determined to show her how good they are together. His feelings were strong and he never once wavered in those feelings. I loved how he loved her. And once Poppy got out of her own way, she saw how much they belonged together too. This one was sweet and swoony and I loved it!
Thank you to Adriana Locke for this e-ARC. All opinions are my own.
This book FINALLY brought me out of my recent book slump and restored my faith in book boyfriends, and for that alone, it deserves ALL the love. The last few heroes I’ve read have been seriously lacking, but not Finn Miller. Nope. This man is out here saving the reputation of book boyfriends everywhere, and I am HERE FOR IT. 😍
We first met Finn Miller and Poppy Quinn in Layla and Branch Best’s book, End Game, and I was SO excited to finally get their story. It isn’t necessary to read End Game prior to this one, but I’d still recommend it. Friends to lovers, a fake fiancé, best friend’s brother, forced proximity, temporary parents to the most adorable toddler, and a first act breakup! (Whaaaaaaat?! Yes, really, even if Finn did gently push back.) Add in a football romance during football season, and this was already checking ALL my boxes.
Poppy and Finn start out as friends with benefits, and Poppy is here for a “fun time, not a long time.” She likes keeping things light and easy and focusing on the benefits package she has with Finn. My girl is smart, funny, and chaos personified in the best way, but she’s also a little emotionally closed off and doesn’t like to get too feel-y. I mean, I get it, Poppy, but GIRL. Have you met Finn Miller?!
Because Finn really is the greenest of green flags. Can confirm. The way he goes out of his way to care for the people he loves? The top-notch work ethic? The way he supports Poppy and gets genuinely excited about her dreams? Swoon. He’s generous, thoughtful, and the kind of guy who picks you up AND brings you a snack. I mean, come ON. Finn knows he’s Poppy’s person even when she doesn’t know it herself, and he’s willing to be patient and prove it. He just wants her to trust him, to make her smile, to take care of her, and show her how important she is to him. Finn gives more and better than he takes, so try not to swoon over Finn Miller. I DARE YOU.
Poppy’s past experiences have shaped her, and not always in the best ways. She’s got her shields up, but Finn understands both the good and the bad that come with Poppy, and he wants to get past those walls. Watching Poppy finally let go of her excuses, realize she’s safe with Finn, and stop letting her fears and regrets control her was everything. She learns she can be herself, choose herself, and still be loved. And Finn never gives up on her, even when she makes it hard. Gah, I love Finn so much. Have I mentioned that already?
Exposé can absolutely kick rocks. But hey, they set some things in motion that definitely keep things interesting, and it all works out in the end, even if things get a little dicey for a minute or two. On second thought, maybe they’re not THAT bad.
I also loved catching up with Branch, Layla, sweet little Sunny, and all the other familiar faces and places from around the Locke Universe. These little blasts from the past are the BEST treat for me, and I loved every bit of it.
I really appreciated the reminder that life can change fast and that we should put our time and energy into the things that matter most, like friends and family. Being strong enough to battle life on your own is great, but it’s also a blessing when you don’t have to. Am I right? And I absolutely loved Poppy’s idea for her Someday Now foundation to help people do the things on their someday lists NOW. Seeing her dream come to life with Finn’s help made me so happy.
This book has friends, family, forehead kisses, and FEELS. So many feels. Sorry, Poppy, but you know it’s true. 😂 You can also always count on Adriana Locke to bring the heart, heat, and humor, and this book delivered on ALL THREE.
Honestly, my only real complaint is that Poppy spends a little too much time focusing on the benefits part of their friends with benefits arrangement instead of the feel-y stuff. But I mean, who wouldn’t want to focus on that part of Finn Miller? I’ll allow it. 😉
If you need your faith restored in book boyfriends, READ THIS BOOK. It’s well written, easy to read, highly entertaining, steamy, and romantic, with wonderful characters and a most satisfying happily ever after. But at the end of the day, Finn Miller is still all you really need to know.
There is just something so deeply satisfying about watching a fiercely devoted hero fall first—and Adriana Locke’s Game Plan delivers that trope to absolute perfection.
Tropes & Details * Friends with Benefits to Lovers * Fake Engagement * Proximity / Forced Proximity * He Falls First * Sunshine Football Hero * Found Family & Caretaker Elements . If you love football romance heroes who are a complete breath of fresh air compared to the typical arrogant jock archetype, Finn Miller is going straight to the top of your favorites list. He is the ultimate golden-retriever hero: fiercely loyal, impossibly sweet, charmingly cocky, and down-hauling obsessed with the one woman who is trying her hardest to keep him at arm's length. . Poppy Quinn is a heroine you cannot help but respect. She has a heartbreaking backstory—so please check content warnings for domestic violence and abuse before diving in—and watching her put the pieces back together after surviving something so horrific is powerful. Because of her past, Poppy is fiercely protective of her heart and understandably terrified of vulnerability. She never wants to give anyone that kind of power over her life again, which makes her resistance to Finn completely authentic. . They thought they had the ultimate arrangement: a friends-with-benefits setup that stayed strictly casual. Only they didn't realize that over the years, they had quietly crossed every single line. When Poppy finally wakes up and tries to pull the ripcord, Finn puts his foot down. Sex is off the table unless he can prove to her they are something real. Enter a delightfully messy public scandal, an interview that makes him look taken, and a brilliant fake engagement proposal to help fund the charity foundation Poppy is building. . What follows is pure, heartwarming perfection. Finn doesn't just push; he shows up. Every single day, he proves to Poppy that she is worthy of a safe, beautiful, happily-ever-after, even when her heart wants to retreat. Their sizzling banter, the accidental domesticity, and the way Finn steps up with his niece, Sunny, are total turning points that make your heart melt. They practically stumble into the boyfriend/girlfriend role long before they actually label it, and watching Finn tear down every single wall Poppy has built is the ultimate feel-good boost. . It’s not always a smooth ride—they hit real bumps and challenges along the way—but Finn’s unwavering determination to prove that Poppy is it for him makes every page worth it.
What a fun sports romance, I liked that this one staged a fake engagement for endorsements, that was a new fake engagement set up for me and I loved how it tied all of the plot together. Endorsements are such a business deal I loved how Finn brought Poppy into the deal as a third party and made if fully beneficial for her to participate in this fake engagement as a way to safely test out the relationship waters with Finn. Poppy has some relationship trauma from the past and hasn’t been willing to do anything more than short term casual agreements until she slowly starts to fall for Finn before she even realizes it.
Finn and Poppy have a spectacular friendship, they really do understand each other, support each other, and just have all the foundation for them to move into a romantic relationship once Poppy is ready and the engagement didn’t change that, but helping take care of Finn’s niece for a week certainly did. Playing house, balancing chores, Adriana Locke does a wonderful job at showing how Poppy and Finn fall for each other during the mundane things in life rather than the showy side like Poppy’s ex. It was well thought out and I loved how each side plot and character all tied together!
Finn Miller, ladies and gentleman, has set the bar very high. This man was the definition of patient and understanding. Poppy was so lucky to have him in her life, and while she knew that wholeheartedly, I was a little worried she would realize what they could be for real when it was too late. At times I think Finn knew Poppy better than she knew herself. The care, attention, small but big acts of service, love and devotion he gave to her - all while she tried to convince herself their relationship was purely physical - will have him going straight into my book boyfriend hall of fame.
Game Plan is book two of the Legends Football Series.
I absolutely adored Finn. He was perfect! He is doing everything a boyfriend would do without the title, then when he brings up the topic with Poppy, she shuts it down so fast. I truly felt bad for him in this instance as he thought they were something that Poppy is fighting with everything against. I understood her reasoning as the story progresses, but it was devastatingly cold for Finn. However, he beats her at her own game and holds back the one thing which kept Poppy around.
Circumstances result in Finny needing Poppy's help to get out of a bit of a bind with the media and it could be lucrative for both of them. They may have went into things for the wrong reasons, but they came out of it on the other side with the right ones.

Too bad he has a game plan of his own.
I loved Finn and Poppy’s story! I was hooked within the first few pages and couldn’t wait to see how their friends-with-benefits arrangement would turn into something more. The chemistry between these two was off the charts, and I loved the fake engagement trope, especially with Finn determined to make it feel real. Their banter, the romantic tension, and the swoony moments made this such a fun and entertaining read. If you love sports romance, fake engagements, and best friend’s brother tropes, this one is definitely worth picking up!
-Friend’s to Lovers -First Act Break Up -Fake Fiancé -Best Friend’s Brother -Football Romance -Forced Proximity -Temporary Parents
I absolutely loved the bits and pieces I got of these two in the first book and could not wait to read their book. Poppy and Finn are perfect for each other, but who knows if they will actually turn out together in the end. These two are the perfect amount of flirting, banter, and then you add a little tension in this book, I loved. Who knew a break-up could lead to a fake fiancé ?
Finn is flirty, attractive, and swoony. He and Poppy are not on the same page at the beginning of this book. But he is convinced that he may be able to convince her that a relationship won’t be that bad. He is a natural caretaker, he is a very good listener, and he will do anything to protect Poppy.
Poppy is such a feisty, fierce girl. I absolutely love the fire that she has. But this poor girl has been through it and that is very obvious when you read this book. She has a past that she is trying to protect herself from having in the future as well. What she doesn’t realize is what is right in front of her could be the best thing to happen in her life. Will she allow herself to truly have it all ?
Thank you to the author for allowing me to read this advanced readers copy!
This is the second book in this impressive series, and this is Finn and Poppy’s story. Finn is loyal and loving, and is sassy, and spitfire, Poppy’s best friends’ brother. These two have had a friends-with-benefits relationship for the past couple of years, and a media frenzy has them fake engaged. This is a well written easy to read story, with family, friendships, emotions, friends / lovers, fake relationship, determination, forced proximity, engaging and realistic characters, second chances, humour, witty banter, sizzling chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and heartfelt, addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
This is Poppy and Finn’s story. Apparently these characters are originally introduced in another book, End Game, which I’ve not read * yet * but I do plan to go back and read it! Game Plan can be read as a standalone. When I saw the trope lineup for this book I knew I had to have it. I absolutely love Adriana’s writing style. She is a relatively new author to me but every book I’ve read of hers has been incredible and 5 stars. Needless to say, I’m a fan for life. She’s now an auto buy, must read author for me! I really loved both of the main characters. Finn is certainly a new favorite book boyfriend. I loved everything about this book. An absolute must read. Thank you, Adriana, for my earc!
Another great Addy masterpiece! As far as book boyfriends go…on a scale of 1-10, Finn is a 100!!! Knowing what he wants and understanding how Poppy works and just being an all around amazing person he sets the standard for all book boyfriends! As for Poppy….i can totally relate to this badassery with the ADHD thrown in! Watching her let her walls fall and her realizing how great her life can be and going for it is what it’s all about. Also gotta throw in there Poppy’s dad and the tears I cried…..gotta love a man like that too!
I have never been disappointed in an Adriana Locke book, and Game Plan did not alter that in any way. I love a friends to lovers trope, and this one began with a strong friends with benefits vibe check. Poppy (a name I adore btw!), and Finn were the ultimate Saturday afternoon MMC/MFC for me to enjoy. They were so comfortable with each other and their “situationship” lines blurred into an unrecognized love. Poppy was NOT looking for forever, but Finn saw who they are together and did not want to let go. When something happens that creates them spending even more time together, Finn is all for it. He knows what he wants and willing to show Poppy how good they are together.
The emotional angst of Poppy’s story broke my heart with her past relationship. It was totally understandable why she’d put a protection around her heart, even with someone as amazing as Finn wanting her. It was easy to see that love was for others, and she wanted to avoid at all costs. But Finn….Finn wasn’t about to let Poppy go, and not help her see they have something special, and that love doesn’t have to hurt. He is steadfast, loving, and supporting her without question, and that made this book so special.
This book brought the heat with the friends with benefits. Their banter was so much fun, and I loved seeing Branch and Layla with Sunny included in this story. Found family is another favorite trope, and when that found family has as many connections as this one I’m here for it.
Game Plan has just rocketed to my favorite book in this series! Sure there are only two book so far, but this just hit in all the right places. This is a best friend's brother, friends with benefits, fake engagement sports romance. Finn is boyfriend goals and stole the show with his caring ways and patience with Poppy! Poppy is a ride-or-die friend. She's sweet with a lot of sass. She cares with her whole heart but she's commitment-phobic. Finn knows that Poppy is end-game. He just needs to convince Poppy that he's her person.
This was such a sweet, sexy, steamy read. It has all the feels and swoons. The plot kept me completely immersed in the story, unable to look away from the pages of their love story. I was invested and rooting so hard for them. The characters are real and relatable. I loved them! This is a must-read! It's definitely one of my favorite reads of the year. Go get yours now! You won't be sorry!
This was a cute and quick read. I absolutely loved the MMC! Usually golden retriever types get annoying to me at times but he did it so well and balanced supporting her independence, giving space when asked, and not being needy at all! He had all the green flags! Their relationship was my favorite! They had history which didn’t make it only surface level and the physical was hot but not the focus. The plot was meh… predictable, pacing was off, and I feel like we zipped through it without getting a lot of answers or time to sit with character decisions or major events. There was a lot missed with the whole media scandal that never got settled and the drastic decision he made felt like a blip without much context or unveiling of reactions. But their relationship was lovely and earned the rating.
🏈 Finn Miller Had a Game Plan, and My Heart Never Stood a Chance ❤️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars | 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 3 Chili Peppers
Finn Miller, ladies, we need to talk about this man because WOW! 🏈💚 Adriana Locke has given us one of those book boyfriends who makes you wonder how anyone could possibly resist him! Game Plan had everything I love in a sports romance: incredible chemistry, hilarious banter, a fake engagement, wonderful family dynamics, emotional moments, and a hero who is so completely gone for his girl that everyone can see it except the woman herself. I was hooked on Finn and Poppy's story and absolutely loved watching their relationship turn into something neither of them could keep pretending was casual.
Finn Miller is a professional football player, Poppy Quinn's best friend's brother, and quite possibly the greenest green flag you'll find on the football field! This man is charming, confident, flirty, and ridiculously attentive. He remembers Poppy's favorite things, carries her shopping bags, makes her laugh, and knows exactly how to show up when she needs him. He's already doing everything a wonderful boyfriend would do, except there's one little problem. Poppy insists they're just friends with benefits! And after nearly two years of their arrangement, Finn is ready for something more. I loved that he wasn't afraid of his feelings or embarrassed by how much he cared about her. He knew what he wanted, and that was Poppy, exactly as she was.
Poppy Quinn was such an interesting heroine! She's smart, fierce, funny, independent, and incredibly driven when it comes to her career. I loved her determination and the way she's worked so hard to build a life for herself. But underneath that confidence is a woman carrying some painful emotional scars from a past relationship. She's learned to protect herself by keeping romance at arm's length, and even though Finn has become such an important part of her life, the thought of making their relationship official absolutely terrifies her. There were definitely moments when I wanted to tell Poppy to open her eyes and see the amazing man standing right in front of her! But as more of her past was revealed, I understood why allowing herself to trust someone again was such a difficult step.
What made Finn so special to me was his patience and the way he loved Poppy without trying to change her. He never wanted her to become less independent, less outspoken, or less herself. He admired her strength, encouraged her dreams, and understood that the walls she'd built around her heart existed for a reason. He wasn't interested in being another person who made her question her worth. He wanted to be someone she could depend on. And honestly, the little acts of service, thoughtful gestures, and quiet reassurance made me swoon just as much as their romantic moments. This man was boyfriend material long before anyone put a label on their relationship! 🥹❤️
Of course, things get complicated when their friends-with-benefits arrangement starts feeling a little too much like a real relationship. Poppy tries to put some distance between them, while Finn is no longer willing to pretend that their connection is purely physical. Then one innocent joke turns into a media frenzy, and suddenly the world believes they're engaged! What follows is a fake engagement that could create a huge opportunity for Poppy's future, complete with public appearances, an expensive ring, and plenty of opportunities for Finn to prove just how real his feelings are. I absolutely loved this setup because Finn wasn't trying to convince himself that he could fall for Poppy. That man was already there! The challenge was getting Poppy to believe that what they had could be something safe, lasting, and wonderful.
And the chemistry between these two? OFF THE CHARTS! 🔥 Their teasing, flirty banter, and obvious attraction made their interactions so much fun. Since they'd already been involved for quite some time, the physical connection was never really in question. What I loved was watching their emotional relationship catch up with everything else. The more time they spent pretending to be engaged, the harder it became for Poppy to ignore how naturally Finn fit into her life. And with three chili peppers of spice, Adriana Locke definitely delivered on the heat!
One of my favorite additions to the story was sweet little Sunny! 👶❤️ Watching Finn and Poppy step into a temporary parenting role with his adorable niece gave their relationship another layer that I absolutely loved. There is just something about seeing a protective, attentive man caring for a child that gets me every single time! But what made those moments so meaningful was how naturally Finn and Poppy worked together. It wasn't about expensive gifts or grand romantic gestures. It was about everyday responsibilities, little routines, and the comfort of having someone beside you through the ordinary parts of life. Those moments showed just how wonderful they could be together if Poppy allowed herself to believe in their future.
I also loved Poppy's dream of creating the Someday Now foundation, inspired by her late father. The idea of helping people stop putting their dreams off until someday and start making meaningful memories now was such a beautiful part of the story. It added so much heart to Poppy's journey and gave her something deeply personal to work toward. And once again, Finn was right there supporting her! I loved that he didn't just care about making their relationship work. He genuinely believed in her abilities and wanted to see her accomplish something that meant so much to her. Their relationship was built on friendship, trust, encouragement, and a shared desire to see each other happy, which made their romance even more meaningful.
And can we talk about the family and friendships? Adriana Locke always seems to know how to create a world filled with people you genuinely enjoy spending time with. I loved seeing Branch, Layla, Sunny, and the familiar faces connected to the larger Locke universe. The humor, teasing, and supportive relationships added so much warmth to the story. I especially appreciated that Finn and Poppy had people around them who cared enough to support them while still letting them figure things out for themselves.
What really stayed with me was Poppy's emotional growth. She's already a strong, capable woman when the story begins, but she has to learn that allowing someone to love her doesn't mean giving up the independence she's fought so hard to protect. Finn doesn't need to rescue her or erase everything she's experienced. He simply wants to stand beside her, love her wholeheartedly, and prove through his actions that she deserves a relationship where she feels safe and valued. Watching Poppy gradually recognize that possibility was one of the most rewarding parts of the book. And Finn? His devotion never stopped making me smile.
Five stars from me! 🏈❤️ Game Plan was such a wonderful combination of heart, humor, heat, and emotional growth. I adored Finn's golden-retriever energy, Poppy's fierce personality, their fantastic chemistry, and the way their friendship became the foundation for something so much deeper. The fake engagement was entertaining, the family moments were adorable, and the emotional journey made their happily-ever-after especially satisfying.
If you love football romances, friends-to-lovers stories, fake engagements, protective heroes, strong heroines, and men who fall first and aren't afraid to show it, you absolutely need Finn Miller in your life! Adriana Locke delivered another romance that left me smiling, swooning, and completely invested in this couple. 💚
Thank you to Adriana Locke for the gifted advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved Poppy and Finn’s friends with benefits love story! Game Plan by Adriana Locke; it is an incredible fake fiancé/best friend’s brother love story. Game Plan is the second book in her Legends Football series. Adriana Locke continues to prove that she is an amazing storyteller, and a one click must read author for me. I was hooked from the first few pages, it was impossible to put Game Plan down, and I loved every moment on every page. Game Plan was one of the most enjoyable books that I have read recently, I could not put it down. I love that Adriana Locke continues to write the books that I love to read, and that she always chooses dialogue that stays true to her characters. Who does not love hot sexy men, strong females, loving families, and friends, who always support one another? Game Plan is a faking fiancé love story and is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. Game Plan is the story of Finnegan “Finn” Miller, Illinois Legends tight end and his sister’s best friend Poppy Quinn, assistant vice president of one of the biggest commercial insurance companies in the Midwest. Finn is in a friends with benefits relationship with Poppy. Finn picks up Poppy up at the airport following a visit to her mother’s house. Finn decides that the friends with benefits relationship is no longer working for him. He wants to prove to Poppy that they could be more. Poppy has issues with trust and relationships. Conversation between Poppy and Finn flows so easily, from their playful banter and innuendos that even flow through the text stream between them. At Finn’s initial media meeting before the season begins, the interviewer questions Finn about his most eligible bachelor status and suggests that interest will settle down when he is no longer available. Finn jokingly responds that maybe he will tell people that he is engaged. A gossip site later posts that Finn is engaged and Finn’s agent informs him that he has received numerous endorsement deals because of his engagement. Poppy shares with Finn her dream to create a Someday Now foundation to help people turn someday into now, in memory of her late father. Finn and Poppy agree to a fake engagement and Finn will split the proceeds from the endorsement deals to fund her foundation. I love everything that Finn does to support Poppy’s dream of the Someday Now foundation. Both Poppy and Finn share secrets with one another that they have not shared with anyone before. Poppy suffers from insecurities because of a past relationship and is not sure that she can trust any man. Poppy is best friends with Finn’s sister, Layla. I love the chemistry between Poppy and Finn and how it changes with all their fake engagement events. Branch’s father, Leon has a heart attack so he and Layla head to be with his mother. They leave their daughter, Sunny with Finn and Poppy. As Poppy and Finn spend time together “fake engaged” and taking care of Sunny things quickly change between them, neither is willing to admit their true feelings for one another. I love all the heart-to-heart conversations that take place in Game Plan, especially the ones between Poppy and Finn and Finn and his mother. A heartbreaking plot twist changes everything between Poppy, and Finn and puts their relationship in jeopardy. Poppy finally reveals to Finn what happened with her last relationship. It was truly heartbreaking. I love everything that Finn does to get back together with Poppy and all the changes he is willing to make in his life to have a life and future with Poppy and all the changes that Poppy is willing to make in her life to have a life with Finn. I love that they finally admit their feelings for one another. I love I loved that Game Plan is more than just a romance, there are issues that both Poppy and Finn are facing that need to be resolved to have a life with one another. I love how the storylines get so beautifully resolved. I love the ending of their love story, especially Finn’s proposal with the engagement ring that Poppy liked most. So glad that Finn and Poppy got their happy ever after. Another favorite part is how the epilogue is the perfect ending to their love story. I love all the surprises that are revealed in the epilogue, it was my favorite part of the story. Another favorite part of the story is how Adriana Locke incorporates the title of the book into Poppy and Finn’s love story. I really enjoy how the book is told in the first person from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. I love how Adriana Locke always manages to create the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong, sassy woman on her own, to balance out the sexy, swoon worthy man. Adriana Locke continues to deliver all that and so much more. Game Plan is filled with poignant and bittersweet moments as well as plot twists and surprises that I have come to love and expect in an Adriana Locke love story. I especially love the moments that had me laughing. I love the characters and the family dynamic in Game Plan, the characters feel like family and friends. I enjoyed all the interactions between Finn, Branch, and Finn’s teammates, and Poppy’s relationship with Finn’s sister, Layla, it feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing. I loved catching up with Layla, Branch, and Sunny. I loved all the characters in Game Plan. Who does not love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? I thoroughly enjoyed Game Plan, who does not love a fake engagement/best friend’s brother love story. Highly recommend this incredible love. Received an advanced readers copy from the author.
Remember Finn Miller? He’s about to become your favorite golden retriever, cinnamon roll, honey man of all time.
Finn Miller and Poppy Quinn made their first appearance in End Game, secondary characters to Poppy’s best friend Layla James Miller, who is also Finn’s sister, and Finn’s Illinois Legends teammate Branch Best’s story. Insanely attracted to each other, Finn and Poppy had the perfect arrangement for young singles not looking to settle down: lots of fun, lots of benefits, no rules, no expectations, no commitments. But two years have passed and things are different – and Finn and Poppy’s opposite interpretations of what that difference means is the problem.
When a man asks Poppy out and she has no interest in him because he isn’t Finn, Finn is happy. But Poppy panics. To her this means the lines are blurring around their perfect friends with benefits setup and their friendship. To everyone around them they appear to be a couple, and Finn has known for a while he’s got it bad for Poppy, but she puts her hands over her ears and sings “la la la” whenever the ‘R’ word – relationship – is even hinted at, much less said aloud. Finn points out that they spend a lot of time together, have a regular routine together, know each other’s likes and dislikes – like boyfriend and girlfriend - but Poppy insists that’s just because they’re so compatible with the spicy stuff; and if things are becoming serious they need to step way, way back.
Finn is baffled and a little hurt, but agrees to stop the boyfriend-like behavior. Not exactly what Poppy was asking. However, Poppy doesn’t even really know what she was asking, but we are starting to realize Poppy has some secrets from her past that have made her certain, “Once you really got to know me, got serious, sooner rather than later you’ll find out how I really am and you would hate me; you wouldn’t want me.” Get the tissues ready because you’re going to need them.
Finn is clever, determined and incredibly patient – and a man with a plan. He needs a fake fiancé; she needs funding to start a foundation she believes in. Pretend to be engaged for a few months, get the scandal rags and internet bloggers off his back and secure a few lucrative endorsements. Win-Win. Poppy is reluctant but admits to herself that she doesn’t want anyone else to be his fiancé, fake or otherwise. Finn doesn’t know what it is that scares Poppy so, but sees this as his chance to prove to her that she can trust him, she’s safe with him.
All of Adriana Locke’s books make you laugh and cry and swoon, but Locke has taken it to another level with Game Plan. So many tender moments that just tug at your heart, so many tears – happy and sad – and so many unique, funny Finn and Poppy moments. Their physical attraction is still insane, but Finn wants Poppy to realize it’s just the icing on the cake, not the cake itself. Swooning yet? Poppy is much braver than she realizes but facing those fears and conquering old memories is hard; Finn knows just what to do to keep chipping away at that wall she’s constructed around her heart.
I received an advance copy of Game Plan from the author as part of her review team. This book with these wonderful characters, including favorites from the past, gives you all the feels and it’s one of those stories that makes you want to pick it up and start reading again as soon as you’ve finished. Recommend without hesitation. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.
“Because I know how I feel and I feel the same way about you right now as I did yesterday and the month before that and the year before that.”
Wave the Green flags! I mean really wave them, because Finn Miller IS an absolute green flag. Game Plane by Adriana Locke has restored my faith in book boyfriends. We meet Finn and Poppy in End Game which is Layla and Branch’s love story. Poppy is Layla’s best friend and Finn is Layla’s brother and Branch's former teammate.
Poppy and Finn have been friends with benefits for two years. It’s not that Finn doesn't want more, he does. Poppy isn’t a relationship gal. She has her reasons, but they are a secret even to Finn. He sets out to prove to her that they are more than just sex, but when an unexpected turn of events happens, Finn offers her a deal. She plays his fake fiance, and he splits their endorsement money with her so she can start her foundation “Someday Now” in hoor of her father and all the somedays he never got.
Poppy is chaos to his order and he wouldn’t have it any other way. She is afraid of the feelings that she has and what will happen if Finn discovers what she is hiding. The way he shows up for her, steadfast, anticipating her needs, putting her before himself in every way was just what she needs to feel safe and secure as her feelings for him only get stronger. HE stands his ground, while respecting her and the boundaries she has set, but there is always that reassurance that he isn’t going anywhere. Finn never lets her deter him from what he wants. Their banter is top notch and the spice is perfect. These two are HOT!
I found myself devouring this book every opportunity I got, and I fell even more in love with Poppy and Finn. I am a total goner for friends with benefits-turned love with a man who is DOWN BAD for his girl. If this is your jam too, then grab this one you'll be smiling from the very first page!
Quotes I Loved:
“…if you think that I don’t want you here …” I grin. Silly girl. “Running the risk of you freaking out on me, but I’ll put it to you like this—if you never left again, I wouldn’t be mad about it.”
“I’m afraid that if I go to sleep, I’ll wake up and none of this will be true,” he says, his words barely above a whisper. “I kinda want to stay up and just enjoy it.”
“And now, I’m here. You pass the ball to me, and I run with it as far as I can go. Then we reset and try again.”
I’m me because of my experiences. I’ve picked up pieces of the things I’ve done and the people I’ve met. Mostly, I’ve learned that family is everything, loyalty is required, and that if you don’t keep a neat line around your heart, someone will erase it, plant a bomb, and blow it up. Finn is no different. Only his life has taught him that you love unconditionally, you keep your word, and when the game is on the line, you carry the ball across the finish line, even if you have to carry a whole team on your back to get there.
“I show up for you because I want to. Because you’re the person I want to spend my time with, not because I expect you to earn it before you get to deserve it.”
*An advance reader copy was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.*
Finn Miller and Poppy Quinn have been friends with benefits for years. That’s enough for Poppy, but not for Finn. Finn wants what his sister, Layla and his former Illinois Legends Football teammate Branch (End Game) have ~ a life together. He brings it up to Poppy, and she quickly cuts off their benefits and downgrades them to just friends. Yet she pushes every single one of his buttons with her quick wit and smexy banter when they are in each other’s company because she knows he wants her as much as she wants him.
When a certain sleazy tabloid publishes a comment Finn said jokingly out of context, his whole world could have imploded. Instead, he turns it around to his advantage and to Poppy’s… if she’ll just agree to be his fake fiancée. Poppy definitely doesn’t want to see another women that close to Finn. After hearing him out, Poppy says yes.
What comes next wasn’t what Poppy couldn’t have ever imagined… within 48 hours, Finn and Poppy go on their first real date (which was amazing) and the next day, they step in to take care of Branch & Layla’s little girl, when there’s an emergency with Branch’s side of the family. Now Finn and Poppy have to navigate not just their fake relationship but figure out how to care for their 14-month-old goddaughter.
Finn and Poppy have mad chemistry. Their attraction is way off the charts. They are thrust into family life without a backup plan. As the week goes on and they find their rhythm, it looks like they can do anything, as long as they’re in it together. That’s when Poppy starts to realize that she does have real feelings for Finn and needs to figure out a way to make her brain believe what her heart wants.
Poppy is a strong, independent woman who knows what she deserves. She guards her heart so not get hurt again. There’s something in her past that only her immediate family knows about. She doesn’t want Layla, Branch and especially Finn, to find out and look at her differently. But that doesn’t matter when the situation comes to light, as secrets tend to do. Now Poppy needs to come to terms with how not to destroy Finn’s professional life with her past. The question is whether there’s any hope for them in the future.
I am not one to pick a favorite Locke character, but Finn has me rethinking that. He has total golden retriever energy, and I am here for this. The way that he puts Poppy’s feelings and needs first ~ always ~ is something we should all want in our other half. The patience he has by giving her the space she needs to come to terms with her feelings, and that no matter how bad it gets, he’s not going anywhere, is something woman can only dream of. This is why fictional men are better than (some) real men. Thanks Adriana Locke for giving us readers a real (fictional) man we would be lucky to have for ourselves.
Oh, how I loved this book! Sweet, emotionally rich, beautifully tender, and filled with something I don’t think we talk about nearly enough in romance: psychological safety.
And Finn? Good heavens. THAT is the man I’m looking for in real life! What made Finn so extraordinary wasn’t simply that he understood Poppy. It was that he loved her deeply even when he didn’t understand her. He didn’t always know what held her back, what made her vulnerable, or why certain pieces of herself were so difficult to share. But he never made understanding her a prerequisite for loving her. Instead, he quietly, consistently created a world where she felt safe enough to open up on her own terms. And perhaps the most beautiful part? He loved her until she believed she was loved. And then he loved her even more for trusting him with the pieces she’d kept hidden. When Poppy finally revealed her deepest vulnerabilities, Finn’s response came from this incredible emotional well that seemed reserved just for her. There was something so profoundly moving about a man who didn’t need to fix every broken piece, but simply wanted to make sure she never had to carry them alone.
And Poppy. Oh, how I felt for her. I saw so much of myself in this woman. Her chaotic nature, her fierce loyalty and love for her people, her confidence in so many aspects of life while still being so incredibly vulnerable in others. That strange contradiction of being strong, capable, and unapologetically yourself while carrying insecurities that even the people closest to you may never fully recognize. She was wonderfully human, and I loved her for it.
Of course, no Adriana Locke book would be complete without the incredible found family that makes her worlds feel like coming home. The banter, the loyalty, the people who show up without being asked, and that beautiful sense of belonging that stretches so far beyond the central romance. It’s one of the things Adriana does best.
But Finn and Poppy gave me something especially meaningful. They reminded me that the most beautiful love isn’t necessarily being understood perfectly. It’s being loved completely, even in the moments when understanding hasn’t quite caught up. It’s finding someone who doesn’t demand your vulnerability but earns it. Someone who makes being loved feel less like a risk and more like coming home. And that, my friends, is everything.
Now, if someone could kindly point me toward the real-life Finn department, I’d appreciate it.

Finn Miller is the greenest green flag of them all, and I loved every second of his and Poppy’s story. Adriana Locke delivers another swoony, heartfelt romance that completely stole my heart 💖 with irresistible chemistry, tender moments, and a hero who always puts his girl first.
If you’ve read book one, you already know that Finn and Poppy have an unconventional arrangement. They call it friends with benefits, but everyone around them sees something that looks suspiciously like a real relationship. As they spend more time together, Finn is happy to let their connection evolve while Poppy insists on keeping things strictly physical. In a move that is either brilliant or completely unhinged, Finn decides to prove they can be “just friends” by taking the benefits off the table. Even when Poppy tries to tempt him, he stays strong… or at least gives it his very best shot. 🤭
Their dynamic was everything: Finn is warm, patient, and completely all in, while Poppy keeps her heart carefully guarded. Then a gossip magazine 📰 publishes a false story claiming Finn is engaged, giving him a perfect idea: a fake engagement to Poppy. Finn gets more time with her while taking control of the tabloid narrative, and Poppy gets his help launching the charity she dreams of starting in memory of her late father. Win-win 😊 until all those pretend feelings start becoming very real.
Watching their pretend relationship blur into something undeniably real was so satisfying 🥰. Their week caring for Sunny while Layla and Branch deal with a crisis in Branch’s family adds an especially tender layer to the story. It also gives Poppy the space to recognize how consistently Finn has shown up for her … and how different that feels from the ghosts of her past.
What made this romance hit so hard was the way Finn made Poppy feel safe, seen, cared for, and supported 💗. He puts her first without ever pushing her, and while he has known for a long time that she is it for him, he gives her the space to reach that realization in her own time. Their emotional growth, genuine friendship, and irresistible chemistry had me completely invested. Finn Miller has officially raised the book-boyfriend bar 📚.
With its playful tension, tender emotional growth, and truly top-tier book boyfriend, Game Plan was an easy five-star read for me. If you love fake dating, friends-to-lovers, and heroes who set the standard, add this one to your TBR!
Now I'll be completely honest, I read Layla and Branch's story YEARS ago when it was still Lucky Number 11 instead of End Game- so my memory of it wasn't all there- and while I do wish that it was more fresh in my memory to make all those little crossover details click a little more, it isn't completely necessary in order to enjoy this book.
I loved Finn and Poppy so much. Finn Miller is such book boyfriend material- he is the stuff that I love when it comes to the MMC's of Adriana. While Finn is cocky and confident- which comes naturally when the man is a pro-football player- the man is also caring, respectful and is good about respecting boundaries even if he doesn't always understand or like them. I also swoon over the way that Poppy's dreams and goals also become Finn's dreams and goals for her- he is ready to support in anyway that she is comfortable with and that is just all kinds of man goals. Now Poppy is my favorite kind of chaos- she's messy, her brain is always on the move but she can lock in and is ready to jump to help those closest to her. But Poppy is also kind of battling her own demons- ones that make her think she can keep herself safe if she keeps feelings and romance out of her life.
Finn and Poppy obviously have chemistry- especially with the little tidbit that they had exclusively been in a FWB situation for 2 years- so it was interesting to see how easily and calmly Finn reacted to Poppy pulling back. I love how these two tease each other while also being so perfectly comfortable and at peace when together.
Poppy's past was heart tugging- and made her fear of relationships understandable.* There is mention/recollection of domestic abuse on page- so read with care if this is a sensitive subject for you. The way that Finn handled that part of Poppy's life- his reaction and ultimately the way his protective instincts jumped in was just done so perfectly for the way that Poppy would have needed him to hear and accept that information.
I have to say I'm a little intrigued with the way that last Expose post was shared- and what exactly that means for this world going forward- but I know I'm gonna have fun finding out!
