He'd die for her. Kill for her. Fight for her. But not love her. He didn't do love. Didn't want it. Hell, he didn't deserve it. Guys like him didn't get to be loved.

Diane Alberts remains one of my go-to authors in category romance for constantly delivering on the swoony and panty-melting romance with deliciously stubborn heroes. Her Shillings Agency series has been a favorite of mine from the beginning. I've been itching to get my hands on Steven's book since a little peek of him in Taking What's His. While this is book 5 in a series, it is also easily read as a standalone.

Steven Thomas is exactly the kind of hero I love to read about; a lot broody, broken, with a strong penchant for dirty talk. Still suffering from the remnants of his last tour as a SEAL, Steven turns to alcohol and women to heal him. But lately he's become almost too numb for even the strongest alcohol to do the trick. But one night after too many shots, he gets a whole new perspective on life...when he realizes that his best friend of over twenty years, Lauren may be open to more than friendship with him.
She was his one constant, in a world full of chaos.

Lauren has had feelings for Steven that she's tried to deny for years. She's been there for him though it all; his tours and the rock bottoms he hit after. But she's never seen him quite like this and she knows if she doesn't do something drastic soon it may be too late. So she tells a little fib to keep him close. But no good deed goes unpunished, and all of a sudden the fiery chemistry that's been brewing between them comes to a head and becomes too much for either one of them to deny.

But what happens when the man that despises lies above anything else finds out that the person closest to him has been deceiving him?

This was a sexy little friends-to-lovers romp. I love me my dirty talkers and Steven certainly didn't disappoint on that end. I enjoyed this thoroughly and read it in one sitting. I knew from the very beginning where everything was leading up to, but my issue with the book wasn't the predictability. I just failed to see the main conflict as being much of a...conflict. It just seemed a little contrived and blown way out of proportion for what it was. While I can understand Steven's issues, it just didn't add up for me I suppose.

That being said, I most definitely enjoyed this recent addition to the series and would gladly recommend it to any lovers of a sexy friends-to-lovers trope. It's a quick and entertaining read that's bound to leave you satisfied.
Let me be your lover. Your friend. The person you come home to at night, the one who holds you when you're upset. The guy guy who needs you as much as you need him. Let me be yours, and say you're mine.

Irresistibly sexy and sweet!!!!! If you are a fan of the friends to lovers trope then Say You're Mine by Diane Alberts is the book for you. Ms. Alberts has written a story that had the right amount of angst, drama, sweetness, and sexiness to keep readers entertained. I have always been a fan of best friends to lovers romance and let me just say Ms. Alberts has written one deliciously sexy romance.

#Say You're Mine1

Navy SEAL Steven Thomas has been best friends with Lauren Brixton since grade school and always knew he could on count on her for anything. She is the one person who knew the real Steven. And so when Lauren and Steven crossed that sexual line of their friendship, things begins to get blurred and complicated. Feelings begins to emerge. Will Steven finally see his best friend as the one?

Lauren has always been in love with Steven. She has witnessed his endless one night stands with different women. And when she finally finds herself getting her shot with Steven, she hoped that he would be able to finally see her. See her not only as the best friend but the one person who has loved him for so long. Can Lauren finally make Steven see her?

I have always been a Diane Alberts fan and Say You're Mine is another example of Ms. Alberts delivering a book that has the perfect blend of sexiness, love, and steam. The chemistry between Lauren and Steven were so palpable and tangible that you could feel their chemistry emitting right off the pages. And if you read the previous book, Taking What's His , then readers will be given an extra treat as we are reunited with my one of my favorite couple of the Shilling Agency Series, Holt and Lydia. All there is left to say, Say You're Mine was a fantastic addition to this series. This book was brimming with passion, love, and raw emotions to keep romance aficionados happy with this sweet and sexy love story.

Say You’re Mine rocks the classic falling in love with your best friend romance.

Lauren has always watched Steven play the field, never settling down. How can she trust a drunken night of passion has changed his ways?

Steven finally realized what has been missing. Its been standing right in front of him as his best friend Lauren. Now he just has to convince Lauren that its worth the risk.

A sweet and sexy romance between friends, Say You’re Mine was a perfect contemporary military romance. Caught up in their story, I found myself emotionally connected to the characters.

4 - "What's it gonna be?" Stars!

The fifth instalment in the Shillings Agency series gives us Steven and Lauren's story. Both featured a little in the previous book as Steven is Holt's friend and colleague and Lydia's older brother. We move from one tried and tested trope in 'Brothers-Best-Friend' to 'Friends-to-Lovers' in Say You're Mine. But when done well, both of which are personal favorites.

She was the one constant in a world full of chaos.

You could sense something was simmering between our couple in the last book and I liked that the author took the bull by the horns, and pretty much hit the ground running with their story. The sexy-times are plentiful, the story-line steady, and although wholly predictable in it's direction and resolution, it was easy to engage in and enjoyable to read.

"By the time I'm done, you're never going to forget what tonight felt like. What we did."

We are also introduced to the newest addition to the Shillings Agency staff roster in single dad Mark. Here's hoping he gets a story next, the 'Single Dad' trope is certainly one I really enjoy reading as well.

"I picked the right guy for once."

What a sweet story!

Two people who have been friends since childhood and remained close friends as adults, until they realized they couldn’t be just friends anymore. I guess Lauren has always known that Steven is the one for her, but Steven, not so much, although he got there eventually.

Given their history, it was understandable there would be wavering because turning friends to lovers is a delicate balance. If the lover part messes up, the friend part can be lost. Oh but when those 2 got together, eeeek, hot!!!

I swear, Steven is like a walking Hallmark card by the end with all the sweet words spewing out of his mouth. Every statement from this dude is like one wedding vow after another which I certainly don’t mind hearing over and over again. I even forgot the fact that whatever created the conflict near the end felt so trivial in my head. I didn’t care. Steven understood the meaning of grand gesture, as far as I’m concerned.

And you know what, I think I agree with all of Lauren’s decisions, just sayin…

This is a first Diane read for me, and yup, you got it, I don’t think it will be the last.

Steven and Lauren have been friends since either of them can remember. Through bad boyfriends, drunken nights and tours in Iraq the two have them have stayed fast in their friendship. They have never, not once, crossed the line that would take them from friends to lovers. But that would all change on one drunken night…

Steven is an ex-navy seal who is dealing with the invisible scars left by war. He drowns his fear and pain in copious amounts of alcohol and women. He’s hiding a secret pain from his past in war and as a result has a serious dislike of dishonesty.

Lauren has always been there for him. The one person who he could always depend on, the one person who has never lied to him. She is way too precious to him to allow their relationship to be broken by bringing sex into the equation, even he has been lusting after her for a while now.

Lauren, to me, was too perfect. She was the perfect woman with her tiny waist and large breasts. She was beautiful both inside and out and it caused me to view her as rather flat. I struggled to get my hooks in her because there was nothing bad about her, she didn’t make any mistakes. She was just the beautiful and good woman who would finally bring Steven to his knees.

But as I kept reading, even that couldn’t dampen my enjoyment of the book. Steven was an absolutely rocking character. He was sexy as sin and with his alpha way, the jealousy that peaked out at times, his filthy mouth and his absolute honesty. The things that came out of this man’s mouth, both dirty and just utterly romantic… GAH!

Even though I had a slow start getting into this story, after I finally got a grip on Lauren and she gained some lady balls and a bit of that Diane Alberts’ quirk I love so much, this was a fast paced read with a bit of yummy angst. The sexy times were incredible, mostly due to Steven’s filthy words and the tension that built between them as they both tried to deny themselves.

All in all a really enjoyable and fun little romance with a bit of angst and some heart felt emotion thrown in for good measure.

This is a well-written 'friends to lovers' story and an entertaining quick read. Steven is a Navy Seal who has returned from his stint overseas struggling to deal with the horrors he faced. He's been in self-destruct mode since then, drowning in booze and women. Lauren has been his best friend since forever. At the same juncture, they both seem to realize that they have more than friendly feelings toward each other and the story is essentially about their transition to lovers.

There is plenty of witty dialogue and tons of sexy scenes, and it's signature Entangled/Brazen.

I enjoyed Diane's writing style and the two mains were solidly developed and likable despite their flaws. I also liked Holt and Lydia and they were decent side characters. I assume Mark and Daisy's story is coming next and I look forward to reading that in the future.

For me, this book felt like it was missing an element. The story is purely about the romance and generally, I only enjoy contemporary romance where there is an extra dimension or layer to the plot. For example, with Elle Kennedy's Out of Hours series and Jennifer L. Armentrout's Gamble Brothers series (both from the same publishing house) there was a mystery/suspense/dramatic sub-plot running behind each romance that made it more intriguing and added more depth.

That said, I still massively enjoyed reading this book and if you are a fan of this series, or of this author, in general, then I think you'll love it.

3.5 Stars When you read a Shilling Agency book you know you are going to get men who have demons to conquer, a feeling they do not deserve the woman they pine for and then when they do fall for that woman... they fall hard!

This story had the man with the past... The long time girl who had been in the friend zone for years... and then the day of recognizing... they both loved each other...We experienced slamming hot sex between these two, some serious angst and just the right Brazen touch.

Say You're Mine by Diane Alberts

***Warning: this is an adult book, and for the eyes of mature readers***

Summary (from Goodreads):

She's a challenge he can't afford to lose...

Navy SEAL Steven Thomas has only ever been able to count on three things: waking up in the morning, going to sleep sometime during the night, and Lauren Brixton. She's been his best friend since grade school, and what they have is the only relationship he's managed not to ruin.

Until one drunken night puts that all in jeopardy.

Lauren's watched Steven flit from one-night stand to one-night stand, seemingly not interested in something more. So when the long-ignored attraction between the two of them blows up in their faces, she does the only thing she can-she pretends she doesn't want him. But all's fair in love and war, and Steven's not about to lose the only person in his life who matters...

What I Liked:

This book was a really fast read! There wasn't much to it, in terms of action, but this book was character-driven. I loved seeing Lauren and Steven work through their changing relationship. I'm not used to stories that are SO character-driven, but I liked this change of pace!

Steven and Lauren have been best friends since they were in elementary school. 20+ years later, Steven watches as Lauren goes from one awful boyfriend to another, and Lauren watches Steven drink himself to oblivion and go through women as often as he drinks. A Navy SEAL, Steven almost died in combat, and wants to wash away the disastrous mission that lost him his squad. Lauren has been in love with Steven, but she thinks Steven doesn't notice her. One night, things heat up and explode between them, leaving the next day awkward (as one would expect). But Steven isn't ready to go back to "normal" with Lauren - and Lauren isn't ready for Steven to break her heart.

I adore best friend romances, in which a guy and girl have been friends for forever, and perhaps one of them is in love with the other, but the relationship is totally platonic because that one friend is in the friend-zone, and the other friend either a) feels attraction but doesn't say anything, or b) really just does NOT notice the other person (which is usually the clueless male). Steven is semi-clueless in this instance, because while he HAS fantasized about him and Lauren, he knows better than to act on it and ruin this friendship. Lauren, on the other hand, has feelings for Steven, and he's "ruined" men for her. She dates a**holes but all she wants is Steven (which is weird logic).

Lauren is adorable! And such a nurturer. She's kind and smart and selfless, but she's also very playful and embraces her sexuality. Not to say that she is some brazen sex goddess BUT, she isn't afraid to ask for what she wants. Which is how she and Steven end up crossing the friend line.

Steven (I hate that name, by the way) is the tortured hero. His team of Navy SEALs died while he was only injured in the shoulder. He constantly wants to wash away the pain by drinking heavily and having lots of sex. Unfortunately for him, his two best friends, Holt and Lauren, and his sister, Lydia (who is with Holt) won't let him keep up his downward-spiraling ways. Steven is actually a really good friend and a half-decent guy when he isn't saying how terrible of a person he is. He puts himself down and then hides behind the a**hole act, but it isn't fooling Lauren.

I LOVE seeing the two of them together. They're so comfortable together as friends, and they are really good together sexually. Lauren poked the sleeping bear and something ignited between the two of them. Their chemistry is pretty hot! The steamy scenes were too - there was one scene in a restaurant where Steven's overprotective jealous streak was HILARIOUS to me (although, if I had been in Lauren's place, I probably would have been angry, not amused like I am as a bystander). There is a lot of passion between these two!

But their relationship undergoes a lot of emotional changes as well as physical, and I liked seeming them develop this new layer to their friendship. I love seeing friends become more than friends, beyond friends, and then beyond friends with benefits. Alberts did an excellent job with both the character development and the relationship development.

The climax - FOR ONCE, I actually really enjoyed "the breakup as a climax" trope. Steven gets upset with Lauren, things blow up, but I actually love the drama that ensued. It was quiet drama between the two, and NO ONE was playing any games. There was no miscommunication. One person said leave, the other left. One person begged forgiveness, the other said no, you told me to leave. No games! No miscommunication. And yet, the ending was VERY satisfying and happy.

This book was fairly short, with little going on in terms of action story, but a really developed story with great depth, in terms of the character arcs. I haven't read any of the other books in this series (there are four previous!), but I am definitely considering reading them now!

What I Did Not Like:

Not enough steamy scenes, and not enough "action" scenes. When I say "action", I mean events, going out, interactions. There is a lot of thinking and talking in this book. Not a terrible thing, especially when the book is so character-driven. But the story definitely could have had another well-written steamy scene (or two or three!).

Would I Recommend It:

I enjoyed the story, so I recommend this one! It's one of the few Brazen novels that I've really enjoyed in the past couple of months (definitely see Once Upon a Power Play by Jennifer Bonds!). I really liked how character-driven this book was (though I think the story could have benefited from another steamy scene!).

Rating:

4 stars. I'd not read anything by Alberts besides this book, but I am intrigued! Hopefully there will be another book, about Daisy and Mark! *crosses fingers*

I don't know how I feel about this book...
I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either!
It was fast paced but that wasn't the problem! The thing
that kind of bothered me was the situation between Steven&Lauren...

So the story about these two is that they were best friends for
twenty years! They had feelings for each other but never acted on them.
They both had problems Lauren always had jerk boyfriends and Steven was on Navy SEAL and had his deamons which he was trying to forget with drinks and women. They had one night together and everything clicked in their right places.

Now the thing that kind of bothered me was that their feelings were all
over the place...I mean one moment they wanted each other the next "I'm not good enough for her or I don't deserve her" or "she wanted him but couldn't show her feelings because she was afraid that he would run for the hills...So she pretended that their night meant nothing to her..." AND that was happening all the time...

They had some hot scenes...which was the good part of the book..

Say You're Mine is an enjoyable addition to Diane Albert's Shilling Agency series. I'm quite partial to a brooding, stubborn hero and Steven Thomas ticks those boxes nicely.

"He’d die for her. Kill for her. Fight for her. But not love her."

Suffering the after effects of his last deployment, Steven has turned his focus onto booze and women to numb the pain. A night out, a few too many drinks and his focus finally lands on Lauren, his lifelong best friend and person who knows him in every sense bar the biblical one. Lauren has fought her feelings for years but when the chance arises to take it to the a whole new level, she tells a little lie to help things along.

description

Together this couple brought plenty heat, and whilst some of the sex scenes were a touch repetitive and their journey fairly predictable, they were likeable and good together. If you're looking for an easy-read steamy enjoyable friends-to-lovers contemporary romance, then Diane Alberts has brought her reader that.

Steven has regrets, big regrets, and he's leaning on alcohol and women to get him through each day. He has three people he cares about, his brother Hoyt, Hoyt's wife Lydia, and his best friend Lauren Brixton. She's the girl he can count on and he'd never do anything to ruin it, until one night he starts seeing her in a new light. Lauren promised to be there for Steven always, but she's tired of ignoring her attraction and watching him go home with women who don't care for him and drown his sorrows in alcohol. Using a situation to her advantage, she convinces Steven to spend some time with her and when the attraction becomes too much for them, it tests their relationship as friends. They could become more or they could become nothing at all.

This is one fast read, this can be a positive or a negative for you, in my case it was just right. This is a fairly predictable story of friends to lovers, however it's the man who needs convincing after he's sworn of love. I was glad for that, because I am so darn tired of the girls not going after a guy friend because of his history. Get over it! Lucky for us readers, Lauren is a confident female character who takes risks and puts herself in situations that could work for or against her. I liked that the multiple POV allowed us to see each character as an individual and get to know them, similar to the other books in the Shillings Agency series. In this case, I liked knowing Steven's thoughts a lot, there's more to him that meets the eye. His willingness to risk everything for Lauren shows he had suppressed feelings about her all along and I like that Diane gave us a glimpse of their promises before war and who they became at thirty, after the war.

Unfortunately, this one suffers from several cliches and while the short length works for this book, it takes away from the romance that Lauren and Steven could have shared. I think a lot more could have been done between them on the transition from friends to lovers, however their smutty-sex scenes were certainly fun. The good news is, the drama isn't over done and is cleaned up in a good way. I didn't feel like it pushed under the rug like a lot of best friends to lovers books do, so that's a big plus.

If you're a fan of quick romances with some plot and a lot of sexy, the Shillings Agency series is absolutely for you. It can be read as a standalone, however characters from previous novels are main players in the plot line. I, personally, am looking forward to Mark's story, because the quick glimpse you get of him in Say You're Mine was just enough to hook me.

5 Steven is my new book boyfriend stars!

Oh my goodness, I LOVED this book from the very first sentence! This was such a fun, quick, playful, steamy, and emotional read that I didn’t want to put down. And when I did put it down, I couldn’t stop thinking about the characters. I gobbled it up like a box of Godiva chocolates and it left with a cheesy and swoony smile on my face when I finished it.

Steven and Lauren have been best friends since they were children and have always been in each other lives. They are the one constant in each other lives for the past 20 years. Steven is a former Navy SEAL and now works at the Shillings Agency as a security consultant and is very cynical about love and life. Recently back from the war, he is suffering from PTSD and survivors guilt. His sister and co-workers are so worried about Steven that they ask Lauren to keep a close eye on him.

Lauren has always had a bit of thing for Steven but has never believed that he would reciprocate the feelings, because he has always been a man whore and never looks at Lauren as anything more than a friend. Steven too has had a thing for Lauren, but doesn’t think that he is anywhere good enough for her. But as Lauren and Steven spend more time together in such close proximity, they can’t fight the chemistry between them.

HOLY HELL, is Steven sexy or what. He is just the kind of dirty talking alpha that I love! And he has to be the sexiest ginger (next to Prince Harry, of course!) that I have ever read about. I love how control he is in the bedroom, but he lets his guard down enough with Lauren to sometimes let her take control. Something that he has never done with any other woman. Another thing that made me really fall in love with this story was that Steven and Lauren actually took their time to talk about their fears and dreams with each other and it wasn’t something that was glossed over or implied. I actually got to be present for those conversations.

I read this book so quickly and was left wanting more. I ran to my nook to purchase the other books, only to find out that I already own all of them. Now I just need to clear up my reading schedule so I can marathon the rest of this series. I cannot recommend this book and author enough!

It’s time for another visit to the Shillings Agency and be prepared dear reader, this is the book we’ve been waiting for. Steven and Lauren….finally.

I love a friends to lover’s trope and this one has been a long time in the making so it makes it even better. So when I read the blurb and it was about Steven and Lauren, I may have let out a whoop of joy because I have wanted these two to open their eyes for what feels like forever and they certainly didn’t let me down. I loved their book.

Would you throw caution to the wind and cross the line with a friend you’ve had for over twenty years? And is there any way to go back to before once that line has been crossed and you’ve both seen how good it could be between you? Well that’s exactly what happens for Steven and Lauren. They not only crossed that line but obliterated it and have a mighty good time doing it. But what was meant to be a one-time thing can’t be out back in the proverbial bottle, the lust genie is free and having a doozie of a time.

“By the time I’m done, you’re never going to forget what tonight felt like. What we did. For the rest of our lives, when we see each other, all we’ll think about is this one night together. The only night I made you scream my name so loud it woke up the neighbors.”

Former Navy SEAL Steven doesn’t do commitment to women. The only woman he will ever commit to is his best friend Lauren and not in the biblical way either. But when did she get so hot and those curves? And why is he having these thoughts? He could never be good enough for her that way and doesn’t deserve happiness. Not after what happened on his last tour, the one that made him hate liars and himself.

Lauren, baker, best friend and pining after the one man she will never have. Steven. She holds all men up to his standard and finds them all lacking. But she would never cross that line with him. He’s been her best friend forever. So what if she finds him attractive, it doesn’t mean she will ever at on that. But he hasn’t been himself since he returned from overseas. She has to save Steven from himself somehow. Even if it means doing the one thing she never thought she would do.

When one little lie turns both their worlds upside down, things go from platonic to scorching in a bling of an eye. They go from friends to more and suddenly they can’t keep their hands off each other and themselves out of the bedroom. Who knew that this chemistry existed between them?

His thirst for her was ridiculous. They’d been friends for years without so much as a lingering touch, and now he simply couldn’t get enough of her? It made no sense…and yet it did.

As things go from uncomplicated to complicated they fall fast and hard. But when the truth comes out and harsh words are spoken and feelings trampled, can these two find a way to forgive each other and keep the happiness they have finally found or will it prove too hard to conquer?

Keep an eye out for cameos by Holt and Lydia the H/h of the last book and what’s happening between them. I loved them so it was fantastic to catch up with them.

This is a series that never wavers in its awesomeness. Each book just makes me love this authors writing more and throw in a Whovian reference or two and I’m a goner. I adored this book and can’t wait to dive back in for a re-read.

This is the fifth story in the Shillings Agency series and contains the fairly predictable trope of friends to lovers. In this case, Lauren and Steven have been friends since they were kids, and while at one point Lauren had a crush on Steven when they were teens, it never went anywhere. When Steven went off to war, he came back with a strong case of PTSD after the death of several of his comrades. Lauren's been his one constant. But he's starting to realize that the feelings he's having for her aren't so cut and dried anymore, and she's realizing the same. If they take that next step, will it mean the end of their friendship or the start of something even better?

While the events that happen in this story follow a predictable pattern - friends to lovers, wounded warrior who doesn't believe he's good enough for the girl, a night that changes things and could mean the end of their friendship, a secret that when it comes out might be unforgiveable - it was told in such an enjoyable and entertaining way that it's become my favourite of the Shillings Agency books. I totally bought into their friendship starting out platonic, but finally changing into something sizzlingly hot. The attraction between them causes all sorts of issues of course, mostly worry on both their ends that sleeping together is going to ruin their friendship. But the sex between them is really hot, and it's no wonder they can't keep their hands off each other, despite their vow of 'one night only'! I really liked both of the characters, Steven with his protective instincts and struggles with his PTSD, and Lauren with her fear of abandonment after a rocky childhood that has resulted in her difficulties trusting others. We get some great scenes with Steven's sister Lydia and his co-worker Holt (the couple in book four of the Shilling's Agency series, Taking What's His) and some hints of what could be to come. It was a fun, super sexy read. 5 stars.

This is my first book by Alberts and all I can say was wow! I actually really enjoyed it and finished it in one sitting. I am such a sucker for best friends falling in love and this story is honestly one of the best ones I have read.

Lauren and Steven have been best friends forever but have never crossed the line into anything else. Steven only does one night stands and Lauren only dates jerks. Lately Steven has been realizing his attraction to her but he doesn't know what to do about it.

One night after a few too many drinks they cross the line from friendship into the bedroom. Now Steven is willing to give it a chance but can they make it work or will promises that they made be broken?

I loved these two characters. They had a friendship but once they finally admitted they wanted to try to date I fell in love with them even more. They both knew each other extremely well which was nice.

This book had a lot of sexy scenes but it also had emotional ones which I thought balanced out the book perfectly. I enjoyed how Steven wanted to be the man she deserved and wanted to take it all the way.

After reading this book I definitely want to start this series from the beginning and get to know each and every character in the agency.

This was a fantastic read and I suggest adding it to your tbr list.

Lauren Brixton has been watching her BF, Steven, come and go during postings as a Navy SEAL. Friends since elementary school, she has secretly carried a torch for the winsome man, so his regular one-night stands suggest he wouldn’t be accepting of anything more.

Steven Thomas finds himself at the Shillings Agency, following a nightmare departure from the Navy. He doesn’t feel he succeeds at much so far, and when his drunken best friend suggests their burning attraction should be physically explored, he is alerted to the fact it could be a failure too.

Steven is Lydia’s big brother, and Holt’s best friend, who featured in the last instalment; Taking What’s His. I thoroughly enjoyed their story, so it was great to catch up with them alongside Steven and Lauren.

This series has been an easy read for me, without too much drama or complications. The characters are likeable, albeit a little samey, and this offering doesn’t provide anything different.

These stories certainly have their place, so if you’re looking for a swift, raunchy, friends to lovers theme, this series would fit the bill.

Say You're Mine is a sweet & sexy read. It's the first book in this series that I have read and I enjoyed it.

It has the romantic falling in love feeling to it. There are some small parts that are filled with some tension but overall, it's a very lovely story.

Steven is a retired Navy SEAL, trying to find life again in the general public. Lauren is his best friend for over 20 years. Steven finally realizes what's been in front of his face all these years. Lauren feels it but can't get past how Steven has always viewed all his past relationships.

Diane gives us a blend of passionate love, sexiness and the right amount of heat. You can feel the connection between Steven and Lauren - they are best friends but you can sense how that connection goes further. I loved how everything blossomed between them as the story progressed.

A sweet and enjoyable quick read.

This book contains two of my favorite tropes: wounded warrior and friends to lovers. I loved both Steven and Lauren. They've been friends since they were teens. Lauren feels more than friendship though, and Steven feels unworthy of love, especially after leaving the SEALs. The journey these two are on is emotional and made me tear up several times. I highly recommend this book! Other characters from this series are included but this book can be read on it's own without any confusion.

This is a friends to lovers story that takes a twenty year old friendship, throws in some sexual tension, a bit of alcohol, and then opens the floodgates of lust and hidden feelings.

But they've both got issues...and they are supposed to be off limits.

Steven is suffering from PTSD, guilt, loss, and anger. He's restless, stubborn, slow to trust, and has a decreased sense of self worth. He is afraid of relationships. He keeps a lot bottled up. But to his best friends and his sister he is loyal, kind, and selfless. Unfortunately he is also coping with his problems in unhealthy ways with alcohol and women. He has always thought of Lauren as his platonic friend even when others think they belong together. He lives a bit in denial of his true feelings

His best friend, Lauren, is sweet, caring, witty, and devoted to him. She's his constant and one of the only other woman he truly trusts. She had abandonment issues that seem to keep getting reinforced. She has bad taste in men and tends to jump in too fast. But no other men ever measure up to Steven in her eyes.

One night brings these two to a point of either advance or retreat. They do a little of both and change the whole game. They are both confused, skittish, fearful, and worried about what the consequences will be. They are now dealing with new feelings, jealousy, confusion, fear, and possessiveness. They both have triggers that the other are in danger of setting off. They are both afraid of losing their long time friendship. He was in need of a wake up call about his choices and this makes it necessary to figure out what he wants, needs, and if he can change.

But what happens when things get too complicated and real? Are they really meant to be or will they ruin it all?

I liked them both and liked them together. They had a fun rapport, deep connection, and hot chemistry. But they were exploring a whole new side of each other and dealing with their own changes and responses. So there was no doubt that it would not be completely smooth sailing for these two. It had angst and issues, but it was not overdone. And each of them had opportunities to learn, grow, mess up, be stubborn, grovel, and even beg.

This is a quick and easy read about friendship, lust, love, trust, opening up, and honesty. It was told in dual pov and was funny, sexy, sweet and romantic. It can be easily read as a stand alone but characters from other books in this series filter through. Steven's sister Lydia and his their best friend Holt from the last book Taking What's His are featured.

“I don’t have a clue what the hell I’m doing, or how this ends, but I’m gonna fight for this–whatever the hell it is, or whatever it could be–because with you, I’m me. The real me. But first, I’m going to become a man that is worthy of you, and then I’m never gonna let you go.”

Such a great friends to lovers romance! Say You’re Mine is the 5th book in the Shillings Agency series, but can totally be read as a stand-alone.

So, once again, I’m reading this series out of order and am totally kicking myself for not reading this series sooner!!! Say You’re Mine is well written and intrigued me from the very first page. I am a sucker for a good friends to lovers romance and I gotta tell you, this one does not disappoint. I don’t know how these two avoided their chemistry for so long because I gotta tell you, their chemistry; it was SCORCHING! I mean HOT. Steven and Lauren burned up the pages together. I loved the deep and intense friendship that they shared. They had incredible push and pull and I could not wait to see these two stop fighting what they wanted.

Steven was intense, domineering and possessive. Lauren is the only person he’s ever been able to be himself around. She brought him back to life when he thought all was lost. So, he’s trying to be very careful to not blur the lines with her. And Lauren, she’s always had a thing for Steven, but just assumed that they were destined to only be friends. But, when an opportunity presents itself, Lauren can’t help but take the risk and try to take Steven for hers….

What can I say about Say You’re Mine? Well, Say You’re Mine was a quick and easy read for me. I devoured Steven and Lauren’s story. I could not get enough of these two. I loved that their story was told from dual points of view, so you really got to understand where both of the characters were coming from. Lauren and Steven’s story gave me everything that I was looking for and so much more. I loved the angst and the romance. God, the angst really tugged at my heart and made me so excited to see how things would play out. And the romance! Steven made my heart swoon! With lines like these: “Let me be yours, and say you’re mine.” and “Your laugh makes me think the future isn’t so bleak. It gives me hope for a better life. A better world. If you’re in it, it’s brighter. There’s just no escaping it.” and “For you? I’ll promise it all.”: it was impossible to not fall in love with him, no matter how much he frustrated me!!”

I really enjoyed Say You’re Mine. I can’t wait to go back and discover the rest of the books in this series!

Diane Alberts is easily one of my favorite Brazen authors. I always fall for her heroes and love her heroines. Her Shillings Agency series is fantastic and I'm happy to see it continue with Say You're Mine. I don't like to play favorites, but if I did, this would totally be my favorite in the series so far. It was hot, sweet and even had quite a bit of feels. I loved everything about this book.

The friends to lovers trope is one of my favorites and I love what Diane did here with Steven and Lauren. Their story was of the unputdownable variety. Best friends who had never explored any chemistry or non-platonic feelings they had for the other, it just took one night to change all that. There was the excitement of potentially falling for their best friend as well as the fear of losing them if things began to go south. I felt every feel and loved every minute.

It could probably go without saying that Diane writes amazing heroes. They're all alpha on the outside, but sweet and even a bit vulnerable underneath. They love their women and they'd do anything for them. What more can a woman ask for? You know I love a good dirty talker and *fans self* Steven definitely fit the bill. Wowza. I melted right along with Lauren when he got started. And Lauren? I freaking loved her. She was strong and honest and real. She was unafraid to call Steven on his crap when he needed it and she was the furthest thing from a fragile flower in need of a man to fix/protect/save her. Women like this are my favorite type of heroine.

If you like your romance sexy with a side of feels, look no further. Say You're Mine should be on your TBR. I hope this isn't the end of the Shillings Agency series. But even if it is, I'll be looking forward to seeing what Diane gives us next. And I'll probably be rereading this one sometime in the near future, too. It was just that good.

Say You're Mine is the first book in the series that I have read, and my first by Diane Alberts, it was a good enjoyable short book.

It a pleasant love story, not overly complicated by drama or angsty hero's, Steven is a retired Navy SEAL, trying build his life outside of the military. Lauren is his best friend for over 20 years. It's not instalove, Lauren doesn't believe Steven can hold down a relationship, she's been on the sidelines watching, as other women in his life have come and gone too easily.

I like Diane's writing style, you could feel the connection between Steven and Lauren, there was a perfect balance of romance and sexy, without over the bedroom theatrics that suited this story and how the characters were portrayed. I'll definitely be reading more!

The pic above pretty much sums up the way I feel about Navy SEAL Steven Thomas. Oooooh that boy is hot. Do you need to know anything else?

The summary for this is pretty spot on. BFFs Steven and Lauren have a one-night stand that gets them both realizing they want more. They've both got reasons for not wanting to explore a relationship, the least of which is the fact that neither want to ruin their friendship. It isn't long before they're wanting to break the rules they've set for themselves.

Like I said, Steven is hot. Diane Alberts consistently writes super hot characters with amazing characters, which is why she's one of my favorite authors. You can't go wrong with Say You're Mine if you're looking for a fast-paced swoonworthy read with chemistry and heart.

3.5. I have my review up on my blog www.mynightreads.wordpress.com

When I first started reading this I did not know it was the 5th book in the series. I now want to read the previous 4, but either way this story was still really entertaining. I have read other books with the friends to lovers story line, but each one I read always has its differences. This one was no different. You could really feel the tension between Steven and Lauren. You knew there would be something more with them eventually. But it was fun seeing them go through those stages of admitting it to themselves that they wanted more. And those are the most fun ones of all, seeing them in denial and then BAM they get the feelings and emotions of why things have not worked out between others before and realize that all they ever wanted was right in front of them the whole time. Thank you so much InkSlinger for letting me read this book, I am really looking forward to reading the previous books, especially Holt and Lydia’s story.

I liked the (previous?) book - and I liked this one too.

Stephen is an ASSSSSHATTTT. And Lauren is great, but I totally don't like how the OMG LIE drama exploded. The whole ... "SHUT UP" scene by the trashcan is so true to life and perfect though (you'll have to read it - right before the misunderstanding)

Anyway ... I don't even really see why/how it was a lie - she was worried. So the MAJOR CONFLICT felt a bit contrived and he way over reacts and needs to be slapped upside the head ...

but I can see myself rereading this book. I love friends to lovers, and it's sexy and emotional. Just. ... I get why he's so FANATICAL about no lies and just ... breaking apart [slowly?] - but just ... use your fucking brain, you know? >.>

*I received an ARC for my honest review*

Steven and Lauren have been best friends since the 4th grade. Over the years they have watched each other go in and out of relationships all along knowing those were the wrong people for them. Will they act on their feelings and possibly ruin a life long friendship?

Steven has demons, demons that have haunted him since he's gotten back from war. He's got a dirty mouth and I'm a sucker for dirty mouths and at times can be a jerk, but hey I like those too in a book boyfriend.

Lauren has been burnt way too many times to just give her heart to anyone. I felt she was a good strong character.

Overall good story
