Insightful

This book is difficult to rate. Yes, I liked it and yes I would recommend it. It goes into depth as different women go through life and endure what we think we have to, just to keep our selves together. This book is about one such women called to a seemingly simple jury summons she didn't want to be involved in and how it changed her life and the way she looked at life. This book takes the reader through the feelings, thoughts and changes, though not easy will give her strength and courage as we see her pain in her journey from being a doormat and facing certain childhood pain to becoming the strong and dependent woman she is forced to become. This story touched me in matters of my own struggles and pain in my own life as I'm sure it will touch you. Although fiction, you get the idea that the author has actually lived what this woman's journey and you just can't help putting yourself in the main characters life and feeling the things she goes through and learns from her seemingly simple jury summons.

Taking back life

When Leigh Blackburn gets called for jury duty she is forced to see her life without the blinders she has built and kept on over the years. Her mother raised her to always be in defensive mode, always responsible for keeping the peace and responsible for her keeping her mother placate. When she comes to realize she married into the same role she knows it is time for change. She must maneuver herself and her son Ben through the needed changes. She learns that while it takes a toll she is strong enough.
Finishing made me feel a loss for a friend in my life. I will wonder what Leigh and Ben are doing. That is a really good indicator of a good book to me.

Understated and number as nuanced story about loveless but seemingly good marriage

I hate cutsie love stories with cliches for characters. Not so in these well developed characters. Interesting portrayal of the many ways families deal with sexual abuse and with the conventions of traditional marriage roles. All of these roles are played out in the complex relationships of a jury in an abuse trial and in a marriage that looks perfect on the outside d e but is emotionally sterile. Excellent book. I would read it again!

Couldn't put this book down

This is a compelling contemporary fiction with nuggets of truth and revelation. I liked the heroine and her son so I really cared about her outcome. A proofreader for punctuation would improve the overall experience. I was on a criminal jury and the selection process was different but similar enough to ring true. The support of Mrs B the next door neighbor gave a viable glimpse of options not chosen. All in all I highly recommend this book.

Real-Life Fiction

I felt such a real connection to Leigh. This story was written with brutal honesty. Life is full of little moments of joy, along with huge moments of heartache. It's how you face your fears and appreciate your blessings that determine whether you lie down and succumb or stand up and live Your life on your own terms.

2 Meanings

Just as the title of this book is 2 words with completely separate meanings, Burns crafted her book to be the same. Woven together tactfully the story merges to completion.

Wow

I won't say I enjoyed this book. It hard to explain. I couldn't go to sleep until I finished. The subject matter was tough, that is the reason I can't say I enjoyed the book. Highly recommend.

I truly enjoyed this read. It was predictable in a comforting way, moved quickly, and included interesting development.
The woman, like so many, had no desire to engage in jury duty. It turned out to be a gift.

i received this book for free years ago and just now got around to reading it. i have become tougher with my stars so when the author reads this, i hope she doesn't take offense! i have a few writers in my family and i know a book is like your baby!

i enjoyed the story mostly because the main story line blossomed into a sub story that was raw and personal. it was a fast read and, although not quite a cliff hanger, i still enjoyed picking it up to see what was next!

thank you for the opportunity to read this novel that ends up with hope for a new tomorrow---for people who have insurmountable steps in their lives.

The plot and writing were adequate (not spectacular). My main issue was the characters. They had so little depth to them. The author tried really hard to make them multi-dimensional & realistic, but they fell flat for me.

Love it!

This is the second book of Ms. Burns that I have read. I love her style of writing and her subject matter. She writes just like someone is telling you a story.

The plot was intriguing, but the writing was very sloppy. Can't believe this went to publication without better editing.

"Deliberate" by Dixie Burns

My Thoughts....

What a life Leigh Blackburn had and it definitely was not a easy one! Who would have thought that after she had been called to serve on a jury that her eyes would be opened about her life..with her husband and even her mother. But one thing that is for sure Leigh knew that she had to get it all together not only for herself but for her son Ben. This was not a happy read... definitely a tough one, however, there were a lots of lessons to be learned from this well written story that will leave you thinking about long after the read. What will happen when Leigh comes to believe it is time for a change?

Be ready for lots of drama and suspense as Leigh deals with being summoned for jury duty, her husband and mother. What will happen as Leigh decides to take charge and move on with her life?
I did enjoy some of the witty humours time while she was on jury duty[in the courtroom], with her son and her neighbor and four dogs. This was quite a interesting read of how this main character [Leigh] was able to 'deliberate her own life while deliberating the fate of an accused person.' If you are looking for a poignant and touching story the reader will have one here..for "Deliberate" will bring it all to you in one relatable story.

Different

The book was different from what I normally read. It was okay, just not that exciting. I love reading so I finished it. I think it became better after the first couple of chapters.

A real-time tale.

Leigh gets chosen to sit on a jury and during the deliberations, somehow discovers she no longer wishes to be married anymore. How does she and her young son get on.

Deliberate

I enjoyed this story as it gives you a glimpse into one woman's life that she was content to continue living until she has to sit on a jury and decide the fate of another person. You never know what will cause you to stop and start living.

Nice, book

Good read kept you guessing on who was the culprit in the child molestation. Also brought forward details of divorce and how one can be blind to a cheating man.

This was a good book and seemed really like real life. I do feel bad in the end for her because she deserved so much more.
