Jessie Donovan has sold over half a million books, has given away hundreds of thousands more to readers for free, and has even hit the NY Times and USA Today bestseller lists. She is best known for her dragon-shifter series, but also writes about magic users, aliens, and even has a crazy romantic comedy series set in Scotland. When not reading a book, attempting to tame her yard, or traipsing around some foreign country on a shoestring, she can often be found interacting with her readers on Facebook. She lives near Seattle, where, yes, it rains a lot but it also makes everything green.
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***Received the ebook from the author from an honest review
Part One This is the fourth serial set in this series. While you don’t have to read the other sets before reading this one, I highly recommend that you do because you really get to know all the characters and how they interact with each other, and there definitely is synergy involved meaning all of the parts add up to more when they are all read rather than only reading one set. Jessie happens to be my favorite serial series writer because she does it so masterfully. Her dragon series is definitely one of my favorite series, and I own most of it, and if it is missing right now, it will be added later :)
This is Kai and Jane’s story (his favorite reporter)! He is the typical alpha dragon, and since he is head Protector for his clan, he expects when he barks out an order that everyone will obey. Jane has experience with bossy men, and she does things her way. She is sassy, brave, and fun. The chemistry between them is sizzling. This part is setting up their story, and they are both trying to track down the Hunters and for different reasons. Not much in the way of action, but tons of background on both and plenty of those inner dragon arguments that I love :) I can’t wait for the next part :)
Part Two This is the 2nd part of this serial novella series. This is also for adults only due to the randy thoughts of Kai and his dragon.
I always get excited when I get new Jessie Donovan story. She is the QUEEN of awesome serials. She has figured out how to do it right. Her stories are always complex and full of action, drama, and wonderfulness. Kai and Jane’s story is no different. Tons happened in this story, and I hate where it ended because I was so into the story. I can’t wait for the next part!!
Part Three This is still Kai and Jane’s story. This part did not have much in the way of fighting and action, but there was plenty of drama and building up, I can’t wait to see what happens :)
Part Four This is the fourth part in this serial, and it now means it is complete. Jessie Donovan really is the queen of serials. She has figured out how to write them, so you are hooked and always coming back for more. She also does it in a way where you feel like you are getting a story even when it is only part of it, and that is why she is the master :) I love reading her work and always buy them to add them to my collection, and this one is definitely going to be added to my collection too!
Kai and Jane are great together. There is plenty of action and steamy scenes. This means it is for adults only. I don’t want to give anything away, so all I will tell you is that I was pulled right in and didn’t want it end. I can’t wait to see what Jessie comes up with next :)
I highly recommend this series to any dragon or shifter fan because you will definitely enjoy this awesome series!!
3 1/2 stars - This was good, but I could not give it 5 stars. It ended too abruptly! It was as if the author was on a deadline and had to just put a final thought in.
After all the mystery of Maggie Jones I thought there would be a kiss and a mating frenzy, but true love would prevail. Instead it was as if Maggie had not changed or aged in 12 years. The ending was not good. That whole concept lasted 5 seconds. It ruined the whole thing for me. I hope this author gets back on track. I have loved all of the books in this series, but this one was headed in that direction until the Epilogue.
Spicy dragon love done right! This spicy dragon story will have you fanning yourself from start to finish as the two main characters, both stubborn and independent, battle for control in the relationship until they realize what a partnership could/should/would look like! Well plotted to continue the story of the dragon communities battling dragon hunters and others out to do their community harm and the humans that they have fallen in love with. This series has really sucked me in and has me enthralled with the individual relationships in each book as well as the overall theme running through the books of trying to overcome prejudice and gaining equality as well as freedom. All the books in the series have some spice, but this one definitely heated up the sheets so to speak!!
I love how the authenticity and in depth development of the background of the story mixes with the supernatural reality that the characters live. The interactions between the characters were genuine and the world was larger than life. The dragonshifters really step it up a notch in this one. Kai’s latest mission really has me intrigued, even if it’s all going skewbald already. Donovan mixes action, suspense, and comical interludes in such a natural manner that I couldn’t put it down.
I love how Donovan develops her dragon shifters & their world just a little more with each new story. Stonefire is a larger than life place that is seeped with history, mythology, and fantastic characters. The dragon-human interactions are priceless and really show a lot about who the dragon shifters are.
Donovan’s inviting yet snarky style really brings her characters to life. It’s as if I can really feel them, allowing me to know them on a much deeper level. The Kai-Jane dynamic was absolutely priceless. The aura about them is unforgettable and infused with unmistakable chemistry. Jane & Kai are so cute & sweet together. But they also sizzle. I love how their relationship is more than just hot, more than simply a mate bond. There’s true friendship there too. Kai’s dragon may be my favourite one yet. It has such a personality of its own and was so much fun. Kai’s over the top jealousy was perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed this crack in his perfectly polished veneer. His alpha-ness on the outside & his vulnerability on the inside makes him a character that you can’t forget. Jane’s assertiveness puts her on par with Kai, making them quite the couple. Their interactions are so real & genuine, while at the same time being larger than life.
The romantic tension between these two is palpable, and apparent in every aspect of the story. Combined with the fast paced, danger fraught story Donovan has created a winning story.
Maybe the first time is not meant to be. That first rush of love that happens in youth and steals the ability to have rational thoughts. The one that devastates when it doesn’t work out the way we imagined. But then fate finds a way. And when the time is right, places the most perfect match in our paths and lets nature take its course. This is one of those times. Where second chances lead to the best days of the characters lives. I loved the world building and character development in this story. The author expertly built on her own foundations to create a love story for the ages. I enjoyed the way they clashed, dueled, and eventually connected in a way that removed past hurts and built bridges to the future. Not to mention the hints of more to come. This book captures the attention and the heart creating an afternoon that I hoped would never end.
I really loved this book. Jane is a reporter who in previous books has done interviews with the human sacrifices and it has made her a target with the dragon hunters. She works with the head protector Kai to try to find the location of their base. Jane is a wee bit annoying though! As she answers him back all the time and it gets a bit annoying. He likes it though.
*Spoiler alert*
The big disappointment with this book is that Kai’s true mate turned him down many years ago. So while there is a happy ending I was so disappointed that she wasn’t a true mate. To be honest I wouldn’t have read it if I’d known. There’s something so romantic about true mates and the mating frenzy. I was hoping all the way through the book that it would happen.
I absolutely loved Kai's story, but most of all I loved his dragon and the way he sided with Jane. He thought more about her feelings than his own.
Kai falls hard for Jane, but he is so afraid she won't want to stay at Stonefire, he has to convince her somehow because he wants this human who can take all that he dishes out She's his last chance at happiness and to top it all off, his bloody dragon is on her side!
Jane is so afraid to take a chance on the dragonman, what if his past comes back to haunt her. Will she be able to handle that?
I really enjoy reading about Ms. Donovan's dragons, I so want to keep reading about them, these are the one serials I can handle and so will you.
I was given this book on exchange for an honest review.
What happens in this book? A the beginning, Jane, the super reporter, decides to dress very provocatively to make the Knight Hunters tell her their secrets at a bar. It was a coincidence that Kai was just across the street trying to get information out of them, too. So Kai intervenes, takes Jane out of there, hot chemistry, more Hunters, gunfire, flight, back at Stonefire, kiss, kiss, plan, end.
I really didn't feel like anything that important happened in the second and third part of this book. And I got tired of how they wanted to compete in everything. And then they were cheesy.
DRAGONS SAY THE DARNEDEST THINGS !!! ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL!!! Title: Reawakening the Dragon Series: Stonefire Dragons Designation: Part One thru Four, Complete Bundle, Standalone, No Cliffhanger Author: Jessie Donovan My Rating: FIVE DRAGO-LICIOUS STARS ***** Oh my glory! Part One: BBC reporter Jane Hartley desperately longs to be more than just a pretty face on camera. She wants to be taken seriously - to be a respected investigative reporter and is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve her goal including placing her own life in imminent danger. In order to write the story that could change the course of her career, she knows she must find the new location of the dragon hunters. She has gleaned information from every possible source and finally has a lead on the possible location for the Carlisle hunters. If she can pull this off, not only will she have the story of the year but she could also help sway public opinion even more in favor of the dragon-shifters. After working closely with the Stonefire Dragon Clan, she now knows they are not the monsters the Dragon Hunters and the Dragon Knights have portrayed them to be. Well, maybe none except head protector Kai Sutherland. Investigating this story and becoming acquainted with the people from Stonefire has reignited her desire to discover the truth and she's determined to find the hunters, expose them for the monsters they are and have her story - even if it kills her. Unfortunately, it just might since no human has ever revealed the inner workings of the dragon hunters but that's exactly what she intends to do. And she was doing just fine until Stonefire's head protector, Kai Sutherland showed up and threw a monkey wrench in her well laid plans. Who does he think he is anyway??? She will never allow the sexy Stonefire dragon-shifter to interfere with her investigation! Or would she??!! No, she will not! At least not until she's finished her story and secured her reputation as a truly respected investigative reporter. Visions of sugarplums and Kai naked will just have to wait! Or will they??!! Nope, she can't afford to sleep with the handsome protector, especially if she doesn't want her story to be labeled as biased. That would only serve to destroy her credibility and her reputation. It'll be torture but she can most assuredly resist the growly dragon-shifter. Can't she?? After the capture, torture and death of Stonefire's first female protector, ex-army dragon-shifter Kai Sutherland has only one objective - protect his clan by locating and taking down Simon Bourne, leader of the Carlisle dragon hunters. And in the process, he can also seek retribution and revenge for his brethren. And his plans are going well until he finds BBC reporter Jane Hartley right smack in the middle of a group of Carlisle hunters in a pub in Newcastle. What the heck? He will not allow his dragon's lust for the beautiful female reporter to disrupt his mission and he will never, ever share information and work with her! Nope, never! He will never allow himself to be distracted by a female ever again! Or would he??? What in the world is wrong with his dragon? Eleven years ago, he had been rejected by his true mate, dragonwoman Maggie Jones of Snowridge Clan, but for the first time since his heartbreak, he has finally been able to forget the female who should have been his mate - just by listening to Jane's voice. Oh my! But he doesn't have time for a human nor any female for that matter, so her voice is all he could allow himself to have. Now, if he could only get his dragon to shut the hell up!
Part Two: Stonefire Head Protector Kai Sutherland has finally agreed to work with BBC reporter Jane Hartley on finding the location of Simon Bourne and the Carlisle Dragon Hunters. Unfortunately, they are unaware that the Dragon Knights have posted a 5000 pounds bounty on Jane's pretty head. As they begin their mission, Jane is betrayed by her contact, a man referred by her brother Rafe Hartley who is a member of The UK Special Forces. Uh oh! An attempt is made on Jane's life and Kai is injured trying to protect her. Fortunately, the pair is rescued by another protector, dragonwoman Nikki Gray, and returned to Stonefire where Kai can receive treatment for his gunshot wound. Kai may be injured but that hasn't curbed his dragon's lust for the lovely reporter - not one little bit. His dragon is driving him insane! After two mind-blowing kisses, Kai can no longer deny his attraction for the sassy reporter and discovers that he may desire Jane just as much as his dragon. With Jane now in charge of Kai's care and living in his home back on Stonefire, it just got a whole lot harder for the stubborn pair to resist each other and if Kai's dragon has any say in the matter, Kai may just have a new mate - that is if he can keep her alive and away from the Dragon Knights as well as the Dragon Hunters. Oh my! And he still can't get his dragon to shut the hell up! It may not be possible for a dragon to have more than one true mate but Kai's dragon is sure determined to have Jane! Now that a bounty has been placed on her head, Jane is in even more danger than before. She doesn't want more people getting hurt because of her story. For her own protection, Bram insists she must stay on Stonefire land and as a result, she's afraid her credibility may now be compromised. That in itself may not be so bad but she's still determined to help sway public opinion in favor of the dragon-shifters and possibly with the aid of her big brother Rafe, she still may be able to help. But is Jane willing to sacrifice her story, her credibility and her reputation to have Kai? It would be hard for any woman to be objective around handsome dragonman Kai but judging from her body's reaction to his two kisses, it may well be worth it! Will she be able to resist Kai - that is if his dragon can convince him to make a move???
Part Three: Kai is now recovering from his injury under the watchful eye and care of his new houseguest. Yep, you guessed it - Jane Hartley. And Kai's very randy, rambunctious dragon seems to have developed a one track mind and Jane Hartley is the only car on the track! Oh my! After Kai opens up to Jane about his past and the events that followed his true mate's rejection, Jane is more determined than ever to have a relationship with the handsome dragonman. She wants him and has made up her mind to give him a chance and once Jane Hartley makes a decision, she gives up all doubt and embraces her choice and she's definitely ready to be embraced by Kai Sutherland. And it seems that Kai as well as his dragon desire their lovely houseguest. They both want her - now! Unfortunately for Jane and Kai, there are other pressing issues at hand. Namely, Jane's brother, Rafe Hartley of the UK special forces who has just arrived to lend a helping hand to Stonefire, albeit begrudgingly. And he doesn't like the fact that his sister is now living with a dragon-shifter. Oh my goodness! Nope, not one little bit! But maybe Stonefire Protector Nikola Gray can change his mind or just give Rafe a much needed attitude adjustment like a swift kick in the pants. Oh no! Oh yes! Nikki and her young dragon are both very much attracted to Rafe Hartley and have been ever since she saw him while serving in the military. He's the only man, human or dragon, to whom she's ever been attracted. And in the words of Nikki's dragon, "Young dragons need sex and kisses. Find me some!" I love Nikki's dragon! But Nikki has to be careful. She's tired of only being known as the first born from a human sacrifice. She wants to earn the respect of her clan and helping Kai take down the dragon hunters would be a great way to start. Besides, humans are too complicated and fragile, something she certainly doesn't have time for right now not to mention the fact that it's not allowed. What? It's been four years since she's seen Rafe and her dragon is still driving her crazy about him. Female dragon shifters can rarely recognize their true mates until they kiss the male and her dragon is determined for Nikki to manipulate Rafe into kissing her! Oh my goodness! According to their laws, it's Nikki's duty to mate with another dragon in order to produce a dragon-shifter child. Rafe and Nikki can never be together, could they? Not with his attitude! It looks like love is in the air at Stonefire! It's a war of wills at Stonefire and I can hardly wait to see who wins.
Part Four: Kai has finally recovered from his injuries and has been cleared for duty by Dr Sid. She has also cleared him for certain other activities as well. Umm.... I'm sure you get the picture as to what the "other activities" are. It seems both Kai and his dragon are totally enthralled with the beautiful Jane and are determined to have her in their home, their heart and in their bed. Oh my! And Jane definitely wants not only Kai but she also wants his dragon on board as well. The risk of seeing Maggie and succumbing to the pull of his true mate worries Jane. It would break her heart if she gives up everything for Kai only to be left holding an empty bag and heart. But in the meantime, there are more serious matters to consider - like surviving the Dragon Knights. As always, Jane has a plan for luring the Dragon Knights into revealing themselves and hopefully being captured by the DDA. Oh yes, when does Jane not have a plan? But will it be good enough that Bram will give the go ahead and will they be able to stop the Dragon Knights for good? Will Jane be willing to trust Kai and his dragon and take a chance on a future at Stonefire? Can Kai's dragon find happiness with Jane? Will Jane give up her career and come to live permanently at Stonefire with Kai? Will the DDA ever allow it? Will Kai be able to protect Jane and his clan from the dragon hunters and the Dragon Knights? Does Rafe remember Nikki and is he even attracted to the beautiful, courageous Stonefire Protector? Will Rafe be able to help Stonefire and protect his sister from harm? Hmmm...I wonder??? No spoilers from me but I will say this....Beautiful determined reporter-check! Handsome head protector dragon-shifter-check! One very randy and exceedingly stubborn dragon-check! A possessive, pig-headed, domineering big brother in the special forces who is determined to protect his sister-check! A beautiful young dragonwoman determined to earn the respect of her clan-check! A large, diverse and very intriguing cast of characters-check! Danger, suspense, adventure and heinous enemies galore-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, sexy banter, a little self imposed angst and some steamy dreamy sex with a hot hunky dragonman-you bet! And the icing on the cake - many of our favorite characters from Jessie's earlier series make an appearance and lend a helping hand. That and a whole lot more!!! Save a dragon - ride a dragon-shifter! Deliciously cute, seriously sexy, fabulously funny, completely captivating and delightfully entertaining. Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read! Complimentary copy received in exchange for an honest review.
I thought that I loved Mel and Tristan but I was wrong. I have to say my favorite couple has to be Kai and Jane. I loved the fact that they were not instant makes like all of the other couples in this series so far. I like that they had to fight to be together and that it was not an instant mating. I liked the fact that they both had to work on a relationship. This couple is the most relatable couple so far. There was trust issues that needed to be worked on and also fears.
I hope that Jessie Donovan revisits Kai and Jane like she did with Mel and Tristan and Evie and Bram. I want to know what is going on with them and if they will have babies.
It was alright. But some of the wording just bugged me. Kai rarely referenced Jane by her name. They just called her their human or female. It just felt a little dehumanizing. I know with shifter books their dialogue is different with inter species relationships but I think this was over kill. There were some minor continuity errors that bugged me. But in the end it had no real impact. An example was when Nikki shifted and arrive with Jane at stonefire it never said if she got clothed, so it felt kind of like she was always naked because it never stated anything but it did better when Kai shifted to make things more clear.

Kai is our most grumpy dragon shifter yet, and Jane is another human female who is not putting up with it.
Kai is the Head protector and after his true mate rejected him years ago he never thought he would find anyone to share his life with so he became a straight laced protector who didn't show a fun or chatty side to him.
Jane is a reporter who is determined to shine a good light on shifters and the true light on the dragon hunters.
They meet 6 months prior and can't seem to forget about each other.
This book had a lot more in the way of grumpy sunshine, and I liked that a lot.
This book was very well written. The storyline is so well thought out. It not only is amazingly fun to read on its own, but it adds more depth to the series as a whole. The characters are well developed and very likeable. The dragons are so fun to listen to. To me the audio editions make this book, this series stand out from all the other dragon shifter books available! Very glad to have spent my time and money on this series!
I enjoyed finding out Kai's story. He turned out to be a sweetheart. I did not like Jane at all, not in the beginning and not at the end. She was way too pushy and demanding. She is as bad as Evie and doesn't deserve a sweetheart like Kai. We get to see Bram and Evie. Unfortunately, she has emasculated him. She acts as though she is clan leader. There was not as much action in this book as there was in the books two and three.
Reawakening the Dragon is book five in the series Stonefire British Dragons by author Jessie Donovan. I really enjoyed this read it was humorous with some serious moments. Oh definitely had that spice factor. Only issue was the ending - you there’s this issue and it could make or break this mating. So in the ending it was just anticlimactic- it felt brushed off- like it was no big deal. Maybe I’m wrong. I’ll let you all decide for yourselves. Enjoy!!
Reawakening the Dragon (Stonefire British Dragons Book 5) by Jessie Donovan. Kai, head of security for Stonefire had watched the reporter Jane when she interviewing members of his clan. His mate had refused him 11 years ago so Kai didn’t think he would get a second chance. Rescuing Jane and getting shot while doing it, Jane realised she was attracted to Kai and they slowly fell in love.
Not as exciting as the others in this series. The constant bickering and impolite impatience was cute at first but became annoying after time. The turn of events with dragon hunters was anticlimactic and none of the unanswered questions left at the end of the last encounter with them were resolved. I'm not giving up yet but I hope the next one is better.
The spark between Jane and Kai is genuine and emotional. Learning about each character’s backstory really hooked me to this book. As well as more about Stonefire and it’s members, especially Nikki Gray. Together they learn more about the nasty dragon hunters and how they plan to stop them. Can’t wait for book #6 of Jessie’s dragon-shifter universe. Great work Jessie.
One of the best in this series. At least amongst the ones i have read so far. I like how the author has toned down the sex talk and scenes. It gives us chance to know the characters. I hope this continues for the next book. And i just loved how the way tge author handled the not true mates part. But i am still waiting for Kai's dragon to tell us why he chose Jane as his second chance. 🤷

I’m obsessed with these books I’m reading them all for a second time! I love the characters and second time around is even better because I see the future development of other characters in these books. I recommend them as entertaining reads for adult readers who like fantasy, romance and steamy love scenes!!
Another fantastic, sizzlin Hot, alpha Dragon Paranormal Romance read! I loved loved loved! Jesse Donovan knows how to draw you in and you forget everything around you but this read! All I have to say is it's a must read series! Fantastic!!!!! ;)
Jane is a reporter for the BBC. She is asked to do a interview with the Dragon Shifters of Stonefire. She meets Kai. There’s an attraction they both feel. Read to see what happens.
He though he had lost his chance when his true mate ran off while he was at war ,but Kia,gets a second chance, can he grab it in time,Jane will do anything to help the shifter dragon of stonefire, even if it means her life.
Reawakening the Dragon if book 5 of Jessie Donovan's Stonefire British Dragons series. Kai and Jane's characters are so well fleshed out that they will quickly become favorites on the series.
I’m loving this series so much, I’ve read a book a day since I started. I like the strong women and the men who care for them, the drama and the love. Thoroughly recommend this series.
I am obsessed with Jessie Donovans dragon shifter books. They are all amazing and Kai's story was brilliant. I might even reread it, something i don't do often
