Raw Gums brings to bear the fruits that the evil have sown. Those who have stolen from the weak, from the sick, from the young, they are being met with justice.
He is overseeing this justice. And—understand this—he is not done.

In the South we don’t call it magic, because we’re Baptist.
Even though we don’t name it, it is here all the same—handed down in whispers like instructions for moonshine, squirreled away in the top of our elders’ closets in illicit shoeboxes. The story of Raw Gums was given to me in this with the passing of a magic man I never knew, and with the stories and spells of many I know very well.
Raw Gums is a story of the long-reaching fingers of devastation that come from the death of a beloved father, and the story of the matriarch that will go to great lengths to keep her family together.
