This was such a fun and entertaining guilty pleasure read for me! I love time travel romances and Vikings so put the two together and it’s a sure winner for me. It was such a quick read, it felt like I had just started and before I knew it I was already done. My only minor complaint is that I didn’t connect with any of the characters, they were quite flat and one dimensional.
I was given a beta version of this story for an honest review.
I am such a fan of all of the MacLomain books and I enjoyed the slightly naughty King when he was whispering to Tora. When I found out that we were going to be spending more time with him I was so excited, and he surely didn't disappoint.
Sky always takes the reader on a wild ride right along with the characters in her books. I never quite know where she's going and she's always got some sneaky trick up her sleeve and in this series that's Megan's best friend Sean. Who is he? Is he just a nice guy she met and became close to? Or is he so much more?
Megan is another strong female character like all of the women who travel through time in Sky's world and she needs to be because Naor is a handful for sure. Strong and proud, he cares for his people and yet his heart is so pure and he loves with all his soul. I was so happy to take this journey with them.
Valan is back....he was such a nasty little slime ball in Plight of the Highlander and just like I wondered how Sky was going to make me like Colin McLeod when I started reading the Next Generation series, I wondered how he was going to redeem himself, in Valan's case though it wasn't the reader he had to prove himself to but Mylea's father the King.
I can't wait until Raknar's book comes out and we get to spend more time in the land of the Vikings.

My goodness, is it just me, or is that cover irresistible?
First the good, how fun to read a novel set in 9th century Scandinavia! And for those who like a lot of heat, this book is packing. The characters are likeable, almost too much so, it's hard to imagine Vikings being that sensitive.
Now for the bad. Evidently, this series is a follow-up to another series by the same author. Not realizing that, and being unfairly enticed by that cover..., I read this without reading the other series first.
Major spoiler alert!
I also could not care less about the Scottish characters from the other series, not present in this book, but continually talked about. It was like hearing someone go on and on about their distant relatives.
But the thing that bothered me most was the ending. Don't get me wrong, I love whimsy, but there is a deus ex machina in the final battle that is completely nonsensical. I wish the author had put a little more thought into that part.
All that said, I did enjoy the novel, but I will not be reading the remainder of the series.
The heat level in this one is hot, hot, hot, too much detail for my tastes, and there are just a couple of bad words.
The hero in this story is fabulous: strong, possessive, honorable, loving, sensitive, and caring. I loved everything about him. Even the heroine was likable. She was also very reasonable and didn't do stupid things, which always makes me happy. Finally, the cast of secondary characters was wonderful. I'm very interested in reading about the Viking Kings two brothers finding love with Megan's two sisters.
What kept this from being a five star book for me was the fact that, despite how cool the storyline was, I struggled sometimes to follow what was going on with the seers and everything that brought these two characters together over time. There was just too much going on for me to keep it all straight in my head. Although I never thought I'd say this, one or two of the sex scenes were a little over the top for me as well. My own books have a lot of sex, but that first scene seemed to go on forever...and ever...and ever.
All in all this was a very enjoyable read and I'm glad I gave it a chance.
I was excited to read this. About 25% onto the story, I have the nagging feeling that there's too much back story of some other characters for this to be the first book of this series. So I checked again and it really is the first book of this series. BUT it turns out that this is technically a spin off series of about 2 earlier series. *kill me now...*
The info dump is too much at some point and since I haven't met this people, I don't care about them.
These being a story about Vikings, I failed to anticipate the addition of Norse mythology on it. It's a good thing I have a slight knowledge on it as I wasn't that lost on the story.
I can say that I'm not too fond of Vikings customs and traditions. Vikings, Norse gods, magic and some Scottish stuff made the story chaotic for me.
It was still good. But it was really confusing. I should have double checked... T_T
I could not wait to read this book. The MacLomains are a wonderful series, and Sky Purington writes so well. Her books are a very enjoyable edge of your seat romantic roller coaster ride. Very well worth reading!!
Originally read and review given off of the box set.
Well done, truly some of the best romances I've read in years. Their stories ripped my heart to shreds and put it back together again. A world well written and well plotted.
Furious, intense and all encompassing, love so deep you feel it in your soul. What wouldn't you do to protect the ones you love. Think beyond your immediate family. Think generations. Delicate intricacies of the fabric of life that we weave. The true value of each person that comes into your life and how we interact with them. The complexity of those interactions and how they determine the decisions that we make. Each story draws you in with the differences and how you make your choices.
There is so much that happens within the storyline for each character you truly have to pay attention to what's going on. It is so creative the way the author was able to go back and forth between the different characters between timelines, being able to connect the dots. When going between books there is no gap, you don't even feel that you left the story it's just a continuation. Truly well done.
Things have been strange in Megan's life since she found the box with etched stones in it. Name being said upon the wind, giant blackbirds perched on her deck railing. Life does change dramatically, whilst Megan takes the changes in stride, life as she knew it would never be the same. This is a thrilling introduction to this series, and if you have read any of the MacLomain Series, you will see the overlap in the Scottish and Viking stories. I look forward to reading the next episode and am thankful that I took up the unlimited offer by Amazon.com and Amazon.com.au, so I can read this complete sequence of stories.
What a surprise! I didn’t expect much, it was my first book by this author but the story was mesmerizing. Who would have thought I would have read, let alone enjoyed a book with this level of the supernatural? Really, dragon shifters?! But enjoy it I did. The characters were three dimensional, the historical setting well cast and the pace was just right. For those who are sensitive about too descriptive sex, I wouldn’t recommend this book. For the rest of us, the author has some chops writing the bedroom scenes! Onto the next in the series!
An avid reader of fantasy with the punch of an excellent love story, this gave me chills. Breathtaking, moving, intense and overwhelming... I will pick this up and read it over and over again. This needs to be on my bookcase, as well as on my reader.
The story puts you right there... experiencing what the characters do, FEELING what the characters do... I want it all. Every last morsel of these characters and their stories needs to be mine. Thank you for the depths of creativity found here!
Imaginative and evocative, this book leads you on a magical adventure to find strength and love. A grand story who takes the main character and her dog thru a wonderful and perilous journey. A most excellent read to enjoy.
Omg!!!! If you haven't read Sky's series of sexy Highlander, beyond hot Vikings ( who are related to said sexy Highlanders) you are sadly missing out! So much intrigue. Descriptive writing. And love stories. You NEED to read these books! Enjoy. I know you will. 💜
Descriptions of the ships and life style were interesting and created a well rounded life style for me. I certainly had to go look at all the styles of sailing craft in that time frame , I learned a lot thanks
I loved this book!! As someone else mentioned in a review. I think I need to start with the series before these books. I was already reading this when I seen it. I think a lot more things would make sense.
Despite not reading the previous series I grasped this book well enough.
I enjoyed the mix of Vikings and supernatural that blended well together despite my orignal thoughts, I would have loved to read about the dragons more though.
Boring audiobook - suffered through it just to check a box for M Judson Reading Challenge for Sept (Vikings) - skip it - the audiobook was AI virtual voice too which didn’t help.

I really liked this story,i did read the series out of order and i will probably go back to get the full back story. Even though i missed some books out it didn't detract from the story. I loved the characters the three brothers were very entertaining. I have absolutely no idea if this is historically accurate and i don't mind if it's not,it was a lovely read and i will definitely be reading the next one looking forward to Veronica 's story.
4 1/2 amazing stars! This book truly has it all mythology, romance, time travel, fantasy and intrigue. A sexy Viking king, a strong modern day women afraid to love again, amazing brothers, sisters and friends with an adorable protector named Guardian aka wolfy girl. This is one hell of a story with great characters, great secondary characters that you won't want to stop reading. When you are forced to actually work instead of immerse yourself in this book, through out your day you'll think about these characters, their story and wish you didn't have to work so all you could do is loose yourself in this Amazing beautiful story set mainly in ninth century Scandinavia. 5 stars if at the end the HEA would have shown more about said HEA not just THE END. No epilogue either. May be the next book will pick up where this one left off with a new couple but with more info on our power couple the Viking king and his soul mate Megan. Fingers crossed, recommend read!
I've never read anything from this author before so her writing style is new to me, and I can say it was much to be desired. She just didn't flow well with the language she was trying to portray as a way a viking brood would speak. It just didn't jive well!
I did love the story line of the time traveling back to another era and age. Our heroine Megean found her one true love going back to the year 877 A. D. where she meets up with our Viking King Naor.
Even thou I didn't like the author writing style I will suffer through the next book of this series, because I really did enjoy the story line.
Not having read any of the previous novels in the series, or, indeed by this author, I charged into the premise full tilt, enjoying Megan's adventure with her Viking King. Imagine my surprise when I started tripping over numerous grammatical errors...verb agreement, subject-object issues...the rules most of us learned in elementary school! How slip shod the editing from a professional publication! I am much less interested in continuing the series. Too bad.
The concept was there for the most part and quite a few scenes were really well written. Unfortunately, it seems that an entirely different series of the Scottish variety needed to be read prior to this book for a huge potion of this story to make sense. The previous series is constantly referenced. Between that, some editing errors, and a handful of highly unrealistic reactions to certain events I couldn't rate this any higher.
The well written time travel with a background in Nordic mythology, you will love this story that spans the distance of time. I have always loved Greek mythology, as a Scandinavian I have always wanted to read Norse myths. Now I will take the time to read more and enjoy more of this series also. Great way to spend a relaxing day during the holidays.
A wonderfully written, adventurous romantic love story. Ninth century sexy Vikings, what could be better than that. A Dragon King along with his two Dragon brothers forced to suppress their dragon half due to an oath. This tale has developed strong characters not easily forgotten. Loved it! Great time travel book and a good start to this series. Highly recommend.
Riveting, lustful, entertaining continuation of theMacLomains saga! I enjoyed all of the romances and eagerly awaiting the next book! To coin a phrase, enter the dragon!
