Based on thirty years of observation, the author demonstrates that wolves provide a closer model of human behavior than primates within such areas as stress-related disorders, aggression, and anger
R.D. Lawrence was a Canadian naturalist and wildlife author. Born aboard ship in the Bay of Biscay off the coast of Spain on September 12, 1921, he moved to Canada in 1954. RD Lawrence died of Alzheimer's on November 27, 2003 in Haliburton County, Ontario, Canada.
RD Lawrence's many books are published in 26 countries and 15 languages and take us to animal habitats far from humans; to the boreal forests of North America alive with puma, beaver, bear, timber wolves and eagles, to the frigid waters of the Pacific Northwest where orcas thrive, and to the sharks of the Red Sea.
🐺 RD Lawrence was a naturalist who produced excellent books about wildlife, forests, lakes, and streams, and the amazing wilderness regions of Canada and the US. His word craft is rich and intriguing. His book on wolves is another great exploration to go alongside superb wolf works like Never Cry Wolf. If you like reading about nature and wildlife you need to treat yourself and get into his writings. You’ll be amply rewarded.
Tää on jotain niin kummallista. Mun salaisissa unissa on missio kääntää ja julkasta tän herra R.D. Lawrencen tuotanto alusta loppuun. Käytännön seikat niinku käännösoikeudet tai myyntitulot tai se että en ees pidä kirjottamisesta ei liity noihin uniin mitenkään.
This book not only contained plenty of factual information on wolves, it described the author's personal experiences with these fascinating creatures and his opinions, many of which I share. It talked about the relations between wolves and other species, including humans, which surprisingly have many similarities. This book is inspiring, and enjoyable for anyone interesting in animals or biology, or in human behavior. It is not one of those stuffy, boring books that are impossible to read, full of scientific terms, but a book of emotion and knowledge. I learned that behaviors characteristic in most wolves are not necessarily true in others of the species. I learned in great depth of the communications between wolves and humans. I learned of the incomprehensible abilities of the wolves' senses, ones that we humans cannot begin to understand. I highly recommend this book.
I was captivated in the beginning of this book, In Praise of Wolves, because even though I have wolves in my area I know nothing about them. I loved reading R. D. Lawrence’s stories about interactions with wolves and the things he’s learned about their social behavior. It didn’t take long before I found myself not trusting Lawrence’s claims, though, so I put it down for a long time. Then when I was going to pass the book on to someone else, I decided to finish reading it first. So that was months later, fresh start (continuing where I left off near the end of the book) but again I was getting a bit annoyed. He seemed quick to state as fact something that didn’t sound factual to me. I liked the wolf content. I liked the straightforward writing style. I didn’t like the author’s ego ever-present in the book. I have a couple other books by him on my shelf though and I’ll still open them up someday and try them out.
Este libro es magnífico. Muy bien relatado y una historia maravillosa. Lo leí hace más de 10 años pero me gustó muchísimo. En especial lo recomiendo para aquellos que tienen un interés especial por los animales.
