В тази книга ненадминатият майстор на словото Решат Нури се връща към годините си, свързани с любовта към театъра.
Небивала зимна виелица. Скована от студ и вледеняващ вятър анадолска степ. Малка гара с блокиран от снежните преспи претъпкан влак... И един топъл салон, приютил за през нощта премръзналите в купетата хора. Така започва историята на дузината герои, които точно тогава откриват енергията на една-единствена, но обвързваща ги с невероятна сила прилика – съкровената, дълбоко стаявана в душите им любов към театъра. Точно в тази нощ най-неочаквано те решават да променят житейския си път и да основат театрална трупа, посвещавайки се изцяло на нея.
С материалната и духовна подкрепа на Сервет бей, наследник на богат турски паша, започва всеотдайна работа. Подбор на репертоар от европейски и турски пиеси, изработка на декори и костюми, денонощни репетиции. Малката трупа от ентусиасти се разраства и тръгва на турне из целия Анадол. Успехите не закъсняват, а между тях са моментите на откраднато щастие, любов и страдание.
Когато пише романа, Решат Нури е знаел, че краят му наближава. Но е искал да остави на поколенията преживяното по време на тогавашните исторически събития, разтърсили Турция – революцията от 1908 г., краят на султанската власт и обявяването на Турция за република, промените в мисленето на обществото. На фона на тези събития в романа се полагат основите на съвременния турски театър.
Коварната болест не оставя време на писателя да довърши всичко. Живял и творил като жрец на духовността в Истанбул, в необятната Анадола, във Франция, като представител на ЮНЕСКО, в края на земния си път Решат Нури (1889–1956) намира сили и за тази книга – последното негово убежище. И ни предава посланието си – да следваме мечтите си въпреки всичко.

His novel, Çalıkuşu ("The Wren", 1922) is about the destiny of a young Turkish female teacher in Anatolia; the movie was filmed on this book in 1966, and remade as TV series in 1986. His narrative has a detailed and precise style, with a realistic tone. His other significant novels include Yeşil Gece ("Green Night") and Yaprak Dökümü ("The Fall Of Leaves")
Biography
His father was a major in the army. Reşat Nuri attended primary school in Çanakkale, the Çanakkale Secondary School and the İzmir School of Freres. He graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature in 1912. He worked as a teacher and administrator at high schools in Bursa and Istanbul, then as an inspector at the Ministry of National Education (1931). He served as the deputy of Çanakkale between 1933 and 1943 in the Turkish Parliament, the chief inspector at the Ministry of National Education (1947), and a cultural attaché to Paris (1950), when he was also the Turkish representative to UNESCO.
After his retirement, he served at the literary board of the Istanbul Municipal Theatres. He died in London, where he had gone to be treated for his lung cancer. He is buried at the Karacaahmet Cemetery in İstanbul.

Resat Nuri'nin bu yarim kalmis, taslak gibi duran eserinin yayinlanmasi bence, hayati boyunca gosterdigi yetenegine ve emegine karsilik buyuk bir hata. Okurlarin onu bu eseriyle hatirlamasi veya onunla ilk bu eseriyle tanismasi beni urpertti ve uzdu dogrusu.

Yeni kurulmus Turkiye Cumhuriyeti , uzak vatan topraklari ve tiyatro yapmaya calisan insanla, ayakta kalma mucadelesi ve idealler pesinde hayatlar. Okumasi keyifliydi ama arada bir dine , tarikatlara , seyhlere vurmayide ihmal etmiyor.

I picked this book because of two reasons- first Reşat Nuri is well known master of the drama and overall i had good expirience with the turkish literature and second i stumbled across a very interesting and noble campaign "read a book to a blind person" so i decided to give it a try.Which turns to be challeging if you are not used to read aloud ( last book i readed aloud was harry potter back in school) and record yourself doing that. For me this book was the perfect choice , because its relatively short book with a lot of long sentences and dramatic dialogs so i had to put an effort to slow down my speach and try to express emotions at the same time.
I wont be very critical about this book its his last book founded after his death so its unfinished and not edited. The general idea is nice and the writhing style is very good ,but sometimes it gets over dramatic. I will give an example of what i mean the characters cry a lot in this book .You may say "Well , its a drama" but they start crying out og the blue sometimes-Why are all crying when the police search the ship for the stolen money since none of them did it? Another thing which is annoying is the pace of the story-some episodes can be shorter or cutted completely but again it wasnt edited.
Ps - I was surprised to find about the documents some of the women are carrying to be "unpure".Can somebody please tell me if they mean the woman was caught californicating or working as a prostitute?
