This book was an eye opener to those of us who haven’t read about the fate of the Jewish people in a long time..the book had sad parts, happy parts and thought provoking areas. A testament to strong women and preserverance. All Jodi’s book characters are well defined and you don’t want story to end

Well written, I enjoyed how she wrote it from many prospectives. Warning: tough story to read do to graphic descriptions of Nazis and horrors of concentration camps.

MUCH better story than anticipated, although there were definitely difficult parts to read with the nazi subject matter and such. But was happy that I didn’t give up and finished.

It took me quite awhile to get into this book. I'm not exactly sure why. But once I got into Minka's story - HER story, not her created story, I was hooked. Something about having lived through the horror of the Holocaust - her story was realistic. Thinking back, I guess I can understand how a person who was born to write, could not possibly write the TRUE events of her months in captivity. She had to create another story. But personally, I just could not get into that part of the book.
Yes, the author is delving into the narrowness of good vs evil. We are all created with a bent toward evil. "All we like sheep have gone astray" said the prophet Isaiah. The ending with the twist was quite a surprise and that was good.
I do recommend this book to those who want to understand some more of how evil humanity can be to another and yet how some did survive their evil live long.
