This second book of the Chicory Inn Series was as solid as the first. This series is about how life doesn't always turn out exactly as we dreamed or imagined. What I love about Jesse and Corinne is that they go through the tough season together. A chord of three strands is not easily broken.

A huge thank you to author Tamera Alexander for a complimentary copy of this novel.

This is another good novel from Raney about relationships. She gives us insight into what must be every man's nightmare, being accused of sexual harassment. Raney shows the importance of communication in marriage as well as openness and honesty. She also does a good job of reminding readers that it is the hard times that do make us better and, in the end, are really profitable times. I appreciated the issue of God's leading as covered within the story. There may be times when we have thought of a change in career, for example, but have delayed in making the choice. God might bring along a situation to force us into going the way He desires.
I appreciated the character development, especially the children. It was an enjoyable novel to read with good insights into marriage and God's leading.

I really enjoyed this story. Jesse and Corinne struggle with a lifestyle that affords them material luxuries, but it is beginning to come at a cost of their personal happiness. I loved that when they were at odds with each other, they worked out their issues rather than walking away from each other. Full review at my website.

Two Roads Home by Deborah Raney is book two in the Chicory Inn series and I was blessed to receive a copy. As with book one, it was a glorious faith filled family novel. It can be read as a stand-alone, but for me it was wonderful to continue to follow Audrey and Grant and their extended family.
Two Roads Home has its focus on Corinne and Jesse and their marriage and young family. The novel shows how important it is to have truth and transparency within a marriage, so that actions do not get misconstrued. Prayer is of vital importance too - pray in the good times, and pray even harder in the trying times. Always keep your eyes on God, so that you never lose sight of what is really important.
Two Roads Home stresses the importance of having the correct priorities. Corrine and Jesse have the perfect large family house, of which Corinne in particular is very proud of. Events happen in the novel, and Corinne struggles in her head to hold on to her beautiful house, which equates success to her. Towards the end of the novel, a chance and unexpected encounter causes Corinne to re-evaluate her idea of successful. In God's eyes possessions mean nothing. It is people that God cares about. It is having a loving family unit with God at the centre. Where people live is unimportant compared with just being together.
The novel presents the theme of dreams. We all have our own particular dreams. Sometimes we are blessed to be able to live our dream. And sometimes we will be asked to lay aside our dream, so that others may pick up theirs. God is a good God, and in Him all things work together for good, even what others may have meant as harm.
Two Roads Home also shows the importance of the bond of sisterhood. Corinne has two sisters, Danae and Landyn, and it is to each other that the sisters turn. They can laugh together and they can cry together. The novel reminded me of the saying that 'a cord of three strands is not easily broken'. Corrine also has three young daughters, and it was totally delightful to witness their interactions with the adults. As the reader, my hope was that these three young sisters will grow up with the same loving bond between them...yes, I know it's only a novel, but it's very 'real' in my head!
The novel also shows the importance of family time. Grant and Audrey, whilst being busy running the inn, always set aside Tuesday nights as a time when the extended family gets together and shares a meal and fun. Grant and Audrey, whilst by no means perfect, are always there for their children, no matter how old they are. There were some very light hearted moments in the novel too, which had me chuckling out loud. There is the saying 'never work with animals or children', however in the context of the book, they are delightful, as Huck, the family dog continued to cause moments of chaos and hilarity.
God is very much a character within the novel, as He is included in the day to day lives of everyone. The family has its focus firmly on Him. He gives them peace and grace when needed, and opens their eyes to see through His eyes in the storm.
Deborah Raney has her focus very much on people in this series. In the first two novels, she has honed in on two very different Christian marriages. She shows that life is not all plain sailing just because you are a Christian. Christians have problems and life hit them too. It is important in life's storms to keep your eyes on the One who can calm the storm. Jesus, family and church are all of vital importance in this journey called life.
I am really enjoying this Chicory Inn series, and I urge you to immerse yourself in the novels. They are heart warming, faith filled, family orientated and God focused...and I can't wait for book number three!

Deborah Raney's Chicory Inn series is excellent - well written with lots of family drama that kept me eagerly turning the pages. Women's fiction is one of my favorite genres and I wish there was more of it in the CBA. This series reminds me of the family saga format that I have always loved - the exception being that instead of following a family through several generations, the stories are grounded by the parents, Grant and Audrey Whitman, and each sibling gets their own story.

Two Roads Home, book #2 in the series, returns us to the Whitman family that we met in Home to Chicory Lane, and focuses on the oldest daughter, Corinne, as she and Jesse deal with their first real crisis. With themes of greed, lust, jealousy, and lack of total communication within marriage, this story mimics real life, but in an honest and uplifting way. Even Audrey, often caught between the pressures of running an inn and the demands of her children, isn't immune from conflict . . . "She hated how often she felt torn between her new career and her family - most of whom were supposed to be grown and independent, but apparently some of them had yet to get the memo."

Corinne and Jesse live in a beautiful house and have three precious girls, giving the outward impression that they have it all - but does anyone ever really "have it all"? Jesse has the outgoing qualities that are an asset in sales, yet he feels trapped in his job and craves a major career change, one which will require a lot of lifestyle sacrifices from his family. Corinne is devoted to Jesse and her girls and especially loves being the stay-at-home mom that his income affords. I was frustrated with Corinne for a large part of the book, until I stopped to wonder if there were times in life where I hadn't been all that different.

This is one of those novels where you won't find a lot of overt spiritual references, yet I felt God's presence throughout the story. Sacrifices are made, battle wounds result in greater strength as a couple, and unfulfilled dreams lead to a seeking of what God's dream or will might really be. Love and commitment to family is also a major theme and I think it would be a blast to be present one Tuesday night when the whole Whitman clan gathers for a meal in their charming Chicory Inn.

Two Roads Home comes to a satisfying conclusion, but it's obvious there is a lot more to come. I greatly enjoyed this story and the only thing I wanted more of was greater character depth for Jesse and Corinne. I look forward to book #3, Another Way Home, which releases in October 2015. Based on my enjoyment factor, 5 stars. Recommended.

Thank you to Litfuse Publicity for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

How much do you trust your husband? How far will you go to have the comfortable, flashy lifestyle of which you’ve dreamed – and when is it time to trade in the style to follow God’s plan? These are the questions that form the basis of Two Roads Home.

Corinne and Jesse aren’t purposely following the world, but they’re not so sure that all is right in their own personal part of it. The restlessness that plagues them seems minor when compared with the big problems that other people have, but they seem determined to grow. This angle was my favorite part of this story. It’s difficult for us to look outside of our own circumstance, and both Corinne and Jesse kept blinders on, even with each other. Raney did an excellent job of detailing Corinne’s feelings in a realistic way, and I imagine that Jesse’s confusion is just as vivid. Many ministries, blogs, and websites exist to help stay-at-home moms figure out how to deal with these feelings, and it’s always refreshing to see your frustration confirmed in print.

I appreciate Jesse’s honesty and the revelations he had when he could finally open up with himself. He and Corinne were both determined, despite their recent tension, to follow their problems through to the end, and I appreciate that about this book. Raney never really suggested divorce as a viable option, instead showing their stress and stubbornness to work everything out.

On the flip side, Raney wrote in some parenting crises with a somewhat unrealistic reaction. I can’t imagine that not increasing any marital tension already in existence, and I think that this avenue could have been explored more – especially since trauma with children is a leading cause of divorce.

{Spoiler Alert}

Raney ramps up the suspense in Jesse’s stressful work situation throughout the book. While it ultimately comes to somewhat of a personal resolution, the situation is never completely resolved. The reader never learns the ultimate legal end to the problem, nor how it affects the children, the family, or the perpetrator. I would definitely prefer a more complete resolution – but part of this cliffhanger ending set up the next book well.

{Spoiler Over}

All in all, I enjoyed this second book in the Chicory Inn series much more than the first. The characters are more developed, and I could relate to their problems in a much more realistic way. I’m quite interested in finding out what happens next!

Two Roads Home is the second book in Deborah Raney's Chicory Inn Series and I really enjoyed it! I had the honor of reading and reviewing, Home to Chicory Lane, the first book in this series and was excited to have another opportunity to read and review this one! I am a big fan of Deborah Raney's writing so I am always on the lookout for her latest books. In Book Two the focus is on Corinne and Jesse Pennington, the Whitman's oldest daughter and her husband. Jesse and Corinne live a comfortable life with their three girls but Jesse is feeling incomplete, he is not doing what he wants to do, and that is go back to school to become a teacher. Corinne is also feeling this incomplete feeling and feels Jesse's, but neither one has spoken to the other about these feelings. They find themselves in the middle of a life storm when a co worker makes advances toward Jesse during a business trip. When Jesse rebukes the advances, he finds himself being accused of harassment by this co worker. As this storm is brewing Jesse and Corinne are feeling led to find other dreams.

I really enjoyed Two Roads Home. I found myself being able to relate to this couple in many ways. Jesse and Corinne are the "old married couple" who everyone assumes has everything in life together, settled but they aren't. Both of them are restless and looking for something else for their family. Deborah Raney writes with authority about Cape Girardeau, Mo, being a Stay at home Mom, running an inn inside a family home, marriage, and following God's leading. I found myself unable to put this book down once I started it, from start to finish this book took many twists and turns and was definitely not what I expected, which I love!! I really enjoy the cast of characters in the Whitman Family especially Grant and Audrey Whitman. They are such pillars for their family and puts their faith in God's plan. They are devoted to their family and their inn. I love the interactions between them. As I stated, in this book the focus is The Pennington Family but fear not, the characters from book one are also back. I loved reading Jesse and Corinne's story while being able to keep up with the rest of the Whitman Family. I highly recommend this book and this series to anyone who enjoys Christian Fiction, you will not be disappointed. I am excited to read the next book in the series, Another Way Home! I give this book 5 STARS

Two Roads Home is the second Chicory Inn Novel by Deborah Raney. The first, Home to Chicory Lane, centered on Chase & Landyn (Whitman) Spencer along with the Whitman clan. Two Roads Home focuses on Landyn's older sister, Corinne, and her family. Fans of Chicory Inn will be glad to discover that the rest of the Whitman family is still very much involved in the story. I was so happy to dive into this book and catch up with the characters! The Chicory Inn is idyllic, and Raney's description of Corinne's house made me wish I could move right in! One of my favorite things about this book is the cover. Simply gorgeous, inviting, and relaxing. I love the continuity between the first book and this one in terms of cover art. However, this laid back picture doesn't completely represent the tension hidden inside the novel. I was completely surprised when the book took a suspenseful turn. I was enjoying the story very much, but the added intensity made it SO much better! There's a definite feeling of unease for much of the story. Everything isn't necessarily resolved by the end, but it's tied up well enough. This is a story about marriage, purpose, and faith. I'm looking forward to the next title in the series and luckily a teaser chapter is included at the end of Two Roads Home. Another Way Home will allow a peek into the lives of Danae (Whitman) Brooks & her husband, Dallas. It's not too late to visit Chicory Inn. Pick up the first two books right away as the next releases in a few months! Highly recommended to fans of Inspirational Fiction, Family Fiction, and books featuring an inn!

Deb’s Dozen: False accusations spur change in family life—long-held dreams come to fruition.

Two Roads Home, the second book in Deb Raney’s Chicory Inn novels, focuses on Grant and Audrey Whitmire’s daughter Corinne and her husband, Jesse Pennington. Jesse has a friendly, outgoing personality that serves him well and makes him popular with his clients. His sales ability has earned them a handsome living and a comfortable lifestyle.

Neither of them is happy, though, and for some of the same reasons: too many business trips and lack of the closeness they used to have. Then a coworker threatens to file a harassment suit which disrupts their marriage and puts their three daughters at risk.

At the same time, Grant and Audrey are finding that running a bed and breakfast is more work than they thought they’d have—and they’re getting older too. They’re not booked with the kind of clients they’d like and the bookings are not steady. When they do have guests, they always seem to interfere with the Tuesday night family dinners.

God is working in all their hearts and they come to some hard decisions. Will the coworker triumph and destroy their marriage? Will their daughters recover from a scary happening? Read Two Roads Home to find out.

Although I loved the writing and the characters are very real, I found myself depressed at many times while reading. This is not a good times book, but the story does mimic real life—perhaps why the depression. The takeaway I had is that when I trust God with my whole life I have peace. When I don’t, chaos and unhappiness follows. Having said all that, you’ll still want to read Corinne and Jesse’s story to see how they resolve all the issues. Four stars.

Deb Raney has won numerous awards including the RITA, National Readers Choice Award, the HOLT Medallion, and the Carol Award. She has finaled in the Christ Awards twice. Find out more about Deborah on her website, Deborah Raney

Minor-but-nagging setbacks continue to sour Grant and Audrey Whitman's initiation into the world of inn keeping, but larger challenges brew when an innocent flirtation leads to big trouble for the Whitmans son-in-law, Jesse. Jesse Pennington's friendly, outgoing personality has always served him well, especially in a career that has earned him and his wife Corinne a very comfortable lifestyle. But Corinne and Jesse are both restless and for similar reasons, if only they could share those with each other. Instead, too many business trips and trumped-up charges of harassment from a disgruntled coworker threaten their marriage and possibly put their three precious daughters at risk. With their life in disarray, God is tugging at their hearts to pursue other dreams. Can Corinne and Jesse pick up the pieces of what was once a wonderful life before it all crumbles beneath them?

--My thoughts. We always think peoples' lives are perfect when you are looking from the outside in. But it isn't always what you think. Marriage is hard. Life is hard. Corrinne could be any one of us. This story is so amazing, I just love the way Raney writes. Michaela is a wife's worst nightmare. I totally understood when she was checking his phone. That desperation -- it's real folks.. Sometimes you wonder where God is, sometimes the teacher is silent during the test.

You will probably want to read Home to Chicory Lane first though, to get a good background, but this book does stand alone. Happy reading!

Do I have an issue with this book? YES, I ran the battery in my kindle completely out as I simply could not put this book away! Corinne and Jesse's problem with Michaela, a female coworker of Jesse's, drew me in immediately. I love a good bit of psychological suspense and when Michaela started acting like the sick woman in Fatal Attraction, my antennae sprouted and I was hooked!
I love it when an author manages to hook me from the very first paragraph and Deborah Raney definitely did exactly that with me. The characters are simply so real and believable that I could easily imagine being friends with any and all of them with the possible exception of Michaela. Who doesn't love when there is a rotten female antagonist ? She was a great "bad guy" in this story. I wanted her to leave Corinne and Jesse and their precious girls alone! As I finished the book, I was already hoping for a sequel to read and I was teased a bit with an excerpt of the next book in the series. I did not know this was a series and did not read the first book in series, but that certainly did not stop my interest. I do want to go back and read the first book though.
I rated this book 5 stars and just love the spine-chilling tingles it gave me!

The second book of Deborah Raney’s Chicory Inn series, Two Roads Home tells another Whitman-family-focused story just as delightful as Home to Chicory Inn. This one focuses on the eldest Whitman daughter, Corinne Pennington, and her husband, Jesse, as they learned to trust God with their dreams. Together they face a series of unexpected challenges, and though at times their communication (or lack thereof) frustrated me, the relationship seems depicted realistically through it all. I thoroughly enjoyed this second Chicory Inn novel, recommend it to fans of contemporary family fiction, and now eagerly look forward to reading the third one.

This was another lovely book in the Chicory Inn Series and I was so pleased to catch up with the family and follow another couple's story.

Outwardly, Corrine and Jesse have it all. They live in a beautiful house and have three lovely girls. But in order to keep up their lifestyle Jesse spends a lot of time travelling. When a female member of staff rings Corrine to let her know that he is delayed on the homeward journey - a few alarm bells start to ring. Are they both as happy as they should be, should she be worrying about Jesse being away so much?

The book handles marital disharmony issues, sibling jealousies and their parents still adjusting to opening their house as an Inn.

Corrine and Jesse have a disturbing issue to deal with which will mean taking a hard look at how they lives their lives and what they both really want from their lives. Will they pull together to sort everything- or will this pull them apart?

I am really looking forward to finding the next book in the series already!

Many thanks to Abingdon Press and Net Galley for a copy of this book.

A feeling of happiness and great satisfaction was mine, after finishing Two Roads Home. This story drew me in to the nitty-gritty of a family held hostage by unseen, but real sources of evil in our modern society—jealousy, greed, and lust. Yet, I was charmed by the love and bonds of family and individual struggles to do the right thing—to take the high road.

I think women of all ages will be able to identify with the characters—both primary and secondary. Issues of finance, unfaithfulness, parenting, dashed hopes, marriage conflicts, and starting over are just a few the reader will encounter. This is a fast moving, but well developed story.

I recommend Two Roads Home to everyone who enjoys contemporary fiction.

Wow! I really didn't know what to expect when I started this book, but I loved it. This is an amazing story of finding yourself, but also finding your way back to a happy marriage. I think anyone who is married can probably relate to those times when you aren't so close to your spouse. This book shows that redemption is possible, and sometimes it's the people you have in your life, rather than things, that make everything complete.

I would have given this book 5 stars - I love the Chicory Inn books I've read so far; however, I was very disappointed the way the book ended. You think there's still more story - then boom, it's the end of the book. Kinda shocked & disappointed with the ending. But I will still read the next two books in this series. Hopefully the endings will be better!

This is the second book in the series, and I liked it much better than the first one. I couldn't put it down, and I can't say the same for the first one. I liked the suspense that was involved with Jesse's stalker, to be honest. It made the story more of a page turner. Yet it also seemed like something that could actually happen instead of the over the top storylines Hollywood churns out about stalkers. My only critique is that the ending felt abrupt. It's not that everything has to be tied up neatly at the end, but there were major plot points left hanging and a new one brought up in the final chapter. Maybe they get addressed in book three?

I also have to confess that Corinne drove me crazy sometimes. That isn't a critique of the writing however. I think it's a sign of a realistic and flawed character. However, I just kept rolling my eyes at how shallow and materialistic Corinne seemed. "First world problems" for sure with her! At least she does grow in that area by the end of the book. I also constantly rolled my eyes when they made it seem like a woman can't stay home unless her husband makes a ton of money. This is a misconception I am so sick of! My husband is a pastor, and I stay at home. (An associate pastor at a small church, not a rich mega church pastor!) He makes less than a public school teacher, so it made no sense to me that Corinne would have to go back to work if her husband pursued his dream job. Again, it's all in what your priorities are. If you want to have a ton of material things and still stay home, then yeah, but . . . anyways, I'll get off my soap box. That was just my personal irritation at the character!

Overall, I loved the book and had trouble sometimes putting it aside so I could go to bed!

In my review of the first book of the series I commented that it was like a "slice of real life". This book is a slice of drama.

I will begin with the positive aspects of the book. As with the first novel, the themes of family, love, and God define this story. Every family member's life is entwined with the other family members'. They are part of each other's everday life, and the reader can see how much they value each other, misunderstandings and all. I also loved how the author gave us a glimpse of how Chase and Landyn's family life blossomed after the fist novel; it gives the series a continuity.

What I disliked was the unnecessary drama. Michaela's actions/behavior were too extreme to be believed. What was the point of "kidnapping" Sadie and Simone, stealing Simone's hair ribbon, and then mailing it back to the family? What was the point of going after Jesse? Someone as "alluring" as Michaela could surely find another man to latch on to without going to the trouble of filing an unjust sexual harassment complaint. Such actions could jeapordize her future not just Jesse's. I wanted a more believable explanation for what drove her other than she was simply delusional. I am very much looking forward to moving on and starting the next novel in the series.

Two Roads Home by Deborah Raney is the second in her Chicory Inn series (the first was Home to Chicory Lane, reviewed last year). The series focuses on the Whitman family: empty nesters Grant and Audrey, who have turned their home into a bed and breakfast, and their four grown children and their families.

This second book focuses on oldest daughter Corinne, though all of the family is in the book. Corinne is married to Jesse, who has a good, well-paying job which allows her to comfortably stay home with their three daughters in a nice, big house. Jesse is very good-looking and very outgoing, and they’ve had talks about how sometimes women see his interactions as flirtations when he hasn’t meant them that way.

But on a business trip with a female colleague, it finally happens. He hasn’t led her on or flirted intentionally, but she acts towards him in ways that make him feel uncomfortable. When he confronts her and tells her that he is not interested and he is happily married, she turns the tables on him and files a a complaint with their boss against him for sexual harassment.

As Jesse and Corrine deal with the implications of this, several odd things begin to happen that make them realize that more than just Jesse’s job is under threat.

Part of the book reads like a mystery, but the part I liked best was the realistic interactions between family members. Though they all love God, they have misunderstandings or occasionally rub each other the wrong way, like we all do. Audrey wants to be the “quintessential grandmother,” but she feels her children don’t understand that running the inn is the equivalent of a full-time job. Two of the sisters’ housing situations is changing, one moving up and one moving down, and there are very human feelings portrayed there. Sometimes the siblings are too sensitive, sometimes not sensitive enough. I felt that their trying to work through these things in the best way was genuinely portrayed.

All in all it was a good read, and I am looking forward to the next in the series.

I listened to this on audio. The narrator did a good job, and it was a quick listen. I enjoyed this second book in this series more than the first and was engaged throughout. I was eager to see how the sexual harassment charge against Jesse played out, but was a bit disappointed that thread wasn't really resolved in the story, especially with it being a big catalyst for these characters' decisions. Maybe book three will bring in more about that and tie it up.

Overall, I really liked this story, especially how the couple overcame difficulties together without a thought to parting ways. The book has a solid spiritual storyline and focuses on the importance of family, which is the main reason I love reading Christian Women's Fiction.

An OK book that did keep me interested to the end but not extremely engaging. In this second of the series, we mostly follow Corrine (the eldest daughter) and her family as they negotiate some very difficult times.

Pros of the book were the Christian elements (although mild), no sex and no profanity.

Corrine and Jessie are struggling in their relationship. Can a coworker ruin everything for their marriage. How can they overcome the obnoxious woman who is trying to steal Jessie from Corrine!? Jessie isn’t interested and tells her so. But she is a little crazy and doesn’t seem fm want to take no for an answer

Book #2 in the Chicory Inn series. I loved this book, it deals with something that happens a lot in the work place. I thought that Deborah Raney handled this story very well, when this happens to men and woman you always tend to believe the accuser, but remember sometimes there are two sides to the very same story.

I enjoyed the second book even more than the first book in the series. However, I listened to an audio version and I did not care for the narrator. She spoke in very subdued tones, almost a whisper. Since I listen to audiobooks while I’m working around the house, it made it very difficult to hear and understand her.

Though all of the Whitman family make an appearance in this book, the focus of the story is on the oldest daughter, Corinne and her husband Jesse Pennington. They face a crisis in their marriage that causes them to re-evaluate. Corrine must decide what is most important to her.

Second book in Series. This is Jesse and Corinne's story. Jesse is very outgoing and outgoing folks often are misunderstood. Such is the case with one of his female co workers. This will try his marriage and their three girls. Has adventure and evil intent.

Mooi geschreven! Dit boek onderscheidt zich van diverse andere christelijke romans, namelijk dat de personages ook feilbaar zijn en fouten maken. Het enige nadeel van dit boek vind ik dat het redelijk voorspelbaar is.

2nd book in this series. Continues with the same family but focuses on Jesse and Corrine. Issues with sexual harassment and stalking are dealt with. I’m enjoying this family and the faith focused story line.

I love the Whitman family! The family dynamics are engaging and realistic. I'm enjoying watching the ebb and flow of their relationships.
