fucking is thirsty work. it really is.

i mean—he was gorgeous, and so hot for me i could give him a boner by picking my nose.

so it was great. repeatedly.

but a man has other needs, y’know?

like electrolytes.

Some authors can take just a few words and put them together and end up with something like this.

Palm Springs commercial photography

You can read this juicy little gem right here. Be prepared to fall in love with a certain authors grandmother.

This little story had been on my TBR but I had been too lazy to go and hunt it down until my friend Susan reviewed it. Thank you Susan!

“the streets i used to walk by myself, keeping my head down and my eyes on the sidewalk in front of me… now, i walked them with him. with my head up.

and my eyes on him.”

I’m going to steal a line from my pal Vivian: This story was like the TARDIS - soooooooooooooo much bigger on the inside and it made me as happy as Bill Cosby with a new scrip for Quaaludes giant hoagie . . .

Palm Springs commercial photography

It made me as smiley as Drake when he had Nikki Minaj’s big ol’ breastesses pressed up against him . . .

Palm Springs commercial photography

And definitely NOT like how he felt when Madonna wrapped her creepy Gollum arms around him and shoved her 87 year old tongue down his throat . . .

It’s short, it’s charming, and best of all - IT’S FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! . . .

Palm Springs commercial photography

Shelby turned me on to this . . . after Susan turned her on to it (and like eleventy-three of my other friends have already read it too). Apparently the trolls are right – it truly is just one big circle jerk around here : )

Go follow the link right now and READ THIS STORY. Get sucked in by the gorgeous prose and laugh and then sigh a happy sigh.

This story feels fresh and personal and real.

It's just a moment, one night searching for food in a neighborhood that "was solidly dominican, which means not very gay at all—so long as you chose to ignore the tight clothes and pointy shoes and the obnoxiously vocal masculinity of any male under 60."

Because "fucking is thirsty work."

Also: Grandma @ #teamjoolz and a "deconstructed hotness burrito."

Do you see how I'm not using my own words? They're not necessary.

Irish Julienne Merza's writing came into mind when I read this:

"...You don't always have to tell people you love them. You just have to give them no reason to doubt it."

closets. is a personal and honest story about love being told but not actually said. And let's just leave it at that.

Bigger on the inside.

A charmingly funny expose on the limitlessness of love. Really, how stupid is it to have a line that says, "I only love you this much"? Pretty stupid. Love is boundless and here you remember why.

Pure and sublime. This remarkable piece of writing is but a glimpse into the life of the author, and yet the story spans eons as it touches upon those significant moments sparked by love, courage, and family dynamics that shape a lifetime.

I was entranced. With deftness and finesse, the author nimbly moves the reader from gentle laughter and loving sighs, to tightness of chest and dabbing at eyes. Raw. Real. Story told straight from the heart. And into my heart it nestled. Thank you to the author for sharing.

There will be eleventy-five and one reviews of this, so I'll keep it brief. ;)

It's simple and from the heart.
It's hurt, humor, hope, young love...a slice of a very colorful life, of one very colorful man.

He takes us to his grandma's house, to the little room off from her kitchen, we get to feel his feelings...second hand. Like I was seriously in her house knocking over her vase in the dark.

"closets." is like verbal mofongo.

And damn do I love mofongo.

This was really sweet! I'm surprised that none of my friends have read this yet.... it's an online article that only took me about 15 minutes to read. I loved it, it was very emotional for such a short piece.

It's difficult for me to "review" this given how personal it is.

Still.

READ. IT.

I hope that's clear. Because this is all heart, and totally out front and center with the pain and the love and, yes, even the hope.

This is more than a 5-star read. Though, I guess maybe I should kinda sorta not rate it at all since I was given a sneak-peek before being published as a part of Queer Romance Month but... well, fook that. Five stars, because it's flawless. And, like usual, Genao's writing reminds me to stop, take a moment, and let kindness be my guide.

This was really short and a pleasant surprise. Not because I didn't expect this to be good, but because this is a love story, but not the one among two men.

It's about a grandma and a grandson.

My own grandma would be scandalized. Not because of the gay part, but because of the 'sex' part. She used to sew the cleavage of my mother's and aunt's bikinis because they were too 'revealing'. For her standars, I mean. My mother and aunt used to unpick them. And my grandma sewed them again. It was a war of wills.

I love it when my mother tells me things like this about her. She was so OTT. I laugh so hard.

My mom doesn't.

So no, I can't see her behaving the way Julio's grandma does.

When I was told my other grandma was close to become a nun I wasn't that surprised (I must say that I thank God she didn't do it in the end and married instead).

So yes, this grandma rocks.

This is Julio™.

I consider to the author to be a friend, but that in no way inflated my review. I gave him the rating he deserved. Anything else would be disingenuous bull shit.

This was sparse, and powerful. I really admire the author's ability to set the scene so well I feel like I could see it play out before me. His ability to gut punch me with emotions is pretty much unmatched. A short piece, but one that will stay with me for a long time.

Excuse me, while I go find some tissues.

My favorite piece of writing from last year's Queer Romance Month. Everyone should have someone in their life like Julio's grandmother.

As a tribute to love, both carnal (that opening, hellooooooo!) and familial (that ending--*weep*) this little bit of writing is without compare.

Recommended for anyone with ten minutes to spare and a beating heart.

I adore Julio's grandmother.

There's something unbearably sweet about the love between this tiny, fierce woman and the clumsy oaf that is her brilliant, ridiculous grandson.

Everyone should have someone who loves them that much.

Stories pulled from real life tend to feel more authentic than just fiction. Combine that feeling with the unique talent of this author to tell his stories, and you have yourself a masterpiece.

Told with humor, snark, and real emotions, this is a slice-of-life story that everyone should read.

Edit: The image for this book that's just been added is beautiful, a story so touching deserves one.

What a heart-warming story about love, passion and acceptance. I'm so happy it popped up on my GR feed.

What just happened these last 15 minutes? Wait, did I read an awsome story and it ended far too quickly? Yes, I did!

Awsome grandmothers (hell, I miss mine), sex burittos and closets! I'm not making any sense. I don't care.

Please, please, please go read it, it's short and free!

A celebration of love it deserves many, many glowing stars

I felt privileged to read this wickedly funny and soulful story that cleverly captures the complexities of love, of family and of acceptance and self.

This story is utterly gorgeous. It made me think of people that I love and those that loved me. Particularly my mum even if the piquancy of the language may have shocked her to the core, she would have embraced the sentiments and the joy of loving and being loved

Sometimes when I read a story I am reminded just how lucky I am to have books in my life. I am surrounded by them in every room of our house, in my car, everywhere. My first memories are of my mum holding me tightly as she read picture books to me, and snuggling me into bed with bedtime stories and hugs and kisses. We spent hours together reading and she showed me how to unlock the magic and to read for myself. I have always loved words and books, the stories - the worlds created. The glimpses of lives lived or temporarily shared.

Out of the thousands of stories I read long and short, some make a connection much more deeply than expected and I treasure them. Today I read closets. and it is amazing. So much so that I am at a loss to say very much about it except that you should read it for its felicity and poignancy.
