I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. you can see the original review at Genuine Jenn

If you are looking to start yoga this is a great resource book. It is packed full of great information on the history, poses, how to eat, meditation, and making sequences. The author is direct without any added fluff. It is really a KISS (keep it simple stupid) book for people looking to expand their knowledge of yoga. I have been practicing yoga for about a year now and found a lot of useful information in this book. I am not huge history person but I do want to know where yoga came from and the author tells us without rambling on and losing me. I love how clean and crisp the book is laid out. Each pose has a bit of information about the purpose, preceding pose, counter pose, precautions, the yoga term/name with the English name.

The section on nutrition is broken down into ways people can eat to be healthier without saying there is only one way to eat. The meditation section is direct to the point with five different meditations to learn. I found this to be the best meditation that I have found that is to the point and don't have me feeling overwhelmed in the end. I know I could sit down and do any one or all of the five with no problems on knowing how to do each meditation. I really want to learn how to make my own yoga sequence and this book had a really good breakdown making me feel more confident in being able to accomplish this on my own.

I give this a 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn yoga.

I really enjoyed this book on beginning Yoga. It talks about the history of Yoga, the eight limbs of Yoga, the different styles of Yoga, the health benefits of it, the different poses along with how to breathe, and also how to create your own sequences. They also have their own sequences based on what you are looking for. Lots of information, pictures on what the poses look like, and how to begin and end each sequence too. It has a chapter on meditation, and the different kinds of meditation, and at the end of the book it has some other resources you can refer to for more information.

A lot of the poses will take some practice to learn, so it will take some time (as the book states, it's a practice, not about perfection). I'm looking forward to learning them and in the future creating my own sequence that will be tailored for me. I really love this beginner book on Yoga!

Excellent, simple, engaging and KIND.
I know that’s a weird adjective for a manual but truly the author wrote this with such a regard and so mindfully of her readers and virtual students, with utter respect for everyone approaching this...
It was a beautiful read and I felt encouraged and pushed forward in my learning process of Yoga.

This is EXCELLENT for beginners like me, those who truly just put their feet on the mat and don’t know where to start.

Start here. Trust me.

This book came with the HumbleBundle “Work it out”, the most disappointing bundle I’ve bought so far. I began reading with very low expectations. Actually, I have leafed through the book, because all I wanted to know was whether this book could be helpful designing my own sets of exercises. The chapter with the individual poses was okay, no more no less. I can use that. The yoga pose library will be helpful. The sequences chapter assumes you already know all the poses by heart. Instead of adding smaller drawings of the poses you now will have to move back and forth through the book. The other chapters can easily be ignored.

Great little beginner's guide for those who either have no knowledge of Yoga or if you're like me and haven't done any Yoga in years and are basically starting over from square one. Explains the basics, leads you through the poses, and lists various sequences you can do with the poses. Also has tips on nutrition and meditation. Great little guide to get you started on incorporating Yoga into your life.

Delivers What It Offers

This is just what it says: an easy-to-use guide to the basics of yoga for any beginner. It defines terms and types of practices, it includes drawings to explain poses, and lists several sequences. After finishing it, I feel much more confident in my basic understanding of yoga and my ability to follow along in a class and ask good questions.

Simple and easy to understand, yet gives me the holistic aspects of yoga. The book also describes how to practice yoga in the daily life. What I bear in my mind is the explanation of 8 limbs of yoga. I just realized that yoga is not only about poses. It also teaches you how to calm your mind.

made me fall in love with yoga in the first place, especially since it is difficult to me to attend group sessions and I exercise mostly by myself

I received this book for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions in this book are 100% my own.

Yoga has been around for a very long time. Did you know it has more benefits than just being good exercise? It can also help center yourself and relax.

This book is a great book for beginners. You get the history of yoga and what all the different terms mean.

You also get some simple basic techniques to practice. If you are interested in yoga this is the book you need to read.

It's also great as a refresher for those that are already practicing yoga.

Really informative and definitely great on the poses. I had started it before trying out an actual yoga class and it was really helpful to me to learn about and read about the history and see how the poses were done so I could practice for class. Even learning what yoga is really about and not just about bending and flexing this way and that. Not to mention a few yoga festivals to go to and try out and meet fellow yogis and such. Truly a gem of a book and well worth the short read that it is. Totally recommend it to beginners.

Do it myself yoga is very convenient for me to do at the very comforts of my own home and with the choice of free time I have. I am into diet and as well a fitness enthusiast but would rather explore everything on the bright side of being dependent so I rely more on tutorial videos and handy books such as this one which was very helpful in starting my Yoga sessions. It provided me all the necessary basics that I needed to know and what I appreciate more on this book are the colorful illustrations that did guided me on learning the Yoga poses, very informative specially for beginners like me.
