A novel about football seemed like a great one to start on Super Bowl Sunday!

While I do love football, the novel lacked a depth in character and story line to keep me fully engaged. On the positive side, I delighted in the happy ending for Cassie and Reed.

Catch of a Lifetime by Candee Fick
Wanted to read this book because it's about football and I do enjoy watching a good game.
This one starts out with Cassie and she's the new assistant sports therapist for the team. She's relocated from Georgia to Colorado, attending classes at the same college and living on campus as well as getting paid to do her job.
Story is also about Reed who's trying to prove to himself and his relatives that he can live on his own and be a good coach for the football team, mentoring the playing and helping them grow up.
What I liked about this book was the detailed knowledgeable information, not only about the play by play action during the football games, but techniques used for taping different bones in one's body.
Got confusing at times with all the players and all the coaches involved but during the book it becomes clear where they all fit in.
A football player had caused her father to die, we learn and she talks to a friend about her past. She also has had to live through the pain of returning to that town with her new football team to aid along the sidelines when she learns what the head football player is doing with his second chance.
Just when things are going good for them, whether it's a good or bad idea that they don't tell others of their dating, a bad event occurs that riles everybody as they are about to head off to a big game
Throughout the book they each pray to the Lord for guidance and help them get through another difficult crisis. Like how she and others are able to work through and move on with their life.
I received this book from Book Club Network (bookfun.org) in exchange for my honest review.

I had the privilege of meeting Candee at the 2014 American Christian Fiction Writers Conference and we've kept in touch since then. Now her book, Catch of a Lifetime, has just released, which is so awesome and I'm honored to tell you about this book.
I liked the peek into college football that I got throughout this book. I know very little about football aside from what happens on the field during playing time, so it was fun to see some of the triumphs and struggles off-field. I liked how Reed was a coach who was a believer and how he struggled to maintain his integrity. It wasn't easy for him, which I appreciated, because that's real life right there. Cassie is a sweet heroine who I felt for as she had to work a job she'd never wanted, one she dreaded at first, actually. It was cool seeing how she started to heal from her past and learned how to forgive again. The way Cassie and Reed had to go about their relationship also was fun, yet also edge-of-your-seat. Candee wraps up the story well, I especially liked how she handled Reed's family expectations. She threw in a twist at the end that had me hurting for Cassie, yet also showed the integrity of the people around her and their love for her, which was so sweet.
In all, I loved this book. I could hardly put it down, and I'm so excited for Candee and what she'll be putting out next. Excellent fiction debut!

I was given a review copy of Catch of a Lifetime from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I received no monetary compensation for my review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Football

Cassie lost her father to a drunk driver, and her mother a year later to pneumonia. And she couldn't stay at her old college for her Masters Degree. She end up in Colorado and falls for Reed one of the Assistant Coaches. Can there be love.

Not a football fan - still loved this book! 4.5 stars
I’m going to go ahead and confess this: I’m not a football fan. I’m more in the category of “Hide! The game’s coming on!” Okay, now that we have that out of the way, I do have to say that I truly loved this book! So, if you’re second guessing picking up this story because you don‘t care for the sport, don’t worry about that part of it. You’ll hopefully love it as much as I did.
Ms. Fick's writing is excellent! The characters and setting came to life for me and I was drawn into the story from page one. This was definitely a quick read for me. Once I started it, I didn't want to put it down and also stayed up late finishing it. Her details and descriptions flowed perfectly throughout the story and even a football idiot such as myself very rarely became lost. I actually enjoyed the extra details she supplied regarding the sport, because even when I didn't fully understand, I could still picture it easily.
The protagonists are well rounded and I really liked both of them. They were incredibly realistic and seemed like people I would actually know and be friends with. Cassie Parker, is an academic advisor for the students on the football team. She despises the sport in general, but also has little respect for the teammates, due to a poor experience with football players in the past. I enjoyed watching her grow closer to them and actually become great friends with a few of them. Once she looked beyond the uniform to the people behind them, she found some wonderful friends. Cassie also has a strong faith in God, though it has been rocked by past events and she questions His will in her life. I appreciated her faith, but also the realism we see in her. Because, honestly, who hasn’t questioned God at some point? She isn’t perfect, but maybe that’s why I loved her so much.
Reed Worthington is the receivers’ coach (hope I have that right), who strives to do his best and be someone his team members can look up to. I loved him too. He is honorable and truly cares about each of the students he comes in contact with. I appreciated his desire to be a man worth emulating and he reaches toward God for guidance in that area. He is also less than perfect, and as his relationship with Cassie progresses, we see some mental struggles on his behalf. At first, I questioned Ms. Fick’s decision to include his struggle, but the further I read, the more I was grateful for her decision to make Reed realistic. Instead of causing me to lose respect for him, I found I loved him even more because of his desire to honor God and Cassie.
Honestly, the only reason I'm rating this at 4 1/2 instead of 5 stars is because I wish the story had been a bit longer. Ms. Fick touches on a few difficult topics, such as forgiveness, trusting God, physical assault, and dealing with temptation (as mentioned above). All things that were woven carefully throughout the story and handled well. I just would have appreciated more page time for them. In keeping with the book length, I felt they were a bit glossed over, at times. But, that being said and again noting the length of the story, I believe Ms. Fick did an admirable job of including such difficult topics. She took the book beyond what some would call “fluff” reading and made it something more. I must applaud her for that.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick read that touches the heart and may leave you thinking!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author for my honest review, which I have given. I was not required to write a positive review and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.

I was a good quarter of the way into this book before I realized that I had read so much of it so quickly! Yes, this is a book that will pull you in from the very first page. And in no time, you will lose yourself in the story and forget whatever else you had on your to do list! These are the best kinds of stories to read. Ms. Fick creates a world that the reader can relate to so well that you can’t help but fit right in. Her attention to detail is phenomenal and she builds a steady plot line page by page.

On the very first page we are introduced to one of the story’s main characters, Cassie, a new graduate assistant who will be working with the football team, taping ankles and helping the trainer to assess injuries. We sense that Cassie has had a rough journey getting here and we are immediately pulled in to the story to care about her…and to find out what happened on her journey that made things so difficult.

We then meet Reed, an assistant coach for the team, who is trying to prove himself to the head coach. Reed struggles with finding the right balance of discipline and motivation for his players and there are so many wonderful examples of authentic leadership with this character throughout the book: how he gives the younger players a chance, when he takes risks that don’t always pay off, is it worth it to start a talented player with skill, but with a weak work ethic?.

As if each of the story’s main characters doesn’t have enough of their own troubles to face, they want to pursue a relationship with each other but have to do so cautiously due to school rules about staff dating students. I love how the author shows us two strong characters willing to take the risk to be together, but within the parameters of the school’s rules. Not only do they have official guidelines to stay within, but we also learn of their strong moral values regarding intimacy in relationships. Again, both Cassie and Reed demonstrate staying mentally strong when physical and emotional desire is equally as strong.

Will Cassie and Reed get caught? Will they ever feel safe in expressing themselves to each other without compromising their jobs? Will they each find fulfillment on their own without losing themselves in their jobs? So many questions keep the reader flipping the pages until the very end!
I just absolutely loved this book! My love of it was evident within the first few pages, when I found I had been glued to it for some time. I could relate to everything in it—I was a graduate assistant and fondly remember those days of working long hours only to have to study in the remaining hours left in the day. I remember the energy of a university and how exciting it felt to be on a blank canvas where you could pain the next chapter of your life. Reading this book took me inside the game of college football and I learned things I had actually always wondered about!

This book is a must read! It’s a fast-paced story with the perfect touch of romance to leave the reader feeling warm, fulfilled and definitely inspired. I cannot wait for the next book by Candee Fick!

I am a huge football fan. I love the sport and the way the team comes together working for a common goal. As I began to read this book I couldn't put it down. The author does an outstanding job of making you feel like you are watching behind the scenes of a college football team. The details of playing the game are very realistic and makes you feel as if you are in the stands watching as you cheer for your team.

I enjoyed getting to know Cassie as she joins a football team as the athletic academic advisor and assists the training staff . There is something from her past that could cause her not to be an objective person when it comes to the players. Will her past catch up with her? Can she put her anger and unforgiveness aside and be a team player?

Reed is the coach for the receivers of the team and a very likeable person. His passion for the game and his players is a true example of a great coach. He genuinely cares for his team and wants the best for them. He has always thought of himself a disappointment to his dad. Will be be able to prove to his parents that his coaching job is important? Reed wants to please his parents , but it seems like they can't accept his career choice.

There is a budding romance between Cassie and Reed that will soon cause trouble for them. Will one of them have to resign in order to keep seeing each other? Is it possible to keep their relationship a secret? I enjoyed reading how these two characters tried to fight their feelings and stay true to their faith. It is an enjoyable read with a surprising twist in the book that could change the lives of many. The author gives us a glance into lives that struggle with acceptance, unforgiveness and pride.

This may be the author's debut novel, but with writing so explosive and heartpounding I'm sure there will be more books to enjoy from her.

If you enjoy football and romance, I think you will enjoy this book. Personally, I know just about zilch about football, so keeping up with the football jargon, plays, etc was a bit challenging for me. Nonetheless, it did not take away from enjoying the book.

Once I got past the first few chapters, I got into the story and enjoyed seeing how it played out. Cassie has just recently changed schools due to tragic circumstances surrounding her previous school. She also hates football, well, maybe not the sport exactly, but certainly those egotistical guys playing on the field, who think they are "all that". But God has plans for Cassie, and they can only be fulfilled if she is willing to surrender her will to His, as well as, take a few chances. There is also that five-letter word, that holds a huge punch - TRUST. And that is something Cassie struggles with.

First day on the job, Cassie meets Reed, rookie coach, struggling to find his worth and value apart from what his family thinks of his career choice. A man with a deep relationship with God and great values, but also a man whose life is surrounded by football, and football players. Even after Cassie gets to know him, can she let her fears go?

This book is about love, trust, forgiveness, and so much more. I really enjoyed how Candee weaves together the story along with the faith of those involved. Pretty much it is a predictable read, just a steady paced enjoyable book. There is a bit of a twist towards the end, that adds a bit of excitement and it contains a meaningful ending.

This is the first book I have read by Candee and aside from my cluelessness about football, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Catch of a Lifetime was the most romantic story of football I have ever read! Even if you don’t like football, you’ll love this book. Even if you don’t like romance, you’ll love this book. Candee Fick has composed a compelling romance between football coach, Reed, who can’t seem to please his parents and Cassie, the athletic trainer, who hates football.
Aside from the obvious irony, this story narrates a true to life situation in which two people help each other work through the mental and emotional barriers preventing them from enjoying their careers. The in depth look into the lives of the players they focus on is another added element that will have you rooting for the Cougars football team both on and off the field.
Set in the beauty of Fort Collins, Colorado, Reed and Cassie fall in love in what can only be described as a God-orchestrated set of circumstances. Both grow in their relationship with God as they seek to discover their own romantic feelings for one another. The need to keep their love for one another a secret, hidden behind the pretense of a professional relationship, only seems to make them love one another even more.
Pick up Catch of a Lifetime by Candee Fick and you won’t be putting it down anytime soon. It is a story that will live in your heart long after the final page has been turned.

Running plays and passes, academic eligibility and sidelining injuries. Cassie isn’t sure she can handle the football world after what happened, but she doesn’t have many options. As a rookie coach, pressure to win rests heavy on Reed’s shoulders. Can they overcome the challenges they face?

Catch of a Lifetime draws readers not only onto the field, but into the lives of college players and their coaches. The hours of practice, study, and review may pay off, or they may all come to a devastating end. Knowing the risk, the players and coaches must give it their all.

The action continues to move throughout the story as comfortable routines are interrupted by the victory or defeat in each game. The cast is highlighted by distinctive personalities and likable characters.

I would caution those who are more conservative readers that there are a few scenes that are “edgier” than some might prefer. The story is clean, but it does deal honestly with realistic situations. (I would not suggest my daughter read it until she is a bit older.)

Those who love football (or who love men and/or boys who do) will enjoy Catch of a Lifetime and the thrill of the season.

What a wonderful story. I loved the depth of the characters, I loved the interweaving of faith and morals in the book but also loved that the author didn't shy away from "bad things" happening to good people. It DOES happen and how we handle life says a lot about our character.

The main female character Cassie, a gymnast, Olympic alternate, has suffered...she has a past, nothing that she did wrong really, but a past that has caused her to hate all things football...unfortunately she gets assigned as the academic monitor and trainer asst for the football team. The LAST place on earth she wants to be.

The main male character Reed is following his dreams. MUCH to the chagrin of his parents. Can Reed find love? Can he find acceptance from his parents?

Cassie and Reed navigate the waters of a football team plagued with attitudes, good, bad, ugly, and somehow find their way back to the faith they both know they need. But can this faith hold them together in their strongest test? Read the book and find out!

***I received an advance pdf copy of this book as part of the author's launch team. I am giving an honest review of the book as I see it. I was not given the book in exchange for a good review, only an honest review.

“Don’t tell me you hate football.”

A last-minute change in responsibilities lands Cassie Parker a job assisting the university football team, the last place she wants to have to spend her time. Looking for a fresh start, she has just moved to Colorado as a grad student in the Health and Exercise program, but things have started badly for her. She rises, however, to the challenges before her: academic oversight of the players, athletic training, classes, and tutoring. Most importantly, she learns she can’t judge all football players by the poor decisions of one.

Reed Worthington is a first-year football coach, working hard to prove himself in front of the players, coaching staff, and his father. Cassie and Reed soon discover that they have a shared faith and realize that there is an attraction between them. But university football is demanding. Can they overcome the many obstacles to their relationship?

This was a fun, quick read. I loved the football setting, and it was great to watch the characters grow in faith and integrity. I recommend this book, whether or not you are a football fan.

Football is not something I'm drawn to, and if I were to judge a book by the cover, I'd likely choose not to read this book. It would be a mistake. Cassie and Reed are realistic characters with struggles most of us can identify with. Cassie has been badly hurt by a football star, and it is her worse nightmare when she's assigned a job working with them in her work-study assignment. Reed struggles with trying to be good enough to catch his parent's attention. He knows what he wants, but rules seem to work against him.

I loved the main characters, but some of the secondary characters won my hearts just as much. Marquis, Hunter... I wanted more about them. Derek vaguely reminded me of someone I know--thankfully not to the same extent...

Candee Fick delivers an impeccable debut in this remarkable tale, filled with vivid storytelling. Catch of a Lifetime invites readers onto a journey of a lifetime as Cassie and Reed discover that even when they fumble the ball, or are getting blindsided in the red zone, the whistle hasn’t blown. The play is still alive, The Coach is on the sidelines, and His playbook is always available. This story is sure to score a touchdown with football fans and romance readers alike.

Highly recommended.

One of my favorite quotes is from the late Larry Burkett who said, "If both of you had everything in common, one of you would be unnecessary." That's the fun of reading Catch of a Lifetime. Reed is all about football and Cassie isn't a fan. But she's thrust into the sport and has to work with Reed, who wants a winning season and a lasting career. What neither of them count on is the sparks they find with each other.

There's so much to enjoy about Catch of A Lifetime. I love that she created a football world that even the most uninterested reader can understand and keep turning the pages. The sports aspect is part of the plot but not overwhelming. She created real characters. They have wounds, temptations and personalities to deal with. Finally, the romance is sweet. This is a romance I think older teens could pick up and hand off to their grandmothers and there's no shame between the pages. That's a big deal for me.

Whether you're in the bleachers cheering on your favorite team or sitting on the couch reading while your loved one watches a game, you need to pick up a copy of Catch of a Lifetime. It's a touchdown.

I loved this story! From page one, I was drawn in and didn't want the story to end. Cassie Parker and Reed Worthington have a chemistry that jumps off the page. Advising football players, football games, and a romance that can't be, makes for a page turning story! The football aspect is so seamlessly woven in, it doesn't take away from the story.

Cassie is a graduate student and the athletic academic advisor as she works on her degree. She also helps the training staff during practices and games. But with her past, is she the best person for the job? Will her best be good enough for the team? She must overcome her past and learn to forgive, as God forgave her.

Reed is the receivers' football coach. Will his family ever accept his job choice? He realizes with Cassie's help, they can make the team what it needs to be. Can he juggle his football life with a walk with God? With the long hours, and time away, it's hard to find time to go to church.

Will Cassie be able to forgive someone from her past in order to have a future with Reed? Pick up this great book! You won't be disappointed.

Grab you favorite blanket, a cup of tea or coffee and get ready to snuggle as you watch the leaves fall off the tree as you settle into a romantic story about football.
"Catch of a Lifetime" is a quick read because you can't put the book down. Cassie and Reed are the main characters in this story, which the character depth is on FRONTLINES people! Candee Fick does a fantastic job at building the character depth and relationship with the characters, which makes this book that much stronger.
The main theme of this book is how Cassie and Reed are attracted to one another, but cannot pursue a relationship due to circumstances. Does God have bigger plans for these two? Can he orchestrate something despite the set of set of circumstances and professional relationship they need to keep? Sometimes is God calling us to wait in his perfect time as he works the details? The only way to know is to read the book. Nothing about this book is perfect, except it's the perfect book for YOU!

I highly recommend it. You won't be able to put it down! Ps. Even if you don't enjoy romance novels, you'll love this book.

These types of stories make football more interesting to me. I love the teamwork and discipline that goes into playing. The story of Cassie and Reed was enjoyable. I am glad that they writer brought to light so many issues that we face in our walk with God. How to live a pure life? What is being pure? How do you build on a relationship that is secret? What to do when you are faced with temptation? How do you deal when bad things happen to you? Do you run to God or from him?
The lessons learned from these characters will help you in your walk with God. Anger unchecked can and will destroy everything you want to do in life. You have to always be prepared so that when the time is right God can use you. If you want a Godly relationship, God must be the center of it. The little decisions that you make daily will help you when the temptation or trials comes. Forgiveness is so freeing.

First off let me say that I have a limited understanding of football and the inside workings, but I am glad I didn't let that stop me from reading this novel. I was never lost, as Candee has a way of drawing the reader in without being so detail oriented that she bores the reader. I love the characters of Cassie and Reed, especially how realistic their everyday struggles were. Things we all face in one form or another. Candee deals with forgiveness, hurts, the struggle to stay accountable, and faith with great sensitivity. I enjoyed this so much that I wish it was longer and delved into their relationship in more depth. I highly recommend this for a quick enjoyable read that leaves you wanting to read more by Candee Fick.

Pleasing our parents, living up to unrealistic expectations, and beating ourselves up over things that are beyond our control- how much more real can it get? As the coach- Reed, mentors his team and Cassie, who HATES anything football, is gritting her teeth to be an athletic trainer to earn a stipend and free tuition at college- they can't deny the attraction between them. As they both try to mentor the players, they start working through some of their personal issues and shared faith. The players and their personalities bring a wonderful dimension to the story. A wonderful romance but also a wonderful reminder to let God heal the wounds and fill in the gaps. I was given a free copy of this book and this review is purely my own opinion.

I enjoyed this book. I occasionally watch football, not your, “want to know everything about the game,” kind of guy. But I loved going behind the scenes, into the coach’s meetings, and the locker rooms.

Reed and Cassie like each other, but because of staff/student off-limit relationships, they had to keep their love secret. That added to the tension.

Cassie suffered from past events that she had to work through. I paid close attention to how she became victorious, becoming free from her past.

There were many lessons in this book. Those teaching moments came naturally and added wisdom to the book.

I look forward to more books by Candee Fick. I’ve added her to my favorite author list.

"Catch of a Lifetime" is a sweet romance novel. This story centers around Reed, who breathes football and Cassie, who despises football. There is a romantic interest there, however, they have to work through their differences. Then something happens and both of their careers are on the line.

I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys good and clean romance novels. I received this book from bookfun for my honest opinion.

Emotionally gripping book. I immediately felt for Cassie as she struggled with her unforgiveness. She grew and changed through the book, and when she had the biggest reason to hate the game, she embraced it instead. Very nicely written and definitely engaging.

Read this book even if romance is not your favorite genre. I was wrapped up in the book from the very beginning, wondering what happened to Cassie to cause her anger. The lessons she learned helped heal her aching heart. Even the background of university football was written in a very interesting way. I will not hesitate to read any book she writes.

Touchdown

I enjoyed this book! I have 2 boys who play high school football, and very involved in the team, so when I see a story about football and Christian romance, I have to get it! I was not disappointed!
Cassie and Reed are both trying to achieve the same goal - Reed trying to win football games, but teach his boys responsibility, respect, there is more to life than football, and leadership! Cassie is the new girl who is really good at what she does in regards to being a trainer. She uses past injuries and what she has gone through to teach life lessons to the boys, but some of them have a hard time learning the lessons.

I can't wait for the sequel!!

Catch of a Lifetime

Well I like football and have for 26 years, but this book was over the top. I understood what was hapenning, but regardless of someone's occupation, this like reading about the highs and lows of a job. Where on earth was the storyline? The author has potential, but wow cut all the occupational talk. It was like reading the blow by blow drama of college football drama.

Great read even if your not a football fan!

I loved this book!! It had humor, real life situations, the characters had integrity in that they stood up for one of their own who was hurt. The one bad thing was that the scriptures that were used and quoted were great but were not told where those scriptures were in your bible for you to read for yourself. On the though great book will defiantly reread and share. Great read for everyone tennis and preteens included.

What a catch!

There was never a dull moment. Loved the hero and heroine. Candee handled the football life well. Anyone who likes a good romantic read should read this. I love when a Christian writer isn't afraid to reveal the biblical bases for the characters decisions made in the story, keeping the read entertaining.

Great book

This story is a perfect read for September through January as college football is underway. This book kept my attention. There is enough reality to the rules surrounding eligibility, the students athletes and the coaches to make it believable. This also shows how integrity can and will impact lives..

Faith, Football, and Forgiveness

Throw in romance and an interesting twist and you have a great story! Cassie learns that forgiveness can set her free, people can change, but God is faithful to see her through some horrible events, and bless her, too. There’s also the lesson for all of us to look past appearances and ask God to give us a discerning heart and mind.

Good Book

Clean book

I enjoyed this book. The relationship and the consequences that could happened if they go for it. I enjoyed how they looked at every angle. How they worked together. How they both found they had the support they both were looking for.
