The Deborah Anointing: Embracing the Call to be a Woman of Wisdom and Discernment

Rate this book
The Old Testament describes Deborah as a mighty combination of judge, intercessor, prophetess, mother of Israel, and military strategist. Deborah broke outside of her culture--not out of rebellion, but in obedience to God to set her people free. As in biblical times God is calling today's women to a purpose greater than themselves. The Deborah Anointing shows you that although you may have been trapped in tradition and locked into captivity by cultural and gender prejudices, God desires for you to break through these barriers. Now is the time to embrace the fullness of your purpose!
Whatever your sphere of influence at work, at home, or at church--will you acc ept the challenge to be a modern-day Deborah, stand for God, and boldly lead others to Him?

Holy filled Gems but awkward delivery

Ill be honest and say when first purchased the book, I was prepare for a "hit and miss". It is hard these days to find a book on prophecy without the author going super left to new age similarities or rebuking the call altogether. Michelle did a great job of connecting scripture with truth about the gift of prophecy as well as the importance for women to use it in this present day. How she went on to explain herself is a different story. I felt that in one chapter she would explain the importance of leadership and being equal as men in the role of the church but in the very same breath she would say that women are different from men and should followed their ordain roles given by God. Honestly at the end of the book, which ended abruptly in my opinion, I'm still on the fence on what position she took and the point she was trying to make. Howwever, the prayers she written in this book for each chapter is enough to just buy the book alone. They are truly powerful and anointed!

Loved it!

I absolutely loved this book. The breakdown of the many hats Deborah wore blessed and encouraged me. I no longer feel like I have to neglect my call or put it on the back burner to be a wife and mother. I know I can do it all with the proper balance and wisdom that only God provides.

Make no mistake. This is a very Christian book. A very, very Christian book. But reading it on the Sabbath when the story of Deborah is the haftarah, I got a lot out the book, and it forced me to read the original text several times. While the author speaks in terms of the church and ministry, every woman can "embrace the call to be a woman of wisdom and discernment." The book also praises Jael (Yael), the woman who killed the enemy general -- also a woman of wisdom and discernment, but one who obviously had a different calling than Deborah, who was a mother, judge and military leader.
An interesting read.

I am listening to the audiobook and eBook on Hoopla. I am enjoying the narrator; however, I am gathering more insight from the eBook version. I know the Lord Jesus had me read about Deborah in the bible over 10 yrs ago, I searched for any book I could get my hands on back then--definitely reading the bible on her! The Lord called me to be a prophetess then; did radio and ministry radio back then--yet, he wanted me to go the legal route. I did in 2015-17 but stopped gears in prison-like ministry and programs, when I may have to head back in the legal arena. I will be in prayer about it when I am reading about such a woman of God!

Michelle McClain-Walters' books on the relevance of biblical women leaders to the empowerment of women today are both fascinating and inspiring. While I find some of her political, social and theological statements deeply problematic and counter to the personal and social transformation on behalf of which she writes, her work is clearly transformational in the context of her own faith tradition (which I believe to be the Apostolic-Prophetic Movement), and resonates across standard denominational and theological boundaries.

I read this book hoping to get enough content about embracing the call from Deborah's perspective. She is a character in the bible that is seldom addressed. The book did a good job at minimum on its own. If you are looking for a deeper more conceptual understanding of the reading text, I recommend reading this book with the study guide. My intention was not to study but to understand a little deeper and the book did met that minimally. It introduced some topics and key scriptures that I can reference on my own later.

Another thing the book ends without a proper closer. It was so abrupt that I flipped through the last few pages a couple times to make sure I wasn't crazy. That was really shocking and I do not help the rating of the book at all. How can you write a book without closing it out and redefining the purpose.

I have the audio CD version of this lovely book. The vision is clear, and the material is uplifting. This would certainly make a wise addition to my personal library. The only fault that I could find is that because it is an audio version, there was no place to leave notes, highlight particular passages, or indicate the questions to be researched later (per instruction). Were this the printed version, I could easily attain those particular points. Highly recommended for the material covered, but I would just as highly recommend that the reader have the printed copy available at the same time.

This book came at just the right time for me. I was given a call to be like Deborah about 15 years ago. This book gave me so much insight and much encouragement for the journey I have been on. I underlined more than I didn't, and it just felt like reading something where someone completely gets your heart. I really liked the authors emphasis on time and seasons. It has been 15 years and I can see how God has taken me through the winter wilderness and through the spring. I feel like I am just on the cusp of summer. What encouragement that a calling takes time! If you are called to be a Deborah I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

I found this book to be very enlightening. Deborah is an individual who is mentioned in the Bible book of Judges. I rarely hear anyone teach about her but she was a significant leader in ancient Israel. I was excited to find this book. I was even more excited to find that the author took a real deep dive into the history around Deborah's time as a judge. The author explained so much about a character that we really don't usually hear a lot about. I also want to note that because Deborah was a woman in leadership in Israel she is often overlooked. I think that is a mistake. I am very glad that I found this book and will be recommending it to friends especially women.

I read this book with a few girls from my church in a book study. This book could not have been speaking to my life more in the moment I read it. So many things about Gods calling on my life have been revealed to me. I enjoyed every chapter and the discussion for each chapter along with the study guide really puts the woman’s role as a leader into perspective. This book will teach you how to balance the many roles in your life as you focus on Gods calling specifically enabled for you. I am interested in reading her other books to enhance other areas of my life!

Powerful Read

So many layers and a revelatory depth to the life, character, ministry and anointing of Deborah and how it applies to us. Deborah had always been a difficult Bible character for me to relate to, but having read this book, my heart burns with passion to see her anointing manifested in the women of this generation and beyond. Recommended for anyone who senses a prophetic call upon their life.

This book was very impactful! I honestly loves how after every chapter there was prayer that we could recite. It’s important to learn and know who we are in Christ. It’s already hard enough being a woman but to be a woman, Christian and successful come with a lot of challenges. This book helps to share that women can have it all but always remembering to but God first! Because with out Him we have nothing but empty dreams.

Michelle McClain-Walters provided great insight into the Deborah Anointing with understanding God's purpose and plan for His daughters. I am inspired to become the woman God has designed me to be and to wholeheartedly fulfill His purpose on earth. I meditated on the Word and journaled my thoughts and prayers as I read.

Great book with amazing insight into Deborah and her anointing. I especially appreciated the activation prayers at the end of each chapter. Although this is a book you could easily read in a few hours, I suggest digesting it slowly over time. I definitely recommend this book!

I personally needed this book. A reminder of calling but also a challenge to walk with humility. I will be reading this over again as many of the ending prompts should take more time to process. It is short and to the point, but powerful.

The first 2 chapters were ok… then it took a turn. Very self-focused… so much about “our destiny fulfillment” as women. Too much time fighting against older cultural gender roles to be of actual value today. Not impressed.
