Sadie's small town life is perfect. As the owner of an antiques shop, she spends her days collecting rare and unusual trinkets for her customers and living her ideal life.

When she discovers one of her customers dead, just outside the back entrance to her shop, Sadie's seemingly simple existence is thrown into a tailspin, especially after it's discovered that one of her rare branding irons was used to mark the victim's body.

With all eyes on her, Sadie will have to get suspicion off of her and flush out the real killer before they strike again.

I'd have liked a little more backstory on some of these characters. Like who's Lucy? Clearly she's a good friend of Sadie and likes helping her go through boxes of stuff she's bought for the shop. The shop wasn't even told much about let alone its name. If this is a spin-off series, I'm not aware of it, but even if that was the case, I'd still think the characters should be a little more fleshed out in the very first book. The character of Rosie was written about like she's a town friend, but nothing was really said about who she is or what her purpose is in the town.

I did really love that sweet little Jack Russell of Sadie's. He had a good part to play in the showdown with the killer. The killer wasn't too hard to figure out, and the showdown was good. I'm sure I'll give the series another chance and read the second book in KU eventually.

Sadie runs a secondhand shop and has a small dog that she talks to like a real person. When the baker from next door ends up dead behind her shop, killed with a branding iron from her shop, she sets out to find out what happened.

Sadly, I had high hopes for this book, but it didn't take long to wonder if this was a parody or a comic book instead. It definitely wasn't a serious mystery. The dialogue was laughable. Nobody talks like Sadie or anyone else in the book. She spent more time flirting and talking to the dog than being worried about a killer on the loose. It read like a caper or something, not a real mystery. Plus, it's obvious who the murderer is from the start.

I don't usually give such negative review, but I just had to say how frustrated I was. The story had potential, but the execution killed it.

This was excellent. Another new series I think I am going to love. This one is about a middle aged junk store owner, Sadie, who finds her friend and neighbor shop owner dead on her back steps. Who killed him and why? She works with the local Chief of Police, Zack, who is interested in her for more than her sleuthing abilities, her best friend, Lucy, and her little JRT, Mr. Bradshaw. It's an interesting murder, and the ending is superb.
