This is an awesome short story. Not a horror story, but a journey into the mind of a young woman. I don't want to spoil anything due to the stories length. But I believe it was a story taking place in her mind or maybe a fantastical land. The writing was great, could tell the author takes his time with his craft.
A strange, lilting magical realist short story that muses about emotions and expectations. It may be (only) 5 pages and won't make sense right until the last second, but when it does it's really quite beautiful.
A surprisingly delicate tale of love and mysticism from Rob Shepherd, a master of the macabre. In this short, Mr. Shepherd focuses on beauty instead of dread, but explores the depths of humanity and raw emotion just as well as in his darker tales. Our heroine's burning desire bring to mind the manic despair of Charlotte Perkins Gillman's The Yellow Wallpaper. The striking touches of magic realism in Butterflies perfectly highlight the poignancy of this story. Rob Shepherd always surprises me and continuously moves me with his fiction.
A story to be interpreted more than one way, a dark beauty at the least. Each time I read it, I will wonder at its many meanings in the authors depths.
