Book 5 in the Award-Winning Mind Sweeper Series

How many supernaturals does it take to screw in a lightbulb? For this particular case, way more than Kyle McKinley has backing her up.

\When she stumbles upon a dark museum, missing artwork, and a dead security guard, Kyle and her team are thrust into a new mystery. One involving demons. But not your run of the mill demons—realm demons. Tougher, scarier, and banned from earth, they are escaping from the realm and wreaking havoc in Cleveland, Ohio, of all places.

Now the Feds have shown up, and Kyle has to deal with the one person she prayed she would never see again. Dalton. How can she keep the truth of their past from him without jeopardizing the case? Especially when the Key of Knowledge is part of the mystery. The same Key that almost cost Dalton his sanity and is now threatening hers. Kyle is just starting to get her life back together again with Griffin at her side. And now the Fates are forcing her to choose. But when a demon apocalypse looms on the horizon, her only choice is to embrace the Key to save the world, regardless of what it might cost her.

Growing up a TV junkie, award winning author AE Jones oftentimes rewrote endings of episodes in her head when she didn’t like the outcome. She immersed herself in sci-fi and soap operas. But when Buffy hit the little screen she knew her true love was paranormal. Now she spends her nights weaving stories about all variation of supernatural—their angst and their humor. After all life is about both…whether you sport fangs or not.

AE won RWA’s Golden Heart® Award for her paranormal manuscript, Mind Sweeper, which also was a RWA RITA® finalist for both First Book and Paranormal Romance. AE was also a recipient of the Booksellers Best Award for her book, Sentinel Lost.

AE lives in Ohio surrounded by her eclectic family and friends who in no way resemble any characters in her books. Honest. Now her two cats are another story altogether.

I love this series from A E Jones: plenty of action, great support characters with good repartee and a bit of loving that nearly made it to love triangle status, but tactfully escaped by the skin of the teeth. Excellent.

The first half of the series was slow but managed to pick up pace just before it it took a flying leap to the 'finish later ' shelf.

The story continues on with the tumultuous life of Kyle and, which ever way you see it, could be considered good or bad. Nevertheless the story soldiers on with epiphanies and new resolutions.

What makes this novel stand out for me, aside from the excellent storytelling, is the fine grasp of both hip colloquialisms and flowing dialogue. The ultimate appeal and success, is that by the end the author injects both new characters and new material that causes the reader want to keep going and launch into the next book.

And wait for it no cliffhanger! For solid lover's of Chloe Neill, Karen Chance, Laurell K Hamilton and Charlaine Harris.

Sex quotient: absolutely no problem with commuter worthiness.

This is the oddest series. Usually, a UF series has a big story arc, individual book arc, character change, slow burn romance. In this series, we have a good big story arc and decent individual stories, but the romance and character change and development don't cut it. Book one and book five have the main romance, but book three has the FMC developing a serious relationship with someone else, which is just dropped in book five. Books 2 & 4 are novellas about a different two characters' relationship.

Character development needed work too. MC Kyle was a "not like other girls" character, I guess she had to overcome her trust issues. All other female characters were astoundingly gorgeous and interaction was shallow. I would have rather learned more about the demon realms than what her dress looked like she got for a party-every book had a scene where she gets dressed up and looks so hot and then there's some shoot out ten minutes into the event.

Still, I liked a lot about this book and the series. It successfully kept me from thinking about work and personal life for a few hours.

This is basically a 3-book series. Books 2 and 4 are novellas about 1 main character in the book and his love interest. This book did close out the Kyle series but there is still potential for other novellas or spin off series with the secondary characters here. I will admit, I'm not so certain I appreciated the final romance decisions made by the author for the fmc. I think it was time for her to close the Dalton arc. Again, my opinion and probably not a popular one. This book really focused on the Demon aspects - the realms and the past. There are also a number of new reveals about Kyle, Dalton, and Nicholas. Also, some unknown history with the other team members related to Kyle's mom. Plenty of action and moving parts. Overall, a good series and I will look for other books from this author.

I like how Kyle has grown over the series and is trying to be more open and trusting. I enjoyed it from a story perspective with the demon realm, the crossings, the mystery and the Key. I just didn’t love the romance aspect. I felt sorry for both Kyle (& Griffin) when Doyle came back. Now I was a big Kyle/Doyle fan after book one and found her relationship with Griffin a bit rushed in book 2 so you would think I was rooting for them to get back together but sadly the changes in Doyle (even though I understand them) made him not particularly likable and there was no chemistry between them in this book.

The final book in this series doesn't disappoint. All of our favorite characters are here, but the plot of this book centers on the demons--realm demons, to be exact. Dalton is back, still without his memory of Kyle, but so is Griffin. The Key also figures into this and things are nicely wrapped up. The world building is wonderful as we learn more about the demon realm, introducing a new facet to this series. I love the characters--they are the kind of people I would like to meet in real life.

It would be helpful to read books 2 and 4 before this book, but it isn't completely necessary.

And yes, I bought all the books in her next series entitled "The Realm".

Great series

This series was a refreshing break from the same old books I've been reading lately. It was nice to find a new series I just couldn't put down. I really like the author's positive position on friendship and selflessness. I will be looking for more books by this author.

Angels & Demons

Oh yay, the ending for Kyle made me so happy. She's been through it. I love the mix of vampires, werepeeps , demons and angels co-existing and trying to keep humans from knowing of their existence.

Sentinel Lost, book five of the Mind Sweeper series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). I'll admit I skipped the novellas in this series (books two and four), A fun and funny story line with quite the mystery to solve. I really enjoyed the plot and the characters.

I love this series! The fast paced action, a little drama, romance, friendships, and mysteries to solve. I hope more books are added to this series! The new team members should have their stories added. There are still mysteries to solve such as Kyle’s father.

Excellent series.

Couldn't put it down. The characters are wonderfully diverse. Be sure to read the 2 novellas in the series. It will all come together.

Many storylines resolved. Definitely romance with more than 1 couple. There is still room for sequel books, still wanted maps.

I can understand why this series won awards. It has a lot of layers that all tie together in the end. Really liked it.

Ok this review of Sentinel Lost by A.E. Jones could be a little tricky as it’s a continuing story from books one and two, (ignore the novellas as they are a different story) and as I hate to give story lines away, this should be an interesting review

So ……. Start of the book has Kyle chasing a supernatural through a museum; he gets away, leaving a bruised and frustrated Kyle, the rest of her team join her and we find out a poor guard was killed, and another left unconscious, so the team have their next case.

The story moves along at a fast pace. There are a few unexpected moments where you go, oh !!!! Including Kyle’s ex partner and lover, Dalton. The moment when Demons send Kyle and Dalton to the in between realm. And we find out more from Kyle’s past, (that is a total OMG moment)

Now without giving too much away from previous books, Dalton is a key component to this story. To make matters worse, Kyle is now involved with a shifter leader called Griffin, (he was in the last two main books). She feels torn between Dalton and Griffin, her feelings are a jumble between them both.

For anyone who hasn’t read the previous books Kyle is a human woman capable of altering minds. She works with a supernatural unit who police the supernaturals. Misha is a demon who is a techno geek, and has an insatiable appetite for anything edible. Jean Luc is a 400 year old vampire, who has just been reunited with his mate Talia. Oh and his coffee skills are terrible. Talia, is new to the team, she worked in Vegas, until a case brought Jean Luc and the team back into her life, she is also a vamp, but not nearly as old as her mate.

Griffin is the leader of the shifters, in fact he is THE leader of all shifters, he can smell lies and emotions, and has been pursuing Kyle through the first book, and now they are a couple in the second book. Dalton is human, he was first introduced to us as a liaison between the supes (supernaturals) and the norms (humans). Sparks flew between him and Kyle almost immediately, but now being introduced to the team, he is cautious, wary and not the old Dalton (yes it has something to do with a previous book, no I’m not telling)

Nicholas is the man in charge, he hasn’t had much to do in the books, but I have a feeling he is in the background watching. There are a few other characters involved in both the other books. The books continue to be well written and the scenes are a joy to read. The characters come alive on the pages, and you ride their emotions as if they were your own.

Although the books are about different cases, there is a storyline going through the books, so to be honest you should read them in order. So I hope you’ll give this book and the whole series a read. It makes a change to have a female in a lead role. And I hope the A.E. Jones will continue with this series, as a few characters need their stories told.

Want more

Ugh, this is the last book in the series and I don't know when the next one is coming out. I've been reading these non-stop since I heard about them. Also have read the fae books. Really enjoy the author's style, great characters, just the right combination of humor, suspense and romance. Can't wait for more!

5 Stars Fabulous!

Oh my gosh. AE Jones couldn’t stop after her RITA-nominated Mind Sweeper. No, she goes for broke in this 5th book of the series (3rd full length, as 2 of the books are novellas) as our sassy heroine Kyle McKinley is ba—aack and in big trouble as usual. Kyle is the accidental recipient of a “key” of knowledge when she swept her ex- lover Dalton’s mind to save his sanity and, well…the key got embedded in her own mind. Oops.

Now Dalton is suddenly thrust back into her life, with no memory of her—and she must make a painful choice between two men. We felt her heartbreak in the first two books, and the decision she must make now is equally heart wrenching.

I was riveted from page one. The dialogue is snappy and funny and Kyle has such a strong, sassy personality. After five of these books, I feel that I know her well, yet she still continues to surprise me and make me laugh out loud.

I feel like her team of supernatural crime solvers is my own family—Misha, a demon with a Russian accent with an appetite bigger than Cleveland itself and Jean Luc, a sexy vamp with a French accent (along with other teammates Talia and Jason and well, hello, Dolly).

Of course, Cleveland stars in this novel as well, in all its glory (the bakeries and restaurants of Little Italy, the Museum of Art, John Carroll University and other fabulous nods to the city).

I love what AE Jones has done in this series—it’s bold and completely riveting, and this one is the best yet. Between the ongoing mystery, the romance, and the emotion which takes you from laughing out loud to crying, this whole series is not to be missed.

The final book in AE Jones’ Mind Sweeper series, Sentinel Lost, shows a more mature Kyle McKinley, which is in part refreshing, in part sad. On the one hand, I’m glad she thinks before she rushes into situations from which she needs rescue, but on the other hand, she’s lost some of the edginess that made her such a delightful character in the first book.

This more mature Kyle actually flips the positions in one instance, and instead of being saved, she’s the one who is the savior. I’m not going to spill any more, except to say I can relate to this Kyle more than in the earlier books.

The writing is tighter, the twists and turns just keep coming, and the series wraps up with no plot strings left dangling, which is not an easy feat in a complex story line like this one was. Good job again, AE!

Completely satisfying wrap up (at least for now--who knows what Jones has planned for Kyle and the crew?) to the Mindsweeper story. Demons all over the place, the return of Dalton, and secrets from Kyle's past all add up to a terrific story.

Jones does it again

I enjoyed this book, it was a continuation of the series that met all the expectations and more. It made you fall in love with the characters again, their banter alone will make you smile. Best of all, Kyle finds happiness.

Once again, a very easy, fast read.

This is more of a romance wrapped in an urban fiction mystery.

The last third explored the supernatural history and metaphysics.

This was my second time through it, but out loud to my wife.
