Sizzling Miami #4

Safety In Numbers

Rate this book
“Bro’s stick together no matter what.”

When Chris and Liam made that promise, they had no idea how important it would become or how it would be tested in the most brutal way. Nine years later, their bond cemented in blood, that relationship is all they have to hold onto. Or is it?

“No matter what happens, this friendship will be the one constant we can count on.”

When Billy and Owen made that promise, they knew exactly how dangerous the world could be. They survived prison by protecting each other and they survived freedom by holding that promise sacred. Now they wanted more, not from each other, but from the brothers who were reluctant to let anyone into their bond.

“We are stronger together than we’ll ever be apart.”

Self-sacrifice was nothing new to Chris and he refused to be as vulnerable as the men looking to him for support. He just wasn’t sure if he was the leader they believed him to be. Can he give Owen the strength to break through his fears? Can he show Billy that he isn't defined by his past? Can he break his silence without destroying the brother he risked his life to protect?

Or is the real question: Who will save Chris?

Like many readers, the dream of being a writer has been with me a long time. After three decades of trying, I'd begun to doubt. Thanks to social media, I followed my favorite authors hoping to glean some words of wisdom as I pounded out half-formed ideas with alarming regularity. Two repetitive themes emerged: To be a great writer you must read a lot and your butt must be in the chair every day like it's a job. The more you write, the easier it will be to write and the better you will be at writing. I took that advice to heart and write every day. With three series in the works and counting, it's been amazing to have made this dream my reality.

I am a firm believer in marriage equality, love at first sight, power dynamics and happily ever after. I'm a lover of strong secondary characters and series filled with families, biological or chosen. All are themes you'll find throughout my books.

Okay, I didn't love this book as much as I did Bull and Red's story, but I guess the main reason is that I didn't get a chance to follow and fall in love with the couples properly. It felt more like seeing them reach a happy point in their life, with the bases of their relationships formed in previous books, and that is why this one didn't make me soar as much as I had wanted to.

It is still a great journey that I went on, but I guess it would've been better had I read book 1 and 3 of the series as well. *shrugs*

Also, I have a question. If Chris and Liam became brothers officially in 2008, then shouldn't it be their 7-year anniversary of being brothers in 2015 and not 8-year?

RECENSIONE QUI: https://thereadingslove.blogspot.com/...

description

I am going to ATTEMPT to write this review without spoilers, but no promises. There are so many quotes I want to include in this review, but just trust me when I say you need to read this book (and the whole series if you haven’t yet).

This story has been a long time coming…it seems like forever we’ve been waiting to ‘hear’ what Chris has to say. We’ve been teased with it in Tricking Chase and Their Reason. These 4 men have had me intrigued since we met them; they’ve been surrounded by sexual tension, passion and confusion from the beginning. Even in For a Reason – my favorite book of the series featuring my favorite 2 characters – I found myself asking ‘what the heck is going in with these 4 men?’…I need to know their stories. And so finally, here they are…mostly. (For those of you unfamiliar with Ms. G’s work, she’s a bit of a tease…always leaving you salivating with some questions to be answered later.)

So I guess I’ll start with Owen. I’m not going to lie…I didn’t like him in For a Reason – at all. He was a bit of a jerk and I knew there had to be a reason but I didn’t care then because he just made me so mad. We finally find out why he’s been somewhat resentful toward Bull and why he acted as he did. Chapter 6…that’s when he won me over…I don’t remember much about him in this book before that (I’ll have to re-read this story a few times to have it completely memorized) but in Chapter 6 he had me. (and truthfully, that cover picture of him didn’t hurt.) At times he seems weak, but through Chris’ eyes we see that he’s actually really strong when someone believes in him.

Oh Chris…I can’t swoon too much over him or my friend Wendy will get mad (she claims he belongs to her and we let her because she found the perfect picture of him). I KNEW when he opened his mouth we’d want to listen…and I was right. Wow…he’s a pretty perfect alpha male among these men. He had a crap hand dealt to him and it basically broke him which is what caused him to shut down. He’s carrying around guilt that he really didn’t need to be carrying. He has a great relationship with his brother, Liam. He brings out the best in those around him. He is vulnerable in his strength. He is the perfect man for Owen. (Chris and Owen leapfrogged over Ty and Chase to be my new 2nd favorite couple in this series. Bull and Ian are my favorite.)

Liam seems to be the life of this party. He’s a bit silly and a bit funny, especially when he’s around Billy because Billy makes him so happy. There are a couple of times that you absolutely laugh out loud at him. I love how he loves Billy. Billy has been so unloved for so long that Liam really has to show him how great he is and the best way to do that is to just love him…so he does. He is a great brother to Chris, even though they still carry a bit of tension from the past that they work through in the story. He reminds me a little of a playful Javi and Ian…he too seems a bit lost but is on his way to figuring out what he wants in his life.

And that leaves Billy Bear. He was a bit of a hellion as a young man and he paid for it, not only through the penal system but with his family as well. It is amazing to me how such a big strong man can lack self-confidence and be so vulnerable. It is through Liam (and Trick) that he starts to gain confidence. He is so truly sweet with Liam; you really just want to hug him. While Billy went through some growing pains in this book, he still has some work to do with his family.

The dynamic between Billy and Owen and Chris and Liam is made clear in this book if you didn’t already understand it going in. These men will always be in each other’s lives and we had to have all of them in this story to get the full picture of each of their lives and futures.

Overall, this is another must read from Jessie and one that I will read again and again (as with the other books in this series).

I'm sadly disappointed with Chris, Billy, Liam & Owen's story. I have really liked the other books in this series and really looked forward to this book. However, it's just too.... angsty? Jumpy? Filled with backstory?... All of those and more that I can't quite put my finger on. Not only that but a few things were just left dangling. *sigh* I'm just left with feeling that this was a revisiting of all these guys instead of a romance. SMH... this certainly is not a romance and I set it down several times just to go find something else to do. I finally just made myself sit down and finish just so I could be done with it.

I thought this book was a awesome addition to this series!
Now I will admit I was confused a little bit but that was because I am not really used to reading about two different couples. But it all came together so good! I thought the author wrote Chris and Owens, Liam and Billy's stories so perfect for them. Since finishing book 3 in this series I have been so excited to read this book because the relationship between these four men seemed so odd to me and now I get it. You can really feel how close this four men are to each other, what a tight bond they have to each other. No this is not a four way relationship. This is definitely two couples finally admitting their feelings to the one they love.
So besides getting to see these two couples grow together you also see some of the characters from the previous books in this series which I loved. But I will say Chris has been my favorite so far, there is just something about a man who is quiet yet so strong and so protective over those he loves. Also when you find out what he did for Liam that just made me love his character more you could defiantly see how much this two brothers cared about each other.
Owen is very shy in this book was Billy was strong but unsure of himself when it came to Liam. I thought when Billy has his talk to Chris about Liam it was so sweet!
So I really don't want to spoil anymore of this book for anyone, hopeful I did not say to much because this is one you definitely need to read for yourself.

So all together I really loved this book!

I would definitely recommend this series!

I absolutely loved this book! Jessie says at the beginning of the book that the story of these four men needed to be told together and she was so right. I think the book would have been incomplete if it told the story of only Billy and Liam or only Chris and Owen. These four beautifully damaged men complete one another in so many ways.

I loved the circumstances under which Chris finally broke his silence and his reasons for not doing it sooner. I love that Chris takes over as the "leader" of the four while still submitting to Saul. I was thrilled to watch Owen put his past behind him, lay his insecurities to rest and learn to stand on his own two feet.

Billy and Liam are amazing together. They compliment one another and complete one another and their story made me laugh, cry and want so much more.

I've been waiting for Chris, Liam, Owen and Billy's story and Jessie did not disappoint. As always, I highly recommend this book and this series.

The fab four get their story told and its totally cute

I wasn't sure going into this one just how it would work as they're not a foursome in the typical sexual fashion but it absolutely does.

The romances of Liam and Billy, Chris and Owen needed to be told at the same time because the four are so interlinked its impossible to separate them out.

I also wondered if this would get repetitive, one bit for one pair then on to the others but it's all seamlessly sewn together to bring focus on each of the men individually and in their intertwined pairs.

The friendships are just as strong as the sexual partnerships and the sense of family continues to bind all of them together.

3.5 stars for this one. I enjoy this series although I’ll admit it’s been a while since I read the previous books. There was a strong message of second chances in this story for both couples but heavens there was SO much going on ! Each character had issues, join them together with their brother / friend there were issues then join them with their romantic other half ... you guessed it - issues !
Yes they’re were resolved and the 4 guys were super tight and protective of each other so I understood the need to individualize then link but holy smokes you had to pay attention !

My brain is exhausted from trying to keep up with the adventures of our "fab four"!!! I think that I needed this book to answer some questions and to get a clearer picture of the guys as individuals... and now that those issues are cleared up, I am ready to move on to the next book! :D

Fantastic, worth the wait, amazing, sexy, overwhelming, a real tearjerker are only a few things I can say about this book. I LOVED IT. I have been waiting, what seems like forever, for MY Chris to have his story told. To me there is nothing more appealing than a seemingly broken man who turns everything around and finds his happiness and true love. For years Chris and Owen have been dancing around their feelings but it was never the right time to make the move to a relationship. When everything lined up for these two they came together in a powerful climax. Yep, pun intended but once you read this book you will get it.
Now to Liam and Billy, but before anyone says, "ewww" a foursome in this book, nope it is not a book about multiple partners. This book is about two separate couples that are connected by more than blood. Family does not always mean the same blood and these four men have learned that from each other. Even though I am a diehard Chris fan (and Saul- he's my second favorite now) I loved the story between Billy and Liam, like Chris and Owen they have been dancing around each other too long and finally with the darkness lifting in their lives they can be together.
At the end of every year I vote on my favorite books for the year, let me give you a preview...THIS book will be on that list. I will add this book to my re-read list because it is that amazing. I cannot wait to read more about Chris and Owen and am looking forward to their novella in 2016.

Favorite quotes from Safety in Numbers by Jessie G.
"Owen, I've never asked a guy to be my whole world before. How do I do that?"
"That was perfect," Owen whispered, completely stunned.

"Chris?" The shaky whisper drew his gaze up and he found those green eyes bright with emotion. "I wanted you from the first moment I saw you and I feel like I've loved you just as long. You make me believe that I can be the man I thought I was, the one you think you see, and I couldn't be that before now. You are what I am missing--my home, my heart, my strength, my whole world--and I want to be all those.
"You are all those things for me," Chris promised as he pulled back before joining them completely again. "I love you."
Owen cupped Chris's face to pull him down, and whispered, "Make me feel it."

*ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review

This is book five in the Sizzling Miami series which reveals the story of the freaky foursome, Chris, Liam, Billy and Owen. Throughout the series the reader has been fed little titbits of their interaction and leaving questions about their story. Just what was going on between them? Well here, at last, all is revealed and I was so thankful that it didn’t turn out to be a foursome romp. This is definitely a two for the price of one. Two HEAs? Oh yes!

Step Brothers Chris and Liam have been through so much in their lives and both are hiding the secret of their reason for their time in prison. Chris has always been the protector and has always remained silent since the incident that drove them to be in prison. His self-imposed silence has been a puzzle to all who come to interact with him but then something happens to trigger his ending his vow of silence.

Billy and Owen met whilst they were both in prison and it was from this time that Billy became Owen’s support and protector which has remained constant ever since.

Usually I am not a fan of shared HEA but after reading Safety in Numbers I totally get why it had to be done this way. All four main characters are so intertwined with each other, that it would be impossible to do as two separate books. It also gave the storyline the intensity and depth their histories needed to reveal the complexities of these four gorgeous but damaged men.

I have always loved Chris as I always fall for the strong and silent type so to see him and Owen finally sort out their shit and get it on was a winner for me. Owen was not a favourite of mine for most of the series but after fully understanding what this broken man had been though, made me want to hug him.

The revelation though was Billy. My Billy Bear. He was quickly established as the one I fell for. He was such a beautiful soul. The way he made sure he was right for Liam before taking the plunge was so special and when these two hooked up well the heat-o-meter went sky high!

The series would definitely need to be read in order before attempting to read this one. There are so many names, so many men and needing to know how they all fit into the storyline that the new reader would be lost. As a stalwart fan I still have to stop and remind myself who was who and what had happened in the previous books. It’s a series that definitely keeps you on your toes but one that is so glorious to throw yourself into. It almost makes you feel part of this special family of wonderful but damaged men who have fought so hard to become their true selves. Another great addition to the series. Four stars for the fabulous four!

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.75 stars

Safety in Numbers is the fifth book in Jessie G’s Sizzling Miami series and brings us the combined stories of Chris and Owen, and Liam and Billy. These guys have been introduced in prior books and slowly developing their relationships in the background. This story brings them to the forefront in an interconnected way, as suits these two couples. (Just to be clear, this is NOT a menage, but rather a story that focuses on two couples who are emotionally connected). Liam and Chris have been through so much together and have been protecting one another for years. Being involved in the death of Liam’s dad and the subsequent jail time just cemented it and they are determined to look out for one another. Billy and Owen were in jail together as well, and Billy always looked after Owen. So even though we get the developing romance for each couple, their stories are intertwined and fit well given their relationships.

I enjoyed this story and liked the format. I think the author does a nice job elaborating on the backstories for these guys, bringing more to what we already know and helping us to understand them. Although they are all in various states of emotional recovery, these are all men who have gone through a lot and are still fairly fragile. I could feel for them and think Jessie G develops them well individually, even as their stories connect together.

Enlightening and fulfilling

This was a really good story. We finally get to see the past events that shaped the characters of Billy, Owen, Chris and Liam. I didn't really expect Owen to still be having so many issues. I guess they weren't seen, since he lived alone for quite a while. It was a little slow going for a time, while they all finally progressed into a new mindset and the couples started connecting completely. I have to say, it felt a little like a letdown after the last couple of books. Nothing was real exciting or dramatic with this story. There were a few life events for Billy and Chris. We get to meet a few new outside family members. There's a new face in the garage, although we don't meet him. I guess this was more of a transitional story, wrapping up the relationships of some of the main characters we've met so far. There were very sweet, hopeful moments for all four of the guys. Ty is still around and there's a little bit of Bull and Red and a brief glimpse of Ric and Davin. Hopefully this is paving the way for more books, with new characters and I hope a couple we haven't seen much of. Maybe Jacky or Colin?

Beautiful, funny, heartbreaking and so damn honest. I swear I just sat here reading, sighing, laughing, smiling and crying and just wow.

The four friends/brothers/partners each came into their own throughout their book. I loved how I was pleasantly surprised by their behavior and actions, as well as even deeper invested in their lives. I never highlight in my books, but SiN is VERY lit up! Their words just spoke to me, all of them. Ty, Saul and Bull were lol funny and their words so poignant, but still in character.

Each book just gets better and better.
JG did an outstanding job giving them each their own story, HEA all the while making the fabric of their world so much more vibrant and more entwined with all the characters I already love. Le sigh.

I really enjoyed this book. It was heartwarming & hurtful, I cried a few times. Just hearing what the guys went through, my heart broke. But knowing now what they overcame & have a big family who loves them & they found their soul mates, made me smile big :) I love HEA's but I would love to read more about these guys because it seems like their story just started& it ended to soon. But overall, loved it!!

I'm a Jessie G. fan, but this story didn't work for me. It was more of a compilation of scenes than a full story. It was nice catching up with the Freaky Foursome and the rest of the misfits, though. Unfortunately, Safety in Numbers didn't measure up to the previous books in the series.

What a roller coaster this was - Chris, Liam, Owen and Billy. There was a lot of angst with this instalment but when you consider the content, it is no surprise. These four men have formed a tight bond and support each other completely. It's hard to review this book, so much is involved in this story.....you just need to read it. I really enjoyed this book.

Good Read

Another 5 stars for Jessie G. This was a good story building off of the 4th book( Their Reason ) in the series. I enjoy reading about all of the characters in the Sizzling Miami Series. Good Read.

Per me è ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Molte emozioni entrano in circolo, paura, amore, pazienza, speranza, insicurezza, passione.

So very beautiful. I think in this one the psychological aspect of dealing with the characters' issues was most pronounced, but very delicately done.

3 Heart Review by Amber

I honestly don’t know what happened here. This completely did not work for me and I’m so incredibly saddened by it. Keep in mind I’ve read and LOVED all of the Sizzling Heat books. You can read all my reviews at Love Bytes. And I’ve loved these 4 men since we first met them. I’ve been itching, dying, pacing and waiting for their stories and now that I’ve read them. I wish I hadn’t. I love angst, drama, sadness, pain, and all the feelings those encompass but this….I just don’t know. I was annoyed, a lot by how emotional they all were. Everything seemed like an emotional crisis or meltdown and I was exhausted.

And I know that’s unfair but I was annoyed and in being so felt absolutely no connection to the characters when in past books I had. If I had to narrow it down I liked Chris the best then Billy, Liam, and then Owen. There was a lot of talking about the past when I feel like that was pretty much covered in previous books. Yes, I think it should have been mentioned and probably recapped but this beat a dead horse then woke the dead horse back up and beat it to death again. And this happened throughout the story. This story didn’t leave me with a smile, just frustration and confusion.

A lot of this book is about Chris and Owen/Billy and Liam getting all of their issues hashed out and coming together as happy, healthy couples. Chris finally breaks his silence and Billy finally gets the nerve to talk with Chris about Liam. Owen is still a complete mess and Liam is goofy over Billy (Billy Bear I was not a fan of.)

Yes, I was happy these men finally found peace and happiness with their chosen partner. I think fans of the series like I am would want to read this especially since these 4 have been such a major part in the previous books. But this was not my favorite. Not even close and I’m on the fence as saying I may not have even really liked it but the past 4 books were all 4 and 5 stars for me so I am incredibly torn.

Overall, the writing was everything Jessie G does so well. I find no fault in that and like I said if you’re a fan you probably need to read this just to get the closure on these four.

Safety In Numbers-Book 5-Sizzling Miami Series by Jessie G!!!

This book is NOT a standalone, these MC’s have been regular and, at times, significant characters in past books since For a Reason.

Chris and Liam made a promise but they both had no idea of the impact that this promise would create. After 9 years together which is a bond that could never be broken or they thought! Billy and Owen have also made that promise but they were well aware of the impact it will make. They have endured so much together and nothing will ever come between them or will it?

This is not an easy review without giving away spoilers so I will do my best as I detest spoilers in reviews. This series was such an amazing read and this part 5 will just blow your mind away as it did to me. I loved that the author answered some burning questions for us in regards to the boys and OMG that was some intense and amazing reading. The author likes to tease you as you go through her brilliant series to beware lol. Expect the Unexpected!!!

I loved how the author brought us these guys, Chris and Liam, and Billy and Owen in the previous books. She slowly told their story in the background and now she brings their story to the front lines in this installment. That was some really creative and very detailed writing as I am sure it was not the easiest. Some people might think this story is an ménage but it not at all, its a story of very emotionally connected couples that are trying to survive in a difficult world. I really enjoyed the format to this series and story as I thought it was new and refreshing, I credit the author for keeping it well organized and easy to follow. Jessie G is a brilliant and gifted author and I highly recommend, Sizzling Miami Series and this installment...Safety In Numbers!!!
