And everyone in my small hometown has questions that I’m all too eager to avoid. It’s none of their business that my relationship imploded, that my ex-boyfriend cheated on me the entire time we were together, and that I have nowhere else to go.
That after three months, I’m back with my tail between my legs.
All I want to do is move in with my best friend, grieve the future I left behind, and try to get my life back on track.
But then I meet Wells. He’s kind and generous, and he likes me for me. Only I can’t trust my own feelings, or that giving my heart away won’t end with it shattered all over again.
Just as I’m healing from heartbreak and learning to trust someone new, I’m hit with another tragedy, one I never expected. And I don’t know how to deal.
My grief has me wanting to hide, to push everyone away, but even after everything, I’m determined to embrace life, the heartache and the joy, and all that comes with it.
What an incredible debut. A cozy small town romance but at the centre of it all a story of friendship and grief.

Loved the cozy vibes this book brought. The story really sets you up and connects you with the characters. Making it feel relatable and like home. It feels so familiar. The relationship between Birdie and Althaya is like all our dreams, to have a friendship like theirs in itself makes me yearn for it. Add in August and the found family just hits right.
Insert Wells, patient, prince charming an absolute green flag MMC annnddd he is a tradie who can cook and take charge. 👏🏻👏🏻 Althaya made him work for it, boy she was frustrating at the best of times but given her reason for starting over made perfect sense.
The story progresses and it just incredibly heartbreaking. You deal with family tension and unresolved issues, but underneathe it all is love. Dealing with the confrontation of grief in this book was done so well. I am not a big cryer and I had tears!! TEARS!!
I really enjoyed this, I did not expect to cry. If you want a heartwarming beginning, and also heartbreaking ending. Read it.

The book hit all the right tropes for me - found family, slow burn, small town & with a touch of whimsy too🥹
All of the characters were brilliantly written, with just enough backstory of the “background characters” included to mean you weren’t questioning why some of them were there which I often find in these types of stories.
I absolutely LOVED this book from start to finish, I didn’t realise it was a debut book at first but WOW, it’s set a precedent for any other books she chooses to write and I am so looking forward to them!
