Kissing #3

Texas Kissing

Rate this book
Staying single is how I stay alive-- it's rule #1 for hiding out. But now I've met Bull… and he doesn't follow rules.

Lily - To escape my uncle-- one of New York's most dangerous mob bosses-- I had to create a whole new life. I became an expert forger, fled to Texas and never let anyone get close to me again. I didn't figure on having my life saved by a huge, muscled cowboy. He's arrogant, stubborn and he's the local stud... so why is he interested in a curvy girl like me? And if he annoys me so much... why can't I stop fantasizing about him?

Bull - As soon as I saw her, I knew I had to have her. Lily had curves that didn't quit and too many goddamn secrets. Well, I was going to uncover every inch of her...

DNF

h keeps driving out to meet H and then runs away saying she can't afford to get involved. H also keeps comparing h to one of the girls he bangs. H is a huge manho and has hundreds of pics on FB with a different rodeo groupie each night.

These are H's thoughts few days after he met h and hit on her, oh and h's name is Lily:

*I received a free ARC of Texas Kissing from the author in exchange of an honest and unbiased review*

Texas Kissing is both sweet and filled with danger, Lily had been hiding from her mafia-boss uncle for two years, and everything was fine until she met Bull, the sexy, tall, muscular cowboy who saved her from a bull...

Dnf... I tried, I did. But this was a no!

So Lily is on the run and hiding from her monster of an uncle and Bull is a big-ass cowboy.

For someone that has been trying to stay low key, she sure has no issues about going back to Bull. I'm sick of authors writing about insecure females who are so hard-up for attention that they go against everything they've been working for. Just because a woman is thick and curvy shouldn't mean that she's insecure. So sick of this stereotype. And Bull is an absolute arrogant ass who only shows her the attention that he does because, apparently, she's the only woman to ever say no to him. That's how it comes off, he's baffled that she wants nothing to do with him so he continues to be an annoying stalker. All he wants is to get in her pants. He's aggressive and kind of crude about it every time they're together.

I really just didn't care for either characters. She's a moron and he's a dick... Not my cuppa.

** Received ARC in exchange for an honest review. **

Another great story by Helena Newbury! She never disappoints me. I love the way her mind works...how she takes stories and sends them into the most random directions...in such a GOOD way!! Ms. Newbury is so great at writing strong female leads, I enjoyed reading about Lily. It took me a little while to not want to smack Bull (arrogant describes him extremely well), but he eventually grew on me. All in all, I really enjoyed the story...disliking Bull in the beginning made it a little tough for me to get into, which is why this is four stars instead of five.

I listened to the audio book and the narration I would give 5 stars. Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers are great and I feel like they really brought the characters to life! I loved the characters, and the first half of this book really gripped me! I felt the small, and seemingly trivial, moments really helped my love for the characters grow.

I do have to say that this book was too long. Toward the second half of the book those small scenes became a bit of a bore to read. The story was rushed toward the end, and I found myself wanting the book to end.

Solid 3 stars.

fast paced

I’m all honesty, I struggled a bit with this story. I had a hard time liking Lily. And I REALLY dislike playboy heroes and Bull was just… gross.
But as the story progressed and we got to know the characters, they grew on me. And like ALL books by this author, the action and suspense pulled me in, so I couldn’t stop reading, even if I’d wanted to. And that ending. I’ve changed my mind about Lily AND Bull.

It was ok

Wasn’t as much a suspense book as I was hoping for. It was more suspense-lite if that makes sense. Had a hard time warming up to the MCs. Not sure if I will read more in the series.

Reading the reviews Bull gets a really bad rap from reviewers. Yes, he was a manwhore before he met Lily, and yes he does THINK about other girls the first few days after they have met but before anything happens, but NOTHING has happened between them, so I struggle to be hard on him for that. Yes, he had descriptive thoughts about Kristen, but right after he also knew that she would be nothing compared to Lily and that Kristen did not interest him. THERE IS NO CHEATING in this story.

I did get a little tired of Lily's self-deprecating. That got old and while I can understand your thoughts being stuck on that issue, as a reader I got tired of hearing her attitudes about it.

The ending: This happened in Punching and kissing as well. The story ends very abruptly just as the main drama finishes, as in like seconds before they were dealing with the baddies and then they kiss and the end. It just feels sudden, I never expect it. At the very least she has an "epilogue" but really feels like the next chapter and probably should be set up that way rather than a epilogue b/c rather than most (or what you'd assume an epilogue should be) epilogues, there is hardly any time between the end and the epilogue (I've used that word a lot in this paragraph). It could be just a few hours that have pasted. She does wrap things up nicely but it is almost like she does not want to have to deal with that part of the story. She has so much in the lead up and actual action part of the story and then just wants to get the end bit over as fast as possible. So that would be a down fall of this author for me. We all want that HEA but I'd like to see them actually enjoy it a bit before the story ends.

Note: there is a connection between this one and Lying and Kissing, Luka is mentioned, so that was exciting. And I am wondering who Bull's brother is that has the privet jet. This is my first series from this author, so I'm not sure if his brother is in another "series"

If you like steam and good sex scenes this is the best Newbury book for you.
I was really looking forward to this book as the characters had been being introduced in a previous one and I was excited to get to know them. However unfortunately it fell a little flat for me.
Sex scenes aside, I thought the rest of the story was rushed, it went from 0 to sex really quickly and then didn’t stop. And the action/thriller part I’ve come to expect from every story was a little flat too in my opinion.
Still an enjoyable read but certainly not a top spot contender for me

Author NotesAs with all my "Kissing" books, this is a standalone and you don't need to have read any of my other books to enjoy it. After the fairly dark Punching and Kissing I thought we could all use something lighter, so this has more comedy and steam alongside the romance and action. The ebook is out on Friday August 28th.

l really wanted to give this 3 stars, because I liked the hero Bull and their scenes together but I just couldn't do it. The majority of the book is awful, seriously, tediously, mind numbingly boring mafia drama, and a seriously too stupid to live heroine.

Lily escapes her mafia, head of the family, uncle, and swears to live a loner life so she doesn't get anyone killed, the way she got her best friend killed. She's supppsedly trying to stay under the radar but makes fake ID's for every criminal outfit, except the mafia? Really? The hero found her by simply asking around town, the FBI tracked her by a photo taken of her and the hero om a date and posted in a newspaper.

The fact she's working with criminals who could have links to her uncle, those are only a few of the ways her uncle and his henchmen could find her and kill Bull, the man she loves, ways which she keeps stupidly ignoring, is in a word, stupid. I don't know if the author wrote her heroine as deliberately completely stupid, or if the author herself just didn't think about the fact that criminals are all linked on some level and eventually could hear about her, a brilliant forger, or the fact the photo was out there to be seen etc, but whatever the reason, so much of this it was so stupid.

Including the heroine arranging to meet a new criminal client she knows nothing about and turns out to be a German sex trafficker of young women, who clearly has no issue taking her for her forging skills which he needs, but no, instead the author has this very dangerous, very callous, deadly criminal just leave and not come back armed to the teeth with more men, or even look for her in that small town, which would take him oh, five minutes to find her, all because Bull is a big guy? Awful rubbish!

Not to even mention the fact the heroine didn't bring a gun or have any kind of plan in place to protect herself and get herself out if the situation she'd put herself in turned bad. This list of stupid went on with the author's scenes and this one is why I gave up, the heroine backs her bus, her life saving, escape plan bus, up against a tree, so all the bad guy has to do to trap her is park his car in front of the bus to trap her between his car and the tree?! Seriously?! I just couldn't read anymore of the stupidity after that.

Not only that but hello, she's in a bus, she could just drive forward and that would push the car out of the way, or here's an idea, don't be so stupid to trap yourself in the first place by parking the bus with its ass up to a tree, for two years! And not once in those two years think, oh, that big tree at the ass of my bus will stop me from being able to reverse the bus to escape!.Just too stupid!

I could have enjoyed this mich more as a quick, easy read about a woman wanting to get studded by the big cowboy stud, because she thinks he's so big and hot, even if their during first date he was surrounded by his own harem of willing females, he's a sexy guy., so if she wanted a quickie with the cowboy stud, then sure, go for it. No issue there. If it turned into more when they got to know each other, again, all good, and I didn’t even mind the cliched troupe of a heavier girl, having some insecurities about her weight, but I hated, and was irritated and bored by the completely tedious mafia stuff, and the too stupid to live heroine.

I was even irritated by things like when how she called Bull a sexiest, who believed women's only place was in the home, when he never once even hinted at thinkiimg that way, he was only upset because she was putting herself in danger working with drug lords and cartel members and russian mafia etc. So that was just random stupid.

So even though though I liked Bull, and some of their scenes together, unfortunately all the tedious mafia drama you had to dig through and all the stupid thoughts and actions of the heroine you had to read to get to the too few romance scenes, was just too much. Then the romance itself was a dragged out too much tedious tease of "I want to be with him but I can't be with him" again because of the boring mafia stuff and the too stupid heroine.

The sex scenes were also too long, which made them repetitive because the author kept repeating the characters making the sane movements and she used the same words and phrases repeatedly three and four times in the one scene. So unfortunately I can only give 2 stars. I really wanted to give 3, to up my average star rating, because I hate that I seem to be stuck in some unending line of poorly written and boring 1 amd 2 star books after the other.

This is my first Helena Newbury book.
I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed it.
This is an insta-lust kind of book because once Bull sees Lily he wants her and there is no letting her go.
Lily is on the run from her uncle she witnessed him murder someone and she had to escape from being under his rules.
She has been hiding in Texas for 2 years she set up her own buisness, but its not a legal buisness but it made her alot of money.
She is an expert hacker and forger and works for some bad men..It was while meeting with a client that she first sees Bull.
Bull is an arrogant self confident cowboy,he knows he could have any woman he wants and is not ashamed of the conquests he has had in the past.
Lily intrigues him because she seems immune to his charms, but she is not immune she just can't be involved with anyone because she is on the run and needs to stay hidden.
..But yes you guessed it their attraction can't be tamed and they can't resist eachother...But Lily is in more danger than she realises.
Bull falls hard and fast what will happen whe he finds out who Lily really is.
I enjoyed listening to this story Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers are fabulous narrating this book,I absolutely love Christian Fox so I would listen to anything he narrates.
They are both Excllent.
This is a steamy little read and I like Helena's writing.
great listen.

I listened to this book in audiobook format.

From the very beginning of this story I was annoyed with everything. Mainly with the characters but also with the story. The whole entire conscept of this book didn't sit well with me. Yeah, Lily escaping from her uncle and hiding from him sounded interesting but the way the author set out this story seemed kind of... silly. For example Lily just having a "bussiness" with selling fake documents was very unrealistic. Secondly, her being very carrefull with people but suddenly changing that after meeting Bull, big, strong man who also seems to be VERY close with the ladies (ALL the ladies there are it seems) was ridiculous. Speaking of Bull, who is normally having a girl for only one night (or some other period of time) is suddenly so infatuated with Lily gave me very insta-love vibes. And well, like everyone I'm not a fan of that. Overall, I'm just so over stories that portray female character firstly as incesure and reserved and all of a sudden willing to esentially risk her life because a hot guy noticed her (because he has to have her as she's the only one who ever dared to say him no). Also, some scenes were so over the top and ridiculous I couldn't handle it (of course while you're pretty much running for your life you're gonna stop at a hotel just to have sex). I can't even count many times I rolled my eyes while listening to this book.

*This review is based on the audiobook Texas Kissing by Helena Newbury, narrated by Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers*

Lily is on the run from her mob boss uncle, and doing a piss poor job at it. Why would you start a business forging id’s for criminals, drug cartels, and arms dealers? You don’t think he would find you? Especially if you get a library card using your cell phone! If a hot cowboy can find you, so can your uncle.

I couldn’t get into the characters. I felt no connection between them. Their insta lust and automatically wanting a relationship was extremely unrealistic. I’m sorry, but I don’t believe a manwhore would immediately give up his promiscuous ways just from meeting someone one or two times.

The sex scenes, as many as there were, bored me. The story line, and characters bored me. The only thing that I did like about the story was Christian Fox’s and Lucy River’s narration.

Frustrating.
I couldn’t read past the chapter where the heroine justifies and is actually proud of her ‘career’ choice, and is offended that the guy doesn’t support illegal actions like that and therefore he *must* be sexist.
I can understand doing what you must to survive or just not having a moral code that strong - fine with me, because it can make the story more interesting. However, being proud of making counterfeit documents for drug lords and illegal arms dealers, but ‘having’ a moral code when it comes to human trafficking, like drug cartels didn’t hurt women and children (maybe the heroine is just THAT dumb), is incomprehensible.
The guy is a normal person for judging her values, not a sexist.
If you make the heroine do dubious things then at least don’t try to make it ok to forge IDs for people who terrorize and murder people in their communities.

2 1/2*

There were several times I wanted to stop reading this book, but needed to see where it would go. The most unlikable characters I’ve suffered through in a long time.

Lily has lived through a horrendous time with her mafia uncle, who she watched poison her best friend. She disappeared for over 2 years and met Bull when he saved her from a bull. He decides he wants to have sex with her and doesn’t have a clue why she’s not on her back for him! WHAT?! And because she said No he falls in love with her?! And she can’t stay away from him even though he’s constantly obnoxious.

There’s never a moment when it makes sense that they fell in love. His speech makes him sound like a moron. And as an off the books career — she creates fake passports and identities for drug cartels! Seriously?!

Not a likable couple.

Lily is living a solitary life in small town Texas. She’s a highly skilled computer hacker, who sells fake passports & IDs to arms dealers & the Mexican cartel. Lily has a good reason for laying low and off the grid...the NY mafia is after her. Bull is a ranch hand and bull rider. He rescues Lily when she wonders into a bull’s holding area. The attraction between the two is immediate. Lily doesn’t want to get close to anyone due to her tragic past. Bull wears down her resistance and the pair begin dating. Buuut...just when things seem to be going well...Lily’s past catches ip with her! Bad guys, guns and lots of smexy times make for a great book.

A great read

This is a story of world's colliding - a simple, uncomplicated Texan cowboy and an Italian mafia princess on the run. It shouldn't work, but it does. Physical attraction leads to something deeper, although Lily is keeping her deepest secret from Bull in order to protect him. When her past catches up with her, Lily is forced to make a choice - keep running or face the music.

I enjoyed this book enormously. I really like Helena Newbury's style of writing, the way she builds the plot, describes the characters and delivers a great ending. A great read.

Texas Kissing

My first time to read Helen Newbury's writings. Lily running from her Uncle a big moffia Don. Trying to stay out of sight and running her own illegal business making phony identification for drug lords etc. Living on a bus far in the country on a farm. And Bull a great big drop dead gorgeous hunk of a cowboy that every girl in town wants. Lily knows she can't make friends let alone a boy friend, but she can't seem to help herself. Not exciting enough for me. But I will read another of this author's books to see if maybe it was just this story.

From Audible Account Review:

"You know why they call me Bull?"

This story had a lot of giggle worthy moments. All of Bull's personality was beguiling. Lily's self doubt and inner struggles were irritating at times but definitely gave insight to her behavior.

I wasn't a fan of Lucy's voice for Bull but otherwise loved the performance. Christian performed excellently and oozed Bull's personality with ease.

I also loved the little crossover from Lying and Kissing and Lily's response to Arianna.

Overall a fun and steamy story.

gross MMC

I honestly do not see how anyone can find Bull attractive. He comes across as gross and slimy. I started cringing when he described her body and then got pissed that she wouldn’t give him a BJ for saving her life. Then he talks her into a date and when he’s late, she finds he’s been there the whole time surrounded by a crowd of girls with two sitting on his lap. And then he wonders why she tries to leave! Come on, girl, have some self respect, this guy is disgusting. DNF at 10%.

Definitely Bull Riding!!

Bull and Lily's story was a very pleasant surprise. He was definitely a cowboy playboy. Even when he saves the crazy woman who placed herself in a very harmful position with a bull. Lily has been in hiding in Texas for two years and does not venture out much because of her situation. She has to accept a meeting for a drink as a thank you to the handsome cowboy who saved her life. Little did she know that her best laid out plans would change with this stubborn hunk of man!

Running away

Bull is a cowboy from texas in all ways, he is a womans man loves sex, hard work and beer. But one day he saved a woman named lily and from moment one she was his exept for 1 minor detail. Lily was running from her past and could afford to get attached to anyone for the fear of everyone's life. Her uncle the one that raised her was the mafia in new York., and has no problem killing anyone getting in the way of their family business..

Now I want a cowboy of my own

I loved the write up for this book. Lily was a well written character. I loved her sass and determination to stay safe and hidden from the family she ran from. Meeting Bull threw that all into chaos. I loved his simple outlook on life, his cocky attitude just added to the humour of their relationship. Plot line is great mixing mafia and country. Will definitely read more of Helen's books

Rounded down for one reason alone. And that reason is the leading man's name. SPOILER ALERT
It's not a nickname. and that kinda ruined this for me. IDK why I care so much about the dude's name. Also he was a little too full on at time. In a sort of aggressive way, which was a disservice to his character overall. This honestly would've made the full 5* otherwise - plus size leading lady, all the drama without getting OTT, and an insta love that I didn't roll my eyes at!
