A standalone prequel novella to the Toothsucker saga.
Awoken with sentience he never asked for, an octopus is given a humanoid body and an assignment to kill a popstar.
Blue-Ringed Octopoid Homunculus AKA B.R.O.H. never wanted a life outside of the reef. When human rivalries between entertainment corporations demand a novel solution to enact revenge, a hidden organization builds the next stage in cephalopod evolution that should have never been allowed to happen.
Placed in a feud he doesn't understand and subject to the failings of human morality, B.R.O.H. must adapt or die for failing one of the greatest shadow powers in a cyberpunk future. As his sentience grows, he can't help but pick at the flaws of human greed that lead him to question the very purpose of his creation.
The future is a cruel ocean where only the predators thrive.
If you told me my favorite written character of 2026 was going to be an Octopus I would have never believed you. Once again Kaden shows just how well he can do characters. I was so invested in this story and wished it never ended. There is so much packed into such a small book. This story has everything any fan of cyberpunk or sci fi could ask for and a must read. Its a great intro to the Toothsucker saga. This is the ultimate what it means to be human story.
What if I wrote a story about an octopus forced into sentience then he has to kill a pop idol that he kinda has the hots for? I just did that in my cyberpunk world about tooth-eating vampires. Enjoy
A wonderful addition to the Tooth Sucker universe, here we take a dive into the mind of an octopus given human level sentence and ponder the many ethical and philosophical questions that follow such a creature. I never thought I'd relate to octopus so much, but as the book went on, I found myself understanding him more and more, relating to my early childhood when I was first learning how the world works. I'd recommend any sci-fi fan to pick this up as an introduction to the series, or Kaden's writing in general as he smashed it out of the park with this one!
Metamorphosis, kindness and human greed -- great topics explored in an awesome cyberpunk adventure 😍 Novellas usually don't grip me, but this one totally did!
