I felt the need to explain my dislike for this since it appears to have been semi unique to date.
Bottom line as spoiler free as possible - This conclusion doesn't resolve anything, and I loathe that in a series. I read a series for escapism, leaving the end to my imagination isn't a thought provoking and clever way to wrap things up, it just makes me feel like I wasted my time.
I wouldn't have invested the emotional energy and time if it was all going to end like that. There's a reason I only read certain genres - to escape reality, depression, and hopelessness that too often accompanies real life! When I read books, I'm looking forward to that happy ending. This series didn't have to end this way; not a single character got a happy ending. Such a shame.
I gave it two stars because the book was riveting and exciting up until the last 4%.
Having read the first three books I was keen to finish the series and learn the secrets of the promise, who HE is and why he rules in the way he does. I enjoyed getting to the end but did feel a little cheated at the way it ended, and by the authors own admission, the ending wasn't designed to be popular. I'm glad I read the series and would read more of Forbes' books going forward.
I think this may be my favorite series of this author. I spent all four books trying to figure out the end game, clapping when I got pieces right and whooping when he surprised me yet again. It may not end the way you expect, but it ended the way it needed to. This author has written one of the best tragedies I've read in a couple of decades. I highly recommend this and ALL of his other work. Kudos to you, sir.
I'm torn between giving a high rating because I enjoyed this last book, and a lower rating because I also disliked this last book. This final in the series seemed rushed compared to the others. I was still completely hooked but it lacked something the others had. The ending was very abrupt and had me puzzling over a number of loose threads.
Worst ending ever. All common sense fled from the mind of the author.
I gave this one star because while the plot started out great it comes to a grinding halt at the end. It was one of the most dumbest mind boggling conclusion in a book. He should have just killed off all the characters and be done with it.
This was a fantastic book and I would recommend it to almost anyone. I enjoyed the ending, even if it was a little strange, and loved the whole series. I hope to read more like this.
This is an interesting conclusion to the series. We find out what the promise is, who HE is (it is not a he), who Work really is, and Eryn's fate. In some ways the ending is not very satisfying, and in other ways, we should have seen it coming.
While enjoyed the book, frustrated with the end of the series. I understand the authors logic, but just think they could have worked a different solution.
One needs faith to face the uncertain path that the future holds for each and every one of us. Tomorrow is always tomorrow and yesterday will always be the past. Great story.
This book continued the story nicely with the same quality of writing, however I found myself bored through some of it as there was a lot repetition of the plot line and repetition of character story arcs. However the end was.... interesting, I did not love it but I understood why it ended that way.
Although the series was great, I loved the characters, this can't be how it all ends, I refuse to believe that another way wasn't found. There was so much darkness in this book, I really thought good would triumph in the end. Such a depressing ending.
I guest it correctly, but kept saying it should be wrong, there's no what that He could do so much sufferings, but it got clear after a fashion.
The climax of reaching the end could make me give it a 4, but the ending wasn't satisfactory, and kind of felt forced, I don't know if Forbes had this in mind or was forced in to it.
It's still more realistic that Darren Shan's books where they wipe the memories or build the world anew or anything with a total happy ending. I am OK with a partial one.
I was so enraptured with this book that I could not put it down. Watching how the characters were separated but joining to the end was so much more than I expected.
The twists and turns about made me dizzy. Tough at one point I did kind of know who it was the why part I did not know.
I don't want to spoil the end for anyone so I will not even give a hint. I will only say how much I have enjoyed this series and would recommend it to anyone.
There is so much of other writers work in these books that it seems that they are a conglomeration of a number of other works. None of it seems original. Not sure if I will read any more of this writers works. Though I do admire him for self publishing.
I was intrigued by the full story. I am not giving any clues as to what the book is. I was engaged all the way through the story, and all I would say is didn't expect the ending I got. It may not have been the best ending from some points of view but I would strongly recommend that you persevere and you might learn.
There are so many wording errors, meaningless chapter breaks, and typographical errors that it makes the book unreadable. Plus tons of whimsical changes in the story that all get explained away in a couple of pages. I also believe the ending shows a lack of work and thought on the author's part, some may think it's wonderful and relevant, I don't.
This was the final book in this series. Eryn has moved on emotionally to her captor. Talon funds out there now he didn't really want to remember, and the series ends on a somewhat low note.
Love is a journey. To love and to lust...being able to decipher which is which. We all do things in the name of love...this series shows that love has no bounds.
I enjoyed this series immensely and although the author explains her ending after the last page, I was a little disappointed with where she left things. No spoilers here. It's a fantastic journey full of heroes, magic and love and I highly recommend it to everyone.
What's waste of time. Four books and then an ending negating every word of the whole story. Awful. Endings don't have to be happy, but they shouldn't flush the whole series down the crapper, either.
A terrific ending to an excellent fantasy series. Too many people are complaining about the ending. For me, it was poetic unexpected but the way it should be.
Wow, the final book will have you on the edge of your seat. Although I finished this days ago, I keep thinking back to this final story! I loved it one of my favorite!
