From bestselling author Darby Briar comes a dark, scorching biker romance that plunges you deep into the gritty, unforgiving world of the Harbingers of Chaos motorcycle club.

This story isn’t for the faint-hearted—or for anyone who thinks they’ll simply read a few chapters and go to bed. It’s an up-all-night, soul-searing ride of sin and salvation. A brazenly sexy tale of a sinner and a saint who must fight through hell to claim each other.

This book explores dark themes. Please heed the trigger warnings before reading. Your mental health matters.

They warned me that the very sight of me would incite a side of Maverick I would want to flee in fear of. But I had no place else to go. My only option was to brave his wrath to survive.

His darkness reaches into me, pulling at something raw, something I don’t understand. With every word he slays me, his every touch burns along my skin. He breaks down my walls, igniting my fiery temper all the while laying bare desires I was never meant to feel, much less act on.

Beneath the fire and fury, I glimpse the cracks in his armor and the man he’s desperately trying to hide. But the longer I stay, the harder it is to tell where my survival ends and his begins.

To want him is to risk everything—to give him my heart is to risk the last thing I’m holding on to with a deadly grip: my life. The only way to survive may be to surrender to the fire, let it consume me, and pray I come out the other side.

Now this is what I call a true MC book! Raw. Dark. Gritty. Intense. Dramatic. Realistic. No sugarcoating.

It’s been a long time since I read a book that was so real. It shows us in a realistic way that relationships between the brothers in a MC club aren't always rainbows and unicorns.

The first half of the book is better than the second half. I loved every second of it. Every movement, every sound, every word carries weight and intensity. However, there is a slight change in the atmosphere and the flow of the story around the middle of the book. The story starts to drag a bit.

This is one of those books you either love or hate. I still think it's a must read for all MC lovers.

I have mixed feelings regarding this one. At times, I really found myself invested in Ember and her story, and at others I was a bit bored, or annoyed because there seemed to be so much going on. Sometimes less is more, I wish the author wouldn't have thrown so many things at me. Dirty blackmailing cops, rival gangs with few too many hidden relations, psychotic ex's, clingy biker hoes, etc.

description

I guess maybe the author was just trying to set up for future books in the series, but I felt overwhelmed. At the same time, I found myself liking a lot of the side characters, so I will probably try to stick with this series. Overall, there were things I liked, and things I could have done without - so, yeah, I have mixed feelings. I'm also going on little sleep and a diet of allergy pills and coffee, so my opinion probably isn't the most trust worthy at the moment.

Gah this has been getting boomeranged ALL over FACEBOOK!! It was a wants badly book, happy dance seeing it on my kindle!!

NOTE FROM AUTHOR: This is a biker romance and as such it contains no princes, unicorns or rainbows.

I think everyone knows that the BIKER GENRE is my all time favourite, add in dark and gritty and I'm definitely in my happy place!!

A woman on the run

I pray I've given myself enough time to get out of the city.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

A near rape has Ember feeling unsafe in the safe house she's sought shelter in..

Thirty-eight days on the street, and I’ve been reasonably safe. But I don’t feel safe here, not any more.

I've read craploads of biker books and I do mean craploads, this story is really unique with likeable characters..

Just when you think (Ember) has been given a break in her crappy life after escaping an abusive relationship she's jumped from one fire into the frying pan, a near rape, then when corrupted cop (Davis) recognises her he makes a deal with her, either do what he says or he'll turn her in, now she's in the thick of things with a notorious biker gang and the hot as sin leader (Maverick) with more hang ups than a female on crack..

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

God . . . Have I fled from one monster, only to land in the lair of the devil?

If I don’t give Davis what he wants, I’ll be hurting myself and my chances at freedom. If I snitch on the club, I'll be putting myself in danger and screwing over Lil’ Bird, Goose, Dozer, and the club.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I’m not a stranger to motorcycle clubs. They’re like the poster boys for the seven deadly sins.

I didn’t run from one jailer just to find another.

Like Lucifer, his presence is rife with malevolence. The very image of him screams DANGER. He's utterly tempting, a delicious looking bad - boy in leather and a vision of sin in the best of ways. A stealer of HEARTS and SOULS.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Lucifer’s greedy and impatient. He tried to play God to get what he wanted. He was always too dark to live among saints, but not satisfied living among sinners. He still thinks he deserves his little slice of heaven though he’s an evil son of a bitch who hurts innocent people.

Such an easy book to get into, I know all lovers of the biker genre will love this!! You get a strong connection with Maverick and Ember, even though Maverick comes across like a hardened cave man alpha dropkick with his rough talking shit he's alot deeper than he appears at first..

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

What I've enjoyed the most about this is its slow moving storyline which gives you a deeper connection with the characters, there's no Insta love here either..it's basically Insta hate..I loved Embers sharp red headed witted tongue and the men that loved and protected her, a real refreshing biker read..Most biker books jump straight into the dark and grit and this is what makes this stand out..

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This kept my eyes and my attention throughout, once I started this I got so absorbed in the story I pretty much ignored life until this baby was finished..I can not wait to see what the next book has install for us..

MAN I KEEP SAYING THAT TO ME WHEN IN DOUBT READ A MOTORCYCLE CLUB ROMANCE !!!!!!!! Honestly it never fails me. Motorcycle Club romances mostly gives me what I crave, the unhinged MMC, the dark themes, the obsessive protective violent MMC, the brotherhood of the club, the FMC that needs to learn to navigate all of that crazy new world with things we don’t see in “normal places” because bikers live in their own world.
If you can I will suggest you to listen to this one because the audiobook is great, the MMC voice is 🔥🥵 and it makes your listening experience better.
This story is about Maverick and Amber aka Mave and Doll.
What can go wrong when this fiery gorgeous 22yr old red head is literally running for her life from a bad abusive relationship and she manages to get in a even bigger mess when a dirty cop wants her to act as a spy or he will arrest her and than she ends up in a biker club where the President literally can’t even look at her face with all the hate he has inside because she is the spitting image of his ex who left him so broken hearted that his been living as a dark shadow for 5 years? What can go wrong right?
This book had me cheering for Amber with everything I got and actually wanting to punch Mave most of the times but also not because since it’s dual POV we see how much he is struggling with his feelings for her and how hard it is for him to trust again when he was betrayed in the worst way by his ex who again is a carbon copy of Amber. So the struggle is REAL.
The tension, angst, longing, secret feelings, jealousy and anger/love between these 2 is PALPABLE and delicious. This book is not as spice as bikers romances normally are but still good spice in it . Now I’m foaming at the mouth for Lily and Goose’s story and I hope we get a long series with books for all the characters because DOZZER AND BETHANY ARE THE ONES I REALLY NEED TO READ ABOUT IT !!!!!!!! His been pining and waiting 14 years for her….. Gee talk about love. But yep, if you like Motorcycle Club romance definitely read this one. It’s just not 5⭐️ because I wanted Mave to grovel more and suffer more. I see how unforgiving I am towards man because honestly I wouldn’t forgive him so easily like she did. He is GREAT, don’t get me wrong, he deserves her and the love, he just needed to suffer a little more for treating her the way he did.

4.5 Mav Stars.

Firstly, let me start off with, the bad assness of the freaking cover. Before I even read the blurb, I was drooling. Ok, so after composing myself, I got giddy when I got my ARC. Totally jumped up and down. My girls thought they were getting a present, so they started jumping with me also. Only to their dismay. So mommy made an ice cream stop to appease them. All was set right with the Hirst household once again. lol.

Burning Ember is one of those books that you know, off the bat will be yummy! From the start, I was enthralled and captivated till the last page. And, I still wanted more Mav and Em. But hey, can't wait for Ivy to turn Taz's world upside down, in Book 2.

Ember is a woman on the run. Maverick's devastated by a past marked with guilt, betrayal and tragedy. Neither would ever have imagined their lives would change because of circumstance.

Ember has endured a life of trials and tribulations. Fending for herself and her family from a young age. Working various low paying jobs, in order to pay the bills and survive. When a young man, with gentle breeding and who is living the fine life, shows her interest, she soon gets caught up in the fairy tale life. Under his thumb, Ember slowly leaves all that was her past behind her. Allowing herself to be solely dedicated to her relationship and her boyfriend. Soon, Ember learns that not all fairytales have a happy ending. Now... she is on the run. Running from him... from her past. Living under the rule of an abusive tyrant, she escapes her boyfriend's vicious hold. Emotionally and physically scarred, scared of the pending outcome once found. Living on the streets and drifting through shelters. Em keeps her head down, while trying to figure out how to earn money. After exhausting all possible avenues, to no avail, she steels herself towards the inevitable, prostitution. An angel in the form of a sassy, vivacious, young woman, with kind and sympathetic eyes, understands her dilemma and decides to take her in. What Ember doesn't know, is that she'll be walking into the Devil's den. Frivolity, promiscuity, voyeurism and unleashed inhibitions. All surrounding a brotherhood of bikers.

In the midst of this offer, Officer Davies, a crooked cop, has unexpectedly identified Ember as the missing woman, whose face is splashed all over the news. In return for not turning Ember over to the police, or worst her boyfriend. He gives Ember an ultimatum. Either she gets viable and incriminating information against the MC or she will be facing her own hell once turned over to the authorities. Her scars - visible and invisible - make her wary, cautious, and untrusting of everyone. So now, it's simply survival of the fittest.

Maverick Gunn's past haunts his present and incinerates any chance of a future he could have. Upon seeing Ember's Red hair, he's instantly transported back to the past. His pain and misery. His loss. Five long gruesome years, he relives it all through the hazed pain of the seeing the red hair. His ex, Dana, became his undoing. She betrayed him and his club. She crushed his soul and spirit. He became a harden, mercurial bastard. He's such an enigma. Savvy and artistic business man. Owner of his own design and construction company, and hard edged biker by night. Sargent at arms to the HOC's. Holding down the forth until his club brother is released from jail.

Meeting Maverick was a shock to Ember's system. He was dark and broody, yet, sinfully sexy. Ember couldn't help but notice his physique and the dark aura emanating from him.

This place isn't the place for you Doll. I won't be the fool who tries to fix you. I've already had my fair share of suicidal junkies. Maybe if I still had a heart, but mine was ripped out a long time ago. We're ruined, you and I, and there's no fixing what's utterly broken.

These two were such wonderfully broken and tragic characters to read about. The sexual tension and the air around them was combustible. The way they danced around each other. Sly looks, heated glances, jealousy and intense arousal. I especially enjoyed the frisking of Ember. Mav did a super job of getting my undies all twisted.

The road these two travel isn't filled with daisies and sunshine. It's raw, gritty, brutal and undulating fear, guilt and pain. Every minute of the story we've captivated and enthralled. The plot thickens, and secrets from Ember's past are revealed, that affects the club, and their enemies come knocking. Maverick comes to terms with his brutal past, but a part of him will forever be lost to those excruciating circumstances.

Darby Briar captured me instantly and I am an avid fan. Expect me to start bombarding you soon DB.

Ok so I am going to start off with.. Yes after meeting the heroine the hero does have sex with someone else and its not fade to black.

Ok with that said the story started out interesting. Ember (the heroine of the book) is escaping an abusive relationship, she tried to fake her death but that didn't work out. So shes in hiding. Ember finds a friend (Lily, one of the motorcycle guys old lady) who takes her to a Motorcycle club to see if maybe this life might work for her or at least give her a place to stay for a bit so Ember can get her life straightened out. Things don't go as planned, Mav ( the hero of the story and sorta president) had a bad relationship some 5 years ago (which he cant let go of) and so happens Ember looks similar to her (red hair i guess). Dozer (Vice President of the group) sides with Ember so she can stay at the club on a trial basis. Mav is pissed, he wants her gone, he is a jack ass to her, mean, almost kills her, but he has the hots for her at the same time...

So what does he do? Oh you know has sex with one of the club whores because he is trying to get her out of his mind. (pfft)

Ember has the hots for him. He treats her like shit, she just takes it, even see's him having sex with another. And an incident that happens (one of the guys pets is lost which happens to be a spider, which mav is scared of which so happens to be in his bed so he asks Ember to come and get it) has her in Mavs room while he has another whore tied to his bed and naked. I wanted to slap Ember. Why cant the woman in these kinds of stories have some self respect.

Ok so after they both realize they both want each other, the author tries to rectify the hero. Ugh. I suppose towards the end he was ok.

Also there is a rape scene. The heroine get abused and raped. Not by the hero and its not fade to black.

I swear I don't know why I read some of the motorcycle books, I always end up with the ones that the hero is f'ing other people, One of the dudes in this story is actually married with kids and he is cheating on her with all kinds of girls at the "club". But the author makes him out to be funny, charming, and cute. F'ing sleaze ass.

Some of the characters did peak my interest, Taz and Ivy. I would of added Dozer but.. (up until he f'ed a girl on the pool table in front of everyone cause he also had the hots for Ember and wanted to make her jealous? show he had a satisfying dick?) But I have a feeling that it will be f*ck fest 2000, cheat-a-thon, etc etc.

This is just my opinion. This book does have a lot of good reviews.

I randomly found the audiobook, saw the pretty new updated cover with the polaroid photos, and said "why not give it a try?".

The first half was sooo good, the second lost a bit of steam and I found a few things very silly. Like for example, at the start a cop realises who she is, and threatens her he'll have her arrested unless if she snitches for him. So Ember gets to the clubhouse, and just lives her life as if there's no looming threat in the background.

For the majority of the book, she doesn't give Davis (I think that's his name, man showed up like three times, it's no wonder I can't remember) a second thought, it all revolves around how she wants Mav, but shouldn't and vice versa.

Now Mav, Mav Mav Mav. I...don't mind him, let's put it that way. Dozer is clearly the CORRECT choice and the two of them had so much chemistry that the author kept trying to deny (with Ember literally telling Dozer "we have no chemistry" BUT IT'S LEAPING OFF THE PAGE HELLO???).

I know Dozer has someone he likes aside from Ember, and maybe I'll dig her if they eventually get their own story, but yeah, the book definitely went downhill for me when Ember and Mav got together.

And the thing is, they're not bad together, it's just not what it could've been. Also, there was no grovelling, Ember easily forgave Mav for everything he did every single time.

To circle back to Mr Cop, there was zero tension there, you realise early on that he's not going to press her for information EVER (and good thing for Ember, because the bikers discussed business maybe once in front of her). That was the biggest plot hole to me. Why was he even included if he wasn't going to be used in some way? He appeared at the end, sure, but that's it.

Then there's the real villain who gets offed as soon as he appears basically, and obviously I'm glad, but it felt too fast.

So, it wasn't a flawless book, but I would give book two a chance anyway.

Spoiler's ahead. Proceed with caution.

Burning Ember started out okay, with a great prologue, great plot, but it all went down to hill for me when Mav tried to slit Ember's throat. And then it got worst when Ember easily forgave him. Only because he's hot. How about no?

It's so OOC for me. Ember's lived a hard life. She was sexually and physically abused most of her life. It didn't make sense to me that she would easily forgive Mav for almost killing her.

The author tried so hard ro redeem Mav, we got see his point and view and all but no. Some things don't have an undo button. His distrust and hatred might be his character flaws but the second he screwed up by hurting Ember, he's tainted in my eyes.

And don't get me started on his cheesy dirty talk. God. It makes me shudder. It just made me so uncomfortable. I've come across characters with hotter, sexier dirty talk than his. His are just plain gross.

Also I get that this book is meant to be a setup for future books in this series, hence why we get back story on Dozer and Bethany and some other characters but it GETS TEDIOUS. I need some mystery man. I don't need to know every single details. You just ruined it for me.

Note to self:

- The heroine escapes an abusive relationship and runs into another messy one.
- The hero degrades women. He is a bully and an as*hole. He even tries to cut the heroine's throat.
- Although, the hero treats her like shit, she still has the hots for him.
- The heroine seems to be a spineless doormat.
- The hero has sex with OW in front of the heroine.
- The heroine also finds him with another woman in his room where he tied her to his bed.
- The heroine is raped and it is not a fade-to-black scene.

I've read a ton of MC romance, but this one ROCKED my world!
This was unique, raw, gritty, sexy and kept me on the edge of my seat.
Characters were amazing, and I can totally see this developing into a kick ass MC series.
I was flippin' pages like there's no tomorrow. Literally could not put it down!

What an absolutely wonderful story

This story was very long, but worth every page.

Ember runs to escape her controlling and abusive boyfriend. She ends up at a shelter and is trying to survive when she runs into a woman named Lily, at a supermarket, who helps her when a cop is hassling her.
Lily is the girlfriend of a man named Goose, who belongs to a biker club. When Em excuses herself to the bathroom, the cop, Davis follows her. He knows who she is as her face has been plastered across the news by her boyfriend trying to find her. You see not only did she leave him, she burnt his house down.

Davis offers her a deal, to go into the biker club and get information to being them down and Davis won't snitch her out. She agrees.

Mav is the leader of the club and when he sees Em for the first time he is livid. She reminds him too much of a woman that had torn his world apart. He tries everything to get rid of her but soon finds himself wanting her. But it's wrong, she's all wrong for him. Will he get his way and get her out? Or will he keep her and claim her as his own

09/27/2015 -- This is one of those books that EVERYONE liked but me. It didn't grab me. I'm not a fan of how this one is told. It lacked logic and I'm finding this is something I have to have and have real issues if I start to question things. Oh, well ..

Happy Reading!!

"Hey, Doll."
BURNING EMBER is the first book in the HARBINGERS OF CHAOS series by Darby Briar. I bought it after reading SILVER BASTARD by Joanna Wylde, Amazon suggested it for me and since I was in a mood for another MC book, I one-clicked it.

Bikers books can be very good or very, very bad and since I did not know this author and, I believe, BURNING EMBER is her first novel, I was a bit apprehensive before starting it. I was pleasantly surprised.

BURNING EMBER was definitely a good MC book, it has everything you want in this kind of read and yet it's still unique and unexpected. I truly enjoyed reading it, the writing style was good and easy to read, the characters were all well developed and Darby made me cry, that's when you know it's good!

Ember is on the run from her crazy ex-boyfriend. She's young (twenty-two, I believe), desperate, has no money, nothing. One night, while shopping, she crosses path with a woman, Lily. She sees Ember's situation and wants to help by taking her to the Harbingers of Chaos Motorcycle Club, where her old man is a member. At the same time, a cop recognizes her (her ex-boyfriend is searching for her and her photo is all over the news), he gives her an ultimatum, either she goes with Lily and gives him all the information she can on the MC or he sends her right back to her psychotic ex.

So, she goes with Lily. But convincing the president of the club to let her stay is another story. Maverick or Rick the Dick is a hard man, who had his life and heart shattered by his ex-girlfriend, since then, he cannot stand the sight of helpless, frightened young women, especially redheads. And Ember fits the description perfectly. But he makes a deal, he'll let her stay at the club for twelve days, she'll cook and clean and when the twelve days come to an end, she'll be the welcome home gift for one of his brother, Edge, who was in prison for five years. Nothing goes as planned, they're both attracted to each other but Mav is hell bent on scaring her away.

Mav is the king of assholes, seriously, what a mean bastard he was. Cruel even. I'm not kidding, he even did a few things that did not sit well with me but, being able to understand him better by being in his head helped a lot. Even if I thought that some of his reactions were a bit over the top. Deep down, he was still a good guy who had his heart broken by a woman and couldn't let go of the past. I really liked him though, even before he got his head out of his ass, he was likable...because who doesn't like a big, sexy, brooding, intense, alpha male?!

Mav also has a job outside of the club, he's an architect and I just loved that. It's a nice change for once, a brother who isn't fully invested in the MC (even if, in a way, he is), he still had a normal life outside of this world and I thought it was very interesting.

Ember is a surprising character as well. At first you think she's just this fragile, helpless girl who's lost, scared and completely out of her element but then you see the real her. Everything she's been through, what she did to survive and you realize that she's actually a very strong woman who just needs a break.

I loved that their relationship developed slowly, Mav truly hated her at the beginning even if he was attracted to her, he didn't act on it until later in the book and Ember was just plain scared of him. The sexual tension though...holy mother! Yes. Yes. Yes! I really liked them together, with her we saw another side of Mav, and they both made each other stronger. They definitely worked for me.

The secondary characters were great as well. Like I said in the beginning, ALL her characters were well developed and I really liked that. We get to meet lots of club members and I cannot wait to read the next book. Some pissed me off, like Taz and Dozer, but I'm really looking forward to read more of them.

The plot was good but a little messy at times. If that makes sense. No spoilers but Ember is supposed to spy on the MC for the corrupt cop she meets at the grocery store but it basically has zero impact on the story, like this part of the book didn't happen at all. I didn't get why the author wrote this exchange if she had no intention on going forward with it later in her story. Then, like I said, I thought it was just a bit all over the place. Too many things happening. But it was still entertaining and unexpected because I didn't see a few things coming and I was surprised.

Though, even if I've read darker and grittier MC books than BURNING EMBER, you still should know that some parts were hard to read.

Overall, BURNING EMBER was a very good read. I will definitely read more books by this author and I can't wait to read the next installment in the series.

Maverick/Luce and Ember/pumpkin/Doll

I liked this okay it’s really a 3.75 star read.for me as I did skim through the last half at times. Ember is running from abusive ex. She’s taken in by a MCC . Prez Maverick is still getting over his ex. Ember who is a redhead reminds him of his ex so he projects all of his negativity onto her. The first half is a lot of pushing back by the H .

Someone read this book and told me how much they enjoyed it. Then someone else asked for some details, so I opened up the book for a quick glance. I ended up starting at the beginning and doing an entire re-read of the whole book and yes it was still 5 stars for me. Love the story, the characters and this author's writing style. Book 2 in the series is coming soon and I can't wait.

First read September 2015
Seldom do I read a new, first time author and get such a quality story. This author gave me a story that once started, I couldn't put down. Loved the characters, especially Maverick and Ember. The secondary characters were so engaging that I can't wait to read their stories, all of them including Griz's story. Griz is older but he's been with the club since it was created. Then there is Edge, and Edge is really the next one I want. I can't say enough good things about this book. My only hope is that the author doesn't make us wait long for book 2 and that she delivers the same quality in book 2 as she delivered in this one. I can see myself reading this book again and would give it more stars if I could. That's how much I enjoyed this book.

Anytime a "Hero" has sex with another woman in front of the main female lead will
ALWAYS earn a ONE Star in my book.

That is not Romance and should be categorized under a different genre.

Throw in the abuse and disrespect and I want to rate it lower than one star.

I don't care how "good looking" the guy is.. please stop condoning this horrible behavior of
the male leads just because the "hero" is pretty.

I mean, are the guys only considered abusers if they are ugly??? WT..

Sorry, this theme of abusive man whores, just isn't my cup of tea.

I rated the book 1 star, while the narrators were good and were rated 4 stars.

Honey Scarlett and Leeroy Will did well with the narration.

Burning Ember is another book that I have had sat on my kindle for what feels like an absolute age!

I love a gritty MC read but I find them to be very similar plot wise if you overindulge in them, so I only dip my toes in every so often these days.

I really enjoyed this one, though. It kept me invested right up until the end. It’s not without its flaws mind you and I don’t think that it will be everyone’s cup of tea, but I found it to be a good solid read overall. 3.5 stars felt a little mean, but 4 stars may be a little generous.

Ember, or “Doll”, or even “Pumpkin”, (yeah, she has a lot of names) is on the run from her violent ex. She’s desperate and is willing to do pretty much anything to survive. Circumstances have her arriving at Harbingers of Chaos’s club house where she meets Maverick.

Mav is also in bad place; he’s been badly hurt by his ex, and Ember looks just like the woman who burned him. Because of this, Mav hates Ember immediately. He's also deeply attracted to her. The continual references to his ex really bugged me at the start, but I guess it was important to the story and she does eventually get buried (metaphorically speaking, only) towards the middle of the book.

The book is a full length novel and incorporates good secondary characters. There weren’t too many club members and old ladies that it became confusing - something I find happens a lot with this genre – but just enough to deliver a packed plot line and remain easy to follow.

Whilst I personally really enjoyed this one, I also know that a lot of readers won’t like Maverick.
So here’s your warning: there is a scene where he physically hurts Ember while he’s intoxicated, and there are many scenes at the start of the book where Mav is with other women, and sometimes this is in front of Em. But this is an MC, not a church; drugs and violence are part of this genre and I believe this story to be authentic to bikers and their lifestyle.

I did get a bit annoyed towards the end with the author’s - and not just this author actually, this seems to be common across the board – insistence on making Ember out to be the “perfect woman”. She could cook well and cleaned everything and loved children, oh so much. Yawn!

While I did love Ember, and I actually really did, I hate this “perfect woman” stereotype that authors use to make the heroine seem more worthy somehow than the other women. It’s 2019, honestly the heroine doesn’t always need to be a maternal virgin to be worthy of a man’s love. We want imperfect, real characters, please!

A few ends were left open too, the spying for the corrupt cop didn’t materialise, there was a mole supposedly but this was left unanswered and Sunny’s departure was slightly odd. Probably left open for a series. I would have liked an epilogue, but again maybe this is left open for the next book...

If you stick with it, then I think that you will fall in love with Mav, like I did; once he was with Ember, he was 100% committed to her. Their story is passionate and genuine.

But if you don’t like other women, ex girlfriends and cannot forgive characters for their fuck ups – this is probably not one for you!

4.5 stars! I loved this book and how long it was!! It allowed me to get a true feel for the characters and it was during this time that I fell in love with Ember. She was such a strong character and although she was in a shit storm, she continued to be a fighter. It was also during this time that I truly disliked Mav and his treatment of Ember/Pumpkin/Doll. My feelings obviously changed drastically because by the end of the book I was wanting my own Mav!

All in all, the plot was great and it made for a great story. There was a bunch of drama, angst and steaminess between the main characters, but there was also a great deal about the club and the secondary characters. I really enjoyed the writing and I look forward to reading more about the other club members. I can feel it in my bones that it's going to be one of those series that I drop everything to read. If you like MC books than you will LOVE this book!!

It was long, but it was gooooooood.

Frankly I am surprised by the low ratings/reviews posted on this book. The only conclusion that I came to is that the people who didn't like it have obviously never read an MC book before. Damn, this was good.

In the first 10% I was skeptical, rolled my eyes once or twice because the story had disaster written all over it- but it got so much better.

I would recommend this to anyone who liked the Reaper series. Great book, looking forward to more from this author.

This was super good! I enjoyed every bit of it. I LLLLOOOOVVVVEEEEDDDD Mav or Luc what ever you want to call him. Ember was such a strong lead I love her to bits. This book had everything you come to expect from a MC romance. I am soooo looking forward to reading about the other members. I hope the next book is about Taz!! Pretty please!!

Audio:
5 stars for Marie Hawkins, and Joe Arden. This is a duet narration!

Book: 2 stars

Must have read a different book than everyone since I didn’t like this..

Started off well then it just became not great…idk Ember was a pushover taking Mav back when he needed to grovel more or not be as easily forgiven with how he treated her… and that happened multiple times… also did this really need to be over 550 pages? No. It didn’t.

Also it felt like there should have been a book before this because of all the characters and the dynamics we were supposed to know.

Overall… not great, this just let me down for an MC book and that sucks since they used to be my everything! Haha
