A chilling tale of a southern raised musician whose horrific childhood caused her great pain and distrust. Nikki Lee Brannon endured a life of extreme domestic violence fueled by alcoholism, sexual abuse, and poverty which fostered an atmosphere of complete chaos. Nikki was very fortunate to have an influential Christian mother who instilled the forgiveness of Christ into her life in spite of their daily struggle to survive the rage of her alcoholic father.Take a walk into this riveting, true story of terror, survival, faith, and finally, forgiveness as Nikki reveals explicit first-hand accounts of her memories.
This book seemed to just skim the surface of what happened and how Nikki felt about it. I didn't care for it. Even the spiritual part seemed to be skimmed. I'm not describing it right but it was very light on details. Like what happened to her mom and all her sibs. Not for me.
This is a true story about the life of Nikki Lee Brannon but not the life she chose. The Lord God was with her and her family everyday. It took courage for Nikki to open up her life to the world. This story is so emotional, so touching and heart breaking. Nikki has shared an excellent story with us. I can not imagine having to live a life in fear from day to day. She and her mother were both so strong to protect the other children and themselves from an abusive alcoholic father. The Lord was there for the whole family every step of the way.
Too twee and cute for its own good. It's a book about horrific child abuse but it's playing coy and 'clever'. If you're not mature enough to use the words "shit" and "ass" in your book, but on the next page you explain how a little girl was raped, then I'm not going to waste the effort to read it.
My heart goes out to all women , children , and some men who has had to deal with angry violent drunks . It's no kinda of life for any involved. I been there for 7 years of dealing with a man who when sober was a caring loving man but when drunk he was the complete opposite , mean , physically and mentally abusive. That was over 30 years ago but still to this day I go into full blown panic mode when I'm around ppl drinking especially if they have anger issues. Thank you for sharing your story , you , your mom and whole family was & are so very strong to have gone thru all you did with your father from childhood into adulthood. Your mom was a very wise woman and I believe her wisdom & strength helped her children learn to overcome all y'all went thru and become wise & strong just like she was. She was an amazing woman who went thru more than any mom / woman should ever have to as well as her children. God bless you and your family Nikki .
This book was an okay read. It is wrote in a narrative form. The story of a family terrorized by a troubled alcoholic husband and father. Nikki shares how God's love and forgiveness carried her through. I would have liked to have had a summary of what happened to other members of the family but she chose to focus in on her trials and how her faith carried her. Which is fine.
This was a heartfelt story about a troubled childhood. It is always difficult to be honest and open up when faced with a difficult situation. I would've liked the author to use more imagery and emotion in her writing in order to connect more with the reader rather than a lot of telling of events, but I still think (especially as a nonfiction piece) that it was worth reading. 3.5 to 4 stars
I just downloaded it an hour ago. And I am finished reading it. I could not put it down. It is the most amazing story of how God can touch our lives and if we live throughout him there will be amazing rewards waiting for us.
This is an amazing journey of what one family went through. Forgiveness comes only through God! This mama was instilling in her children how to be strong and faithful to God! This was a very insightful look into what alcoholism can do to a family.
This book opens your eyes and heart to those that suffer abuse. It certainly shows that no matter what or who abuses us our heavenly father is always there with us.
This was the type of book that I just couldn't put down once I started. I wanted to know what happened to Nikki and her family! Such a hard life to live, a strong woman to look up to.
A little heavy on the religion for my taste. It helped the author get through a lot of bad stuff and I say good for her, but this bio didn't really work for me.
