How to be Married When You’re Single: Overcoming Your Struggle with Singleness by Erica A. Spence gives singles hope to find purpose and inspiration in their season of life, giving a biblical posture on singleness. Focusing on choosing life and being obedient to His Word, this book reveals a godly perspective to singleness that offers tremendous hope. Her aim in this book is to develop wholeness and readiness to be married, but instructs readers to be content in whatever season of life they are in. Assisting readers to develop trust in the Lord, she speaks of God as the One who sets and changes the seasons in our lives, encouraging readers that we can trust Him in all things – that He is our Husband. Though-provoking and full of Scripture, this read will help readers cope with the many life issues, giving inspiration to live a life focused on their walk with the Lord, thus propelling individuals into their life purpose as a child of God, whether that may be marriage or singleness.

Easy-to-read, to the point and under 40 pages, the author offers biblical truths that speak of how to live a life separated and holy unto God, according to the Word of God. Within each chapter, the Holy Spirit gave her poems that really are poignant and touching. Briefly, she gives her background on her single life and reveals what the Holy Spirit laid on her heart to write to singles. She truly knows what she is talking about, as she has remained single throughout her walk. She is healthy, happy, and content and reveals to all that singleness is okay; and can be fulfilling, even though our society has a tendency to make one feel rejected. This read will help readers to overcome any rejection they feel about themselves and from society as they earnestly seek the Lord with all their hearts.

This is a highly recommended read for anyone that is struggling with singleness and sometimes the loneliness and rejection of one self and the stigma of being single. Written to help readers understand that they are to find their joy and completeness in the Lord will help those looking for love to be ready and whole when marriage may be on the horizon. This book also comes highly recommend to young women of today, but to pastors and ministers as well, spiritual content (and recommended reading list), coupled with the spirit of encouragement that accompanies this read. One would be wise to add this book to their library and to buy several copies to hand out as ministering gifts. Our young people of today need God, and in particular young women need to be taught the importance of making God their husband first before marriage.
