Literally one of the best books i have read for a while, how it’s made a little bit like an rpg just fascinated me, and even tho it was very cliché it still ended up being the best guilty pleasure i could pass my exams with

Book of Immortals starts out amazingly. That first chapter is just grand. I can't really get into specifics without spoiling it much for you but it is easily one of the best opening chapters I have ever read. It sets the bar so high that the subsequent ones almost disappointed me. This is actually the first time I ever recall enjoying the first half of the book much more than the final one.

One of my favourite things about the book is how the protagonist is not supposed to be the protagonist. All in all, there's a lot I enjoyed about Book of Immortals, or I would not have read it so quickly. The concepts are ingenious and unique. For instance, I always wonder, when reading a book where the characters go on adventures, how they get food and other items they need. The creation of items such as satiety pellets and space pouches was very smart indeed. And the subsequent items all seem very believable and its purpose well explained, as well as the settings.

But I started losing interest around the time the narrative became too focused on the romance and when

I also have to point out that the synopsis completely ruined it for me and it took me quite a while to get past it. When I first started reading the book, it had so much potential, to me. We are reading about someone who remembers themselves differently, doesn't recognize their body, has glimpses of memories of another life. This right here tells us that maybe the person is dreaming or having an out of body experience or so much more that I cannot imagine but no, the blurb just HAD to tell us the person has died. Major spoiler. I don't appreciate major spoilers in a synopsis. Something as important as this should be discovered by the reader progressively, as they advance in the adventure.

I also kind of wish the book and concept had another title. Although I cannot think of one, the fact is they are not immortals, they just live longer than mortals.

All in all, Book of Immortals is a great read if you are a fantasy fan, so despite all the flaws I mentioned I think the 4 stars are well deserved. I can tell a lot of thought and imagination was put into creating this work and would love to read the remaining books of the series. I would especially love to see some questions answered, particularly how the protagonist is transported into World of Immortals (really wish it had a more inventive name, by the way),

Read it. It's quite the adventure.

The book has a unique concept and a very interesting story line. Once you start it, it is very difficult to put it down unless you finish it. There is always a suspense lurking around somewhere at every turn of the page.

Celine dies in a plane crash and ends up as an antagonist in the book she was reading. It takes her some time to realize this but soon she remembers that she is bound to death very soon. Now to avoid getting killed, she has to use her knowledge of the story and her skills to change the path of the story. In this path, there are many other obstacles to overcome and many disciples and masters to come across.

It is a very interesting and unique story line. The flow is really nice and characters are nicely explained. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

This story is a bit up in the air for me upon its grading since there were good points and definitely some bad points. Altogether I would have to give 3.5 stars.

First of all the story itself was a refreshing twist by being taken from the viewpoint of the "villain" instead of the regular fantasy story heroine that you normally read about. It was this summary point that captivated me with the story itself.

Second of all the story had plenty of details (sadly it wasn't true to some parts of the story that I felt needed more fleshing out for the plot) to weave you into a different type of fantasy domain than usual. These details gave a more defined line to the story while giving you a chance to get yourself immersed into a world that you may not understand.

And the last thing that I liked about the story was the idea weaving the two worlds together although the "modern" world that Shann/Celine came from eventually seemed to lose importance. One minute it was what she was striving for and what held the story together then it was just drowned upon the rest of the story.

Now what I didn't like about the story itself was the flatness of the characters. Some of the characters started off as real strong and then seemed to be replaced as weaker beings. We were introduced to a world teeming with such beings that could add life, dimension and strength to the story but then just like blowing on a house made of cards towards the end the author butchered them towards the end - Aaren goes from being a strong quiet male hero type to almost losing it in the end, Divinity Sabien is a genius who seems to be lacking his mind when you look at this actions comparing to the trust he puts in his younger disciple (whom he doesn't really train), Iaden starts off as strong then wilts just like Xun and there is too much questions surrounding the heroine Yinn such as What is going on with her and Jaydin.

I also didn't like the ending of the story. Here we had a conflicted character who all of a sudden goes from being naïve and innocent to power-hunger, understandable in the face of not wanting to die. She believes Yinn has so much luck on her side and is afraid to cross her but her own greed and selfishness stops her from seeing that she has just as much luck if not more. And towards the end it was a non-stop slide into the total darkness of two characters with Shann not even trying to fight what she had as a moral conflict earlier in the story but just throwing everything away to get what she wanted.

Again I am on a conflict on this one while I would love to read the next one to see if there is a save to the end of this story. It could be even more interesting I hope after having such a detailed story placed before you that is full of twists and turns to start off the series.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was a bit conflicted about what I was expecting when I started this book. On on hand, the plot summary sounded super cool and I was all "heck yeah, let's read this awesome book". On the other hand, the cover is... a little lame and made me wonder whether or not the writing would match.

Thankfully, the cover did not dictate the quality of the writing. This book was so, so interesting. The world Celine/Shann lives in is imaginative and exciting and holy crap super dangerous like why is everyone trying to kill each other. It's pretty easy to get immersed in the world, too. Once you get over the fact that some of the main transportation systems are like, flying telepathic canoes and giant hovering swords (why). I do wish that there had been a little more fleshing out of the whole "leveling up" thing, because I still feel a little confused about that whole part.

Celine/Shann was a pretty fascinating character, and I found it super interesting that she started out as a baby instead of getting transported into the villain's body at a later age. It made for some really cool character development throughout the book.

There could have definitely been some more world-building going on through this book, but I don't think it left everything unexplained, and honestly there were only a few things I didn't completely understand (flying swords). I also think that a bunch of the other characters could have been fleshed out more, but seeing as our main character would occasionally just decide to go into seclusion for like twenty years, I can understand why there wasn't too much time to focus on everyone else.

I'm hoping that the next book focuses on exploring the world a bit more (and maybe explaining the big-ass flying swords?) and developing the characters further. With where Celine/Shann is at when this book finishes, I'm really interested in seeing where her storyline takes her.

'Book of Immortals: Disciple' is the first book in a fantasy series about a girl who dies in a plane crash and then goes through an entirely different lifetime in another realm which she discovers is actually the plot of the book she was reading before she died.

This story is built on a really cool and unusual concept. I was intrigued by how it started and I very much enjoyed the magical elements, which were very creative. The story starts off at a slow pace which is essential to absorb all the important details, becoming more action-packed and emotionally engaging towards the end.

The book was well written and told a unique story with an interesting main character. I found it a refreshing read and something a bit different in the genre. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Overall this is a very original, well constructed fantasy novel. Highly recommended!

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. The book is about a girl who had an accident and arrives in the world of the book she was reading. The while time I was wondering if she was in a coma, but I didn't get an answer on this question yet.
I loved the fact we seemed to be reading a book inside a book. This is quite an original concept. I liked reading the book

I thoroughly enjoyed the story line of the book, the end half seemed a little too rushed for me but I got the idea of it because it really reminded me of the Chinese drama/novel Hua Qian Gu (The journey of flower) where she belongs to that of the demon sect without realising, falls in love with her master (which FYI is completely forbidden), she is however the main character suffering hardships and the lost of many loved ones to push her to her last limit of turning evil & without her master admitting he loved her. Worth the watch/read if you are into Chinese folk tales and dramas (58eps).

Not a complete fan of the writing style but I got use to it after reading half the book. The details of the story, artifacts are all very interesting but did get a little repetitive, would still recommend to read if you’re a fan of cultural/Chinese folktales and fantasy’s because most of them are done very well.

I am now onto reading the 2nd and 3rd book.

Ugh, this book. I don't know where to begin.

Things I liked... The premise was good; it was interesting to see her succumb to more villainous actions in the name of trying to divert her death as an antagonist. The magic system had a very video game structure, which was different yet familiar. And... well I guess that's it.

Things I didn't like... The writing just was not cutting it for me. It felt like I was reading a middle grade fanfic. Interactions between people didn't feel natural. It was very "I need the audience to know this, so this character says this." And the leaps in time made everything feel rushed, ESPECIALLY the ending. Who cares if you can live for thousands of years if you are spending the vast majority of it in seclusion to collect more power... so that you may live more years in seclusion collecting power?

I would give this book 2 stars, except I did at least enjoy the first first half or so of the book.

It was really addictive and it was unlike anything I had read before, sadly the characters in this book seemed bland.
I could not feel any dimension in their personalities and made it really hard to get attached to them, plus I didn't see much character development (in my humble opinion), also the pace of the story was quite fast. Still the concept was interesting, the world described was intriguing as was the magic system it had. It was an interesting read but not interesting enough to make me want to pick the next book in the series

The beginning of this book is epic.. If floored me from the start.. I couldn't drop it and I have to comment on the world creation... Whaaaat.. Who thinks up things like this... I love the characters but the different personality did not really allow me to connect very well because i was not sure if she was going to return to earth and change and I did not want to love someone only to lose her... So I think that's the only downside.. But this book is utterly mesmerizing

Just thought the 'heroine' was the most immature thing on two legs

Even for YA, this was ridiculous. She can justify anything she does; she really is the villain and not an interesting one.

I was with this book at the start, it was pretty unique in it's methods and I enjoyed it. However it was a lot like reading about someone playing a game when they'd extensively read the cheat sheets. I think I was almost waiting for the 'gaming' part to finish and for the story to start. This perhaps relates back to the feel of reading about someone playing a game after memorising the cheat sheet - they know what's found where etc so there is no excitement or strife or conflict.

I'd had enough by 65% however, I started to notice grammatical errors and things and I was getting annoyed with how easily each problem was solved or moved along in the blink of an eye. And by 75% I was really questioning what I was reading. If I'd still been in the first 45% of the book I'd have given up, but since there was so little left I pushed through. I'm not sure if the last part of the book was different - writing wise or anything - but as I said, that's at least where I noticed it. I honestly can't say if the feel of it changed or if I simply got bored, but I certainly fell out with the main character. (Who clearly didn't know the first rule of acquiring a new cache - Check everything out and level up/ heal up/ arm up with what you find.)

The premise for this book was actually pretty interesting, as well as whom it was Celine became within the story. Also the concept of the world was unique and if I had got on with the story better I'd certainly have wanted to know more about it. I don't like where the story seems to be leading however and so I don't think I'll be continuing.

This book gets such a low rating because I was enjoying it until suddenly I wasn't and I cant tell you why because I don't even know why! Why??! Maybe it's because I was hoping for so much out of it, but it didn't meet my expectations. Not a bad book, but not for me at all.

Featured on All Our Worlds!

When Celine dies, she’s reborn as a baby in a fictional world. But she’s not the hero of this story, she’s the villain, Shann. While training in elemental magic at Sue Sierra, she has to use her knowledge of the story and her own wits to avoid suffering Shann’s defeat by the hero of the book. But will her dedication to her quest lead her down the same dark path?

The Chinese-inspired magic system of the book was very interesting. The Immortals can live for centuries and possess powers based on one or more of the five elements (water, wood, earth, metal, fire) or “mutated” forms of them. Unlike in a lot of other works, here the most powerful people are those who specialize in only one or two elements. Having potential for all five is seen as the worst situation to begin from.

The world is very reminiscent of wuxia martial arts movies. There are distinct ranks of power, which a student advances through by increasing their internal strength, or by eating special “pellets.” Novices seek to be trained by selective master immortals, fighting each other in duels to earn the right to ask to be taught. They spend years in seclusion meditating or studying in order to advance ranks. Shann goes on several quests to find magical items. People travel on flying swords and canoes, magic apparatuses “choose” one master to bond with, currency comes in the form of energy-infused ling stones, and spells called fu are sold as pieces of paper that activate when needed.

I really liked the idea of Shann as the antagonist fighting her destiny. She remembers bits and pieces from the Book of Immortals, and uses this to her advantage. But it isn’t so easy to rewrite the book. As she makes gains, her actions get more and more questionable. Will avoiding being the villain make her one after all?

On the negative side, I did find the action a little contrived sometimes and some of the writing immature, especially in the “real world” scenes.

This book had a lot of imagination in it that’ll definitely appeal to fans of Eastern mythology and martial arts movies.

Book of Immortals: Disciple by Kassandra Lynn

Celine dies in a plane crash and ends up being the lead character in the book she was reading. She ends up in a new realm where she needs to prolong her life. But the Devil is trying to suck the life out of mortals. She learns she is the daughter of the two opposite races and must secretly join an immortal school

She meets Erik who is trying to persuade her into using her Devil side to avoid her doomed outcome. Since she read the book, she knows her days are numbered, and if she needs to come up with a plan or her life will be ending soon. If she doesn't make the right choice it won't end up nice for herself or the realm.

An original fantasy with a different plot. The idea of waking into a book is unique and interesting. I liked the characters, the magic, the action and adventure. There were secrets revealed, surprises a bit of romance making this an enjoyable read. I suggest Book of Immortals: Disciple to those who like fantasy.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

With that being said, I really wanted to like it. I wanted to be able to give it a great review and help out an indie author. Unfortunately, I can not do that. I can only give it a mediocre review.

There was very little about this story that I enjoyed. For some reason, I think it may have to do with the story being written in first person present tense, it was grating on me so much that I could only read one chapter, sometimes less, before I put the book down to take a break.

Another problem that often occurs within fantasy and science fiction novels seemed to be the downfall of this novel as well. When an entire world is being created the author must be careful how he or she describes it in order to avoid tedious amounts of exposition.

I did like the idea of this story, what it was supposed to be about. The plot of the story, the premise, are all wonderful ideas. They are unique and have the potential to produce a great story.

I know that if the author revised this story, polished it up a bit, it would be great.

Disciple is the first of the Book of the Immortals series by Kassandra Lynn. Celine died in a plane crash, and now she's the antagonist of the last book she read before she died.

Except, she already knows she's going to die in the end. The antagonist loses a duel with the protagonist. Celine, now Shann, doesn't want to die like that. She wants to chart a new course for herself. So with the help of some new friends, and one old one, she tries to do the impossible to save her life. And everything seems stacked against her.

I found Disciple a little hard to understand at first, because the world is so different. But I picked up on the nuances and soon got lost in the story. There's a lot of long time lapses, so the story really takes place over a hundred years. But that's not all a bad thing, although at times it did slow the story down.

I'd recommend this one for a good read, and I'll be waiting for book two!

A very interesting concept. When a girl dies on a plane crash she finishes up in a different universe as the heroine in the novel she’d been reading at the time of the crash. Except she’s a baby with incredible powers with flashbacks to the life she used to lead. A life she wants to get back to, but is trapped in a period where years seem like months and she ages far slower than a mere mortal.
Amazing imagination went into this novel, creating a world of fus, dark evil, flying canoes and swords and so much more. All sorts of pitfalls awaiting the unwary as fierce competition rages for advancement and different sects battle for supremacy.
Well written and fast-paced, this novel kept my attention, even though it’s not my normal genre, and I would recommend that fantasy enthusiasts give it a go.

This book was enchanting, and indeed, one of the most interesting reads I've read in a while. Though Kassandra's writing is not exceptional, her plot more than makes up for it and draws the reader in effortlessly, keeping the reader guessing till the very end. A fairly well-written and unique story, Kassandra's book stands out with a not-so-typical heroine and an interesting love triangle in a magical world of immortals. I must say, stories with characters with special abilities interest me greatly (after all, who wouldn't like to have powers?) and Book Of Immortals: Disciple was exactly what I had been looking for for quite some time. Coming across it was, really, a stroke of luck. Can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Recommendation: I would recommend this book to readers who love fantasy with a touch of romance and adventure.

The Book of Immortals: Disciple
By Kassandra Lynn
Let me preface my review by saying that I won this title via a Goodreads Giveaway.
I wasn't quiet sure what to expect with this book, and I was overall pleasantly surprised. It's rare that I find a book that I cannot figure out where it's going and get frustrated at my lack of reading speed (I'm no slouch when it comes to that). While following some similar themes that I've come to enjoy, it was wholly unexpected from beginning to end even with glimpses into the future by the narration. Definitely worth a read if you enjoy fantasy, supernatural, love interest, almost anime style stories. I am looking forward to payday to get the other two titles in their series to figure out how any of it is managed, and I would explain more but I don't want to have this review have any spoilers.

An alright book. The levels of immortals was confusing. I would have enjoyed more of the back story and how she ended up in the book. That aside the writing was nice and it flowed nicely. The characters were good. There just seemed to be parts that weren't fully explained to me. I did however love the descriptive ability of the author. I actually felt like I was there. That's a very good thing to be able to do. Transport the reader to the location the book takes place. I just needed more back story. More of her life before she became a character in the book and more before she was shipped off to train.

Disciple by Kassandra Lynn is an interesting and gripping beginning to the Book of Immortals series. Written in First Person, the story follows Celine in her mission to change of the fate of the character who her soul was thrust into when she perished in a plane crash. The only problem is, the character that she became is the antagonist in the book she had been reading prior to her death.
This book is unique and different from everything else that I've read. There were some good points and some bad points like in many books but it was still an enjoyable read for me.

I received this book from a goodread's first reads giveaway in exchange for an honest review. Absolutely amazing. The characters and the plot were both unique. The little romance is cute. The only thing that was irritating was the writing. It needed to be read through one more. Some of the sentences were just clunky and weren't needed. Nothing more I can say. I absolutely loved it.

Plot was very original and this book had tons of potential to be great.

Unfortunately, the book reads as a first draft. World is complex but not expanded upon properly. Cardboard characters. Plot not developed properly. This book is badly in need of an extra 200pages or so.

Great read, though, and love the plot. Hope the author would rewrite the book properly.
