I've been picking through this book an essay at a time for a few weeks, savoring Guida's intelligent and often witty prose. It's rare to read critical essays with a passionate and humorous voice--that is to say, a voice that strays from academic norms, but Guida does that, making for a very readable collection of essays on Italian Americana at both its finest and its most ridiculous.
