No one needs to push Nikki Boyd to excel on the Tennessee Missing Persons Task Force. The case of her own missing sister, still unsolved after ten years, is the driving force in her work. When a Polaroid photo of a missing girl shows up at a crime scene, Nikki quickly recognizes similarities to the past. The closer she gets to the abductor, the more she feels this case has become personal, and she is not the hunter . . . but the hunted.
With this explosive first book in The Nikki Boyd Files, award-winning author Lisa Harris takes you on a fast-paced pursuit of justice that will have you holding your breath until the heart-stopping finish.

This book has been in my "reading" shelf for almost two months already and I can't go on anymore. I like the plot of this book. A kidnapped girl and a main character who is driven to find her?Sounds like my cup of tea. I'm quite excited to read this but at the same time, still has the doubts because this is the first time that I will read a book by this author.
With all due respect, it's a good book. The way of writing is easy to read and you can easily get what is going on.
The problem is:
When the author introduces a new character, she doesn't explain to her readers who the fuck that person is. Like she's ll just immediately add this certain character to the story and you expect for some little background like "John Doe has been the chief of police of this county and blah blah blah..."
She also doesn't tell us what's the connection of a character to the MC. She'll just put the word "close friend", "boss" and "co-worker" to a sentence and that's it. Maybe I was spoiled by books of Sidney Sheldon, Tess Gerritsen and other thriller mystery authors, but I just can't seem to continue reading this book.
Don't start this one if you are ready to head to bed. I meant to read a few chapters to relax and ended up propping my eyelids open to finish the last few chapters. It's such a great suspense read and one I'm very glad to own. The mystery kept giving twists and turns minute after minute, so it was hard to know who would be shot next or stalked next and where the next clue would turn up.
Nikki Boyd is a Special Agent with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, Missing Persons Task Force. She chose this line of work after her sister, Sarah, disappeared nearly ten years ago. The case was never solved. On her day off work, a rock-climbing outing with her friend Tyler is cut short when her boss contacts her. Sixteen-year-old Bridget Ellison has disappeared from a nearby cabin where she was staying with her brother and some friends. After interviewing everyone, Nikki thinks the girl may have gotten lost in the woods. But when a piece of evidence turns up, Nikki begins to believe that Bridget may have been seized by the same man who kidnapped her sister.
This is the first book in the Nikki Boyd series. The investigation leads us into the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, one of my favorite places to visit. The suspense story was well done. I never did guess the villain correctly. There is a hint of potential romance between Nikki and her friend Tyler Grant. Tyler's wife was Nikki's best friend who was killed in an accident. I'm guessing there will be a slow burn romance over the course of this series. I did find the writing to be a bit odd. Sometimes we had a scene with new characters who came out of nowhere. I needed more explanation about who they were. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
Vendetta by Lisa Harris possesses a frighteningly plausible scenario about a young teen who has gone missing. Special Agent Nikki Boyd of the Tennessee Missing Persons Task Force happened to be in the vicinity of the disappearance with her friend Tyler. They were commemorating the one-year anniversary of his wife’s death when the call was received. Nikki doesn’t hesitate to respond, as 10 years earlier the investigation into the abduction of Nikki’s sister had quickly turned cold, and she knows that time is of the essence. Held captive by a rising sense of urgency and the compelling backstory of this new heroine, I finished this book in one day!
Following a tip, Nikki and Tyler soon find themselves with the daunting task of searching for the missing teen in the expansive wilderness of the Great Smoky Mountains. I was very excited about the author’s choice of setting because I can remember a childhood visit to the park and seeing my first black bear. I enjoyed the park history and folklore the author used to enhance the story.
Once in the park, Nikki quickly assembles a team of volunteers and rangers to aid in the search. As potential leads result in a series of dead ends, memories of her sister’s abduction begin to plagued Nikki. It was at about this point in the book that I recognized Nikki, her faith, and the investigative story gaining depth rapidly. It’s also when readers catch our first real glimpse of romantic tension – a spark with the potential for fireworks in the future.
Possessing depth, fast-paced suspense, and unpredictability – Vendetta earns my highest rating! I can’t wait for Missing (The Nikki Boyd Files #2) set to release July 5, 2016.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Pre Teens- One Star New Teens- One Star Early High School Teens- Two Stars Older High School Teens- Three Stars My personal Rating- Three Stars Much more intense than her previous series, author Lisa Harris takes on a serious topic in her new series: abductions. This wasn’t the best book to read at night, that’s for sure. At first I was confused with who’s-who due to the back cover not saying much, but I eventually caught on. This book isn’t for the faint with it’s heavy topics of abductions, killing & murders, a warning to my fellow teens. Like I said, pretty intense. There was quite a bit of Spiritual Content and not much Sexual Content, which was nice. I most likely will continue this series, but I do hope the next book has at least a little less serial killers, murders & shooting people.

Vendetta is my first book by Lisa Harris and I really enjoyed it! The suspense was great and definitely kept me guessing. I couldn't figure out who was behind the kidnapping until it was finally revealed.
I loved all of the characters. I thought the tease of romance between certain characters was great and I hope we get to see if something develops in the next book.
I definitely recommend Vendetta if you enjoy romantic suspense. It's really good!

This book was packed with suspense! It had me guessing all of the way through it and on pins and needles to find out if Nikki Boyd would be able to find the missing girl and information about her missing sister.
Vendetta really kept my attention from start to finish. It was a hard book to set down because it seemed that there was always a new trail to follow and a new clue to track down. It dealt with a lot of emotions, too. Nikki Boyd has a lot of guilt wrapped up in her sister’s disappearance, which occured ten years earlier. I couldn’t help but feel for Nikki and wanted her to get some resolution.
I really enjoyed the hint of romance that flowed through the ending of this story. There is the possibility of a future relationship and I am excited to see how that turns out. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book! There is plenty of suspense to keep you on your toes! The romance is really in the background on this one. Although her friendship with her best friend's husband (the best friend has passed away) is tender and sweet, there's not a clear romance between them. A good start to this newest series by Lisa Harris.
I don’t know why I kept delaying starting this series, because Vendetta was a book which grabs your attention from the first sentence right till the last word, happily giving up sleep to see what will happen.
I loved meeting and getting to know Nikki and glad this series is one which will continue with her as the lead, since I was left with a lot of open questions and an unresolved romance.
The suspense plot was riveting and kept me guessing right till the end. I did not expect the culprit and especially how they related to Nikki. A lot of the action scenes felt plausible, and it caused a few nail-biting and holding your breath moments.
Nikki Boyd is driven. She's a member of the Tennessee Missing Persons Task Force, and strives to make sure that other families don't suffer the way hers has. Ten years ago, her sister went missing. The case is still unsolved, and Nikki will do anything to make sure that other families get answers to their missing persons cases. A day of rock climbing is cut short when Nikki is called to assist with the disappearance of a teen girl. At first, this appears to be like any other missing person's case until a Polaroid photo of the missing girl shows up. For Nikki, this may be the first real break in her sister's case. But is she too close to the situation? Because the closer that she gets to the finding the girl and who abducted her, Nikki starts to feel less like the hunter and more like the prey.
I've enjoyed Lisa Harris's books in the past. This one was no exception. It was different though. Her previous books had an obvious romantic element in it, this one, there is a hint of the romance, but it's not obvious. I'll be interested to see how that relationship develops.
This book was very easy to read. The action started off immediately. And then when Nikki got pulled to assist with the missing teen, it got even more exciting. I also found that it was a quick read.
I like Nikki. I like how determined she is. It'll be fun to see how much more she grows and develops as the series progresses. I'm really looking forward to see how her relationship with one particular guy progresses and if he will admit his feelings or not.
I received the Kindle version of this book from Revell Books via NetGalley for the purpose of reviewing. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
Recommended to fans of Lynette Eason, Irene Hannon, romantic suspense
I. Love. Romantic Suspense. It’s by far my favorite genre. And while Vendetta doesn’t have much in the way of kissing, the romantic tension is so good! Lisa Harris has done a marvelous job of setting up the series, the characters, and the romantic subplot that will carry through the other books. The romantical tension wasn’t resolved at all in this first book but rather built slowly and left open great possibilities!! Possibilities which I am much looking forward to :-D
The case played out like a TV show – harrowing action, intense questioning, psychological back-and-forth with suspects. One of my friends (and a fellow reviewer) Kav over at Best Reads said that it reminded her of the show Without a Trace. YES! That’s exactly what it’s like! And seeing as how that was one of my fave shows, I very much enjoyed reading Vendetta.
Bottom Line: If you love FBI/police/missing persons TV shows, then you are going to LOVE Lisa Harris’ newest series and the first book, Vendetta. Her main character – Nikki Boyd – has depth and dimension and heart, and both her back story and her personality will have you in her corner by the end of the first chapter. Not to mention the man who loves her – or is it men, plural? Guess you’ll just have to check Vendetta out for yourself ;) Highly recommended for fans of Irene Hannon, Lynette Eason, Patricia Bradley, Janice Cantore or just a general fan of the suspense genre. If you don’t care for a lot of romance with your suspense, this book will be great for you. If you, like me, luuuuv your kissing books, never fear! The potential for upcoming kisses is there in spades!!!
(I received a copy of this book in exchange for only my honest review.)
This was a solid suspense novel and there was a cliff hangar at the end of almost every chapter keeping me turning the pages. What I enjoyed most was the setting. Much of the story took place in Gatlinburg and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I had the pleasure of spending a week there in 2013 and was familiar with several references to the area and activities. I look forward to reading the series further.
Nikki lost her sister ten years ago and when another girl goes missing in the forrest Nikki is determined to get this girl back to her family alive, and soon. This was action packed but also had moments of nothing which is nice for thrillers to have lulls. Nikki is a strong character that really makes you want to keep reading makes you want her to succeed.
But then there was a lull and it didnt pick back up. Yes thigs happened big thigs but i wasnt as invested in the story. I thought this would be a new favorite book but then at some point (im not sure where) I just stopped that edge of my seat need to read it.
A page turner from well...page 1. Nikki Boyd works for the Tennessee Missing Persons Unit. While on a day off with the husband of her dead best friend, they get a call on missing teen Bridget. Suspense until the end. Nikki, Tyler and the team work the Smokey Mountains National Park. The show of teamwork was good and there were a few light moments. I'm looking at you Jack, sorry you have allergies to all the outdoors!
However, there were a few of ugh moments for me. 1. The constant reminder of her dead best friend. Does this get in the way of her and Tyler's friendship and possibly more? 2. And a constant panic of being reminded of her missing sister for ten years. I get this is why she joined the police force but it played so heavily in her monologue. These two things make her human but is this a story of her background or the case at hand? 3. The who dun-it and where was Bridget happened a little fast for me.
Overall, ready to read the rest of the series that the points above don't make me angsty about this read and book 2 "Missing" picks up 5 weeks after this one.
Disclaimer: Book provided by publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Vendetta gave me a Criminal Minds-ish feel, which I liked (as much as one can like Criminal Minds, based on its disturbing content) and the suspense was done fairly well, for the most part. It’s not wholly a mystery but it’s not wholly a suspense novel, either. I’ve read better suspense, but for the most part Vendetta is pretty decent in terms of that aspect.
I did think that Nikki was pretty flat and unappealing as a character. The problem is that she’s too one-note, too bland to really stand out. She doesn’t do enough to distinguish herself as a character worthy of a series. I thought the future romance between her and Tyler was appallingly obvious from the first moment we see them together, what with Harris’s penchant to dwell a lot on things like hugs and how Nikki feels when she’s around Tyler. It’s so obvious I found it a little off-putting, actually.
I enjoyed Vendetta up until the last third, and then I stopped enjoying it. All the tension and the suspense fell flat for me at the end, and I was left feeling that the plot was a little contrived. I didn’t buy the hostage situation in the woods and I thought every scene during and after that was too obviously trying to generate tension and it felt fake as a result. I also thought the villain had some pretty cliché monologues, as well.
Vendetta does some things decently, but I mostly found that Nikki is flat and boring as a character, the tension starts out nicely but then becomes contrived, and the novel simply falls apart in technique and in quality of enjoyment at the end. Not a favorite of mine.
Vendetta by Lisa Harris is the first book in this new series; The Nikki Boyd Files. I could not put the book down. It is action-packed and heartbreaking. The female lead lost her sister 10 years ago and she's never been found. Nikki now works for the Tennessee Missing Persons Task Force. The story opens with her and her best friend’s widow, honoring the day her best friend died. She gets interrupted with a called that another girl is missing. I liked so many things about this book. She works with a great team and the police officer who worked her sister’s case. Great I did not guess who the villain was. This is going to be an amazing series. I cannot wait for the next book. I don't want to ruin any surprises but I was wondering if there's going to be a love triangle between Ryan (Mr Perfect) and Tyler. You cannot help but love Tyler who is missing his deceased wife. He served three tours in Afghanistan and deals with the guilt of not being able to save her. So while helping Nikki with the case he is terrified at times that he may lose her. I highly recommend this book if you like suspense filled mystery with just enough romance to leave you wanting more. Lisa creates characters that you fall in love with. You can see my full review at More Than a Review dot com where I rate the level of sex, violence, language and drug/alcohol use in books.
Nikki Boyd is caught with a dangerous move of her rope as she is rappelling down a cliff with the widow of her best friend, on the anniversary of her friend's death, when she realizes she needs help. Yes, she make it to the bottom, thanks to Tyler's help, but then gets a call; a teen girl has been abducted not far away, could she check it out since she's the closest member of the Tennessee Missing Task force to the the call? As she and others are following leads, they find a clue that give her a flashback to one left ten years ago when her sister disappeared.
There is never a dull moment in this mystery-thriller. Based on this first book and the thriller trilogy of Lisa Harris' that I read a few years ago, I plan to read all of this series.
Vendetta explodes into action from the very beginning, and scarcely lets up its pace as it races to the conclusion. Harris has done a great job at creating two very likable characters in Nikki and Tyler, and throwing them into one harrowing scene after another. If you are anything like me, you will instantly feel empathy for them as they struggle to move on with their lives in the wake of pain and loss. And, as a reader who doesn't love over-the-top romance, I am happy to report that the author has employed just the right touch as these characters draw near each other and discover that perhaps there is more to their relationship than they expected.
The plot about missing teens who have been abducted and killed is a sobering reminder for parents of the dangers that the internet can pose to teens today by stealing their innocence and drawing them into precarious situations. As Nikki and Tyler race from clue to clue to discover who has abducted the latest victim, I shuddered to think of what evil that humans are capable of. I was a little disappointed that the characters weren't really able to discover the killer from any of their own efforts, but rather were led on a chase on a path that the killer carefully laid out for them. I think I prefer when my heroes are able to make at least some discovery on their own that helps them find out exactly who the perp is. That said, once the killer is revealed the tension ratchets up even further, and I found myself unable to step away from the novel until I could see how things concluded.
Fans of clean, gripping romantic suspense novels should definitely consider adding this one to their shelves. I award it a solid rating of 3 out of 5 stars.

“You couldn’t feel the pain of loss if you hadn’t already felt the joy of love.”
Guys. This BOOK.🤯😍
This was my first Lisa Harris book and I am already obsessed with her writing. The way that she writes her characters makes them real, raw, and relatable. And I absolutely love it!
When a Polaroid photo of a missing girl shows up at a crime scene, Nikki Boyd quickly recognizes similarities to the past. The closer she gets to the abductor, the more she feels that this case is getting personal, and that she is not the hunter at all—but actually the one being hunted.
10 years after her sister’s abduction, an eerily similar abduction occurs, sending Special Agent Nikki Boyd on a wild and twisty chase to find her sister’s abductor while trying to bring a missing girl home.
After the passing of her best friend, Katie, Nikki pairs up with Katies’s widowed husband, Tyler to dive deeper into the recent abduction.
This book was literally NONSTOP the entire time and had me reading late into the night on several occasions, it was so good!😍
Just when I thought I had it figured out, the entire story shifted leaving me absolutely speechless.
I connected deeply with Nikki as I recently lost one of my best friends unexpectedly and related so much to her journey as she navigated grief, healing, and trying to solve the case while her emotions run high.
I can’t wait to get the next book in this series!🔥
I’d recommend this book to anyone who is looking for:
🔍Missing persons case ❤️Friends to lovers / slow burn 🔪Cold case killer returns ❤️🩹Navigating loss and grief 🧑🧒Single dad 🤯Twisty
This book is a tough read since it deals with a missing girl named Bridget who met someone on the internet. Nikki Boyd has joined the Missing Persons Task Force after her sister, Sarah, went missing 10 years ago. She is now in charge of trying to find Bridget. Her best friend's husband, Tyler, decides to help her as his pregnant wife and friend of Nikki has died in a drowning a year ago. They both know what it feels like to miss a family member. The search takes them to the Shenandoah National State Park in Tennessee. When the serial killer makes it a personal vendetta against Nikki, the tension builds and leaves you on the edge of your seat and pages flying in order to find out if Bridget will ever be found. The book is full of twists and turns and the action is fast-paced. I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I would highly recommend this book to those who love romantic suspense.
I thoroughly enjoyed this page-turning suspense novel. There is the hint of a future romance, but true to a book that unfolds in three days, there is no forced romance. Instead there is a deeply conflicted heroine who is doing her best to find a missing teen and finds herself in the crosshairs of the plot. This novel is filled with twists, turns, and an impending sense of doom. I loved it and can't wait for the next installment!
DNF-ed due to subject matter. I wish I wasn't so creeped out by this stuff, but honestly one of my biggest fears is being abducted so this played with my mind in the worst way. What I read was excellently written and just so creepy and mysterious, but the subject matter got to me. I couldn't handle the darkness of this book. I would recommend if you aren't afraid of child abduction, but if you're like me and this subject just scares you, don't read it.
"Vendetta" is book 1 in the series, The Nikki Boyd Files. While I like a good mystery/suspense book, I was a bit hesitant to read this one. I’m not going to lie, I get scared pretty easily, but I thought this book was good. It had enough suspense in it to keep me guessing yet it wasn’t super scary. I mean it does deal with serial killers and abductions so some things can get a bit creepy, but I didn’t find it to be disturbing. I am looking forward to reading book 2.
This is one of those books I would love to watch on the big screen. From the very first chapter, I was unable to put this book down until I could find out how it was going to end. These characters immediately become familiar and the story is so intense and just draws you in. Can't wait for the next book in this series.
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.*
This was a very enjoyable suspense book. So much happened, but it was written in such a way that it seemed believable and I didn't want to stay away from the book for long whenever I had to put it down - it was that good. I'm really curious about a couple of things and hope there are resolved in the next book.
This was a fun thriller. I love how we got to see the investigation up close. It got pretty intense in some parts, you really saw the need of finding the girl who is kidnapped as fast as possible.
I really shipped Nikki and Tyler together at the point when they were rock climbing. And I don't know why but
Nikki was an okay character. Most of the story was in her POV. I love how she tries to help people because of what had happened to her sister.
Jack!!! I loved him!!! He made the very intense story a little lighter with his comments and actions, though he also was very good with his job.
The setting of the story was fun. I love books set in the woods.
What I Didn't Like:
This is a plot driven book instead of a character driven book. Which was okay, as it was very interesting to read about the investigation. But I really wanted more character development. Some of the characters were added just to throw you off and then never to be seen again.
I also liked the plot twists, but I felt it was too unexpected. That there should have been more foreshadowing that it was going to be that way, as it was very personal to the main character.
I was a little disappointed with the ending
Content in Book:
1. Kidnapping young girls and killing them and burying them in shallow graves.
2. A poacher who had bear parts in his truck.
3. Violence. (With guns. Killing people. Holding someone in a river with a knife. Hand-to-hand combat. Etc.)
4. Mentions of a pregnant woman falling off of a boat and drowning.
Will I Continue With the Next Book in the Series???
Yep!!! Already onto Missing, that's what happens when you have knee deep snow and power outages, you read paperback books. ;) Should be done it with it by the time this review gets up.
Who I Would Recommend This Book To:
Those who like mysteries. Those like thrillers. Those who like plot driven stories. Those who like stories that get into the investigation part.
This was completely different than what I typically read. I have to admit, it wasn’t an easy read for me. It deals with heavy topics, a topic that makes me really sad. It was pretty dark and creepy and parts disturbed me quite a bit. I’m not used to picking up books like that. It was intense to say the least! But as for the suspense, it kept me turning pages and was well-written. I teared up at the end because that was quite beautifully written and broke my heart! I really like both Nicki and Tyler, especially Tyler. He’s so, so sweet! I’m hoping for a future for these two.❤️ I’m planning on continuing the series!
Loads of suspense in this story. A missing teen and the hint of a resolution to a past cold case pulled me along for a thrill ride with Nikki Boyd. Usually I like a good balance of romance and suspense in my romantic suspense books, but in this case, the romance is a very slow burning one, acting as a delicious side dish to the heart pounding suspense. Full review is at my website.
I received this book complimentary in a giveaway. I was not required to give a review. All of the opinions I have expressed her are my own.
Just read this for the second time, and upped the star rating because I enjoyed it and God used a part of it to encourage me when I needed it. Very good story!
----------------------- Review from first read:
This book was a lot more than I thought it’d be when I first started it! I thought it would just be moderately good to me, because modern day fiction is just not a particular favourite genre of mine, and I don’t really read a lot of mysteries. But wow! This book quickly grabbed a hold of me and wouldn’t let go. I was so pleasantly surprised! It was well written, and creepy at times. It kept me guessing who the Angel Abductor could be. And the ending was a surprise. You’ll, of course, have to read it for yourself to find out the twists and surprises, because I’m sure not going to give any away! :)
The characters were well crafted, and I really liked Nikki and Tyler. They felt like very realistic characters, and I really appreciated the realness to Nikki and the struggles she faced, and how she handled the fear. The end sure had my heart pumping!
I really wish more teens would be aware of the dangers there are online. This book really portrayed it well, and I think more should be informed. In the beginning, I wanted to recommend this to all teens because it was informative, but the middle-end got really tense that I think I’d have to recommend it to older teens.
There was a touch of romance, but it definitely wasn’t the focal point. I think there might be a bit more in the follow series (at least I hope…two characters I would like together :D), but it seems innocent.
” “But that’s just it,” Nikki turned to Tyler, catching his gaze. “I don’t need perfect. I just want someone who looks at me and sees my imperfections and decides to take a chance with me anyway. Someone who will tell me how he feels, love me despite my flaws, and maybe take out the trash while he’s at it.” The realness of two people being together, sharing who they were, the good and the bad.” Chapter 14 “Vendetta” by Lisa Harris.
I really liked this quote. Who doesn’t want that in a relationship?
All in all, I was very pleased with this book and am looking forward to more in the series!
I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for my honest review which I have given.
This is Book One in the author's new series, The Nikki Boyd Files, and I'm already looking forward to reading the next installment (scheduled for release in the summer of 2016).
We are introduced to Special Agent Nikki Boyd and her job on the Tennessee Missing Persons Task Force as she is enjoying a day off from her job. As if her job is not harrowing enough, her hobby of rappelling draws us right into the action when she has a few anxious moments on a sandstone cliff with a rope malfunction.
Nikki is called in to work on a missing persons case involving a sixteen year old girl who meets with a man she met online--or the man she believes she has been connecting with online. The case is like a roller coaster ride with many highs and lows. There are lots of plot twists, turns, and red herrings in this highs and lows. There are lots of plot twists, turns, and red herrings in this story--elements I appreciate as a reader. I never knew what was going to come up next for the heroine.
I liked the main character because she was strong and knowledgeable when it came to doing her job, yet she was vulnerable and sensitive when it came to the decade-long search for her missing sixteen year old sister, Sarah. Nikki was smart and resourceful, yet she was not perfect. The setting for the story is a park in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. The author includes information about the Appalachian Trail, hiking, and camping which enriched the storyline and made it come to life for me.
Lots of action and a hint of a possible romance made this one of my favorite reads of this year. I highly recommend this book for fans of clean fiction, suspense, thrillers, mystery, and romantic suspense.
