This box set includes all of the books in the Kilenya series. Here is the description for The Key of
We all have a choice—but we can’t choose the consequences.
Jacob Clark is chased down a path that takes him to another world—a world where he is a wanted young man. The Lorkon want to control him and the special powers he possesses. The people of the new world want him to save them from the destruction of the Lorkon. All Jacob wants is to go home, but even that choice has consequences. If he waits too long to decide, the new world and the one he came from will be destroyed.
As Jacob looks for people he can trust, he finds himself in the center of a fight for freedom—both for himself and the people he’s come to know. And when he meets a pretty girl named Aloren, everything he understands about his role on Eklaron is challenged.
Jacob has no idea where the path he chooses will take him, but once the choice has been made—bring on the consequences.

Praise and reviews for The Key of "The Key of Kilenya is an adventure filled ride that is perfect for middle grade students, teens, and anyone who loves action and fantasy." - Cindy
“The Key of Kilenya is full of adventure and wonderful, mythical-type creatures—totally unique. This book is like Fablehaven meets Harry Potter with a sprinkling of Lord of the Rings. A good, fun, clean read for the whole family.” – Jennifer Hurst
“Andrea balances excitement with thought, external conflict with inner, and adds just the right mix of mystery and realism.” – Karen Hoover
“This is the beginning of a great middle grade series. Both youths and adults will enjoy The Key of Kilenya.” – Jewel Adams
Andrea, a Brigham Young University graduate, is an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast (hiking, fishing, boating, biking, spending time in the Rocky Mountains, and taking walks). She spent a year and a half serving the Spanish speaking community in Toronto, Canada, and fluently speaks 2 ½ languages. She plays several instruments, not including the banjo, and loves putting together musical arrangements. Her favorite sports are basketball and football, though several knee surgeries and incurably awful coordination prevent her from playing them.
Andrea is always in the mood for a good movie with close friends and family (especially her husband and mom), with a large glass of milk and a bowl of overly buttered popcorn nearby. She also enjoys oil painting, making earrings, squeezing every bit of oxygen out of Ziploc bags, and she hopes to someday travel to Italy and Alaska.
I actually read the Kilenya series one at a time and think that having them all in a single set is a great thing. I've reviewed the individual books before and agree with others who have noted that anyone who enjoyed Harry Potter or the Percy Jackson stories will love this series. It's officially designed for middle schoolers as a YA read, but trust me adults (let's say I'm at the older end if that spectrum) and older kids (like my 18 year old book buddy daughter) will enjoy it just as much. The only bad thing about the Kilenya series is that it ends. Luckily - for adults at least - Pearson has plenty of other books available (her Mosaic Chronicles being exhibit 1).
Anyway, here is a copy of my individual reviews:
The Key of Kilenya
This book is clearly aimed at the middle school YA audience. I'd love to say that I bought it to test it out before giving it to my son, but as he's now a freshman in high school and (sadly) more interested in video games than books, that would be a fib. The truth is that I loved Andrea Pearson's Mosaic Chronicles series (highly recommended) and after gobbling them up I was looking for anything related from her to feed my addiction.
Having said all that, despite not being the appropriate age group (by several decades) I really enjoyed this book. Yes, it's perfectly appropriate for the middle school audience, but older folks of any age will also enjoy it (my 18 year old book-buddy daughter liked it as much as me).
If you like the Percy Jackson or Harry Potter stories (the standard for high praise in my opinion) then I'm sure you'll enjoy this. It's easy to recommend.
Ember Gods
This is the second book in the Key of Kilenya series. I really enjoyed book one so had to give this book a whirl. I'm glad I did. Yes, it's aimed at middle schoolers but older readers like me will also really enjoy it (and that applies more broadly - my 18 year old book buddy daughter also enjoyed it).
Andrea Pearson does a great job in capturing the spirit of a new young adult, and her characters are well developed, and a lot of fun. Add in a string story line and you've got another winner here.
August Fortress
This is book three of the Kilenya series, and I strongly recommend reading the first two books in the series before this one. Having said that, it's a highly addictive series so I doubt anyone will have any problems doing that. As with the prior books, August Fortress is s great book of magical adventures with strong characters that continue to develop and a neat storyline. A really fun read no matter what your age is, and easy to recommend.
Rise of Keitus
This 4th book in the Kilenya series sees the main character getting stronger in his abilities and more mature while "getting serious" as his opposition gets tougher. It's still the same mix of magical adventure and division between life back at Earth and in the magical realm. The author has done an excellent job of developing her characters and the story continues to grow while staying a lot of fun. Worth the read.
Eyes of the Sun
This is the 2nd to last of the Kilenya novels and, if you've been enjoying the books so far (as I have) then you'll be sure to enjoy this one at least as much.
As in prior books, Andrea Pearson continues to develop Jacob, her main character. Here he learns more about his family, the identity of the Lorkon and what he's told is the last of his magical abilities. He's in a race to be ready in time before having to face Keitus and the other Lorkon. Adventure abounds as the story plot thickens - and enjoyment is pretty much guaranteed. A fun read.
Golden Symbol
All good things must come to an end, and the Kilenya series has been a very good thing indeed. I'm not going to describe the plot, as others have done a good job doing so and I don't want to risk any spoilers, but things do indeed come together for a very satisfying conclusion. It's been a great (six book) run, and the finish is one that it deserved. Loads of fun and most definitely recommended for anyone who has been reading the Kilenya books.
This series is geared towards 9-12 year olds – the approximate age in which I was first discovering fantasy and science fiction reads in my elementary school library. I would definitely have enjoyed this series if it had been available back then (many, many years ago). I consider this a lighter version of epic fantasy quest – without the “grit” I find in adult-themed series.
Each story concludes in its arc, but also moves forward the overall arc of the series.
The Key of Kilenya Book 1 – Kilenya Series I read this in the first box set of the series (books one through three). Our main hero Jacob is 14 years old, and focusing on varsity basketball tryouts for the upcoming school year. Chased by wolves from his back yard, he heads for their treehouse in the woods – only to find himself in a strange land. A portal has transported him to a world (Eklaron) where the inhabitants know of him and the elders have been keeping watch over him. Magical powers develop, and he sets off on a quest to recover the stolen Key of Kilenya (a magical tool, of course ~grin~). With exciting chase scenes, this story was a fun read. I’m looking forward to the second story in the series – and wondering when we’ll find out why he has these powers and why the inhabitants of Eklaron have watched over him as he grew up.
The Ember Gods Book 2 – Kilenya Series I read this in the first box set of the series (books one through three). The cast and characters of book 1 are back, with new foes to defeat. Jacob struggles to master the magical talents from before and develops new ones. No fantasy quest would be complete without a rescue of a team member, and this story does not disappoint. More exciting action scenes, and the source of Jacob’s magical powers are revealed along with other surprises! I am officially hooked on this series.
August Fortress Book 3 – Kilenya Series I read this in the first box set of the series (books one through three). In the world of Eklaron, some of their greatest warriors (Shiengols) against the the bad guys (Lorkon) have been sealed in their fortress for a long number of years. Jacob and the now-familiar cast of characters set out across deadly traps to unseal the fortress and let them out. Heart-stopping action adds to the fun in this series. And we get hints of specific new magical talents that Jacob will likely develop during one of the three upcoming books. Can’t wait to read the next story!
Rise Of Keitus, Book 4 – Kilenya Series I read this book in the box set series of books four through six. More adventures abound, although the danger has greatly increased. During the last two-thirds of the story (possibly even more), I’d have to un-tense my muscles any time I had to break and put the story down – I was always so caught up in the story that my body was acting like I was actually there for all the dangerous parts. ~lol~ Jacob’s character has grown so much during these stories that it’s hard at times to remember that he **is** just a teenager. He learns to use another of his magical abilities, and he discovers even more surprises regarding his family heritage.
Eyes Of The Sun, Book 5 – Kilenya Series I read this book in the box set series of books four through six. Jacob learns to use yet another of his magical abilities – the final one, according to his instructor. He also discovers yet more information about older family members. And the identity of the remaining Lorkon are finally determined. It may have been book 5 of the series, but I still had a difficult time putting it down in order to return to work, do household chores, etc.
The Golden Symbol, Book 6 – Kilenya Series I read this book in the box set series of books four through six. Since book 2 (or maybe even back in book 1), we’ve known that war was coming. And while there have been a number of skirmishes I each book, the big war finally occurs in this story. Jacob combines the use of his many magical abilities, but this is definitely not a one-person war from the good-guys side. So many of the characters contribute abilities, expertise, and creative thinking in attempting to defeat the overwhelming forces on the bad-guys side. I sighed in contentment at the end. The only reason I didn’t pout in disappointment (that the series was over) is because I know several of the characters show up again later in the Mosaic Chronicles. ~lol~
I read the first book first, then I got the 3 book series then finally this edition with all the books. I was trapped in this series from the first book. I got so caught up in the story I ended up finishing all 6 books in around 6-7 days.
The series was a great read that kept you wanting to read more and find out more about it. The books are safe for any ages. There is a bit of romance but it does not have sex in it. There is no swearing either which is great for kids nowadays since a lot of teen books have sex and cursing in them.
There are quite a few twists and turns in the books and it makes it to where you just keep wanting to read more. Jacob's new world is amazing.
The only down side I could find is that it felt like the ending was a bit rushed.
I couldn’t believe it when I finished reading the Kilenya Series last night around 2am! I didn’t realize I was reading the LAST book in the series!!! I just kept reading one book after the other not paying any attention and I was so sad that adventure was all over!!! It’s been my companion while sitting and giving plasma twice a week and sneaking in more reading whenever I could find the time. I really really enjoyed it! Thank you for taking me on such a FUN adventurous ride the last few weeks!!! I’d love if you wrote more about these characters and this world some day. :)
I loved the ingenuity of the author in this fantasy series aimed at teen readers. These books had interesting characters and imaginative adventures. It didn't feel like the same old magic story. I especially liked reading the series as a set because I could go from one to the next and continue the story!
awesome books! loved them. If you are looking for sexy you won't find it here BUT what you will find is a lot of action. The adventure never ends. A little romance is thrown in but not the main focus. Find yourself in another world with danger all around. Find out things about yourself you may not know already. A must read for anyone who loves adventure.
I am a 32 year old loving this. Andrea Pearson has created a wonderful journey full of ups, downs, explosive surprises, magic, and a wide range of emotions. Cleanly written with no swear words (although there is violence), this series is a wonderful adventure for all. And yes, the good guys win.
