While I haven't technically finished Fruits Basket yet, I definitely have an understanding of why people recommend reading this one if you're looking for similar themes. That Wolf-Boy is Mine follows Komugi as she transfers to a new school after facing some horrible events at her old school. When she arrives at her new school she meets Yū Ōgami and they begin to get along very well to the dismay of the other girls at the school. There is a big reveal that I won't discuss because of spoilers, but I loved the relationship between these two characters. It's simple yet really sweet. Yū Ōgami really looks after Komugi and she is very empathetic of his life and background. This is a short manga series (I think about 4 volumes) so I'm definitely invested in finishing especially with the way that the first volume ended!

Actually a quite good manga, with a cute story and a sweet romance. The couple was adorable, though the drawings weren't my cup of tea (though my sister found them very nice).

What a refreshing read!
Komugi moves to Hokkaido from Tokyo after an incident in her social group. It traumatized her but she feels that she did the right thing in standing up for another girl. She meets Yu Ogami, a lazy but outgoing boy who sits next to her.
He tells her the first day of class that she smells good. Turns out he's actually a wolf. Yu is the only "half-animal" so it makes this less "bestiality" lol and easier to go along with.
Can we please give a huge round of applause to Komugi? Because this girl has a good head on her shoulders.
Most shoujo heroines just accept whatever happens without much questioning or they fall for the emotionally manipulative or verbally abusive hero, but not her!
Yu is obviously endgame, though Fushimi is likely going to be part of a love triangle-one I'm okay with because it's going to develop his prickly character.
Fushimi is the tsundere who doesn't trust humans and is doing all he can to protect his friends and family from another incident happening. He's actually a pretty nice guy under all those barbs and tsunderes are my favorite archetype so I'm pretty excited to see the fluff.
Yu is a true "nice guy" character in that he does what he can for others but doesn't sit back hoping for praise. I really enjoyed how Yu and Komugi have this respect for each other and they're trying to deal with the fact that they can't erase her memories and she has this knowledge.
Definitely a different read and I can see the similarities to the classic Fruits Basket manga, but Komugi is a much more active heroine whereas Tohru was more gentle and passive. Not a bad thing, seeing as I really like Tohru, but it's good to see a different heroine.

I hadn't read the summary so I wasn't expecting a Fruit Basket move. Definitely is more light hearted than that though.

I use to complain that I couldn't find clean manga.
More and more that is getting debunked.
That Wolf-Boy is Mine! was extremely clean and was surprised by the slow, casual pace of the romance. Though that ending was a straight up cliffhanger and I was in agony knowing I didn't have volume two on hand. LOL!
I think one of the things that was most surprising is that though there is some slight insta love, the romance was not rushed and it starts out very much acquaintances to friends to what I hope will be a dating couple. There is another character who makes it VERY clear there shouldn't be any kind of developing romance whatsoever, which makes things get interesting.
Not only do we have this new added tension, but there is also it seems like a focus on mending this rift between humans and "shifters." That was one of my favorite parts of this story because while Komugi COULD take the opportunity to be a love-filled MC who is only obsessed with said hero, she cares more that this said character (and the others) sees that not all humans are bad or uncaring. That was awesome!
I would be DEEPLY curious in reading book two because that ending was just…I don't know! Like why did so-and-so character say what they did?! (I'm not saying names because when I casually flipped through the manga before reading and I thought one character said the said thing in question, but I was wrong. So I'm not potentially spoiling that for anyone.)
It is a lot slower paced, and if you don't mind a slower manga (but with fantastic art), then I would recommend this one! That Wolf-Boy is Mine! has a smattering of Japanese folklore (which I LOVED! Those notes at the end were awesome!) and is sure to have a super sweet growing romance in the continued volumes!

This was so cute! The plot was a little confusing at times and it was a little rushed, but I get it's a shorter manga so I see why they did it. Definitely carrying on with this one!

"That Wolf-Boy is Mine!" is a fun, silly small-town high school manga, with a twist.
Komugi decides to live with her father after she is alienated by her classmates in Tokyo. Now in a new school, she ends up sitting next to one of the most popular boy in school. She does what she can to avoid him, but then she decides to ignore what other people think and hang out with whoever she wants.
Not all is as it seems, though, as Komugi soon discovers that Ogami is actually a wolf!
Even though I knew that going in, the twist still managed to throw me a bit. The build up to it was nice, with just enough of a hint that something was up but not seeming too out of place. Ogami just seems like you friendly neighborhood weirdo rather than something supernatural early on, after all.
Probably may favorite part about this was the characters. It's hard to dislike any of them, even the more prickly tsundere character, Yu. And Komugi, unlike many shoujo heroines out there, has a backbone and is willing to stand up to thegroupies other girls at her school when they try to tell her not to hang out with the hot guys at school. I love female characters who are willing to call other people on their BS, and Komugi is no exception.
I enjoyed this manga, and hopefully the next volume keeps it strong.

I came upon this manga accidentally and was LITERALLY SHOCKED by the name and I just had to leave all books I've been reading and start this short series of manga. It was a very...personal case.... why I so wanted to read a book only by the name of the book...which personally means a lot to me. And I truly liked this first volume: animals-humans and their human friend. (Kind of reminded me of "Twilight", except this is cute manga with nice drawing style) I am not a fan of heterosexual manga, but I will give an exception for this. Except I didn't quite like Komugi... If there's any fandom to this new manga- I will ship Ookami and Miyama.

I can see why folk see this as a spiritual successor to Fruits Basket! While Komugi is nowhere near the same archetype as Tohru (sweet, nurturing, kind, somewhat passive much of the time) it does have some of those hallmarks.
School "Princes" who are beloved and hold themselves aloof, one is super friendly, one is (I'm sorry Fushimi) tsundere, one who is a bit reckless, one who is outwardly indifferent.
The art is pretty and I generally liked the pacing. It comes off a bit like Twilight tho in some dynamics (Komugi & her father, the constant push for Komugi to leave them alone for her own good, their inability to obliviate her like all other girls) but I loved how...pragmatic Komugi was.
"My classmates are animal spirits in human form but they won't hurt me so why make a big deal?" Really I think she finds them as tiresome as a couple find her, but they all need a connection.

This manga started off resembling Twilight, except with a sensible female lead and an overly friendly male lead. Then it took a turn towards Fruits Basket. For some reason, I also got a vibe of Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers) from this one. And of course, some Shoujo cliche. Still, this was such a cute story and turned out to be one awesome read.

I just cant get into this. I keep trying to understand romantic genre of manga. I dont get it. The illustrations arent bad. In fact the illustrations are way too good. It pisses me off that this is the story that their telling. It makes me think about the amazing potential of Nogiri. I really wish some new angle was explored because the illustrations are top tier.

Este primer tomo me ha recordado a Fruits Basket. Pero lo he encontrado mono. Habrá que ver como evoluciona la historia, este volumen me ha dejado un poco a medias.

Komugi, the new girl in town, discovers their secret, and they discover, much to their dismay, that their powers of hypnotism don't work on her (why not? who the heck knows). Now they have to trust that she'll keep their secret. at only four volumes, I will probably complete the series.

My initial reaction after finishing this was...
Dude... you can't go swooning a girl and then end up doing what you did... that is so wrong on so many levels.
RATING: 4.5 stars cutesy wolfy stars
I wasn't intending to read this manga, but since it was free on Kindle Unlimited, I gave it a go. To my surprise, I ended up loving it. It's funny though, it really reminded me of Twilight where instead of shapeshifters, we get vampires.
LONG STORY SHORT: Cute girl meets cute shapeshifter and friends.
MY THOUGHTS:
- I liked our heroine, Komugi Kusunoki. She was running from her past but then eventually faced it head on even when she risked being in the same situation as she did before.
- I love our Ayakashis (Ayakashi is a blanket term for supernatural beings or events). They all had their own personalities, I'm guessing based on the anim that they shape shift into.
- The panels weren't hard to follow. Thank goodness! One of the reasons I avoided mangas are because of some terrible panelling.
- The illustrations were divine!
- So I am obsessed with reverse harem in anime and in mangas. I'm so happy this was one. Let me know if you know of others.
- The reason I couldn't give this 5 stars is because I feel the mythos behind our Ayakashis weren't expounded more. I would have wanted to have learned more about them through dialogue and stuff i stead of having a glossary towards the end. I appreciate the glossary but I would prefer if the exposition was part of the narrative.
- Yu and Komogi are so cute together. Their interactions made me giggle and swoon like a teenage girl.
If you're looking for a manga with a cutesy, sweet romance that will keep you reading for more, I highly recommend this.

This was super cute. I read all 4 books and it had me hooked. I wish there was more! I feel that it was a satisfying ending but, I wish there was more depth into Komugi and Yu relationship.

Komugi Kusunoki has temporarily shifted from Tokyo to rural Hokkaido to start a new school year in Maruyama High School. After a socially traumatic experience in her past school, Komugi has fervently decided to stay under the radar and avoid the ire of the popular girls. But suddenly, Yu Ogami, her sleepy classmate. claims that she smells good and after the creepy pronouncement, decides to be friends with Komugi. Watching the jealous fans of Ogami already baying for blood, Komugi has a bigger problem at hand when she discovers that Yu is a wolf in human form. And not only, but the other three boys of the popular Muryama idol clique (Rin Fushimi, Aoshi Awaji and Senri Miyama) are also animals in human form.
Thus begins an unlikely friendship between a girl who just wanted to be invisible and a group of supernatural boys who want to make sure that Komugi never reveals their secret to others.

There is ample scope for humour, soul-searching and even a potential love-triangle. These are familiar Shoujo tropes that are comforting if handled with wit and humor. I will definitely be following this cute tale because I will always be a sucker for wolf-boys and girls who stand up for themselves.

Just when I think I've limited myself down when it comes to manga series... they release one that just screams "MARKETED FOR YOU." To be honest, I did read mostly shonen (action-type like DBZ, YuYu Hakusho, etc.) manga when I first started with the occasional shoujo (romance-type such as Fruits Basket, Boys Over Flowers, etc.) series.
Nowadays, it seems quite the reverse, though I still indulge in my shonen anime (i.e. Toriko, Ushio & Tora, and Food Wars). My new manga series tend to fall within the shoujo category BUT most if not all of my recent pick-ups involve... wait for it... elements of the supernatural and/or magical. And this series is no different as judging by the title (clearly no spoilers here).
