Someone tried to kill Kayli Winchester. That someone is going to pay.

After going overboard and nearly drowning, Kayli regroups and joins Axel, Corey, Brandon, Marc, and Raven back on board the Lucienda. This time, she's brought reinforcements. Liam and Henry join the team in an all-out hunt for a killer. It can't be too hard; there's only so many places to hide on a cruise ship. But the number of suspects is climbing.

Tensions are high, and everyone is on alert, but along the way, there's way too many distractions--very hot distractions. Kayli's done hiding her feelings. She's showing her hand, come what may. She's never held back before she met this team--why start now?

But when one of their team members disappears, all clues point to mutiny. Is the team going to fracture because of her? Did someone throw her overboard because of jealousy?

Kayli refuses to believe it, but she'll have to provide proof before the murderer finds out she's still alive and comes back to complete the job.

OK... The 5th book in The Scarab Beetle series didn't do much for me. Maybe because there's been quite a while since I read the previous 4 books and the momentum is just simply gone. I had forgotten the 'group' chemistry and happenings. I guess it's always the risk factor with series.

I always loved Raven's character. I have something for book-Russians. Exotic... yet not really because Russians are just across the border from me and plenty of them in Estonia. So, that would allow me to always put a critical eye to the Russian characters in books- are they well done or not. Raven is.

The only, and I mean the only, bit I loved about this book was Raven and Corey's development. That was truly and utterly HOT! Raven and Corey are extremes to each other in terms of their personalities but I could see them working out so so so well. I think I'm actually going to highlight this section in the book and read it again... that was intense! :D

Other than that, as said, I had forgotten the stories 'crime' line and the momentum was just gone for me and I skipped quite a bit of 'pondering' bits in the book just to get the lowdown and move on.

Will I read the next book or will I stop with the series here? I wouldn't not know the answer to this.

The plot was so dumb and the characters so inept that it completely outweighed any redeeming features the romance might have had for me. It's like a bad spy movie written by an adolescent who never bothered to do any research or actually work out the plot properly.

So many ridiculous things about that whole ship thing that I can't even name them all.

Couldn't get into this one and it makes me so sad. I've never been a fan of Kayli before, but instead of disliking her in this book, I just found myself bored with her. I wasn't even frustrated with her decisions like I usually am. I just didn't care. And the boys barely had any time to shine.

I think I might shelf this series from here on out. I only read it for the sake of loving Sang and her boys and hoping for cameos.

But that doesn't change the fact that I'm still OBSESSED with the Ghost Bird series and I will pretty much devour anything about Victor, North, Silas, and the others, even if it's adorable mundane tasks such as painting Sang's toenails and not-really-watching horror movies. That series has always been one of my favorites from the get-go and it's an insta-recommend every single time.

Bye, Kayli. Won't really miss you.

xoxo

At the end of book 4, Kayli and Blake were thrown overboard. Were they getting to close to revealing who was stealing money from Ethan, or was one of the guys in the Academy group upset because Kayli finally admitted that she has been flirting with all of them and is unable to choose among them? Kayli and Blake make it back to the ship and try to figure out who was responsible for their attempted murders and what was the motive. Unfortunately, one of her guys is a main suspect. Lots of things happen in this book that distracts Kayli from the original mission - she must figure out who threw her overboard, she gets a nasty head injury that affects her memory, and she reconnects with each of the guys and weighs their acceptance of her being involved with each of them.

I'm completely addicted to both this series and the Ghost Bird series. I am supremely upset that the next installment of this one was due in late 2017 and isn't available yet, especially given the ending of this book. Gah! I have to find out what happens!!!! You guys know that I am not the most patient of readers when it comes to an unfinished series! I guess the best I can do is mark it as want to read and cross my fingers that it will be out soon.

I'm giving Hoax 4 stars and a place in my favorites shelf.

Can you believe it?
I still can't believe it. Specially because it takes place right after Accessory which I STILL HATE WITH ALL MY GUTS.

Too much fluff, not enough explanation. Unrealistic acceptance from the guys, their strong personalities just willingly giving the heroine everything with no questions asked. It's not the characters she has built in the previous novels. I expected a little resistance before agreeing, not just rolling over and giving in with no second thought and having the guy from the other team explain to them all at once so we didn't get their reactions until afterwards was a huge cop out. Extremely disappointed. And of course, GET AN EDITOR!

Ok, this book was kind of all over the place. Kayli isn't in the academy but they are doing jobs. Also, this job was WAY above them. WTF were they doing? Also, Kayli sustained some MAJOR injuries and needed actual medical care frequently but she got a few aspirin and went about her day. And now she has slept with Blake and Axel and nearly watched Raven give Corey and hand job. All while they are in grave danger and she has a serious concussion. What is happening...

I have to admit, I didn't start out liking this series as much as the Ghostbird one since the characters and the overall feel of this series was so different, but with the last 2 books (Accessory and Hoax), i'm having to re-evaluate some of my earlier thoughts on this series.

Tensions are extremely high in this book and I found myself flying through the book and craving the next one (Tempest, I think its going to be called?) much like a sugar deprived kid in a candy store with no supervision (lol). I think I may want this next book more than 'Black and Green', which is almost sacrilegious to me since, hellooo its Mr. Blackbourne and Sean's book! But that just goes to show how great this series is turning out to be.

I admit that even though I got 'Accessory' when it was released right away, I sort of might have skimmed through it and pushed it aside without much vigor since I was more into re-reading the GB series again (for the 5th? 6th? time again). Soooo.... I actually had to re-read the previous book THEN read this one and i'm so glad I did because the cliffhanger at the end of Accessory might just have been the biggest cliffhanger to cliffhang them all.

Kayli matures a lot more in this book but I feel that Blake had the most character development of all the characters thus far. You really do see how much he cares about her because .

But omg, what was with that revelation about Kayli near the end C.L?!?! I legit found myself doing the 'scream' face because I felt so bad for her! I'm starting to think you might have a thing for putting the heroine's in troubling medical situations LOL but I haven't read the other books like 'Spice God' and 'Smoking Gun' (i think they're called) so I have yet to prove that theory.

Either way guys, if you have the chance then definitely read this series because even though the first 2 books are kinda meh and the 3rd one starts getting a little more interesting, the last book and this book more than makes up for everything because you finally see the carefully laid out plot in the first 3 books finally come into play. You won't regret it!

I loved this book but then again I love both series of the Academy boys. I couldn't believe everything that happened, had many moments where I would have a mini freak out about what was happening in the book. Now I just have to wait for the next one!

I have to give 2 stars to a book I was forced to skim everything but the romance in. The romance angles- PLURAL🙌🏼- are so good, but the rest of this series is BEYOND ridiculous. As in, unreadable ridiculous. A bunch of kids running around solving (incredibly uninteresting) crimes the FBI should be handling is laughable, but I just can’t resist the reverse harem allure. I had to abandon her Ghostbird series, it was just too immature and YA. But this series is so much more fulfilling... and after this book you better believe I’m buying the next one because things. are. getting. goooooood.😍

Hoax begins when Kayli is thrown overboard by someone trying to kill her. She and Blake make it back to the boat to help the guys, and figure out what's going to happen next. But, as they start to investigate again, Kayli and all the guys end up finding out how they really feel about each other, and if they wish to have a relationship with Kayli.

As they get distracted with relationship drama, more and more people seem to be after Kayli and no one knows why or who.
But, that won't stop Kayli no matter what, she will do what needs to be done to make sure her friends are safe and to help their case.

This book was really good. It had a whole lot of drama and really showed some of Kayli and the guys will be going through. Now, it didn't giveaway every thing that will happen with them, but it gave a small idea. And the ending was pretty crazy as well. I can't believe all of this is happening to her at once. And now, I super excited for the next book!

its a nice read but i didn't like it as much as the first parts. kayli and the boys were running around the cruise ship a lot, just like in the previous part. it was hard to keep track on where everyone was and the running around kept going on for so long i kinda lost interest. the love shizzle takes a turn that keeps me saying u-huh, suuuuure in my mind. highly unlikely. but still, fun to read. i am a sucker for love shizzle, can't help it

God damn these fucking books. Ugh. Who knows when the next one will come out.

Overall this Scarab Beetle series hasn't topped the Ghost Bird, I love the "adult" element and lemme just say... Raven and Corey.... Whew!!!!!!!!!!!! HOT!

The plot sucked, I want more on her relationships w the guys... we will see what then next one brings.... whenever then next one comes out.

I love this group

I am a little worried by how easy the boys are accepting this new relationship. I wish the story had not spent so much focus on running around after random characters. Enclosed on a ship would have been the perfect time to force conversations. I was glad to be reading about the group but would have enjoyed more interaction with the core characters.

SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I loved this book! It gave me all of the feels and it sucks that I have finally caught up and now I have to wait for the next book to come out. The book was fast paced and constantly had my attention. It picked up right where Accessory left off with Kayli and Blake in the motel with Liam. It starts off with them waking up to go get back on the boat. I was actually surprised how quickly they got back.
Kayli has grown so much since the first book yet she is still who she has always been. Her personality is the same but she isn't holding back anymore when it comes to her feelings for the boys. She got everything out and in the open and told them that she couldn't choose. That takes courage and it made her be more open with her heart and finally realizing that there could be a major consequence for her actions. She also found out about Corey and his feelings, but he still hasn't got a kiss which I'm kind of mad about.
Also, we found out that Raven is bisexual as well as Corey and he has feelings for both Kayli and Corey. Apparently, he has known about Corey's feelings for him for a while and he knew that Corey had feelings for Kayli as well. I just want to say that I called it in book 2 when we found out that Corey had a crush on someone but they didn't say who. I had a feeling it was Raven all along.
I was actually surprised at the boys reactions to finding about each other. None of them seemed to have a problem with it. They didn't blow up or even act like it really affected them. The only thing they seemed a little mad about was Kayli's feelings for Blake. I can't really blame them for that. I am very curious how the Academy is going to take this when they find out. I do know from book 10 of The Ghost Bird, that Kayli goes to Academy Camp with the boys as a possible recruit. At the end, Marc goes into meet with the council to try to convince them to let her on their team. He comes out later and Kayli says "What? I'm out, aren't I?". Marc then says, "No. But you're not going to like it.". This leads me to believe that the Academy says she can join their team, but she might have to stay away from Blake to do so.
There are so many thoughts and theories going on in my head right now, I can't think. I just know that it is going to be a long wait until Love's Cruel Redemption (The Ghost Bird #12) and Tempest (The Scarab Beetle #6). I love C.L. Stone's writing and I can't wait to read he next installment!

Current Rankings:
1. Raven
2. Axel
3. Marc
4. Brandon
5. Corey
6. Blake

C. L. Stone is easily one of my absolute favourite authors out there. I could easily jump into any one of her books and know that I am going to love it! It has been a while since I read the previous book in this series and I didn’t feel like I was missing any information or that I needed to go back and remind myself as to what happened.

This book starts exactly where the previous one left off. There is no time lapse in between the ending of the previous book and the start of this book, which I quite like because there was no explanation needed as to what had happened in between. I don’t want to go into too much because of spoilers, but it was easy to remember what had happened within the previous books.

I absolutely LOVE Kayli as a character. She completely slays everything she does, but at the same time she has her character flaws, which keeps her relatable to the readers. I enjoyed reading her interactions with all of the boys and the way in which the relationships grew and changed as the circumstances began to change – the relationship dynamic has become something completely different and I cannot wait to see how it continues to grow throughout the next book!

The plot of this book was fast paced and kept me on my toes throughout. There was always new information coming out and the twists and turns that revealed themselves throughout kept me hooked. This was a really quick read for me purely because I was loving every second of it – both plot wise and character wise.

Please excuse me whilst I go for a cold shower! The scenes between Kayli and the various boys (don’t judge it before you read it) was absolutely amazing and, as mentioned, I needed a cold shower! There was such a connection between her and each one of the boys and the dynamic between each of them helped keep each relationship fresh and interesting. I also liked the way that the author represented a gay couple – they were absolutely adorable and I cannot wait to see their relationship (finally) develop and grow, along with the relationship dynamic with Kayli.

All in all, I LOVED this book and this author is most definitely one of my favourites. I cannot even wait for the next book in this series and I am so looking forward to the way things play out – especially after the ending with Raven. I gave this book 5/5 stars.

After the last book in the series picking up the pace, I was hopeful that this one might continue with that momentum but I was left very disappointed. As per the other books in the series, we pick up where we left off with Kayli being thrown overboard and struggling to get to land with Blake. They make it back to the ship and try to figure out who was responsible for their attempted murders and what was the motive. Unfortunately, one of Kayli’s guys is a main suspect. Lots of things happen in this book that distracts Kayli from the original mission - she must figure out who threw her overboard, she gets a nasty head injury that affects her memory, and she reconnects with each of the guys and they try to come to terms with her relationships with them all.

The plot really took a nosedive in this book and it felt hugely overcomplicated. There were so many holes and the inaccuracies and typos were really starting to grate on me. Sometimes it wasn’t clear who was speaking or who they were speaking to, there were almost no romantic interactions, the boys barely played a part at all and everyone seemed to have forgotten about Wil. The addition of new characters didn’t help or add value either.

I will read the next one in the series as I already have it on my Kindle but I don’t have high expectations at this point.

These books give me so much anxiety, but they’re like crack! I seriously can’t look away. The plot ‘twist’ revealed in this one was super predictable from the moment they boarded the ship, but that’s okay.

Kayla drives me absolutely INSANE. She’s the most reckless and ridiculous character possibly ever. Like she’s sick, having memory issues, knows there is something physically wrong and still insists on rushing in, following, ignoring requests for her to stay put. They have to physically restrain her to keep her from rushing out and putting other people’s lives at risk! I get that she wants to help, but she just doesn’t know when to step back and let more experienced people take the reins. Even thinking that their little ragtag band of an academy team (that specializes in information gathering FYI) should somehow be the ones responsible for a full take down and money recovery because she doesn’t want to hand the info off to the authorities and not get the thrill of the takedown?? Wtf is wrong with the girl.

Pretty good

I definitely enjoyed this one more. The previous one was a but boring until I got toward the end. This book had more adventures and craziness which I seem to enjoy.
I've decided to ignore the weirdness because I enjoy the storyline otherwise.
Pretty curious as to how things will work out still though. I really wish I knew more about her brother.
As for the connection to the Ghost Bird series, it really annoys me that this one isn't caught up to that one yet. So it confuses me trying to figure out when in the Ghost Bird series I am as I read this series because in book 10 of Ghost Bird there was mention of this team at Academy camp and they all crossed paths and Sang met Kayli and I really want Kayli's point of view of camp and the meeting because I know their experiences would have been quite different. Yet this series is not quite there. I just want to know when we'll get there!
Anyway. I'm rambling now. Good book. Interesting.

Three stars for the romance portion of the plot - the book does a good job of moving several of the relationships and the full reverse harem group forward. The rest of the plot, though, was a little confusing. It picks up right where Accessory leaves off, but the twists and turns basically add up to a muddled final conclusion, **Spoiler: possibly because Kayli gets a concussion about halfway through and is losing time and focus. How much of the denouement is simply saving Kayli versus accomplishing the mission is unclear.

Great series!

The Academy is awesome! I waited forever to read scarab beetle because I didn’t think I would like Kayli. I was completely wrong. I really like her and the guys are just as awesome as Sang’s guys. Now I have to wonder if Blake is going to join the academy and if Kevin is going to leave or join a different team. We already know Kayli is going to be at the camp trying to join. She seemed so angry while talking to Sang. I can’t wait for the next books for both Academy series.
