In a town ruled by sin, will he earn her love or her lies?

Dodge City, Kansas – 1877

Sadie Sullivan lost everything when a herd of longhorn cattle bound for Dodge City trampled and destroyed her farm. Now she works in Dodge—one of the most wicked and lawless towns in the West—at the Northern Star saloon. But her survival in this new world of sin and violence depends on maintaining a lie so deadly it could end her life before the town of Dodge can.

The one man capable of unraveling all of Sadie's secrets is Noah Ballantyne, the Texan rancher whose herd destroyed her home. Back in town and taking up the role of deputy alongside legendary lawman Bat Masterson, Noah vows he won't leave until he's made things right. But with the saloon’s madam unwilling to release Sadie and a rich cattle baron wanting her as well, the odds aren’t in favor of finding love…or leaving town alive.

A Word Painter who crafts an excellent story! I loved the twists and turns this book takes. You never knew what was around the next corner. How does a woman survive one of the worst brothels in Dodge City? By inventing a lie and preying on men's fears. This story of a woman caught up in something from which she can't escape oozes with suspense. It's gritty and raw and ties your stomach in knots. Sadie fights to save herself in the only way she knows and finds herself mired in the lie that will get her killed in the end. She knows the only escape is death. Then the unthinkable happens. In the midst of it all, she falls in love and shifts her focus into saving the man who holds the key to her heart. I loved how Jacqui Nelson turns Sadie's concern for herself to someone who matters even more--Texas rancher Noah Ballantyne. She can't bear the thought of the pure evil surrounding her to touch his life as well. Guilt that he might die trying to save her drives her to take a drastic step that almost costs her everything. Yet, she's willing to risk whatever she must for one more night in Noah's arms. Even if the price is too high.

Noah Ballantyne is tough as steel and can draw and shoot before his opponents can blink. He wants only one thing--Sadie Sullivan--and he won't leave Dodge City without her. I loved how fiercely he fights for her. He can put his boots under my bed anytime! It doesn't hurt either that he's drop-dead gorgeous!

Jacqui has woven a rich and multi-layered story against the backdrop of Dodge City, Kansas, a place known as Sin City. She paints such a vivid picture with colorful, descriptive words that plant images in your head. She's very gifted and I can't wait to see what she writes next. If you want a top-shelf historical western romance, you won't go wrong with this.

Between Love and Lies by Jacqui Nelson takes the reader back to Doge when the west was wild and dangerous. Texas cowboy, Noah, has accidentally destroyed Sadie's farm. Or rather, his longhorns have. To compensate, he gives Sadie's father enough money to rebuild. But Sadie's pa gambles away the money and sells Sadie to Madam Gertie. A year later, making another trail dive to Dodge, Noah is plagued with memories of Sadie. Hoping to find her and see for himself the money he gave has indeed saved her farm, he's shocked to find her singing in the local saloon. Worse, she's a sick prostitute dealing stud and in need of help. But Sadie has other plans that don't include accepting the cowboy's help or his apologies. Her friend has been murdered and it's up to her to identify the guilty person and fight her way out of Dodge to a better life.

Ripe with twists and turns, Between Love and Lies captures not only the dangers of living in Dodge, but a wonderful thought-out story of a rough and tumble cowboy trying his best to right a wrong and earn forgiveness, and a strong heroine who expertly handles the horrible situation she's been forced into. With secondary characters who entertain and make the reader think, this is a great story. I enjoyed how Ms. Nelson included Bat Masterson in the plot. Some of his lines were and mannerisms were funny.

Dodge City, Kansas 1877 This is the first story I have read by this author and all I can say is it will not be the last! I was pulled in from the prologue and felt I was there as the cattle destroyed Sadie's farm. The dust, the noise, the hopelessness she felt all came off the pages by this author's amazing descriptive words!
Unfortunately, Sadie ended up working in Dodge at the saloon where there was not much law and a lot of rough and wicked people. Worst of all working for Gertie Garrett, no make that owned by her, kept her on a tight lease and with all the rowdy men coming in from the cattle drive, she would have a hard time keeping up her lies. But who would she spot but Noah, that cattle drover who destroyed her home!
Noah couldn't believe that the beautiful farm girl he had seen last year was at the salon dressed as one of the "ladies." He vowed he would make things right from destroying her home and get her out of that saloon.
I really could not read this fast enough. Fate seemed to bring these two together. Now, if they only could manage to come together, stay alive and get out of Dodge! Do not miss this story of finding love in the least expected way, while dodging those forces that are hard to be controlled!! Cannot wait to read more.

At their first meeting Noah is driving cattle that end up stampeding though the property where Sadie lives with her father. The cattle destroyed Sadie's meager belongs and even though Noah gave her father money to compensate, he never got Sadie out of his head. The next time they meet is a year later when Noah went to Dodge to find Sadie and he finds her working in a brothel. Finding out Sadie has been forced from her home Noah vows to make things right, but when he sees her again he starts to make other plans. Can he convince Sadie to give him a chance? Even though Western romance is not my genre of first choice I found this author's writing to be very engaging and the book very hard to put down. I enjoyed the characters and the story very much!

Sadie and Noah meet on a fateful day when he is moving a heard of cattle from Texas to Dodge. The cattle completely ruin her farm land. They take away all that she worked so hard to have. A spark is ignited, but unknown. Noah pays for the damage and then leaves to complete his job. A year later, Noah returns to Dodge with a new set of cattle. He is searching for the flame haired beauty that hasn't left his mind from the year before. He finds her in the most unlikely place. A brothel. He decides to stay behind in Dodge until her can make up for his destroying her farm from the year before. A great love story. I loved the fact that it wasn't easy and they had to fight to be together. I look forward to reading additional books from this author. - I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Between Love and Lies was a sensational read ! Noah Ballantyne drove his Longhorns through the farm that Sadie Sullivan lived with her father, trying to save her home from the stampeding herd was not successful !They destroyed everything ,her garden to the home she lived in . Trying to rectify her loss Noah gives money to her father . For Sadie her life went downhill, the money Noah had given was gone and her father trying to catch one more winning hand sold her to the towns brothel . For one year Noah thought about her , and for that one year Sadie lived by her wits. Will Noah and Sadie have a chance at love? Can the lie Sadie has woven destroy her once and for all? Jacqui Nelson weaves a wonderful treat of romance and suspense ! A true storyteller you won't be disappointed ! This was my first book and it definitely won't be the last!!!!

Dodge City in the 1870s was no place for a respectful woman. But, when a herd of longhorns stampedes through her farm and their accompanying ticks destroy her small herd of cows, Sadie Sullivan is left with no choice. She's clever enough, and full of enough pluck to outwit most of the underbelly of Dodge, but she's short on two things–luck and money. Noah comes barging back into her life much as he did when his cattle stampeded her farm a year earlier and with him she begins to believe her luck may not be gone for good. Noah is my kind of hero–strong, handsome, rugged, stalwart, sensitive. And Sadie? She's got more grit in her than a woman should need. This is a highly romantic story of love overcoming all odds. And it's told beautifully by Ms. Nelson. Wonderful job.

This historical western romance opens with a cattle stampede and had me hooked from the first page! Jacqui Nelson definitely knows how to grab her readers' attention and keep it with her descriptive writing style. Powerful cattle barons, fancy gamblers, and ruthless saloon madams are just some of the colorful characters that she uses to populate the infamous wild west town of Dodge City, Kansas. I was delighted when famous old west legends, Bat Masterson and Wyatt Earp also made appearances. The intrigue and danger following the main characters Noah and Sadie through out the book make for a gripping and extremely satisfying read.

A beautifully classic historical romance recommended especially for genre enthusiasts but also readers who enjoy a perfectly constructed love story that does not lack one two many bumps, heartwarming sacrifices in the name of true love and a thrilling dinamic main characters relationship . Packed with emotions, suspense and action, twists and turns at every turn, this read will not disappoint.

Started out a little slow and took a little while for it to take off but once it did you are hooked. What can be worse than losing your home to a bunch of cattle that plowed it down? That would be to lose your freedom to a Madam who buys you and puts you to work as a saloon girl. Life has not been easy for Sadie since her mother past away years ago. Her father is a dunk and loves to gamble which will be his undoing but not before the paves the way for Sadie future at Madam Gertie house of ill repute. Sadie is on a mission to help a friend find justice. There is no way she can leave until she does what she has promised. Sadie has a BIG secret that could get her killed if it gets out, you won’t believe what this women is willing to do to keep herself safe from those that want her in their bed.

A year ago Noah cattle destroyed Sadie’s home he has come back to right that wrong. No one is more shocked then he when he finds her in a saloon, she might be signing but she has done much worse with the body and he is to blame. He carries a lot of weight on his shoulders, so many he has failed and his eyes done wrong and no way to correct that. This is one time he will do right getting her out of this mess and back where she belongs. The only thing in his way is one bullhead stubborn women named Sadie who won’t leave no matter what the cost.

The author does what she is very good at weaving a believable story full of excitement, adventure, danger wrapping it around death, evil, revenge, hurt, pain and sorrow following it up with a very touching heart search romance. I really liked the plot and the strength of Sadie. She is full of herself and she fools not only the madam but the men who chase after her with one word she has them running the other way. There is a little mystery as the plot unfolds with lots of action as two people work to right wrongs. They must learn to trust each other and work together to bring the evil in this town to its knees. This whole story is based on lies by so many. We are taught from a young ages lying is wrong one of the worse things you can do. But I have to say if I was in Sadie’s shoes I would follow right in her footsteps and lie through my teeth. As with all true love there is nothing more precious and worth saving then the person you hold the dearest to your heart. You will even put yourself in harm’s way to keep those you love safe. The story starts out all about Sadie and her friend how she can keep herself safe and men at arms link. It doesn’t take her long to but others before her and putting her life on the line to save the man she loves.

This author is well known for her strong characters in men and women as she gives us lesson on love, what is right and how to bring excitement into our lives. I was holding my breath hoping for the best but not expecting it. Wardell is one character I didn’t like from the start and turns out I had reason not to. A few surprised me like John and Cora. Gertie is a whole other basket of eggs, at some point they will have to crack leaving you wondering who will be left standing. The characters are really, normal and for the most part down to earth. Ms. Nelson really brings the West to life with her delightful stories and wonderful characters you can relate to. They pull you in holding you tight as the plot unfolds leaving you holding your breath.

It did take me awhile to get into this story it starts out slow but by the time Norah starts rocking the boat it get very interesting leaving you holding on as the boat just about tips over. There are some wonderful characters here and some you really aren’t going to like. I loved the excitement, the breath holding moments, the danger and the thrill of not knowing. It was a fun read that really has you right in the mix yelling at the characters as well as a feeling of lose for a time. The ending is great I just loved it. Men can be so silly and unable to read what is before their eyes. They do things that make them look silly but then so do some women. All in all I was thrilled at being held on the edge jumping at every turn waiting to see the outcome.

The chemistry in this book sizzles from the very first pages. The characters come to life with vibrant color and intensity that makes this book impossible to put down.

When Noah Ballantyne's longhorns stampede out of control, he never estimates the damage and devastation they will leave behind - wrecking small farms and leaving their owners penniless and destitute. Trying to do the right thing, Noah leaves money in his wake, but can't shake the feeling that he owes something more. Desperate to find the stalwart red-headed beauty that both threatened him with her gun and broke his heart with her tears, Noah heads back to the land he destroyed searching for the girl that haunts his dreams.

What he finds is far worse then he thought possible. The beautiful vibrant girl he's left behind has become a lady of the night. Sick and pale, but signing with a voice of an angel to the men that come to gamble and satisfy their lust, Noah spots the beautiful Sadie on stage showing off for the paying customers. The sight nearly destroys Noah's soul. He must right this wrong he's caused. He won't leave Dodge until he's ensured that he's done something to help Sadie. Something to make up at least a little bit for all the pain he's caused.

Sadie's hardened her heart to the world. After she's been sold and betrayed by those who were meant to protect her, she has nothing left but her wit and a promise to a friend long gone that she will fulfill his dying wish. Although weak and backed into a corner, Sadie won't leave Dodge until her promise is fulfilled. She will retrieve Edward's missing possessions and avenge his death if it is the last thing she does, and it may very well be. When she spots a familiar face walk into the saloon, she can hardly breath. It's the face of the man who took everything from her. A face she never thought she'd see again. A face that left her in the dust and never looked back. Now he is back triggering too many emotions for her to even begin to contemplate.

The only hope Noah has to help Sadie is to earn her trust, but for a woman who's been betrayed before she values her secrets more than she values her life. Sadie's worked so hard towards avenging her friend that she can't let anything come in the way of her carefully laid out plan. Not even a handsome cowboy who beguiles her with his every move and smile. Sadie understands that her plans may cost her her life, but she never counts on her heart being on the line. Noah comes with a plan to make amends and head back to Texas, but his plan may cost him his life. Someone wants Sadie silenced. Permanently. In order to help her, Noah will be gambling much more than he could have ever thought possible, but what he stands to gain will be much more than he ever could have dreamed.

The romance between Noah and Sadie is electrifying. It blazes with an intensity that will leave the reader spellbound. The characters are well developed and memorable. The plot is exciting with twists and a brilliant mix of suspense and action. For readers of romance, westerns, or just good novels in general, Between Love and Lies is a must read. It's a keep on your favorite-book-shelf shelf type of book. It's the kind of book where you can't read it fast enough to know what happens while simultaneously never wanting it to end. Definitely a 5 star novel!

Disclosure: I received a free copy in return for an honest review, but I've read Jacqui Nelson before and I would have gladly bought this book and of course left the same review because her writing is so wonderful. Between Love and Lies is a beautiful escape into another time and into a great romance you won't forget.

I'm thrilled to have discovered the books of Jacqui Nelson! From the very beginning of the main characters' back breaking existence on her tiny ranch I knew I had struck Historical American Romance gold. I found an emotionally compelling, and deviously twisted storyline of lust, greed, and murder that held me in its grasp and wouldn't let me go until the oh-so-satisfying conclusion. Life in Dodge City in the mid 1870's, with cowboys, gamblers, prostitution and debauchery swallows poverty stricken Sadie Sullivan leaving her no chance for a normal life until a stranger from her past arrives, compelled to save her and to make up for his unwittingly participation in her deadly circumstances. On every page I felt her steely determination, her clawing desperation and the tender feelings that Noah's presence brings out in her, despite her insistence that he must leave her be. Brimming with historical details and the appearance of some familiar historical characters, this dramatic love story will steal your breath and pull at your heartstrings. You can't help but fall in love with historical romance that is this expertly crafted and I can't wait to devour the next book in this awesome series.

Time to go Back to Dodge
Between Love and Lies is a historical romance set in Dodge, Kansas in 1876, during the days of Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson. It’s filled with adventure, romance and enough plot twists to keep the pages flying faster than a gunslinger’s hand.
The Wild West is a place where anything can happen, where lawmen fight hard for justice and evil men often got their way. Jacqui Nelson draws this world with a delicate hand, letting us feel the grit and danger of the times. Her detailed setting becomes an integral character in the story.
Dodge is not a place for a young, innocent woman to find herself when her luck runs out. But petite, red-headed Sadie Sullivan has enough backbone for an army, and brains to boot. Despite the horrible situation her father and fate deal her, she fights to regain her independence and respect.
Getting what she wants involves a bit of sleuthing, and the handsome Texan keeps casting his shadow on her plans. Can she retrieve a hidden treasure, avenge the death of a friend and set herself free? And what the heck is she supposed to do with all the stirred-up feelings the cowboy gives her?
Noah Ballantyne, the Texan, is a good man with a heart drowning in guilt. First his brother dies in a stampede, and then his cattle run over a ranch. He can’t bring his brother back to life, but he wants to make amends to the man and his beautiful daughter whose livelihood he destroyed. He goes back to Dodge to set things right. The memory of the woman on the ranch, the woman with the amazing emerald eyes, has haunted him for a yearp.
Noah finds Sadie in a bordello. Discovering how low her life has fallen hits him hard. He feels responsible and wants to help her… protect her… make things right by her. She wants nothing to do with him. There`s a sizzling chemistry between them he can’t deny. Never has a woman bewitched him the way she does. He schemes to find a way to her heart.
Their adventure is hot, steamy and treacherous.
If you like visiting the Old West, you`ll enjoy Jacqui Nelsons, Between Love and Lies, a story spun with a complex web of emotion and conflict, love and lies.
My favorite line: “He may have held her face in his hands, but she held his heart in hers.”

Sadie Sullivan, having to deal with the death of her mother, her feckless, gambling, good for nothing father who dragged them out west running from his debts, tries to eek out a meager living on the outskirts of Dodge City. All her efforts come to naught after a cattle drive tramples her hard work into so much dust and ruin. The cowboy in charge of the drive tries to make amends by paying for the damages but he doesn't know that his generosity isn't what he hopes it will be.

Noah Ballyntine is yet again on a cattle drive to Dodge City, a place he thoroughly dislikes and would probably never set foot in again if not for a green-eyed, fiery redhead he'd wronged the year before. His conscious leads him to find out what's happened to her after he left her life in ruin. His hope that she was able to rebuild is fruitless for she now has no one and is forced to survive as a saloon girl in one of the rowdiest places in town.

But things are not as they seem. Sadie hates Noah for coming back into her wrecked life and Noah vows to make things right for her but danger lurks in the shadows, secrets are worth killing for, and more than one debt is owed as a love for the ages grows between them.

I loved these characters! They are well-developed and even the minor characters are described in a way that leaves you wanting to find out more of their story. The main plot and subplots are intriguing and work well in the pace of the story. I could envision the entire story/place in my head as if I was watching one of my favorite old western movies. Well done, Ms. Nelson!

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review and am excited to read more from this author.

A High Royal Flush

I have always loved Historical Fiction. Combine it with a good love story and some sex I have my perfect read. Ms Nelson has done such a beautiful job telling a story based on a dramatic time in U.S. History. The author inspiration for writing this story came from a letter written on January 1, 1878 in the Washington, D.C. Evening Star.

When you add Bat Masterson, I still watch the TV show reruns, you know that this story will bring you back to a time where the West was truly wild. Sadie is down on her luck. Things are pretty bad when your father sells you to a Madam to support a gambling addiction. To make matters worse the man that cause the ruin of Sadie’s farm, has returned to Dodge. Guarding her secrets, Sadie has woven a web of lies to keep herself safe and keep a promise to her only friend. A friend that until his death kept her safe from the lustful men that wanted to take their pleasure with Sadie. Now that Noah Ballantyne has returned to Dodge, his desire to right the wrong that he did a year ago when his cattle stampeded Sadie’s farm may unravel all of Sadie’s lies. His urge to protect Sadie may infact destroy both him and Sadie.

This is the first book of The Gambling Hearts Series. Can’t wait for book two.

Jacqui Nelson’s Between Love & Lies is a Historical Romance set in Dodge City. The Texas cattle drives, lose women and Bat Masterson rule in this Wild West murder mystery. It is Book One in Jacqui Nelson’s Gambling Hearts series.
Noah Ballantyne brought his herd up from his Texas ranch a year ago and changed his life and Sadie Sullivan’s in ways he did not get over. He is back in Dodge City to check on Sadie. He found her alright, in a saloon and mixed up in something she was not ready to share. “She held him stronger than any guilt or fear…He would not abandon her again. He’d figure out a way to help her…”
Sadie needed help but has found out the hard way, the only one you could rely on was yourself. She had no one to trust or to turn to, everyone had abandoned her. Noah had returned and she was to slowly find “He was reliable and steadfast and everything her heart desired.”
Jacqui Nelson grew up on a cattle farm watching old westerns and her Historical romances set in America’s Old West are a wonderful reflection of this background. Between Love & Lies is a great old west who done it with great characters to keep you guessing. If you love cowboys, wronged women, and shoot’um ups- who done it’s; you are in for a treat. I was given this book for an honest review. Give Jacqui Nelson’s Wild West a visit, I think you will come back for more. I know I look forward to the next book in this series.

This book by Jacqui Nelson is the first in her Gambling Hearts series.
Sadie doesn't have it easy dealing with a father that doesn't work and gambles what little money they have, but the destruction of her home and garden by the cattle have left her at her breaking point. Little does she realize how much that day would change her life forever.
Noah only had one thing on his mind when he got to Dodge City and that was to look up Sadie and hopefully apologize for leaving her with a mess to contend with, but he soon found out that the destruction of her home wasn't the only thing that had been destroyed after that days events.
The last person Sadie wanted to ever see again was Noah. His cattle had destroyed her home and the money that he had left was gambled away. When her father was unable to pay his debts he sold her to the local madame and left her to take care of herself. As far as Sadie was concerned it was all Noah's fault.
When Noah apologizes and tries to right his wrongs he realizes that there is a lot more that Sadie is keeping from him and he plans on sticking around and making sure she is safe even if he has to die trying.
I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series.

I was given an ARC for an honest review. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

I love a good historical romance and one of the best eras to go back is the old west where danger abound even around beautiful prairies and adventure is there for the strong in mind and free in spirit. Throw in sexy cowboys who can draw faster than you can blink and I'm sold.

Ms Nelson captures the spirit of the old west in this story with rich and evocative details as well as characters who capture your heart. When cowboy Noah Ballantyne and his herd of Texan Longhorns destroyed everything she'd worked so hard to build, she curse the man. But she didn't realise how far she would sink just to survive. A year later Noah is back determined to make up for the damage he caused but he is shocked to find Sadie working in a saloon.
What happened to the redheaded beauty? If only he knew exactly what she'd done and how much she hid. Sadie is in the snare of wickedness and the last thing she wants is for Noah to get drowned in her quagmire. It's wonderful to see her going from near hating Noah to fighting to keep him safe from danger.

I really enjoyed this story of adventure and love. And this author has certainly confirmed her place in the list of authors I will happily recommend. Go and grab your copy.

This book is one wild ride! Noah and Sadie definitely had some hurdles to jump through to get to their happily ever after. Sadie was one strong, stubborn woman, determined to keep her web of lies in tact but not realizing that in some ways, she was sabotaging herself in the process by not truly trusting herself, or Noah. Noah had some ghosts of his own he had to deal with, and then when he realized the depths of his desire to protect and rescue Sadie, both from outsides sources and herself, boy, did he have his hands full trying to juggle it all! I enjoyed watching them fall in love and how they both truly cared and tried to protect the other, even to a fault. I understood why Sadie kept trying to keep her secrets, but I do wish she trusted herself and Noah earlier - it would have saved her some heartache. I liked how Noah kept trying to figure out how he could keep Sadie in his life, but sometimes in his desire to do things right, I think he also handed himself some heartache he didn't really need. Overall, I enjoyed my time in Dodge, getting to see who the real heroes were, seeing Sadie fulfill her promises and having good win over all, and watching two people who truly needed and love each other make it through to their reward.

Jacqui Nelson’s Between Love & Lies is the first in her new Gambling Hearts series, set in the wild cow town of Dodge City.

After her small farm is destroyed by a cattle drive, Sadie Sullivan finds herself working at the Northern Star saloon, sold into servitude there by her alcoholic father, just before he took off with all their money. Sadie has avoided prostitution by faking syphilis, but the medicine of the day may be killing her instead. She’s not about to give up, though—she has a mission to accomplish.

It was Noah Ballantyne’s cattle that wrecked the Sullivan farm, and Noah has been haunted by worry for Sadie ever since. When he drives another herd north from his Texas ranch, he’s determined to find out what has happened to her. When he does, his guilt keeps him in Dodge, determined to rescue Sadie from the brothel, not realizing that his good intentions threaten to upset all her plans.

Nelson does a great job with her western setting, filling it with interesting characters including Bat Masterson and Wyatt Earp, the action is exciting, and the romance is deep and moving, as Sadie learns she may have found a man she can trust.

I received Between Love and Lies as an ARC for an honest review.

This was my second book by Jacqui Nelson and I couldn’t put it down!

Sadie Sullivan might not have had much but she worked hard for everything she had. One stampede of longhorns ruined everything her home, garden and her life. Since that event, her father sold her to the Madam for money so he could gamble and drink. She tried to escape Dodge City but was unsuccessful. However, she did find a good friend when that good friend was taken from her she made him a promise and couldn’t leave until she completed it or she would die trying.

One year later after the stampede, Noah Ballantyne still couldn’t forget the woman whose life he altered when his herd of longhorn’s trampled through her life. He was helping a friend with a cattle drive back to Dodge City, Kansas, and trying to find the woman whose life he altered. When he finds her he is shocked at his discovery and vows not to leave Dodge until he helps her.

What’s a girl to do when the man who destroyed everything she worked hard for comes back in her life lick a freight train?

The first time Sadie and Noah meet, Noah destroys her life and her future. The second time they meet Noah is determined to put things right but Sadie is in an even worse situation and doesn't trust anyone. She has been sold to the local pedlar of sin to pay off her father's gambling debts and her time sold to the highest bidder. While Noah gives her an out, she will not leave until she fulfils a promise to a dead friend. Sadie has constructed a web of lies around her to survive and Noah could bring them all down if they become closer.

This is the Wild West where pretty much anything goes. The time period adds to the drama of the story and the grittiness of the time is reflected in the attitudes of the characters. It was an interesting tale of treachery, lies and deceit wrapped around the developing relationship between Sadie and Noah. It was a really great read, taking you back to a time where you shoot first and ask questions later.

A true historical romance western that captures the ruggedness of early United States history. Nelson captures the true passion of the times when including the the hard work by men and females out west by presenting scenes written to include the saloons, outlaws, gambling, cattle drives and the physical health of the frontier men, women and livestock. She brings this to life through the eyes of Sadie Nelson who had everything working hard beside her father and brings in the rugged cattleman Noah who has his own demons to fight. Nelson also slips in some great western lawmen's names too which adds to the nostalgia and keeps the reader enticed and the vital ingredient romance. The book rates next to some great western authors, such as, Ralph Compton but more romance. I can't wait to read other books by Jacqui Nelson and see what is in store for this series.

A story about women in the old west, who had no say in their lives. Sadie was sold by her father into a brothel, but the man who buys her treats her right. When he is murdered, she vows to get revenge on the murderer, and retrieve Edwards stolen property. To do this she must put herself back in danger, in the clutches of the madam of the brothel. But Noah, a man who was responsible for the beginning of her downfall, has returned after a year, to right his wrongs. But Sadie doesn't trust anyone. Can he keep her safe. I loved these two characters. Sadie is doing what she can to avenge Edward's murder, at great risk to herself. And Noah is a nice man with a concious, and wanting to help her. Sadie was strong and smart, and concocted many lies to keep herself safe. She endured many hardships to fulfill a promise.

I received this book from the author for a true and honest review.

I absolutely loved this book. I received it yesterday and finished it this morning. The flow of the story and plot kept me turning the pages. The characters were well developed and had me caring about them hoping things would turn out for the best.

The story revealed facts about the settling of the Old West that had me pause in my reading. Sadie and her father lost their home and all their crops because of a cattle stampede. I knew there were cattle drives but never thought about how they could affect the settlers. There were many other informative facts throughout the book that I will let you find out for yourself.

Do yourself a favor and buy this book.
