Charlie learns that sometimes the most heroic thing you can do is ask for help.
One night, Charlie's mom entrusts him with closing up the café while she runs an errand. Distracted by the rivals who come in to taunt him, Charlie completely forgets to turn off the stove when he leaves.
When Charlie and Pudge come back after their hockey game, they're devastated to find there has been a fire at the café. And the insurance company won't pay for the damage because Charlie is underage and shouldn't have been using the stove.
Charlie is overwhelmed by guilt. His hockey game and friendships suffer. And with bank payments looming, his mom decides she must take a job in another city.
When he finally tells his teammates what happened, they all suggest ways to help.
With support from the community, and relying on green principles, like using building materials that have been thrown out or are no longer needed (freecycling!), they pull together and pull it off at the last second!
In this book, a soon to be hockey superstar, Charlie Joyce, is in the middle of creating his own hockey team called "The Rebals". Things were going great after winning last years season. But when almost half the team is injured, things start to go downhill. The rebals start losing games and almost all hope is lost. The worst thing happened when charlie forgets to turn off the stove of his mothers bakery and burns down her whole business! If this doesn't get fixed soon, charlie will have to move and leave his team all alone. Will charlie be able to fix his moms business with help from his teammates or will he have to move. Find out by reading double shift! I recommend this book to anyone who likes hockey and the reason why I liked this book is because I cant relate to it so easily. This book is realistic fiction and I suggest you give it a try!
I’ve read the game time series since childhood and it’s really sad to see such an amazing series end. I still wish there were more books that continue this series and the romance side of me will always wish that we would’ve seen more of Charlie and Julia together (maybe see them start dating, but that’s just me). I’m going to miss reading this series and reading Scott and Nick’s humour, thank you David Skuy for making such an incredible series
Yeah I might've reread all of these to pad my reading challenge numbers but it's also NHL offseason and the Game Time series is an absolute gem straight out of my childhood.
