Great - another book about ADHD to add to the pile...

But wait a second...what if this one’s a little bit different? What if you could spend time inside the head of one of the UK's most bespectacled comedians – Sue Perkins? What if you could be led by the ears into the vortex of her distracted mind?

Well, first of all, she’ll need to be able to focus for long enough to write the thing…

The result is an audio experience that is at once brutally honest, deeply moving, illuminating, and laugh-out-loud funny, as Sue explores what it’s like to live with a mind that rarely sits still (and a pending deadline!).

As you listen to this immersive experience you’ll feel the thrill of hyperfocus, the buzz of a dopamine high – but also the anxiety, overwhelm and shame involved in feeling and experiencing life somewhat differently from the mainstream.

At its heart, this is a story about identity and about realising you've been misreading yourself for decades.

Featuring nuns, police officers, ex-partners, best friends, dogs, horses and a weighted highland cow – this is essential listening for anyone intrigued to understand more about living life as your full self.

This audiobook is based on Sue’s own personal experience with ADHD. There will be some strong language, adult themes, discussion of mental health and references to alcohol and prescription drugs. Any suggestions given are for guidance only, they’re not a substitute for individual medical advice. Always consult your GP or medical professional regarding your own personal situation.

What I’m looking for is full blown panic.

When the fuse blows…

Chapter 1: It’s not that my filing cabinet isn’t well organised… I don’t have a filing cabinet.

Chapter 2: I just wish the world was a little quieter.

Chapter 3: Add to basket.

Chapter 4: Everything all at once, or nothing at all.

Chapter 5: I need an anchor in order to soar.

Chapter 6: I bought a miniature hydroponic herb centre – instead of doing my tax returns.

Chapter 7: A problem shared is a problem squared.

Chapter 8: It’s of vital importance that you like me.

Chapter 9: Nice to meet you. Who are you again?

Chapter 10: Calm and stable.

Chapter 11: The Ending.

Absolutely Hilarious & Immensely Informative!

Sue Perkins really is a genius when it comes to her comedy and her book writing is amazing!

This is absolutely hilarious from start to finish whilst keeping it so informative.

The book is packed to the seams regarding the experience of living life with ADHD and it's all done utterly saturated with real life humor.

I've always loved Sue Perkins as she never fails to deliver first class humor and always shows her vulnerable side.

I'll never forget the hilarious scene from her Japan series in the maid cafe, could she possibly get any funnier?? She sure reaches some real laugh out loud moments throughout the book alongside the constant chuckling!

I noticed that there are many symptoms of Autism too and I wonder if Sue has been tested for this, I have just been diagnosed with Autism this year at aged 53, the age she was diagnosed with ADHD, and I'm about to have my ADHD test next week.
There are many close similarities.

I can't recommend this book enough whether you're a Sue Perkins fan or not you will learn a lot about ADHD and if you love Sue Perkins and aren't interested in ADHD you should still get the book.

And like me if you're into both then the book is a no brainer!

I'm a fan of Sue Perkins, so this was always going to be a good starting point! A relatively quick listen on Audible, narrated by Sue herself, it feels particularly engaging because she is speaking from personal experience.

I especially enjoyed the section on body doubling, which approached something I was already familiar with from a different angle. My one criticism would be the amount of time devoted to equine therapy. Interesting, certainly, but I felt it took up rather too much space, particularly in an audiobook, as we were accompanying Sue during the sessions.

The final section is a call to action, reminding us that we all have a part to play in finding answers and solutions. Sue makes her own point beautifully by offering as many questions as answers, leaving us with plenty to think about.

Overall, an interesting read — or rather, a very worthwhile listen!

Recently watched older seasons of GBBO and remembered how much I love Sue!! Then BAM this popped up on my recommended books on Audible, oh creepy internet thanks for creeping, cause I enjoyed this so much! Got to listen to Sue for 6 hours which I found comforting when work was a bit chaotic and definitely had moments that made me go 🤔🤨🤔

First time I’ve finished an audiobook in one day, and as someone living with ADHD that is an incredible thing. So much of this could have been copied and pasted from my life, and for anyone with ADHD, or things they may have it or knows someone who has it, please get stuck into this!

A fascinating and useful reflection on what ADHD means from a lived experience and wonderfully warm and witty as you’d expect from Sue.

Started really well and found it so helpful and relatable however when she started talking about body doubling with a friend it just went on and on. We gave up the audiobook.
