The Lillith Scroll - this is a 5 star for me - **I was given this book to review as part of a Promotional Book tour on my Blog, and this is my honest review**
The Synopsis opens with :
What if you discovered there was “time” before time began? What if everything you thought was true, was not? What if there was a beginning before “In the beginning”; another story unfolding within our time, steeped in loss, love, betrayal, and secrets. That sounds interesting, I thought...
It also continues on with:
On her twenty-third celebrated birthday, Lilith arrived in Scotland following clues she had secretly collected about her past. Everything led her to the Rosslyn Chapel and to an illustrious but mysterious professor, Dr. Asher Daniel. Well I love books that are based around legend and myth of our past. I love Dan Brown and Kate Mosse so by this point I was clicking "YES I WANT TO REVIEW' So I shuffled my "To be Reviewed list" and chose Review instead of Promo on the blog. A few late nights too but it was worth it!
The Synopsis continues...
Little did she know that going down this path would reignite one of the oldest wars of all time- The Fall. Sides would be chosen, lives would be lost, and the secret kept all this time by the Illuminati would be exposed. I was very intrigued as to how Ms Marsh would bring Lilith into the legend of 'The Fall'
Meet Sagan. A man without past and powers who rival Lilith’s. Will he be able to help her find out her past and discover his own in the process? Mysterious Male to add to the mix
Reading this book you will Go back in time. Back to the garden. Experience the magic of the creation, the wonder of nature and the betrayal that destroyed it all. I was interested to see how the author would interpret the myth of Eden.
So what did I think, you are wondering, here are my thoughts and why it got 5 stars.
The world building really had me immersed into the story, by 25% I was ignoring anything else that was on my schedule for the day and trying to just stay in "Book World"
MY TOP TIP for this book is READ THE GLOSSARY & THE CAST OF CHARACTERS and WHAT IS FACT before beginning the story.
I did this, and even went back to it once or twice, knowing what certain words, characters were first made reading easier. And of course Kindle functions where you can highlight a word and it gives you the definition is really helpful!
Ms Marsh has studied the Dead Sea Scrolls, and other periods in history, and it is evident when you are reading this book. Ms Marsh takes the Creation Myth and adds her imagination to create a great magical tale that encompasses 6 thousand years of folklore and legend. This book has everything I love in a book, History, Legend, Myth and folklore.
There is a lot going on in this book, and the Author is laying down the base for the series, so this book concentrates on Lilith finally figuring out why she has no memory of her past and what the dreams/nightmares relate too.
The timeline of the story goes back and forth, but I found no problems with this, there are headings saying 'present day' or the characters will lead into the passage.
There are a lot of supporting characters, they all have a part to play in the mystery of Lilith's past, they all remember something about the tragedy that occurred and each character I am sure will have an important part to play in the story as it evolves.
This book is part one of a series, and although it ends with a "to be continued' I would not call it a cliff hanger, Ms Marsh has ended it with a HEA point and I was happy with that, but left with the knowledge that I will eagerly await Book 2.
I will definitely be putting Ms Marsh on my Authors to follow list, this being a debut novel, shows such promise, you can tell that there has been a lot of research and preparation, writing a book that combines so much myth and lore and that's what I loved the most about this book.
In simple terms the books about Soul mates/ true love, and the two trying to find each other after being ripped apart, but what sets it apart for me is all the back story, the mystery and the questions yet to be discovered.
Ms Marsh has a real talent at writing descriptive passages, especially the 'Scroll' passages that are written with such flair and poetic prose.
I will make time re read the story when I know the second book is due, I am sure on the second read I will find new clues and this is one of those books that I will re read a number of times.
Well done Ms Marsh, you have me hooked and I can't wait to find out more.
