Vampires. Werewolves. Beasts that hunt in the night...When New Orleans Detective Jane Hart investigates her first official homicide case, she never expects to have her world ripped apart. But the murder she’s investigating is part of a deadly war between vampires and werewolves…and now Jane is caught in that eternal battle. A battle that can’t end well.

Werewolf Aidan Locke has been running New Orleans for years. It’s his job to keep the vamps out of the city. But when a Master Vampire comes to town, determined to unleash hell, Aidan knows it’s time to fight with all the fury of his pack. Beast versus vamp, until the last breath. Then he meets Jane…

One look, one taste, and Aidan knows that Jane is far more than she seems. Far more than she even knows herself to be. She’s important in the paranormal war, not a pawn to be used, but a queen to be won. And if he can’t keep her at his side, if he can’t stop the darkness from descending on the town…then Jane Hart will become not just a fierce cop, not some guardian, but something deadlier. Darker. Aidan will fight heaven and hell to change her fate. To change their fate because he is more than just a predator.

And Jane is more than prey. Far more.

The world is changing—for the humans and the monsters. Hot, sexy, and intense, BITE THE DUST is the first novel in New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cynthia Eden’s dark new “Blood and Moonlight” series.

Wow, this book did not disappoint!!! There is murder, mystery, betrayal, action, hot men and sexy scenes, so what more could you want, right? Oh, yeah, I know! A second book that continues the crazy journey of Jane and Aidan!!! And you know what, that's exactly what this amazingly talented author makes happen! Hell yeah!!!!

description

Many know that I love paranormal books, that have a kickass heroine, loyal hot hero and, above all, a plot that leaves you craving for more. And that's what this book is all about. I'm so happy I got to read it, otherwise I'd never know how good this story really is. I know some might see it differently, since we all have can't have the same book taste, but for me it was quite the enjoyable read.

description

As said in the blurb, Jane Hart is a young but fierce cop and at the time of her first murder case, she had no bloody idea into what she really stumbled. Heck no! Because after meeting Aidan, the world she though to knew, became a hell of a scarier place to live in. After all, who believed vampires and werewolfs were real, right? Well, she did now... Unfortunately her gained knowledge came with a price that just might end her life.

And as for Aidan, lets just say there is more to him than meets the eye. So much more. ;)

"Jane?"
"Yes?"
"You were not what I expected. But you are exactly what I want."
Warmth bloomed in her chest. "Werewolf, I assure you, you were the last thing I ever saw coming."

I loved his character. He's all secretive, alpha and sexy as hell, but he does wear his heart on his sleeve. And although he knows what danger Jane represents, he simply can't help but slowly fall for her personality. And when he finally convinces Jane to give in to their attraction, well, I had a great time reading about those parts. ;)

description

There were some plot twist that I didn't see coming and that made me like their story even more. Both try to do the right things, even when their ways to get there are far from alike. But in the end, it all plays out the way it should. As already said above, it left me craving for more. Thankfully the second book is already out, so that's exactly what I'm going to do next. :)

Since I'm late to this party and there's already so many reviews I'll skip my usually summary and just give my thoughts.
There's a lot here to like particularly Aidan, I do love a hot alpha werewolf and the story had enough to keep me reading (although it was a little slow at times) and there's some interesting secondary characters.
In fact my only real problem was Jane and she was a major problem to the extent where I nearly stopped reading several times.
Jane maybe a detective who can look after herself when it comes to dealing with humans but in this book it's vampires and werewolves and even if they're all new to her she still knows best, she insists she can protect herself against whatever is out there.
I couldn't decide if she was just stupid or really stupid, her obsession with keeping blood thirsty vampires alive so they can kill innocent people was interesting.
If Jane had been less annoying, stupid and whiny this would have been a much better book because as it was it wasn't bad it's just that it could have been so much more.
Part of me wants to continue on because honestly I'm intrigued what will happen when the inevitable happens but I don't know if I can read another book with Jane in it. Either way I need a Jane break maybe I'll come back to this series and maybe I won't.

4.25-4.5 stars.

I don't know why it has taken me this long to read this series but after reading Stay with me I got author hang over (is that a thing?) *LOL* anyway I liked this book a lot.

I loved this heroine, some reviews said that she was annoying but no she wasn't annoying to me, she was a strong kickass woman. She wasn't weak and she put the hero in his place.

“But you just won the award for the biggest creep factor ever. I’m not forgetting my victim, and I’m not forgetting the murder, and the very fact that you think I would…I mean, what, was that supposed to be some kind of lame seduction attempt or something? You were trying to seduce me into silence”

“The bigger they are…the harder I will make them fall.”

The hero took a back seat for me but he was still a good hero and I liked him.

“I want you more than I can damn well ever remember wanting anyone. I look at you, and I ache. I want to take and take until you scream as you come for me”

“You’re the only one that fucking matters to me.”

“You were not what I expected. But you are exactly what I want.”

Off to read the next one.

Detective Mary Jane Hart came to New Orleans to leave her past and get a fresh start. When she catches the case of a murdered girl whose neck was sliced to cover up two puncture marks, she gets involved in the underground of the city. Her investigation leads her to Aiden Locke, owner of the bar where the victim was left.

Aiden isn't just a bar owner, he's the Alpha Werewolf in New Orleans and his number one job is to protect the city from Vampires. When a dead body, soon to be Vampire, gets left outside of his bar he knows that there is a war about to happen on his turf. But once he gets a sniff of Jane his priorities change and he becomes increasingly fascinated by the Detective.

Bite the Dust is the first book in a new series about the battle between Vampires and Werewolves and the woman who can change both of their fates. Jane is a tough Detective that is determined to always do the right thing. When she gets thrown into the world of Shifters and blood thirsty Vampires she's in over her head, but won't give up. Getting her first paranormal case brings up things from her past and danger comes for her.

I loved the different aspects of this story and how there was a lot going on, but it wasn't so crazy that I got lost or confused. The world of the paranormal wasn't hard to follow at all and it was explained at a slow pace so there wasn't just a dump of information, which I really liked. I've read a lot of paranormal books but the worlds and facts are always different and I liked the spin that Cynthia Eden put on this one. The werewolves, other than the Alpha, couldn't shift into full wolves. I just thought that was a really interesting twist that I haven't read before.

Aiden was a great character and I loved how possessive he got over Jane, even willing to fight his own pack over her. He had an intensity that I found really intriguing and wanted to learn more about him. I liked his silent, but deadly vibe he had going on and it just made him even more interesting to me. Even though he didn't say much, what he did say was usually sexy as hell.

Overall, this was a great paranormal book that I thoroughly enjoyed. There isn't a cliffhanger but I still have some questions so I will be, not so patiently, waiting for the next book.

4 - "You can't control other people's crazy." Stars!

No one writes paranormal romantic suspense quite like Cynthia Eden, and I think the first book in her new Blood and Moonlight. series, highlights exactly why. Bite the Dust introduces us to the underworld of New Orleans, not to mention the wealth of creatures and characters that live in it, as well as giving us a kick-ass Heroine and a sexy dominant Alpha as our lead characters.

Detective Jane Hart, is on her first case for the NOPD, a brutally murdered woman, left in an alley outside of a local nightspot, drained of blood with her throat slit. Although you never expect a murder to be cut and dried in its investigation, the fact that the victim disappears from the morgue, and all of her colleagues have no memory of the crime even being committed the following day, leaves Jane wondering just exactly what is going on in the deep, dark, depths of the New Orleans underworld.

Handsome faces could hide horrible monsters…

Local business owner, and Alpha of the town’s werewolf population Aidan Locke, knows more than Jane thinks he is telling her. And it was extremely entertaining to read this couple butt heads over pretty much everything from then on in, with Jane attempting to investigate the weird and wicked crimes being committed, whilst apparently the target of an unknown entity herself.

”Are you sniffing me?

…Because that is some weird serial killer shit if you’re doing that. Don’t make me go for my gun again.”

The banter between this couple was hilarious at points, as well as the chemistry which was more than a little steamy. Cynthia gave great depth to the back stories of this pair as well, which seeing as it’s the start of the series is what I would expect from her.

”I don’t know what scares me more. You… or the vampires out there.”

Bite the Dust hits the ground running with its story-line, and the author brings in a great cast of characters as the plot progresses. Nothing is quite as it would seem in New Orleans, and I figure that as the series moves along we will be given more and more insight into the werewolf and vampire populations, as well as delving deeper into the pasts of Jane and Aidan.

”The end… It never looks the way we expect, does it.”

Better off Undead was released early January, and I cannot wait to get back to this series.

When New Orleans Detective Jane Hart gets the call to the investigation of her first official homicide case she's unprepared for what she finds. A gruesome murder has happened and a strange man is talking to her as if she'll forget everything. Next thing Jane knows it's morning and she's receiving a call to investigate another case but it's the same victim but only she seems to remember the first call.

Werewolf Aidan Locke is the alpha in charge of New Orleans. It's Aidan's job to protect the city and keep the vampires out but when a Master Vampire comes to town it's the beginning of a war. And now Aidan finds himself attracted to this detective that has something different about her but so is the vampires and Aidan vows to protect Jane at all costs.

Bite the Dust is a good solid read that some are sure to love. Well written and with likable characters I did enjoy the read for the most part but some part of me was just wanting a bit more or something a bit different to happen. With so many books, movies and television shows out there with vampires and werewolves I kind of felt that there was just nothing new added to make this one stand out more to me.

Jane is the tough, independent heroine that insists she doesn't need the man protecting her and Aiden the hot and sexy alpha that insists he protects her. The two of course have an instant attraction coming to find with something different about Jane that her smell attracts the alpha wolf with a bit of back and forth between the two then becoming a steamy relationship.

The story includes the war between werewolves and vampires, vampire being evil blood obsessed monsters while the wolves protectors. The story keeps the suspense going between the species and a bit of betrayal involved in the plot. Everything you'd expect from this type of read.

Overall, 3.5 stars, well written werewolf/vampire paranormal read which I did like but just wanted a bit more to really love.

An unfortunate choice. I keep forgetting Ms Eden has long lost her appeal to me. I found the book boring, the writing flat, the characters monochrome. The heroine was supposed to be strong, and came across stupid, the villains flatter than a tire with a nail in it. And a romance is something different than I see you, I want you as we're supposed to be together. At least for me.

The author style is of course her own, but it can't be that "strong" that's impossibile to distinguish between books. You really should not have a strong deja-read while reading paragraphs.

I'm sorry but I can't recommend this book.

Another fantastic PNR from Cynthia Eden.

Apples and…lavender. A nice blend.
Only…there was something more. A deeper, richer scent that was pulling at him. Drawing him closer to her.
Tempting.
“Are you sniffing me?”
He stopped.
“Because that is some weird serial killer shit if you’re doing that. Don’t make me go for my gun again.”

Jane knows all about monsters. She learned the truth when she was very young, but no one believed her, and she keeps that knowledge deep inside. She believes in justice, in fighting for those who can’t. Then she meets Aidan Locke, a predator that she just can’t help being attracted to. But there’s no way that she will allow this attraction to get in the way of her investigation. But unbeknownst to her there’s something special about Jane, and someone wants to use her in a very bad way.

“What was that about? Why did you kiss me?”
Propping his shoulders against the door, he leaned back and let his gaze sweep over her. “I want to fuck you.”
She stopped pacing.
“I thought the kiss made that pretty clear.” He lifted a brow. “Was I too vague? Should I try again?”

A sexy alpha werewolf and a kick-ass detective. I just loved these two together. Especially Aidan’s protectiveness when it came to Jane, and Jane’s adamant resolve to look out for herself and to make sure that justice is always served. This really caused a lot of interesting and funny moments, and I just loved the banter between these two.

“Sweetheart,” he told her softly, “I’ll be your partner. I’ll be your lover. I’ll be anything you want.”

I adored Aidan. He was such an alpha, used to giving orders and having them obeyed. And even though he was very protective and possessive over Jane, he loved the fact that she was capable of taking care of herself, and that she gave as good as she got. He wants everything from Jane, wants to be her everything, and he will do anything to protect her and keep her in his life because to him she is all he has ever wanted.

“Because I want you.”
Her heart thundered in her ears.
“I want you more than I can damn well ever remember wanting anyone. I look at you, and I ache. I want to take and take until you scream as you come for me.”

Oh, and the sexy times. So very hot. I love how Cynthia Eden writes romance. It just gets me every time, and the romance between Jane and Aidan made me so very happy. I’m a real sucker for instant attraction, especially when it comes to shifters. And the chemistry between these two was steamy and wonderful.

I really liked the plot of the story. Of course the villain was very evil, and intent on getting to Jane, no matter who he had to kill in order to accomplish this.

I loved this book, and Cynthia Eden has once again proven why she is one of my favorite PNR writers. I can’t wait to read the next book, so see what happens next in Jane and Aidan’s lives.

Bite the Dust is the first book in Cynthia Eden's Blood & Moonlight series. I believe the first book in a series is more difficult than later installments. Mostly bc I feel the author has a massive check list they need to accomplish within that first book to set up for the entire series. I'd imagine it's a difficult task, especially when dealing with alternate worlds/realities etc. For that reason I tend to be lenient with my first book in series ratings.

World:
In Bite the Dust the author did an excellent job world building. No info dumps or lack of details. She managed to make me feel like I understood the realities of the world the H/h lived in. However, I didn't feel like I was in New Orleans for the most part the story could've been in any state or country. This may change as the series progresses.

MCS:
The protagonist is newly promoted homicide Detective Mary Jane Hart. Detective Hart is a young career oriented female with a strong devotion to law. Although Jane seems easily filed under the law enforcement slot, believing Jane an easily deciphered character would be an error of judgment. This Mississippi girl is not what she seems, the detective is secretive & has a shady past I suspect will drive the plot in future installments.
Aidan Heart is the love interest. The owner of the New Orleans club Gates of Hell is no push over. He's the traditional alpha male. Think high handed, bossy, & has a tendency to take control in situations with limited communication/compromising abilities. His species surprised me. I wasn't expecting what I got. That's all I'll say bc I don't want to give anything away.

The Mystery:
What mystery? Within the first 5 chapters the reader will have solved the who dun what.
Good News:
No cliffhangers.
No love triangle was established in this first book. I know many of you have a dislike of them so I thought it note worthy enough to share.

Possible Pet-Peevs:
Insta-love.
Multiple POVs. This could get confusing & I'm not sure they added anything to the storyline. If I'm honest the arc would have moved along at the same speed without the "villain(s)" insight. It was unnecessary.

Rating:3 stars.
Will I continue the series?: Perhaps, I'll read book 2 but if that book is another average read I'm unlikely to continue the series.
Would I recommend this book: At the moment no, it's nothing special. It's a decent in-between read but I'd suggest you wait to add it to your buy list.

4.25 Omega Stars!

I have such a lovefest for Cynthia Eden. She has written so many books I cannot keep up and every once in a while I get in a rut, I need something different. I tend to turn to my all time faithful to get me going. I feel Cynthia Eden rocks paranormal like no other. Her stories are dark and raw, and her characters flawed and brazen. I found this series on Amazon, and truly one-clicked the entire set after just 15 pages into Bite the Dust.

In the heart of New Orleans, and all its mystic atmosphere, Mary Jane fights crime and searches for justice at any cost. She has no idea that the death piling up around her comes from the hand of one not like anything she has ever experienced...or has she? Enter Aiden Locke...strong, sexy, and oh so dark. He owns Hell's Gate and he has a strong urge to protect her from everything perhaps even himself.

With the age old rivalry of werewolf vs vampire, Bite the Dust brings an edgy, suspenseful read with steamy dark tension between a woman who is more than she realizes and a wolf whose law will impact her very being. I was totally into this story and I was full on invested so when the last sentence was read, I started book 2. I am so appreciative for Cynthia Eden's craft and her stellar paranormal stories!!!

I loved this authors Purgatory series with uber hot paranormal characters so was very excited to see this new series appear when checking Goodreads. I will be honest and say I'm so over stories that feature New Orleans as its terribly over used as a setting in paranormal romance stories but a friend read this and said it was more character lead so I decided to give it a go.
Jane is our leading lady here and right from the start it's obvious she has secrets of her own. A newly promoted detective but she's a woman with a past and when a body disappears and then reappears its not the first time Jane has had to face monsters. This time though the monsters are much more attractive and bossy but Jane can handle that, can't she?
Aidan runs his city the same way he runs his Pack, might is right. So what does he do when the infuriating new Detective keeps getting mixed up in his business? Janes bright, persistent and unfortunately just might be a very real danger to Aidans Pack! Vampires are attacking his city and searching for prey but it looks like there is something planned and Jane is slap bang in the middle of it!
Another entertaining story from this author but I'm left wanting more. Yes it's the first in the series so characters to introduce and world building to create but as a reader I wanted a few more answers about Jane. Upon checking I notice the next book is also about Aidan and Jane so clearly that's why some secrets were not revealed. Ok I can cope with that as clearly Ms Eden has a plan to broaden this world she has created. So my final thoughts are I enjoyed it, it's an interesting take on vampires particularly as we see what it really means to turn into a bloodthirsty monster. This couple are both passionate and stubborn so bound to have lots of ups and downs. I'm not sure what might happen next but I'm sufficiently intrigued to want to find out

Superb book about Jane and Aidan, she is human with a bit of a twist, and Aidan is an Alpha wolf. They have quite an adventure together, fighting enemies falling in love, and dealing with betrayal.

Jane is no sniveling, weak, scaredy cat. She is strong, self-confidence women, and a little hell cat. She does not stand down from anything, she actually runs into the fray of things (worrying Aidan). He is very proud of her though. She's also a crime scene investigator, with a past, and a possible unwanted future.

Aidan is a sexy predator, but on the good side. Also self-confidence, strong, smart, and protective. He tries to keep the city safe, and Jane safe, it works for the most part. His kind has one natural enemy, whom they are always fighting, and needing to deal with. He is also trying to keep Jane safe from a possible bad future.

Jane, and Aidan are in love, but things are not easy. I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book. I think they are going to find out things about each other. Things that might make their lives more complications.

This book was full of fighting, and action. It had a great story line to it, and was well written. I am definitely going to read the next book, and I certainly recommend this one. Of course if you're into paranormal romance type books. I would also say this would be considered an adults book. It has a little profanity, some sex although not a lot of detail till the end, then of course the killing. I didn't think it was much at all, but I wouldn't let my 12 year old niece or nephew read it.

Thank you hope this helps.

Well I can say I was a bit surprised at how good this story was, even though it is the first book in the series I hope we don't have the same plot over and over since I am not sure how all this is going to work but this was a great story. Kept my interest, was not dull, maybe a bit oversexed (meaning some of the sex seemed to do little more than use up pages) but there were not that many of them, just overly long ones.

There is a good bit of action, several interesting characters and a bad guy you will love to hate. Hard to beat that combination.

Bottom Line: Great way to start a new series with a great story. A couple of minor things were predictable and I can see some real possibility for some great stories. Lets call it 4 Stars and great entertainment.

"No one should die that way." - Jane

Homicide detective Jane Hart is investigating a murder outside of Hell...Hell's Gate that is, a club owned by the mysterious Aidan Locke. She senses the predator underneath his public face, feels something else when she looks at him too, but she can't put a label on that one yet.

"I own Hell." - Aidan

Aidan, the Pack alpha, knows everything that goes on in his city, and if he doesn't, he'll know soon. As is always the case with certain "special" cases, the ME knows exactly what to say to cover certain aspects that only a select few are allowed to know, those instructions are per Aidan.

"What am I supposed to do with you?" - Aidan

But Aidan knows that Jane isn't going to stop looking and she can't be persuaded to forget. Aidan has tried, literally. It's a power he has that does not work on Jane. Hmm...that's very interesting. What could it mean? What does it mean that Aidan is so intrigued with her, with her scent?

"Anyone going near her will deal with me." - Aidan

As she continues asking questions, Aidan does the only thing he can to protect her, thankfully it's something he wants to do anyway, he claims her. It isn't long before Aidan saves her, proving that she needs his protection.

"No, sweetheart, it's the beginning." - Aidan

The question though is who is after Jane and why? Is it the same person that's started a killing spree in the city? How does Jane's heartbreaking past impact her present, her future? It seems Jane is human, and yet, she's not. What does that mean for her? How does this effect(?) Aidan? A war is coming and both Aidan and Jane will be in the middle of it. Can they protect each other? What about the connection that continues to grow between them? What does that mean for them? How far will Aidan go to keep her?

This book had some things going for it like Aidan. But Jane ruined this book for me. She was definitely TSTL! She is a copy who can certainly take care of herself when it comes to humans but to insist that she could take care of herself against vampires and werewolves was ridiculous. She isn't as strong or fast and yet she insisted that she didn't need any help. Also the fact that she refused to kill blood thirsty vampires was crazy! Yep, then they were just able to go on to kill other people. Jane wouldn't listen to Aidan who was an Alpha werewolf because she "knew" better.

4 1/2 stars (rounded down to 4 stars, because there was a big plot hole that I couldn't let go: I don't mind minor plot holes when the story is as good as this, but that one was the basis for a plot twist so... yeah, no.)

This is the first book by Cynthia Eden I've read that is the start of a series about only one couple. I didn't realize that going in or I would've waited until my Christmas Vacation to read them all together. LOL

This story is about Jane, a NOLA Homicide Detective who shows up at a scene with a DB that was brutally murdered, where she meets our hero, Aidan. Of course, all is not what it seems, because there are paranormal forces at play right now. Jane gets pulled into a world of vampires and werewolves and a brewing war. Jane isn't a stranger to monsters. She has her own demons. Although, it still takes some adjusting for her.

Werewolves and vampires are mortal enemies. In this series, vampires are portrayed as pure evil. They kill without remorse...which is what gives our book an emotional punch. Aidan is the alpha and well, Jane is a born vampire...meaning if/when she dies violently, it will trigger her into becoming the vampire and she will supposedly lose all sense of herself and becoming Aidan's mortal enemy. One he will need to end. This could really lead to some great angst...except...I really had issues with Jane at times, so it is hard to get emotionally attached to her.

I enjoyed this book but at times I really wanted to just punch Jane. She kept putting herself in dangerous situations (yes, she's a homicide cop) but I felt she was making poor decisions. I don't think she trusted Aidan enough, especially at the end when she was supposed to trust him and promised she would, but didn't. She wanted to protect Aidan, I get it. But he asked her to trust him.

Anyway, this is the first book in this series. Jane does not get turned into a vampire in this book but I believe that is the way it is heading for book 2.

“I…need you,” Aidan confessed. “More than I realized. More than—” He broke off. “I will be back, I swear it. I’ll always come back for you.”

The story grabbed me quickly. There was something different about Aidan and Jane, and I couldn't wait to find out what that was.

I'm not sure if the right word is intriguing, but this story held me waiting for the results of the characters. First I wondered what species Aidan was, then it was Jane. By the end of this thrilling story I still wasn't sure which was the top of the paranormal food chain, the Wolf or the Vampire?

Best line in a scene..... He unhooked the button and slid down the zipper. Her gaze fell and when those jeans dropped— Aidan doesn’t believe in wearing underwear. Check. I’ll remember that. His hand reached for hers. "Will it hurt?” Jane blurted.

I did the audio along with reading which caused me to notice Ms. Eden writing style. After a few years of reading I've gotten kinda picky. But, it was one of the stories that was so good I just didn't care about the (he said, she said) use of constant verbs to describe whose speaking when not necessary. This story was a fast paced action paranormal read. And, if you're looking for your next book boyfriend this is the story for you... Excellent Read.

I've been distracted by others book when I put this on my "currently read" status.

totally love Aidan! but as for Mary Jane, well not my cup of tea nor coffee either, I feel something missing in the Mary Jane character. and I can't grasp what is missing there. she's badass, smart, assertive, and kind hearted completely kind of perfect heroine but I feel like she's counterfeit. well, still in book first probably get better in book two.

I like how Cynthia Eden making the plot and storyline! unexpected and unpredictable!
all in all this is an enjoyable installment.

4 stars

I've been craving some good PNR but didn't want to start a long serie so i finally tried this one.
It's typical Cynthia Eden : fast paced, strong characters with an alpha and badass heroine, suspense and a good story.
A lot is left unsaid so i'm very curious for the rest !

Book 1 in the Blood and Moonlight series

Jane has recently moved to New Orleans and is a homicide detective, she meets Aidan Locke on her first case when a body is discovered outside his club. Her first instinct is to shoot him and ask questions later because she knows he is dangerous. When she goes to the morgue only to be told that there is no body, no such murder ever took place and no-one else remembers anything about it, she starts to freak out. Things only get worse when she then meets Aidan Locke a couple of feet away from the dead body that doesn't exist and a victim who has apparently been murdered twice.

There is a war between Vampires and Werewolves looming and Jane is the prize. Locke is the alpha werewolf and when he discovers that Jane is his mate and that the vampires want her, he does everything in his power to keep her safe. Jane will not be coddled though and is determined to do her part, he can protect her but she will protect him too. Thane, master vampire, is the villain in this story and he is willing to manipulate everyone and anyone to get what he wants.

This was my first Cynthia Eden book, I enjoyed it and since it looks like the next book will continue Jane's story, I will definitely be reading it. I need some answers.

“If you ever want to let yourself go,” Aidan said. She glanced at him and found that bright gaze locked on hers. “I’ll be close by.” – Bite the Dust by Cynthia Eden

The first book in Cynthia Eden’s Blood and Moonlight series is set in the wonderfully colorful city of New Orleans. You may have come across paranormal romances focusing around the untraditional couple (one paranormal, one mundane), but Bite the Dust’s Jane and Aidan are definitely not reproductions. I am not a huge fan of series romance, instead favoring books within a series or standalones that have their own happily ever after. This work is an exception to my rule, however, and I will be adding the second book Better Off Undead to my to-be-read list!

As if Jane Hart’s newly acquired detective position is not enough to spice up her life, the paranormal is determined to overwhelm any semblance of normalcy. A strangely paranormal murder streak, the romantic interest of Aidan Locke, werewolf alpha and paranormal enforcer of New Orleans, and her own tenuously mortal status are going to drive her beyond the edge of sanity. Follow Jane through New Orleans into the realm of werewolves, vampires, and abnormal mortals. Everything seems to be working against Jane, powers much stronger than her own at work, but that does not mean she is going to take it lying down. Jane is ready to clean house, and Aiden is determined to keep her alive…and close at hand.

From reading the reviews, it looks like people either love or hate this one.

Being a long time fan of Cynthia Eden, I did love this. Yes, her writings are pretty damn similar. You always know you're getting a mix of paranormal story line and naughty bits. If you're looking for something Pulitzer worthy or earth shattering, move along. If you want to lose yourself for a day or two in a solid story that will leave you with some nice dream material, then it's a keeper.

Jane is a newly promoted Homicide detective hellbent on getting justice for the broken girl that is her first case. Unfortunately, this case will also stir up much of her past that still haunts her nightmares.

Aidan is the alpha werewolf of NoLa who is trying to keep his wolves and the humans of the city safe from an invading vampire.

The master vamp baddie is a bit of an afterthought and not much time is given to him, but this is really Jane & Aidan's story, and he's really just there to stir shit up, and of course, to try to take Jane from Aidan.
