Julie Marin has uncovered the mystery of Seelie Island but quickly realizes she’s only peeled back the first layer. As new secrets emerge, a powerful force draws her toward two men, Rory and Luke, but she refuses to be part of a cheesy love triangle. The problem is that fighting off the forced feelings and pressure from the people around her might make more enemies than she can handle.
If that’s not enough, Julie becomes the target of shadowy attacks. She’s not sure who’s behind it—she may even be causing it herself. Now she has to navigate the politics of the strange new world around her, decide whether to forgive her family for their lies, and gain control of her new abilities. If she can’t, her life may be on the line.
Can Julie escape the destiny everyone else wants for her, or is she stuck in someone’s deadly game for her dream of dancing, her heart, and her life?
I am a mother, a writer, and an avid reader. I write under a pen name due to another professional career. Everyone has a secret in their life, mine is writing.
I was excited to be able to read this one so quickly after reading the first book in the series, When Lightning Strikes. Julie continues to be an awesome character. She is pissed off in this book, and rightly so. Her feelings aren't her own, and now all these people are trying to make her choose between two guys she doesn't even want. I love how Julie stays strong and prioritizes herself and her dreams.
She's worked hard her whole life to be a dancer, and nobody is going to take that from her.
It looks like the third book is going to be amazing as well. I can't wait to find out what lies ahead for Julie.
Another great story about Julie, dancer fey, and her connected suitors, Luke and Rory. When Julie's human friends want to visit, the family and friends leave the island and go to another unprotected island. Julie gets kidnapped by scientist trying to figure out her powers. After she is rescued, it's back to the island for more training. Weird accidents seem to be following Julie where ever she goes and the residence are getting tired of all the fighting going on because of the double connection Julie has with her boys. She just wants to dance and get away from everything. So they send her to NY, to the dance academy she's dreamed of attending. BUT they sent her boys with her. LOL
This series just keeps getting better and better! When Lightning Ignites begins with our young heroine, Julie Marin, recuperating from a near-fatal expenditure of her own personal mystical energy. She knows the truth now, at least about who and what she is and she has discovered the reasons behind the strange memory loss that all of the island's young citizens experience whenever they become upset or start asking too many questions. Feeling betrayed and angry she struggles to come to terms with her new reality while shunning her parents. It's bad enough that the citizens of the island use mind-control to keep their children in the dark until either they come into their powers or they reach their eighteenth birthday but the realization that her own family manipulated and violated her in this way is an unforgivable offense in her opinion. To make matters worse, everyone now knows that she and Rory "connected". This rare and highly coveted magnetic pull to another person is all-consuming and only serves to complicate an already impossible situation.Julie is fighting the connection, having already broken up with Rory upon learning that he was also seeing another girl while they were together. No wonder he'd wanted to keep their relationship a secret! But everything has changed now that the island's residents realize just how powerful Julie is. Once believed to be a " dud", a person without power like her mother, she has now become a pawn in the island elite's bid for power. As she continues to slowly recover she learns more about the history of her people, The Fey, and the more she learns, the less she wants anything to do with any of them. Rory is desperate, willing to do anything to get back into Julie's good graces, but fate has another plan and when Lucas Black arrives on the island, restoring all of Julie's memories with the touch of his hand, the Fey and her family must acknowledge the fact that Julie shares the coveted "connection" with both of these young men! Furious with Luke for messing with her mind and causing her unnecessary heartache by stealing those important memories of her brief time with him and the other instance when she'd inadvertently wielded her particular gift, she wants nothing to do with him! No matter how much every fiber of her being craves his touch. Understandably, this mystical love triangle leads to more than one magical battle as Rory and Luke fight over her as if she is a prize to be won instead of an independent and powerful young woman with her own hopes and dreams, hopes and dreams that do not include love, marriage and producing a powerful heir to enhance either family's powerful line! Julie just wants to dance, to pursue her dream of attendng the Academy and landing a spot in a premiere dance company, but she must first learn how to control and how to wield her power. All while trying to control the physical and emotional pull to both Rory and Luke. An unseen enemy threatens her life while the island's powerful insist that she choose between Rory and Luke before her indecision leads to a war between the two tribes of Fey. But...no pressure! These stories really keep you hooked with a lot of action, fascinating and likable characters, and an intensely emotional storyline that can really resonate with so many young people despite the fact that this story takes place in the magical realm. I can not wait to start the next book!
When Lightning Ignites is both a paranormal romance and a love triangle, as well as the second book in the Lightning series. I thought book one was outstanding, but book two was even better! I was left once again with a massive book hangover!
The characters were complex and well developed. Julie continues fighting her attraction to Rory and Luke and pursuing her dreams of dancing. She has feelings for both men, and someone is bound to get hurt when she chooses. In the meantime, unexplained attacks and accidents start happening all around Julie, leaving Seelie Island unsafe for her. Who is trying to hurt Julie, and why?
The plot was fast paced and well written. I was riveted and could NOT put it down. The suspense was tremendous!
This is my second book by Kathleen Rovner. It is INCREDIBLE! I am totally hooked, and I've already downloaded and read book three as well. I highly recommend this book and series!
I cannot wait to read the next. (and hopefully more). I LOVED Book one, and this one didnt disappoint. The ONLY thing that bugged me was the constant reminder about the connection. I think by this time we all got the point. I would have enjoyed even more if the connection wasnt in every other sentence. Julie spends ALL her time being pulled in 2 literal and figurative directions.... Then the attacks pull her in a 3rd. No one can understand why the attacks are happening, nor how. So many begin assuming she is causing the accidents herself. Whether for attention of lack of control. I really like Luke, never could be ok with Rory, although cant quite put my finger on why. I HIGHLY recommend this series to everyone!
