Year One : The Aftermath of Societal Collapse

Rate this book
The lights go out. That isn't the moment you lose.

Most people picture collapse as one dramatic day. The brave rise up and everyone else panics. It's a comforting story, and I think it's wrong.

In Year One, the damage is slow. Power instability pulls communications, water, sewage, fuel, payments and healthcare out from under you. The real injury comes from what people do when coordination disappears.

This is a field manual for the aftermath, written from one concrete place. A modern detached house on the edge of a market town in rural Scotland. A wife, a grown-up child, a dog, a hybrid car, mountain bikes, solar and some hard-won training. The failure starts in summer, and the real killing season arrives later.

Inside you'll

The cascade of grid, fuel and civil failure, explained stage by stage

Water, waste and hygiene routines that stop the quiet household outbreak

Heat, damp and food planning for a Scottish winter

Security without theatre, and why being uninteresting beats being strong

Micro-groups, rare trade, reputation and the coercion ladder

Health when medicine is scarce

A full year's supplies list, eleven printable drill sheets and one-page checklists

Each chapter has two voices. The calm, structured chapter voice, and the After Action Notes, which are the truth you mutter to yourself when nobody is listening.

The author is deliberately not named. Forty years in high-consequence offshore environments, supervising chambers at depth, taught them what fear looks like when it's honest and when it's denied. Dyslexia taught them to read people before text. Psychology gave them a framework.

This book isn't here to scare you. It's about procedures, not fantasies. Read it once like a story. Then run the drills. Then keep it for reference.

Some of it will make you uncomfortable. Good. Discomfort is cheaper than regret.

If everything stays hard for a year, who do you become?
