Captive Soul

Camille and John's romance is an improvement on the last book. Their chemistry builds slowly and their emotional attachment is intense and meaningful.
John is a fantastic hero with both the physical and spiritual strength to battle the dark essence within him and to fight for Camille's love. Nevertheless, the fact that he never manages to is disappointing as is the failure to explain whether or not he . Unfortunately, Camille is not as strong a heroine. She comes across and whiny, pathetic and weak, and is constantly running away from problems and confrontations without facing up to the consequence of her actions.
In terms of the ongoing storyline, the Rakshasa plot ratchets up a notch with more details concerning their origins and their current alliances. The mystery surrounding the Sibyl Quad's enigmatic sentience powers is also explained further and seems to be going in an interesting direction.
The writing mainly flows but has a tendency to become bogged down in excessive detail and lengthy descriptions, which slows the pacing down.
Overall, Anna Windsor's world building is original and captivating, and Captive Soul is a satisfying read. I am eager to read the next book to discover how Andy and Jack get past their differences to become a couple and to see how the Rakshasa are ultimately vanquished.

I love this series, but I really struggled with this book. I almost DNF'd it a few times... not because of the story but because the book was FULL of typos. Every page had mispelled words or random punctuation in the middle of a sentence. Normally I can ignore a typo here or there but this was bad. Maybe I got a bad copy, but it made it hard to enjoy the story.

Seriously boring. So much talk, lousy action, poor character development, sucking pace, but I read it from beginning till the end.

แม็กซ์รีบลัดคิวหยิบหนังสือเล่มนี้มาอ่านเกือบทันทีที่ได้มาเลยค่ะ เพราะค้างคาใจกับตอนจบของเรื่อง Captive Spirit อยู่ไม่น้อย ที่สำคัญเราปิ๊งคาแร็คเตอร์ของพระเอกเล่มนี้มาตั้งแต่ครั้งแรกที่ได้พบกับเขา และลุ้นมาก ๆ ให้เขามีโอกาสเป็นพระเอก
อย่างไรก็ตาม รีวิวหนังสือเล่มนี้จะเป็นการสปอยล์ตอนจบของเืรื่อง Captive Spirit นะคะ ดังนั้นถ้าใครยังไม่ได้อ่านเล่มแรก และมีความตั้งใจที่จะอ่าน ก็ขอให้ข้ามรีวิวนี้ไปเลยค่ะ เพราะมันเป็นไม่ได้เลยที่จะเขียนรีวิวโดยไม่พูดถึงสปอยล์อันนี้ เนื่องจากมันเป็นหัวใจของเรื่องเลยก็ว่าได้

แม็กซ์อ่านหนังสือในชุด The Dark Crescent Sisterhood ของแอนนา วินเซอร์ที่เล่าเรื่องราวของกลุ่มนักรบหญิงที่เรียกตัวเองว่า ซิบิล ซึ่งมีพลังในการควบคุมพลังของดิน น้ำ ลม และไฟ ได้ แต่เหตุการณ์บางอย่างในอดีต ทำให้ซิบิลที่ควบคุมน้ำหายไปจากโลกใบนี้ ทำให้ซิบิลที่เหลืออีกสามกลุ่มรวมตัวกันก่อตั้งเป็นองค์กรที่ฝึกฝนลูกหลาน ของตัวเองให้เชี่ยวชาญในพลังที่เหลืออยู่ จากนั้นแต่ละสถาบันก็จะส่งนักเรียนซิบิลที่สำเร็จการศึกษามาทำงานร่วมกัน จับกลุ่มเป็นกลุ่มละสามคน ดูแลพื้นที่ต่าง ๆ ทั่วโลก

เพราะในคืนวันนั้น คามิลล์ ซึ่งโผล่เข้าไปช่วยดันแคนจัดการกับสตราดา ได้ทำบางอย่างที่ไม่ควรมีซิบิลคนไหนทำได้ เธอใช้ร่างตัวเองเป็นสื่อ ส่งผ่านวิญญาณของจอห์น เข้าไปในร่างของสตราดา เธอทำโดยไม่รู้ตัว ดังนั้นเมื่อสตราดาปรากฎตัวขึ้นในชีวิตเธอในอีกหนึ่งปีหลังจากนั้น คามิลล์ก็แน่ใจว่า เขาคือศัตรู
แต่วิญญาณของสตราดาถูกกำจัดไปจนเหลือเป็นแค่จิตใต้สำนึกเล็ก ๆ คนที่ครอบครองร่างของเขาอยู่ คือจอห์น โคล ผู้ชายคนที่ไม่แน่ใจเหมือนกันว่า ตัวเองคืออะไร

จุดเด่นอีกอย่างนึงในเรื่องนี้ก็คือ พล็อต ที่เราคิดว่า คนแต่งเก่งค่ะ ที่ผูกเอาเรื่องราว ปมที่ทิ้งไว้ในเล่มก่อนหน้ามาร้อยเรียงให้น่าสนใจได้ ในเล่มนี้เราก็ได้รู้ความจริงถึงการล่มสลายของซิบิลแห่งน้ำ รับรู้ถึงอดีตการต่อสู้กันระหว่างซิบิลและรากษส อีกทั้งเรายังชอบการที่เธอทำให้คนอ่านได้เห็นเรื่องจากหลายมุมมอง ในสามเล่มแรก เหล่า "มาเธอร์" ซึ่งเป็นผู้นำของซิบิลถูกบรรยายในฐานะของผู้ใหญ่ที่เคารพ แต่ในเล่มนี้เราได้มองเหล่ามาเธอร์จากอีกมุมนึง จากเหล่าซิบิลที่ไม่ใช่ลูกรัก (เพราะกลุ่มของเบลา และคามิลล์ไม่ใช่ซิบิลที่เก่ง หรือโดดเด่นในตอนเด็ก)
สุดท้ายเราคงต้องขอกลับไปที่สปอยล์ใหญ่ของเรื่องอีกครั้ง ว่าคนแต่งฉลาดค่ะ เพราะ พล็อตการเอาพระเอกไปสิงอยู่ในร่างของคนร้ายมันค่อนข้างเสี่ยง โดยเฉพาะเมื่อคิดถึงสิ่งที่สตราดาได้ทำมา แต่มันเวิร์คสำหรับเรา เพราะจอห์น โคลในร่างกายที่แท้จริงของตัวเองไม่เคยมีบทบาทในเรื่องชุดนี้ เขาออกมาในตอนแรกของเล่มสี่ แล้วก็ตายลงอย่างรวดเร็ว คามิลล์ไม่เคยเจอเขาในรูปลักษณ์ที่แท้จริงด้วยซ้ำ ทำให้เมื่อเขาย้ายมาใช้ร่างของสตราดา มันจึงไม่ใช่ปัญหาสำหรับเธอ (เพราะไม่ต้องเปรียบเทียบกับร่างที่แท้จริง)
บอกตามตรงว่า ยิ่งได้อ่านงานของแอนนา วินเซอร์ ก็ยิ่งชอบเธอมากขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ มันไม่ใช่ว่า เธอเขียนดีขึ้นมาก ๆ จากเล่มก่อน ๆ ในอดีตหรอกค่ะ แต่เป็นเพราะความคงเส้นคงวาของเธอ ที่เราบอกเลยว่า คุณภาพไม่แตกต่างกัน แถมยังทำให้เราแปลกใจกับพล้อตเรื่องได้อีกต่างหาก ตอนนี้ก็ต้องลุ้นว่า ภาวะเศรษฐกิจที่ไม่ค่อยดีของอเมริกา จะทำให้เธอได้ต่อสัญญาเขียนเรื่องในชุดนี้เพิ่มขึ้นอีกไหม (ซึ่งข่าวมาไม่ค่อยดีค่ะว่า อาจจะไม่ได้ต่อ)

สุดท้ายเราคงต้องขอกลับไปที่สปอยล์ใหญ่ของเรื่องอีกครั้ง ว่าคนแต่งฉลาดค่ะ เพราะ พล็อตการเอาพระเอกไปสิงอยู่ในร่างของคนร้ายมันค่อนข้างเสี่ยง โดยเฉพาะเมื่อคิดถึงสิ่งที่สตราดาได้ทำมา แต่มันเวิร์คสำหรับเรา เพราะจอห์น โคลในร่างกายที่แท้จริงของตัวเองไม่เคยมีบทบาทในเรื่องชุดนี้ เขาออกมาในตอนแรกของเล่มสี่ แล้วก็ตายลงอย่างรวดเร็ว คามิลล์ไม่เคยเจอเขาในรูปลักษณ์ที่แท้จริงด้วยซ้ำ ทำให้เมื่อเขาย้ายมาใช้ร่างของสตราดา มันจึงไม่ใช่ปัญหาสำหรับเธอ (เพราะไม่ต้องเปรียบเทียบกับร่างที่แท้จริง)

See book 1 for series thoughts.
I loved the dual soul conflict in this one and John Cole is a great character. It was also interesting seeing Camille's story after all she had been through. This book was interesting, because while it moved the overarching backstory of the loss of Atlantis and the water Sibyls farther along, it was a little less grounded in the romance. Still great, but not quite as hot and heavy to me as some of the other books.

The army from hell
Absolutely Fabulous! Can she tame his demon? Can the Quad defeat an army? Sounds like a tall order. Wonderfully written, and characters that live and breathe. If you are into paranormal, magic, romance then you will adore this series. Highly recommended

Omg this book was horrible. It was boring, slow paced, to many types of characters, uninteresting plot I can go on and on. I had to drag myself to finish this book as I can’t leave books unfinished no matter how much I wanted to with this one. I personally don’t recommend this one.

A great installment to the series. From my standpoint it shows that difficulties can be overcome and second chances at life can mean more to some and have a ripple effect.

Camille Fitzgerald is a fire Sybil, but unlike her other fire Sybils she is unable to call and control her fire. John Cole has been a spirit hanging around in his friend, Duncan's head until Camille finally sets him free, but his spirit ends up in the body of Camille’s enemy. The Dark Crescent Sisterhood is a fabulous, romantic ride due to the location of Manhattan and all the characters. *loved* Camille and Johns attraction was definitely page turning but they weren't the whole story. Cole he has a fear of losing control to his enemies and Camille is afraid up giving up her control to Cole. Now its time for John to figure out a way to become free of Strada’s soul without dying himself and a way to be with the one he loves.
The world of The Dark Crescent Sisterhood is not only passionate, but a thrilling ride. I loved the way Camille got the chance to grow throughout the story. The one who once felt shunned on is now the one calling the shots. John is a fighter, he doesn't just fight for his freedom but for the woman he has fallen in love with. Captive Soul is a novel that really compliments the series.
Since the start of the very first book in the series you get a chance to fall in love with a whole new world. I enjoyed this world greatly. Different, hip, and loved the kick ass women!! Usually its the men trying to save the world, but not here, girl power all the way.
I really do enjoy this series but this book sets you up for more never ending questions. John and Camille have their own personal demons and doubts they are trying to figure out by themselves. John has gone from his own body, into living in two others and still trying to be himself and keep his control. Camille must discover how to keep control of her new fire abilities without taking others down with her. Their love story is complicated but adorable. The whole book is really about the war against their enemy more than falling into their relationship.
I liked this book better than the first, but I didn't just fly through this one like I have with the others. Although I loved the couple and the storyline, I was more interested in the characters for the next release Captive Heart. The first story had to have a lot of plot building, so I had hoped this one would move along with more action. If you haven't read this series, start with the first trilogy. Even though it is long, the series is a good one and I am excited to move on to the next book, Captive Heart, to see where this battle will finally take them

Captive Soul moved the back story of the Sybils and how the 3 remaining elements evolved after the Water Sybils were killed a lot. This book concentrated more on the plot and less on the romance thank the previous 5, although there was plenty of heat when the romance was center stage.
John Cole is living in a different body, cohabitating, as it were, with a demon. He was previously coinhabiting Duncan's (from Captive Spirit) body. Camille managed to wrest him out of Duncan and into his current host, Strada. His soul also mingled briefly with Camille's, so to say they have a history is a bit of an understatement. John spemds months in the Strada body watching Camille, trying to learn to control the demon so he doesn't hurt her. He enlists the help of another set of good demons, who help him control his darker impulses.
Camille feels like a failure for letting Strada get away. She adds this to the long list of perceived failures on her part, such as being unable to generate Fire, her element. Without giving too much away, she and the rest of her quad find out they have different abilities than other Sybils. We are given vignettes into Camille's past, how she always feels like an outsider, like she isn't good enough, and how destroyed she was when her first Triad was killed. She is a very sympathetic character, but never falls into the wimpy category.
John is the type of hero who is always going to do the right thing, regardless of his own personal cost. He has put his whole life into fighting the demons, only to find himself inhabiting the body of one of his sworn enemies. He puts Camille on a high pedestal. He declares his intention to his best friend, Duncan, to marry her almost from their first "live" interaction. He is goal oriented, and so completely in love with Camille. He's afraid that one day, the demon inside him will get the upper hand, though.
We don't have a whole lot of scenes with just Camille and John, but the ones we do have count. I love how Anna Windsor writes love scenes. It's more than just sex. It's touching, caressing, holding...it's the characters enjoying each other on a whole different level than a lot of writers bother with. This can be in an actual sex scene, or when they are in a group and Camille leans into John to show support, or he puts his hand on the small of her back...it's the attention to the romantic detail that gets me, and Ms. Windsor is really, really good at the details.
This book is action packed and never really lets go of the reader. I could have done without the level of POV of the villians, though. Honestly, I skimmed some of it, then realized there was information about the Sybils hidden in their viewpoints, so I had to go back and reread. The pace is quick and the resolution was satisfying. The end was perfect, and I can't wait to start Captive Heart!

Tortured by the death of her previous triad and guilty about her lack of control for her minimal powers, the heroine goes out nightly in an attempt to track down the demon who got away. Little does she know, or rather remember, that in the previous book of the series, after a nasty battle which killed the hero, the heroine transplanted his spirit into the body of the dead demon. She's shocked to realize that her greatest enemy is now her closest friend. When the spirit transfer was made, the hero and heroines souls touched and as a result, they are permanently linked to one another. The heroine admits that even after knowing the hero for only a day or so, she's madly in love with him because of their soul connection.
The hero has had a hard life starting with his tortured memories of the war and then losing his faith and leaving the priesthood and finally dying only to be reawaken in the body of a demon who urges him to kill and become evil.
I liked the story but the entire first half of the book has very little at all to do with the two main characters coming together. Instead it's focused on the heroine and her issues with her powers and the elders of the coven. She's fought all her life to be useful and with her new triad, she wants nothing more than to keep them alive and make them proud. She's warm and kind and you really feel connected to her. The hero is kind and lost in the struggle to maintain his humanity and I really liked him too. Together they had made a good match but the romance was tame. Just after the first boring half of this book, the two characters literally jumped into bed together lick-a-dee split, no questions asked. From there, they went on dates, fought and fucked but there was no tension between the two. You need something extra to spicy up the tale and that's what this book lacked.

I like this series and this is the second book in the second trilogy. John and Camille have their own personal demons and doubts to combat to win against their new enemy. John has gone from his own body, to living inside Duncan's head for a while, to being thrust into a demon's body he must control to remain himself. Camille must discover how to tame and control her new pyrosentience. Their love story is complicated and cute. But we spend more time in the war against their new enemy than falling into their love. I liked this book better than the first, but it is not the page-turning obsession I had hoped for. The first story had to have a lot of plot building, so I had hoped this one would move along with more action. It's about a 100 pages to long, it gets bogged down in the lengthy, lengthy, amount of details. I found myself skimming through sections only reading the dialogue to get to the action which starts moving in the last 100 pages. I don't feel like I missed anything. If you haven't read this series, start with the first trilogy. Even though it is long, the series is a good one.

I thought the tangled weave of the different cliques formed throughout the Sybil communities was interesting to read about. The way Camille is shown in the prologue as this girl who is more or less shunned makes us understand her more as the woman she has become. John is this man who is so strong as he fights, not only for his freedom, but for the woman he loves as well as the safety of those around him. Yet at the same time, we see him as a man willing to show his emotions and support Camille instead of shove her behind him when there is danger. Captive Soul is a novel that really compliments the series and paranormal books of its ilk.

I am giving this one 4 stars because I could probably read parts of it wink wink over an over again and never get tired of it. Love the dynamic and the twists...but it almost got dropped to 3 stars because the ending...it just stopped...I was getting close to the last page wondering how is she going to wrap it up so quickly? She didn't...it just kind of stopped...more like a to be continued. The other books in the series had a clear conflict and clear resolution even though the story had obvious characters that could warrant another book. This story had a clear conflict...and it clearly was not resolved...which would make it more of a part 1 - part 2 rather thank two books in a 6 part series.

This one was definitely fun :) I absolutely adored the level of complexity Windsor managed to include in the relationships. There could have been more, but it was nonetheless a satisfying read. Admittedly, many of the characters took a markedly backseat to John and Camille in this one, so I'm not really sure how much Windsor left for us to anticipate the next novel. At first, I thought I was mostly looking forward to Andy's story, but now I want to hear Dio's really. Oh well, I hope the water Sibyl's story will be good!

This book was even better than #4 and I didn't think that was possible. Camille was endearing. She didn't come across as pathetic or weak. Her relationship with Ona was touching and I found myself wanting to learn more about Ona and Elana than I did about John and Camille. Great story and well worth the read!

WOW. This was amazing! I totally loved John Cole. What a heartbreaker. This book really ramped up the action and the power of the quad. I can't wait for the conclusion. I am dying to see who brings down the big bad guys and how. Though I'm hoping it's going to be

It took me more time to read this book than it truly deserves. Another installment in the series which is very good. I love Camille's character. She is so dedicated, so caring of the ones she loves, but not only. I'm truly sad that there is just only one book left.

This new series by Anna Windsor, still has yet to disappoint me. But I definitely think with each book, the series gets better and better.
