I can honestly say that I am not usually a historical fiction or war story fiction buff, usually because authors change the facts to suit their characters. But I liked this story- young man to adult, the sacrifices of the military life, and the uncertainty of war. All universal with appeal to both men and women. Malcolm Aylward’s story stayed true; he did not re-write history, he wrote characters that fit the history- that is an art
