*3.75 Interesting story arc and characters. The modern day prologue/epilogue (which Ms Le Veque had done before) was fine except I wish we would have gotten a detailed epilogue about Kenton and Nicola. I always enjoy when the author includes children in her story line because she writes them well but I could have done without yet another "crazy" older person who lives in the castle walls...there was no point to this character. While this book (thankfully!!) had more romance than the past few KLV's books, I wanted more "show" than "tell" about their feelings so when it came to the "I love you's" it was a bit more believable. All in all - a solid read.

I liked this book but was displeased with the way that the treachery situation was handled. I won't go into details as not to spoil it for others but suffice to say it lost a star for me just on this one situation alone.

A Great Story

4.5 Stars - I enjoyed the story of Kenton Le Bec and Nicola Aubrey-Thorne. It was enthralling! He is a powerful knight for Warwick who was sent to lay siege to Babylon Castle and there he encounters the beautiful and willful widow, Lady Thorne. She also has three rambunctious children ages six and under. She fights Kenton every chance she gets. This frustrates the powerful knight. With such opposing loyalties - Kenton fights for King Henry and Lady Nicola fights in her own way for Edward, these two have quite the journey. I loved the action and I loved having Matthew Wellsbourne and Gaston de Russe in this story. They were much younger here.

There is intrigue, questionable loyalties, betrayal, forgiveness, tenderness and love.

The only thing I would have liked to have seen was a classic Le Veque Epilogue. I prefer those.

This book is an enjoyable read. I look forward to the next one.

It's a bit head scratching to follow the lineage in each of the books but when I don't get it, I just read the story and enjoy it. I had not read any of the De Wolf books recently so I was a bit lost on the lineage. I gave in. My memory is lousy anyway and that's why I tend to re-read books and think they're new.

I really love the heroine Lady Nicola. She does something incredibly bone-headed but once she realises her mistake she sets out to fix it. Kenneth Le Bec falls in love with her every time he discovers something she has done in his favor. He soon comes to realise that Nicola is his equal and unlike any woman he has met before.

There is a "sort of" bad guy in the story who is really quite a good guy. I'd like to know more of his story and I hope a lady catches his eye.

Hmph

As much as I like glimpses of the future (present times) in relation to the past, as I have stood in many old and derilict castles and cathedrals myself, I would much prefer that the epilogue for this story maybe contained a mixture of the two.

I would very much liked to know, in real time, what happened with Kenton and Nicola going forward as opposed to what we got, which was a surly, weak, and somewhat fearful modern man unappreciative and dismissive of his wife's interests.

So. It gets a 5 for the love story, and a zero for the modern twist that, truthfully, sucked dirty bollocks.

Maddening heroine

Great story and twist that gutted me and made me hate the h even if she redeemed herself. I wish the betrayal wasn't forgiven easily.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW

In this wonderfully emotional story we find what a woman scorned is capable of. She is indeed a force to be reckoned with. But what if her scorn is built on a falsehood? Ah, the skies fall, the torrent of hurt is overpowering, and once again, with this turn, Le Veque will take you on a journey which in the end, will leave its mark on you.

This particular story is narrated by Sean Patrick Hopkins. His narration doesn’t really enhance or detract from the story. The story, in and of itself, is very satisfying and he delivers dialogue well enough.

Sir Kenton le Bec is a giant of a man. He, being so good at what he does, is the attack dog for Sir Warwick who aligns himself with King Henry.

Equally fierce and determined is Nicola, the widow of a brutal and undeserving man, recently passed from an infected wound. Her fierceness in protecting her children and her eldest’s title and Babylon, for now he carries the title of Baron, will be the turning point of this tragedy. Her fierceness becomes vindictive and paralyzingly anguishing before all is done.

Nicola fights Sir Kenton, tooth and nail, as it were, who has now taken siege of Babylon castle. But the animosity changes. Sir Kenton begins to admire the spirit of the woman, and she equally gains respect for the knight, for not only is Sir Kenton a great warrior, he is a kind soul and a man of his word. (here I wish Nicola would remember this when she overhears something about her, not directed to her) He sees her children need guidance and with expecting nothing more, he gives them the guidance they have never had in their lives. A spark of attraction is lit between Sir Kenton and Lady Nicola, but love is not linear, it takes its twists and turns, becoming ultimately richer through the journey.

Le Veque always writes a tale where emotion keeps me in the grips of a good story. As a author, her books are page-turners. If you are one who loves the medieval era, honorable knights who will eventually having you sigh with ultimate satisfaction of their deeds well done, don’t miss this author’s work. She has written so many novels, you would think she would run out of plotlines, but they are all fresh and entertaining.

Bingung mau review gimana. Ini buku dengan cerita yang lumayan panjang. Sekitar dua puluh tujuh chapter, cmiiw.

When Sir Kenton Le Bec takes Babylon for Henry, he is victorious in a very difficult battle, but as with the complexities of war, all is not as it seems for Warwick's 'attack dog'.
The beautiful, intelligent and wilful Lady Nicola Thorne surprises the huge, heroic, stoic Sirk Kenton in ways he could not begin to imagine and so with unexpected twists and turns, Kenton finds himself falling in love with the Lady Thorne and her adorable three sons.
Nicola's heart, which has been lonely and cold for so long, starts to thaw and soon she realises that she too is falling for Sir Kenton, even though he is the 'enemy'.
But after mistakenly eavesdropping in on a conversation she was never meant to hear, and finding herself broken hearted, hurt and foolish, she betrays the man she loves before coming to regret it, after it's too late!
This is a complicated and very emotional love story.
The characters caught up in this vivid tale are so engaging and completely believable that my stomach twisted in knots most of the way through this wonderful book.
As they both fight between betrayal and trust against each other, this taught and tense love story unfolds.
But as usual, it is the way Kathryn Le Veque writes this delicious tale, which pulls you in. Tab, Teague and Tiernan are comical and just waiting to be loved, and Kenton starts to feel emotions he has long forgotten about. The dialogue is so engaging and poignant, that you will remember this moving love story for a very long time.

4.5 Undying love.

Kenton, an accomplished and feared knight for Warwick, seized Babylon castle for his liege. Inside he found the feisty and stubborn Lady Nicola and her 3 sons. Nicola fought him at every turn until they began to see something in each other that they couldn’t resist. When Kenton declared his love for her she did not believe him because she overheard him telling his knights he was using her for information. So she betrayed him and that led to his capture. When she realized she was wrong she plotted to set him free. Theirs is a story of undying love that is worth reading. I did not score it a 5 because for a good part of the book I didn’t like Nicola. The other reason is that I don’t understand why this book is included in De Wolfe Pack since there are no De Wolfes in the book.

I'm a relative newcomer to the works of medieval romance fiction writer Kathryn Le Veque, but I've been completely taken in by her complex interrelated stories and amazing characterization. (She's one of the few writers who can take a character who has done terrible things and make him sympathetic.) I thoroughly enjoyed the de Wolfe Pack series up until now, and I am glad to see more are coming.

This one was one of my favorites of the series. I think I enjoyed it so much because of the wonderful characters of the 3 young sons of Lady Thorne, or "little men" as they were called. Young Tab is quite fierce for a 5-year-old. He has an amazing backstory, and his evolving relationship with the hero is just as interesting to follow as the hero's with the heroine.

A Full Circle Love Story

Not only character rich, this novel takes you on a journey consisting of abuse, love, betrayal, forgiveness, departure and reunion.

Walls of Babylon is a true Love story taking place in the medieval time period rich in history of 1471 A.D. While reading this novel, it reminded me of my own love story to a man I have been with for 40 yrs and still love deeply. While reading, I laughed, cried and recalled my own experiences of love and devotion. In the end you will recall that old saying, There is no place like home.

This is another amazing book you won't want to miss in the de Wolfe Pack series.

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title.
I suppose it is often a wish, that a building could indeed tell us it's stories, of lives that had once lived and loved, within.
However, this is also a time when neighbors are against neighbors. When two people cause a civil war, for the fight for the English Crown.
This is a time when knights are supreme tools for their overlords, doing the dastardly deeds they are commanded to do. It is a great man, to keep to his own ideals, to his own standards of chivalry, in such times.
Yes, a book to make you think and reflect. A very good yarn.

Walls of Babylon: Absolutely Wonderful!

Walls of Babylon, book 14 in Kathryn Le Veque’s De Wolfe Pack series, was a phenomenal story. I’m not usually a fan of enemies to lovers, but in this case it couldn’t be more perfect. Kenton Le Bec laid siege to Babylon Castle, home of Lady Nicola Thorne and her young boys, only to lose his heart the young family. Will their love survive the treachery that is afoot at Babylon, and will the war between Henry and Edward ever end, so that the battle weary knight may live in peace. This was a beautifully written story of betrayal, forgiveness and a love for the ages! A must read!

A prequel of first knights in Le Veque' s previous books, the powerful knight, Sir Kenton le Bec, takes the strategically located castle of Babylon for Warrick. Lady Thorne and her young sons become his captives, but a lonely man discovers that love can overcome opposing sides and offer forgiveness. Accelerated heartbeat and nail biting untill the end. Don't be surprised if you have a few gulps and tears.

Wonderful story!

This was a wonderful story but not long enough! I wanted it to continue through the lives of Kenton and Nicola and their children. So now I've finished the 14th book. What to do, what to do?? Hmm, think I'll check out some of le Veque's other books. I cannot get enough of this author's wirk!

Great Story

Great characters in this medieval romance. Nicola was an interesting heroine who almost was her own worst enemy. I enjoyed the plot as the author solved the situation the characters worked themselves into. A good read.

A must have

I was enthralled with this book. It ended wait too soon. I wish that Kenton and Nicola could have had a few days together, finding out that Nicola was expecting and for the boys to see Kenton as their father. Thank you Kathryn for another book I couldn't put down.

It was the best of the series I've read. You can see that by how long it took me to read it compared to the others. Except for the very first one. The kids were cute too... Still not perfect and I would have loved if we could have seen the relationship with all the kids grow. But it was a good one.

Great Story, as Always!

My only problem with this story is that it took so long to get to the climax! But I did enjoy following the history behind Edward regaining his throne, as well as Kenton's awakening of his soul to love! I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys medieval history and a good love story!
