Editors usually ask this question "What is your target audience?" Editors cringe at the way I answer this question for "Salmon Prose."1) Salmon fiction the first two short stories are pure fantasy and quite unlike what most people would expect from a scientist/angler.2) Salmon conservation you may agree, disagree, or simply find intriguing ideas here, but there is plenty to consider if the reader is actively engaged in salmon management or efforts to influence management decisions.3) Salmon and steelhead if you fish, there is much to stimulate discussion here, again, not necessarily the stuff one would read in the traditional press.4) Students of the hatchery versus wild fish oh-yes, "Salmon Prose" is chock-full of information and advice on this touchy subject.5) Nicholas "cult" if you are among the few who follow my diverse writing, read on for a wild roller-coaster voyage touching on everything from the most professional to most personal aspects of my work with Pacific salmon. This book is comprised of previously published material, accompanied by new material and a few photos and sketches. The material is so diverse that many pieces should probably be digested one-at-a-time, so as not to risk exploding your head. Only a madman free from the constraints of a sensible editor would jam all of these pieces into one book cover. But here they are, and I invite you to enjoy, consider, and tolerate as you read.Jay W.
