4.5 star...This one hand an interesting concept that I don't think I've read before. I didn't relax reading it the whole time and I kept wondering how the author would pull everything off. I shouldn't have been surprised this is G.A doing it ;-)

1.5 Heart Review by Kat

I fear that I am going to be blasted for my review of this book, but I have to be true to myself and give an honest review.

I have seen that this author, G.A. Hauser, has a large and loyal fan group of her books and I was excited to finally get to read one. Again, this was another new author for me so I was not aware of her style of writing. Unfortunately, it just didn’t work for me. I had a hard time believing the general premise of the story. Ex-military to NYPD patrolman to security guard to running off with the armed robber that exchanged gunfire with him in the robbery, then wounding each other after the shooting.

Dax had always been a live-by-the-law, honest type of guy, and, though he did struggle with this, he chose to throw it all away. I just didn’t believe that this would happen. Then, after all they went through, worrying that they are going to be caught any minute, there’s a HEA??? I had a hard time finishing the book. It never grabbed me and didn’t keep my attention for long. I also had a hard time believing that an ex-military/police officer/security guard/alpha male could be over powered by a smaller man and have questionable, if not non-consensual, sex. There was a certain “will they get caught” intrigue to the novel and there was some hot sex, when I wasn’t questioning if it was consensual.

All-in-all, I have to say it was a definite no for me. I tried really hard to like the story, and I did like both Dax and Corey, but I had a difficult time embracing their relationship based on the events that transpired. It just left me questioning if it was even feasible for them to be a couple, as well as questioning the HEA. So, with all of these feelings, I can only give the storyline 1.5 stars…it just wasn’t it for me.

I am not going to tell what the story is about since the blurb above covers it quite well. If you are waiting for my usually line of this is a sweet romance….its not coming. Its edgy, angsty, emotional, and sexy. There are scenes that walk a thin line on the border of non consent when Corey and Dax battle for dominance and a touch of violence when Corey robs the jewelry store. I loved Dax’ battle between right and wrong, then his feelings for Corey.
My heart went out to both men in very different ways. Though what Corey did was very wrong and I felt he did not mean to implement Dax the way he did, part of me wondered if he didn’t plan it that way. Dax' inner turmoil was perfect. I felt so many emotions while reading this story and highly recommend it.
If you like something different, angsty, edgy stories with some hot mans-ex this is for you.
