Two hundred thousand years before today, the very first modern man, Omo, is on a mission to find his real parents.
After being ridiculed all his life—for looking very different from everyone else—and following a series of tragic events, Omo decides to abandon his Clan. However, his northern Ethiopian trek is beset with hardships, not least of which is his near starvation. But he overcomes them all with ingenuity and with a little assistance from Ava, the love of his life.
The couple now continues the journey together and Omo is finally able to find his father. Enolo lives near a lush paradise, called the Garden, but he is not who Omo expected him to be. On the contrary, Enolo holds dark and terrible secrets.
Through also a variety of myths, stories, and dreams, Omo’s tale shows us how much it has influenced the Jewish, Greek, and Babylonian cultures that were to appear millennia later. At the same time, it also illustrates how his personal growth would eventually give us the basic tenets of what constitute humanity today.

The first three quarters of the book was excellent. Then the author gave Omo (the main character) a dream where Mother Nature tells him that he must warn all his descendants about the evils of religion. Basically the author blames all the world's woes on religion. Now that may be the author's opinion but it is a blatant attack on peoples of faith who are probably the ones most interested in a fictional approach to the story of Adam and Eve. Also, from that point on the story becomes choppy, like the author is trying to wrap up the book. Finally, the Epilogue is weak. Great book in death spiral at the end.

As a very thoughtful and creative retelling of the Adam and Eve story, "First Adam: The Father of Us All" is ironic in that it isn't predictable, regardless of how well one knows the Bible story. The story is an allegory. The names of the principle characters and settings have been changed. The surprises come in not knowing who or what detail will parallel a character or detail from the Adam and Eve story. Very entertaining and highly recommended!
