3.75 Stars. I did not like the murder mystery as much as some of the other books. However, when it came to the paranormal aspects especially in the last 1/3 of the book, it was a lot of fun. Really big bad vamp and his gross minions made for some great action scenes. I'm also happy to say I can finally put the lesfic tag on this book. Happy Dance! The romance is just starting but feelings were finally admitted to, and they are dating, so I'm a happy camper.

Dissapointed

It's the 4th book of the series, the plots were relatively the same - The murders were as gruesome as ever but this time they sounded a bit O.T.T., some idiotic vampires trying to overthrow Raven's mum, Raven was as badass as ever, she needed some attitude adjustment though, IMO.

Rupe was finally dating and Raven was still single.. She hadn't been dating for the past two years, since she jumped into a relationship immediately with that pretty Francois in Book 1.. A new love interest was introduced in Book 2 but until Book 4, nothing happened.

Maybe Ms.Knizley didn't want to rush things up between Raven and Aspen but the slow built-up wasn't working. For a lab tech/forensic wonderwitch, Aspen appeared as a lovestruck pre teen, needy for Raven's attention / affection and Raven was brushing her off. That really pissed me off...
I'm taking a long break from this series..

Shadows Escape From The Past

•••NOT for the homophobic or closedminded•••

This series must be read in order. The first book is Stormrise. The second book is Stormrage. The third book is Stormwind. This is the fourth book.

The serial killer that stole so much of her (dead) father's time from Raven is back. Now she has to stop the killing before she becomes a victim herself.... Or worse. Can she solve the case that stumped her father and Frost (for her whole entire life) before it is too late? Or will the case that was Mason's obsession be the end of her and all she loves?

Written from both Mason's and Raven's point of view this book encompasses both the past and present killing sprees creating a unique reding experience. Almost all the unanswered(truly maddening) questions lingering from the prior books are answered even as new conundrums arise :) I was incredibly happy with this book, and can't wait to read Raven next!!!

***This series is suitable for adult readers who enjoy snarky goodness in their urban paranormal crime solving suspense thriller action adventures with a dash or two of romance and a healthy serving of horror :)

This series must be read in order! This is the 4th book in the series.

Another awesome story of The Storm Chronicles. This book is told in the dual voices of Raven Storm in the present and Mason Storm in the past, following a case that both generations of Storm detectives race to solve as the boddied pile up. Yet another kick butt adventure filled with mystery, action, plot twists, loads of bloodshed and even a bit of romance. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!

This book is suitable for adult readers only!

There is no doubt, in my opinion, that this series is getting better with each entry. SK develops her characters slowly over time and introduces some new villains who fit into her alternate reality/urban fantasy world without any stretch of suspension of disbelief required to enjoy any book from these genres.
What is unique in this book is the dual narrative of Raven chasing the same monstrous villain that her father had died pursuing. The second narrative takes the reader back in time to her father's story of that pursuit. What makes it very interesting is that Raven's father's partner is now Raven's boss in the special crimes unit.
Knizley takes us deeper into the vampire world in which her vampire mother is the reigning "Queen of the City" of Chicago. There is a battle, a challenge to her authority which Raven must also deal with while she pursues the current monster.
Two things that I particularly love about this book are: Raven is a damphyr, that is the child of a human father and a vampire mother. She has all the advantages of being a vampire without the need to avoid sunlight. Damphyrs are called "day-walkers" because of that gift. I happen to love really good books featuring a damphyr as the lead character. The other thing I love about Raven is that she just can't turn off her truly snarky humor. She will crack wise even when it looks like she's about to die, that is, just before she kicks major butt.
I would love to reveal the surprise that comes at the end of this book, but that would just be too much of a spoiler and it is such a shocker that I would never ruin the readers' pleasure upon discovering the surprise "ending". It certainly sets up the next volume in the series, which I have just started.
The reader of this review may wonder why only four stars if I love the book so much. It gets only four stars because so far, SK has not offered anything truly new to this genre. Pretty much every other damphyr book I have read before this series has already covered the powers and vampire politics and the kick-butt, snarky humored heroine. So, it gets four stars until something really unique to set this series apart takes place. I will say that the stunner at the end of this volume holds the potential to squeeze that fifth star out of this reviewer.
Make no mistake, this book is a great read and without question the best in the series so far. Do start at volume one, though, in order to understand all that is covered previously and is just part of the story background at this point. Highly recommended!

I feel tricked

I didn't think I needed to read a review on the fourth book before I read it because it was a "fourth" book. I was wrong. Let me say I really like Raven. I love her skills and her friends. That being said *** spoiler***

I did not invest so much time in this series only to have the carpet pulled out from under me. It was like watching a comedy and all of a sudden everyone is killed by zombies. If I wanted zombies I would have picked zombies, not have them be thrust upon me. Whether someone is straight, lesbian or bye I want to choose what type of book I read. Raven started out liking the French male vampire, and then 3 books later she is going to date a girl. By the way, I love women. My mom, sisters, friends etc. I do not have any desire to read about them romantically. Like I said, I really liked the books in this series but I can't reconcile myself to being sheep that blindly follows where things are now headed.

I don't know how it happened, but I neesed when this one came out. Now that I have read it I am stunned! I was confused in the beginning with Mason And Frost, but as I read It made more sense.
Raven is awesome! I love the trouble she tends to cause. Always gettin poor Rupert mixed in with her shenanigans, even though he is her partner and familiar. They have each others back no matter what. I think this story was more grusome than the last three, and i loved every action packed minute of it. Storm and Rupert make a great team. I did think they would end up togather this time, but they each have their own loves. One they will never part with is their friendship and partnership. Things did get really intense as they work this case. I loved all the action and suspense. I cannot wait to read the next one.

This is another amazing book by this very talented author. From the moment that I picked up this book, I was taken to another place that was not going to let me go until I finished the very last word. From the moment that you are introduced to these fantastic characters you want to see them succeed. The book moves along at the perfect speed keeping you interested and not losing speed at any point. This book needs to be read, there is no doubt about it. I cannot wait to read more from this very talented author in the future.

Amazing!!!

I can only say Skye's books keep getting better. She left us this time with a major cliff hanger. It is horrible that we have wait to see what happens next. So many questions left unanswered, well worth the wait. This is by far one of the best series I have ever read in this genre.

A good, fast read

I enjoy this series because it has fast paced action and explains the terms for the monsters concisely. Also, the author doesn't stray too far from the original description of the vampire and shape shifters. And I like that the witch in the story is part of the good guys.

I did not like the end of this book I felt like it was rushed could we not have seen Drak earlier? Or had more of a boss fight? Just feel like it was not thought out as much as the rest of the book that it should have been excluded just kept the fight with the girl vampire and left him out of it. Left Church as the main bad guy. With the introduction to Drak through his wives/concubines.

Another Great One!

Just when you thought Raven couldnt keep up she just puts it into another gear. I also love the growth of the main characters. And was amazed with the ending another plot twist I didn't see coming. Can't wait for the next installment.

Great as usual

Storm did not disappoint. Paranormal crime fighting, what more could you ask for. I thought it was a great read and the cliffhanger was a doozy. I am looking forward to the next book.

For all the Storm Chronicle books, need much editing (editing is atrocious), but the action is so thrilling, I can hardly wait to read the next book.

Cover - not bad, highly reflective of the story.

Impatiently waiting for the next book. I stumbled across book one and immediately read everything else available. My only complaint is having to wait for the next book.
