A terrifying enemy with a score to settle. A young hero without a clue.
As with many a tale, this story begins with a fool: a young man who honestly believes his future is somehow under his control. Even as the dragon roars and the witches weave their web of evil, he continues to deny his destiny. Does he have to die to understand the truth? Maybe. Maybe death is just what he needs.
Forced along a path he does not wish to follow; young Gialyn comes under the gaze of an ancient guardian. Can he come to terms with his unwanted abilities in time to save his home, or will the responsibility of becoming the White Dragon’s chosen prove too much to bear? Meanwhile, Brea, a young woman with a destiny of her own, calls on a powerful creature. Will the beast help, or add itself to her growing list of enemies?
“In the finest traditions of possibly the greatest of all fantasy genres (Epic Fantasy), T.J.Garrett delivers everything you have come to love in a truly epic adventure.”
Tony Garrett had always been interested in writing but never took the plunge. However, over the last few years, he has become quite the prolific writer. What makes Tony's story remarkable is this fact: Tony is legally blind, and--even with the assistance of digital displays--reading is a chore.
It had been 25 years since Tony had read anything as his range of sight leaves him visually incapable of reading physical books. In his words, when it comes to books, "there is no print large enough."
However, with the advances in modern display technology, and the malleability of digitally published works on Kindle and other apps, readers are given far more control over the appearance of stories. In Tony's case, switching the font to display as white on black, and increasing the character size until only a few words appear on each line allows him to read on a large screen or tablet.
"It takes a long time to read, but I don't mind," Tony explains. "It's changed my life. I love reading, now. And to think I never used to read much--back when I could see."
It wasn't long before reading the stories of others inspired Tony to want to write his own as he became amazed at how immersive writing could be.
"It's a much deeper subject than I expected," stating that it was primarily his experience reading The Lord of the Rings that inspired him to take up writing. "I read Lord of the Rings and was immediately captivated by how much better it was than the films, and I LOVE the movies."
KDP's community focus has helped Tony to take his writing more seriously. "Before I discovered self-publishing, I would have described myself as a hobby-writer. KDP and others have given me the ability to take it further."
Educated at the London College of Music, Tony is also a dedicated musician and composer, and when not writing, he likes nothing more than performing with his band.
The author stated he was greatly influenced by The Wheels of Time and it shows. With the strange distance and time measurements and the umpteen different tribes and clans and similar sounding names, I stayed. confused. It took me 4 -5 times longer than normal to finish because I would leave it and read other books instead. I never finished the whole Wheel series for this reason and will go no further here either. The editing was about par with today's standards. which is a 4 out of 10. I lost count of the grammatical and context errors in the first 2 and didn' t bother counting in the last two.
I have spent the last month on and off reading this book. It is an awesome series. I would encourage any adult or ya to read this. It has dragons, magic and a cute girl.
This 4 book omnibus has been enthralling to me. An old world mystical, magical good against evil with dragons, witches, soul guardians, several different variety of wolves, along with different species of humans. All with prejudices against other beings come together somewhat begrudgingly at first to fight a common foe, an evil witch. I've read all the other reviews concerning these books, but have to honestly admit, I was so engrossed in the way the words painted the picture of what was happening with each of the characters and how they were developing within the storyline my mind must have automatically corrected any misspelling or grammatical errors that were being pointed out because I truly was not hindered with any if they were there. I would personally put this in the category of a JRR Tolkien epic
This tale kept me confused and captivated. The beginning was a bit slow to the point where I put it down for months. When I picked it up again I wished I had held out for one more chapter. The tale was intricate and well thought out. I will be buying the next book in the series as soon as I finish writing this review. I would highly recommend the series but be aware that there are many places where the grammar (or likely the auto correct) made it hard to figure out what was meant. Despite the issues, I loved the tale and look forward to the next installment.
This quadrilogy is a good story, well told. Considering author T. J. Garrett's remarkable biography, this work is an even more amazing accomplishment.
As I read the four volumes, one thing struck me the most. Garrett has mastered a particular skill I consider as an important mark of a superior writer: his characters actually mature as the story evolves. They are multi-dimensional and interesting. I simply *had* to continue reading, to the final period in the final sentence of the final volume, to find out how things worked out for them.
Several youths hold key positions to the balance between For the Good and Not for the Good, sometimes wondering which side they serve. Gaining wisdom before experience can occasionally be a deficit. And some serve for a great cause but find themselves on the wrong side of the battle.
Main character is a 9th character in this book and does very little in it but the rest of the group makes this up ,good book but let down by the main character who is not the main character!
I really enjoyed this series however the end of the last book seemed a little rushed, like the author was just trying to wrap it up as quickly as possible. Great read despite that and looking forward to the next series
A fantastic adventure story, but apparently no one bothered to proofread or edit it before publishing. I'm not sure about purchasing the next book since it seems likely it will be just as poorly edited.
I couldn't finish it, gave up a quarter way through. The writing is poor and the [lack of] editing worse! The names of places thrown around willy nilly, no background for characters, as simple as human or not.
Simply a great fantasy series. Reminiscent of an easier to read Tolkien type adventure with a more compact lore to understand. Well placed in its genre.
Great characters who mature and develop as the story unfolds.. Interesting interaction between main characters.. Fast paced, suspenseful with surprising twists to a well thought out intricate plot.. I appreciate being able to buy as a set since each book will not stand alone.. How ever the four books together make a complete story..
The author gives credit to Robert Jordan as a inspiration, yet did not follow Jordan's despicable tactic of using boilerplate copy pasta to fluff these stories. There are no oft repeated descriptions acting as filler, each passage builds on the previous knowledge and respects readers as intelligent people who do not need rote reintroduction at regular intervals. That's not to say that it's flawless. this box set does contain some manageable copy editing errors, and a strong editor would likely have forced some rewriting and tightening of the first book. All in all I was thoroughly entertained, and read the complete work twice prior to my review, it is worth keeping in the library.
I ceased to give Mr. Jordan my hard earned funds after nine books, when the copy / paste nature of his writing style became overwhelming. Readers deserve a value from the books they buy. TJ Garrett gave me product worth buying.
A worthy read! For fantasy adventurers everywhere. A melodic dance between dark and light leading to a large scale battle. Characters are fresh and well developed. I highly. Recommend!!
Well now I'm hooked on T J Garrett. I just finished the last book in the Dragon Oracles Eastern Kingdom Omnibus and have to say I can't wait to start the next series. The characters are well formed and quite likeable. I actually shed a tear in several places. When I read a really good fantasy novel, I find myself becoming part of the story. This one I actually found myself shouting cheers in certain parts. Other than some minor editing flaws this series is great and I highly recommend it.
I enjoyed the world and the plot ideas. Although a recognisable genre, not clichéd and written with spirit.
The dialogue of the various species and cultures did not seem to reflect enough diversity and more distinct 'voices' would have been appreciated but this is just a personal preference.
There is a lot of material here and so good value for money :).
Though my kindle overheated, I found that I was unable to put the book down. It was continuously interesting, full of action, adventure and very differing hero's, the villains were villainous and the hero's heroic but not gung ho. A good book from start until the next episode. I won't say finish as I begin to think there won't be one
The books in this series are so much fun! Reminiscent of Martin, Jordan, and Tolkien. Large cast of characters and good character development. The only thing that bothered me were the grammer/spelling mistakes. Amazing writer, amazing story, amazing characters, just needs some better editing. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.
The description lied to me about what to expect in this book. It never happened till like end of 3rd book into 4th book. Was looking foward to dragon and rider type book but guess not. Reason for 5 stars is it was 1822 pages I think and was written very detialed and nicely.
Rarely does a story and all of its characters draw me in as Garrett's Dragon Oracles has done. Well crafted and interesting throughout, this is a tale well worth a look for the fantasy crowd. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. Many thanks to the author for such great entertainment!
