The most powerful love in existence faces the most sinister threat imaginable.
I am Rhiannon, and this is my story.
Century upon century, the love between my Roland and I has deepened into something as rare and powerful as immortality itself. We are leaders among our kind. And recently, we’ve taken in three orphans, mutants known as the Offspring, created by DPI for one purpose; to hunt and kill vampires.
I never thought I would have the chance to be a mother, and I adore the three seven-year-olds. But DPI is desperate to get them back.
They captured Roland, nearly got us all, and naturally I turned over heaven and earth to get him back. And did. But he’s not the same. Something happened to him in DPI’s evil hands, and now it feels as if the threat to the children is coming from within my own home.
I might be forced to choose between the innocent children I adore, and the man who is my very heart and soul. What is a Queen of Darkness to do?
I live in the teeny, tiny town of Taylor, NY, (Alliteration Alert!) though my mailing address is Cincinnatus, my telephone exchange is Truxton and I pay taxes and vote in Cuyler. All of these are at least in the same rural county in the southern hills of New York State; Cortland County. There are more cattle than people here. The nearest “big” cities are Syracuse and Binghamton and they are an hour away, in different directions, and not really all that big by most standards, though they both seem humongous to me. I look out my window to see rolling, green, thickly forested hills, wildflower laden meadows and wide open blue, blue skies. My road is barely paved. The nearest neighboring place is a 700 acre dairy farm.
My house is a big, century old farmhouse. I moved in here after my divorce in 2006. Just a little over a year later, the house, which I had named, SERENITY, burned. It was 99% gutted, and I lost my two dogs, Sally, an 11-year-old great Dane, and Wrinkles, my 14-year-old, blind bulldog. This was the culmination of my Dark Night of the soul, which had seemed to hit me all at once in 2006-2007. My mother died that year, after a 14 month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was only 60. The youngest of my five daughters had left home that same year, and while that’s not a tragedy at all, it felt like one to me. Then came the divorce. And finally there was the fire--it seemed my darkest night wasn’t quite finished with me after all. I had lost almost everything before that point, and as I poked through the wet ashes and soot the next day, I realized that I had now been stripped all the way to the bone.
No better time to start over. (And no, I didn’t come to that realization that day--there were a few days of wallowing in pity first, particularly the day after the fire, when I hit a deer and smashed up my car, which I was practically living in!)
That’s when I started to laugh. Just sat on the side of the road as the deer bounded, uninjured and carefree, out of sight, and laughed. It was just too ridiculous at that point, to do anything else!
And from there, I picked myself up, and brushed myself off, and said, okay, there’s only one way to go from here. Forward. And that’s what I did. There I was at the age of harrurmphemmph, living in my one, mostly undamaged remaining room, with a dorm-sized mini-fridge, a futon, a TV, my cat (nine lives!) and a laptop. And not much else. (Though thank goodness the room that survived the fire, was a room that had its own attached bathroom!)
Since then I have rebuilt my beloved home, which really has become my haven, my “Serenity.” I share it now with my fiancé, Lance, and we have accumulated quite the little family together. “Little” being a relative term. We have a pair of English Mastiffs, Dozer and Daisy, who weigh 203 pounds and 208 pounds respectively, and a little pudgy English Bulldog named Niblet, who is bigger than both of them, inside her mind. We also have the aforementioned cat, Glorificus (“Glory” for short,) who adores her canine pups and keeps them firmly in line. And we've acquired a pair of stray cats as well, a mother and son, Luna (Lulu for short) and Butters aka Buddy. Lulu showed up pregnant during a lunar eclipse, had a litter, and vanished again. We found homes for all the kittens except one. Butters. We got him fixed and kept him. A few months later, Lulu returned, again expecting. This litter was born on the "Monster Moon." Again, all the kittens were spayed and neutered and placed in homes, and this time we got Lulu to the vet in time to spay her before the cycle could repeat.
Glory is not amused.
She has a story of her own, my old Glory cat, having been with me before the Dark Times descended, she went through it all with me, moved with me, survived the fire, and remains with me still. She's tolerating the newcomers. Barely.
My partner is an artist, a mechanic, a welder and an inventor, and the rumors are true, he is much younger than I
I could never give enough praise for this series. I am truly amazed by how much I have enjoyed reading this series. I am hoping that there will be many more books to come for this series and look forward to reading them. Thank you so much Maggie Shayne for your wonderful creations.
Good book. The characters were very well written. The story plot was solid with lots of action. The love story between Rhiannon and Roland is amazing. Great read!
A terrific ending to an exciting series! I am so happy that Maggie is reviving this series. The children are amazing and I enjoy reading their story and catching up with not so old favorites. I hope there will be more.
DPI has separated male and female mates. This story is how they are reunited. It is exciting and reveals some new weapons the DPI have developed to capture or kill vampires.
Wings in the Night: Reborn #3/Wings in the Night #21
I had a feeling this wasn’t going to be my favorite in the series. Rhiannon and Roland had their story told in book Twilight Memories. I was never a big Rhiannon fan. I know, I know, she’s Ms. Shayne’s favorite. If she wants to, she can do a whole spin-off series on Rhiannon and keep the Wings in the Night/Wings in the Night: Reborn about different vampires each book. The other problem I had with this book is that it’s written in first person POV with Rhiannon telling the story. This is the second time she’s done this now! I was hoping that the first one was a glitch- Dead by Twilight novella in the Edge of Darkness anthology. We still get Roland’s POV, written in third person… which is just weird. It completely defeats the point of writing in first person POV. Anyway, if Ms. Shayne writes anymore in this series- and I hope she does as it’s my all-time favorite vampire series- I hope that first person POV goes out the window.
The book starts with some overlap of Twilight Vendetta, which is nice, to get our heads back in the story and to see what’s happening to Rhiannon and Roland, since we only know what Devlin and Emma are trying to do. However, it did feel repetitive. Rhiannon had to tell us over and over that she loves Roland more than anything- yes, we already know that. And Roland repeatedly telling Rhiannon that he doesn’t feel right . We get to know those special kids more as Rhiannon, Roland, Eric, Tamara, Roxy, Maxine, and Lou (with the added addition of Christian who was a super-soldier/Chosen, but Rhiannon had to turn him after his heart almost exploded after Roland tried to kill him- because of the implant) try to help raise Ramsey, Gareth, and Nikki. We also hear about other past vampires in the series: Morgan de Silva, Dante, Vlad, Stormy, Cuyler Jade, and Ramsey. The kids want to see if they can find their “sister” who they think may not have actually died when she was two. She is albino looking, translucent white skin and white hair. The kids all have special powers. The missing sister “Gamma” who then picks them name of Blue can set things on fire. Gareth can heal, Nikki can move objects, and Ramses can control the north wind to the point that he can freeze things.
Long story short they rescued Blue. Christian, Max, and Lou went to DPI’s Sentinel to get the other remote from Colonel Patterson that can control Roland, wiped all the computers and backup servers and schematics for the device in Roland’s brain and then Christian drank Patterson dry. The device in Roland’s brain gets removed by Ramses as he cools the explosive fluid in Roland’s brain and Gareth repairs the damage from where the camera was and keeps Roland from bleeding out. So, Roland is safe, which means everyone around him is safe. Roland’s leg is even starting to slowly re-grow! He’ll have his leg back in a couple of months. And everyone is happy and safe… for now…
Hopefully there will be more books in the Wings in the Night/Wings in the Night: Reborn series. Seems like there are plenty more people. There’s Lucas Townsend (LT) who is working on the inside of DPI, the newly turned Christian, and then all the children (of course after they grow up). I thought this was one of the better edited independently published book that Ms. Shayne has done so far. There was one instance that I noticed a stray quotation when no one was talking, which was pretty glaring.

Things I dislike about this book: 1 - the cover. They say you can't judge a book by its cover. It's true. But the cover is cheesy and so is the book.
2 - half of the books is leading up to where we left off in the last book. I know they're gonna get captured, just get there already!
3 - The back of the book pretty much tells the story if you've read the series. "Something happened in the DPI's evil hands, and now it feels as if the threat to the children is coming from within my own home." The DPI has done this particular trick before with a half crazed vampiress. Roland was captured and tortured by DPI and suddenly feels like he's being watched and has pain in one of his eyes. Hmmm...
4 - Rhiannon. What I love most about her is she's a priestess of Isis. She's magical, intuitive, brave, confident... so where is that character? She completely gave up and tried to commit suicide with Roland before they even tried to fix him... after adopting 4 genetically mutated and abused children. What was she thinking?!?

I rang in the New Year with Maggie Shayne & Rhiannon! Maggie Shayne is one of my all time favorite authors and I got my copy of The Rhiannon Chronicles the week it was released. Due to a busy school year, I couldn't dive into it's pages until winter break. I devoured the book in 2 sittings & actually finished minutes after the ball dropped! So Maggie began my 2016 & her book will be a hard one to top!! Rhiannon and Roland's original story from Maggie's Wings In the Night series is one of my favorites & I didn't think that this book could possibly make me love them anymore. I was wrong! With every chapter I fell more and more in love with the this story. Maggie has never failed to provide me with a story full of love and passion, but this story - this story is different. It is not about finding your soulmate because they've already found one another
I love Maggie's way of writing and I really enjoy Rhiannon her love Roland and Pandora her cat. This book follows them and the 3 Others children they have to protect from being captured again. The Others were raised to kill vampires so it has taken a lot to get them to trust Rhiannon and Roland who just want to keep them safe and to love them and raise them. They travel for a long time and decide on Maine to live and raise the children. They are safe for a little bit and then trouble rears it's head. Of course they will win but at what cost? I look forward to the next book would be interesting to see how they'd react to Christmas.
OMG I love Maggie Shayne...just finished it.. Rhiannon and Roland are awesomely amazing...A love story for all time.. They rescue a bunch of children off the Anemone as they are escaping from the DPI.. Roland is captured shortly after so Rhiannon and the children can escape..He is rescued a short time later... but something is wrong.. He feels it, she feels it...but dont know what. The DPI want the children back...And what they did to Roland was to insure they would be caught.... Made me laugh, made me cry... Love the Twilight series...Can't wait for the next
I loved reading this book from both Rhiannon and Roland's point of views! Both of them made me laugh with them trying to use modern technology. I also loved how they took in the children and made them their own. I hope Maggie writes more in this series and we get to hear more about all the children.
I loved this new series. I honestly didn't read the older books that came before this series. I though now would like to since I enjoyed it so much.i have to image that the other books are just as good. If you have or haven't read them. I highly recommend Wings in the Night. I hope Maggie decides to add on. I'd like to read more in the future.
I have read all of Maggie Shayne'S Wings In The Night Series, it was great revisiting Rhiannon and Roland and several others in this great series. I hope Me. Shayne continues to write this wonderful series as it is truly an amazing series.
I enjoy this series a lot and recommend it to anyone who loves a good paranormal romance. The characters are richly described and the plots are always intriguing.
