Two Weeks: A Haunted House Ghost Story: A True Haunting

Rate this book
Do YOU believe in ghosts? Neither did Laura's family...until they moved into the old farm house in the country.

The old house on the outskirts of town was the perfect fit for Laura and her large family. With plenty of bedrooms for everyone, a big yard, and the best climbing tree they’d ever seen, she and her sisters couldn’t wait to get moved in.

It didn’t take long for the house to reveal its secrets.

In this spooky tale of a real life haunting, an entire family was targeted as something evil lurked between the walls and threatened to tear them apart. In the two weeks the family lived in the haunted house they battled physical attacks from unseen assailants, spiritual attacks on their articles of devotion throughout the house, and even demonic possession.

And then, of course, there was the thing in the basement-the thing that nobody wanted to talk about.

Was the house reliving its torrid past or are some houses just born evil? Laura's family was about to find out in the worst way!

In this incredible true ghost story of a family living a horrible nightmare in central Kentucky, if you weren’t a believer in the paranormal before, you might just change your mind.

(TWO WEEKS is, indeed, a true account of a haunting that took place in the late 1980s.)

I have read plenty of horror, extreme horror , ghost, psycological books and I have never actually had a book get to me as much as this book. I was reading it in bed and it was like watching the exorcist which is one horror movie I can't watch because it scares the crap out of me. This book was doing the same . I think it's because of the detail she put into the "hauntings" that made it feel like it could be happening in real time . I really enjoyed this book, one of the few 5 stars I have gave in a few months .

Kentucky is Haunted!

Why is it old funeral homes invariably become menacing demonic homes to the unwary young families who rent them? Toddlers being possessed by unclean spirits and dogs running amok lost in the madness of these spiritual wars? Why Kentucky?
Why not the Oval Office? Why not the Donald? Guess they ain't no justice for the truly demonized. But we could impeach! Let's Do!

Crazy

Wow just wow. No kidding about how positive and negative energy is. I am very open to the only way I can explain it is that I'm sure that the people who don't understand how I feel or see things , I can walk inside a home and just feel comfortable or something real. As I read this book I could feel the sadness that this house took on.

Good reads

2 weeks is a haunting story with demonic side notes. If you love scary and aren't afraid of the dark or big old farmhouses that have a past, then come on in the water is fine!

Considering this was not told first hand, it set the scene perfectly. I really enjoyed how it was written, the suspense and atmosphere was there without it feeling too ‘Hollywood haunting’ and it was far truer to life. My favourite read in a long time!

It was okay. I enjoyed the historical part BUT I felt like it was way too close to too many typical horror movies out.

Frightening events clearly stated but a great story was lost in this dry recitation of facts

This book could have, and should have, been great. It is the story of what the author's closest childhood friend and that friend's family experiences when they move into a house that was previously used as a funeral home. The friend, Laura, is only in the house a few days because she is the immediate target amongst the children for demonic attack, and is allowed to go stay with the author and her mother for the majority of the two weeks the family is forced to remain. Once she is gone, the attacks against the children (5 including Laura) are equally abhorrent until the youngest, Candy, becomes possessed. The father becomes crippled with back injuries, the mother is repeatedly sick. Apparitions, booming, banging and knocking, heavy booted footsteps on the stairs and in the halls, continual illness, weight loss, putrid odors, unwashable stains, manifestations visual and aural, teleportation of objects, disembodied voices, crying and screaming, a hidden cellar that reeks of death that sucks in their dog somehow straight through the trap door and the linoleum, desecration of religious objects, blood on the walls, and the death of a baby ... truly a horrible, terrifying, prayer-inducing tale. Except it's not.
The author takes a completely exaggerated "just the facts" stance with this book that destroyed it. I'm not saying she should have made anything up, not that she would have had to, but a few adjectives more poignant and expressive than "nice", " bad", "loud", " big", "angry" would have gone a long way towards making a story a great story. Keeping to the facts doesn't mean depriving your audience of timing, drama, flair, adjectives, proper punctuation. This was just dry as the Sahara.
Research? The author mentions it but then never does any. And you'll love this...while the little one is possessed she starts giving the names of the people she's killed. Anybody follow up on that? Gosh, I don't know!
Another thing missing was personal verification. This is about a childhood friend with whom she is still friends. Where are the personal quotes? Even an "approved by"? A photo or two would be too much to ask? Again, there is just too much original source available that went unutilized or wasn't even thought of. Either way, it hurts the book badly.
Overall it kept my attention but what I came away with was, what a great book that could have been. What a waste of my time and hers. Not recommended.

Rebecca Patrick-Howard's 'Two Weeks: A True Haunting' was actually even better than I expected. I pre-ordered the book when it first became available, because I'd already thoroughly enjoyed reading her previous true paranormal yarns, and to be quite honest, I'd have been more than happy with even more of the same, yet Two Weeks, despite the brevity that the title most definitely implies, is actually a surprisingly eventful, suspenseful, and wonderfully spine tingling (and SCARY) little read.

Little? Well, "short" might be a better way of putting it, I suppose. Sure, it's not the longest book you'll probably ever read, but that's to be expected with most true paranormal publications these days. All I know is that it was much longer and more detailed than I thought it would be. In fact, for me, the length seemed just about perfect. Because from a critical standpoint, I'd have to say that the overall pacing of the story, and the supplementary descriptions of all the principal characters, were neither needlessly verbose (the way many books are obviously padded to build unnecessary length), or in any way lacking in detail. That, combined with Ms. Patrick-Howard's highly personable and increasingly polished writing style, makes the reading process fly by a whole lot faster than just two short weeks! Okay, okay. I really hate to use the usual, worn out old book review cliche here, but I honestly, seriously, had a lot of trouble to put this book down.

Not to give too much away, of course, but it's actually rather astounding that so much happened in that frightening old farm house in just those two short weeks. I mean, you start reading about the travails of the unsuspecting family depicted in story, and in pretty short order you come face to faceless face with a faceless specter, experience a terrifying demonic possession that requires an impromptu exorcism, behold a blood spot on the floor that just won't scrub out (EVER), and... a whole lot more. So how can a reader possibly go wrong? This book just about has it all, folks, so I honestly and sincerely highly recommend it. At any rate, I'm not sure if this is the best book review I've ever written, but for my money, Book 3 in Rebecca Patrick-Howard's True Haunting series is the best of her work that I've encountered thus far. Real good stuff here, ghost story lovers. Real good. And scary. AND TRUE! Which is what true paranormal accounts like this are all about, of course.

New favorites author

I am not sure how I stumbled upon this author's work but I am so glad that I did. I love the way that she brings this story to life. The haunted house story was quite interesting, and because the author says it's a true story it made it even more interesting. I could easily image the fear that the family felt as they faced the darkness that was in the house. I also found the history that the author shared about the area to be quite interesting. A haunted house story that really pulled me in. I will certainly be reading more from this author.
Another great book read with my kindle unlimited subscription.

A Fantastic Read

Even for skeptics, this book weaves a tale that could easily become a movie. This story is similar to many documented tales about demonic possession due to a home. From the loss of a child to possession, this book seems to have it all for such a short read. The history given about the house leaves a lot to be desired, but considering the fact the author is trying to preserve the privacy of the family in a small neighborhood, I can understand why it was a vague description. Awesome book.

Great page turner

I have always enjoyed a great ghost story and this book didn't dissapoint. With every page there was an unexpected twist, the horror that the family went though was unimaginable. The accounts of the families experiences in that house would had me running out of that house sooner. I RECOMMEND anyone who is interested in the paranormal to give this book a try. Thanks

Fast read

It didn't take long to read! It gives a different perspective of haunted houses and is scary. I really felt for the family. I always wondered what it would be like to live in a haunted house, but not sure I really want to. If you like paranormal books, read this one!!

This Will Likely Send Goosebumps Down ...

Your arms, back, and across your shoulders too! It is a well written story that rings with truth. The scariest thing to me ... is how it can happen without warning ... to anyone. I have experienced some of these things myself, which is one of the reasons I recognize the truth in her words.

Rather short, but rather good

I really enjoyed this story of a poor, petrified family enduring a haunted house. That alone is scary enough, but knowing it's a true tale makes it even more chilling.
I'm not sure why book 3 was recommended before I'd read any other in the series but it is stand alone. I'll definitely be reading the other books next.

I have read several of Ms. Patrick-Howard's books, this one is my favorite so far. The pacing was excellent. The story held my attention throughout. I was pleasantly surprised by how scary parts of the story were. Not too many books give me nightmares, but this one was nightmare inducing!

Goosebumps....

I read this in one sitting and will be sleeping with a light on tonight. True or not, just the possibility that these things occurred will make a person huddle under the covers.

Loved it!!

I started reading this book and couldn't quit until I finished it. The ending is a happy one in that the family survives and escapes the house. The downside is the emotional scars they suffered.

Good story

I would have given it more stars had I not heard and/or read this story before. I am not doubting the validity of the author's story. She told it well and I enjoyed reading her version.

Great fast horror

Great story. Sounds like your typical demonic infestation type story. My only complaint is that I could never keep the names of of all the characters straight. Anyway want a fast October read before Halloween? This is a good choice

Well written.

Attention grabbing terror from the first page to the last. The author has created believable characters with a realistic description of life in Kentucky at the time.
