What happens when a curvy city girl heads to a Western dude ranch for her long-lost mother’s wedding? She gets stranded on an oppressively hot Texas back road. Thrown from a horse and injured in the fall. Humiliated in front of a room filled with wedding guests.
Not exactly the string of events Skylar Warwick expected when she arrived at Longhorn Dude Ranch for her mother’s nuptials to the owner. And she sure as hell never expected to follow in her mother’s footsteps and fall for a tall, handsome cowboy. Yet it all happened, and her smoking hot stepbrother-to-be Cal Reynolds was smack in the middle of all of it.
Cal Reynolds makes his first mistake when he doesn’t reveal his true identity after he rescues the curvaceous blonde with a broken down car. He fails again when he pulls her out of a ditch, and his well-meaning advice is interpreted as possessiveness. He gets one more chance with Skylar at the big event. Will he strike out or hit a home run with his sexy, but accident-prone, new stepsister?
This is the first book in a new Western Romance series from USA TODAY bestselling author Gillian Cherry. Each book is a standalone story with a happy ending. For adult readers 18+.
I received Dude: Cal as an ARC (advance reader's copy) book from the author. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. **SPOILER** Okay, not just no, but hell no! Thank goodness this was a very short read, but in this time the author fit in some silly conflict about Cal not disclosing his identity. Then within days, after a couple 'misunderstanding' they have unprotected sex (I'm not on the pill, just pull out), THEN, when he doesn't , they talk about their possible baby? After a couple days? What the heck? The only reason it's not a 1-star is the editing wasn't bad.

The book starts off with Skylar on her way to her mother's wedding when her car breaks down. Little does she know the man that comes to her rescue (Cole) is her soon to be stepbrother. Cole decides to keep the fact that he is going to be her stepbrother a secret from Skylar. Skylar does have a few mishaps in the book and discovers the man is her soon to be step brother after she is already lusting after him. The book is fun and sexy, but when the two of them finally decide to explore their urges something falls flat for me. The ending seemed rushed. For this reason I can not give the book five stars. I would like to read more from this author before I decide if I truly like her stories or not. I did receive this book for an honest review.
Cal Reynolds the oldest of the Brothers and someone who he sees stranded but who is she and why does he hide who he is from her . Skylar who is coming to Texas to be part of her mothers wedding . but what she finds is a cowboy who keeps who he is until it is revealed but what is most shocking is what happens next to find out this is part of the Red Hot Candy box set . and given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review ,. want to read book 2 lol .
This was a dnf for me. She starts "sobbing" when she breaks down in extremely hot weather, he stops to help but has to check out her "knockers" first and then says her car got so hot the valves melted! (I come from a family of mechanics so this jumped out at me.) I always try to be positive about a book but I just couldn't get past the first few pages. There are quite a few 5 star reviews so you'll have to decide if this book is interesting enough to give it a try.
Cal is Skylars stepbrother but that doesn't stop him from checking her out even with not knowing and then finding out. Skylar may be mad at him but he looks good too. When two people won't admit their feelings but comes out as it seems taboo but since they aren't real brother and sister all bets may be off. But can they get past with the thinking taboo thoughts.
just got through reading dude: book: 1 cal. I was really getting into the story and bang a cliffhanger. the author should tell us before we buy the book that it is a cliffhanger. I get so disgusted. when this happens I DO NOT buy the next book. I don't have the money to keep forking out for these books. Who wants to make the authors rich by buying them?
Skylar is heading to her Mothers wedding when her car breaks down and along comes hunky cowboy Cal to help her out. I must say that the sparks did fly and it wasn't because of Skylar's car trouble. This was a good start to a new series for me to dig my teeth into.
I received an ARC for an honest review. Love me some cowboys. I enjoyed the the story line, just wished it was a little longer. Look forward to reading about the other brothers.
