I confess, I haven't finished reading this... it's been on my reading list for ages and bugging me to finish it. I'll keep pecking at it. I love the whole Carnacki notion of a supernatural detective gathering his trusted friends around to tell them of his latest adventures BUT...I find myself having to really focus to stay engaged. Just finished a story about a supernatural entity that appears in a vortex resembling a great hog. Pages and pages and pages of description... you know, if this were done well as a film short, all that would take place in a couple of glorious suspense-laden seconds. But on paper, I'm just not able to be involved. I'm skipping ahead. Have we figured out how to beat this thing yet? No? Still swirling and menacing? Skip... and then in the end, (spoiler alert!!) there was some agent of GOOD that helped Carnacki reverse the evil thing that was gaining ground... and Carnacki didn't even summon the GOOD or know what it was... convenient, and a bit of a cheap fix in my humble opinion.

This book in on my Kindle. I'll have it with me for doctor's appointments and such and force myself to get back to it. But there have been other works that grab me. This is like zucchini ice cream--yes, I've had it, it does exist and it's good... but darned close to vanilla. I'll eat it, but if I had a choice, I'd be looking for the Cherry Garcia or dark chocolate and black raspberry.

Satisfying weird stories. The first three novel length ones listed above are like being trapped inside a dream that doesn't know if it's a nightmare or just disturbing. The Carnaki stories are good. The title character is an investigator of psychic phenomena and sometimes the ghosts are real and sometimes they aren't.
Like all kindle 'complete works' I doubt I'll ever read everything in this collection. There's far too much. But that's a good complaint.
